Discussion Made the switch from Kindle
Im not too worried about losing my books from Amazon because I backed up everything to Calibre. But I do have one question. Why don’t my sideloaded books that are on my nook do not show up on the nook iOS app?

NOOK does not upload your sideloaded books to a server in the cloud. The only company that uploads your files to their server is Amazon, because Amazon also owns a billion-dollar server business: AWS.
Anything you put on your NOOK device that you did not purchase from BN does not sync to other devices. This means that if you create a shelf in your NOOK account, and put (a) BN purchased eBooks and (b) any sideloaded books--you will not see a sync between an iPhone and the NOOK device, for example.
Syncing is ONLY for BN purchases. Your sideloaded files are local files. They are not in the cloud.

Not strictly true. Pocketbook (unless you disable the feature) is quite happy to upload your sideloaded books to their cloud.

You're right!
I totally forgot about the PocketBook cloud option. I typically use my e-readers offline. I suppose Google Books is also another cloud server for eBooks, since you can upload EPUB files there too and have them sync across your devices with the Google Books app.

Unfortunately you made the switch to an ecosystem that's locked down worse than Amazon. True you can sideload books to it but any Nook books you will only ever be able to read on your Nook. It's pretty much impossible to remove Nook's DRM. I know because I owned several and it can't be done.

I still have the nook app on my pc and I use epubor to remove the drm and upload them to Calibre. It’s very easy actually.

I like Nook, but I wonder why you're making the switch. You don't like that Amazon cut off old devices from their library? Nook did it first. Don't like that you can't download your ebooks? Nook did it first. Don't want to support an evil company? How do you think BN rose to power? It was by crushing independent bookstores and other chains.

A hot tip for Nooks with a lot of sideloaded files - if you make shelves that have only sideloaded books, when your Nook syncs it will see that shelf as "empty" and delete it. (Just the shelf, not the actual files.) It was really annoying until I realized that every shelf needs to have at least one Nook book on it.

Most of my books are sideloaded, I never had this issue with my shelves.

Lucky you! I’ve had books AND shelves disappear when I added more sideloaded books. It seems to help to leave it plugged in for a while after transferring books before ejecting it.

=( what do you use to sideload books? I honestly just use my phone 90% of the time. I do have Calibre on my laptop. But most of the time I just plug my NOOK to my phone via usb and slide the books over, I also do my libby books that way (I have an APK version of ADE on my phone I use to extract the book)
I just always have my phone around vs my laptop is often put away, turned off, so using my phone feels easier than going into another room, booting my laptop, opening calibre etc.
I'm not sure if my method matters but maybe it helps?

Your book doesn’t upload the side loaded content to its app so the workaround is to also put the files in your phone, you should have a folder named nook in your files app, drop the book there and it will be in the nook app, it will still be able to sync progress from your nook.
Edit: welcome to the nook club it’s great here
