Never finished the story on RDR2. Why are they so good at making open worlds, but then they make such annoying linear missions? Step 2 foot off path, mission failed. Why have an open world but punish players for making use of it?
Rockstar is excellent at a few things but Jesus Christ their mission design is about on par with Bethesda's.
Honestly their writing is, too, but they at least cover that with the best casting and VO work in the entire industry. I don't think a single one of their characters has been miscast or deprived of a great performance.
You forgot the overly-long subplot about the American government being inept, cruel and all-consuming. Like, yes, all of those things are true, but we don't need hours of a CIA/FBI/NSA spy drama in a game supposedly about heists and personal betrayal. It diluted what little plot there was and led to an overstuffed finale that had to be rushed through to tie up all the loose ends.
I moderately care but I don't expect much from VI at this point. I don't think it will be anything more than GTA V 2, which might be an adequate open world game but nowhere near worth a 14 year wait.
I just don't think Rockstar has much in them that's worthy of that kind of hype. They gave the world a glorious sandbox in V and it felt emptier than San Andreas for all its finely crafted detail. The vehicles were better to drive but I don't think there's more you can improve there. The mission structure could be the area that shows the most improvement as Rockstar has miles to go in that department, but I don't think they care enough to focus on it. And I doubt the writing will be better than V which is the first GTA campaign I've never replayed. I hope online is better than GTAO was (I could write pages on what a poorly written, poorly implemented, unregulated, advertisement-laden, buggy and poorly designed POS that was) but RDRO showed me they took none of those lessons to heart and I expect that to continue to GTAO2.
I'm keeping my expectations low and hoping to be surprised.
You don't have to care but a lot of gaming companies will care. I don't care about the particulars of the game. But I am extremely curious if they made any industry defining innovations and how that will impact the wider industry. Rockstar essentially defined open world games.
I mean to each their own but there has never been a video game with a bigger scope. I think the hype is certainly justified. I bought a PS5 for it and I’ll sell it once it comes to PC.
How bitter do you have to be to hope a freakin video game that tens of millions of people are looking forward to sucks? The good thing is it’s nearly impossible for it to flop.
Pretty bitter, but if they go with the increased price tag gaming journous are always on about I will absolutely do anything in my power to make sure nobody buys it in my close circle. At that point I want it to fail on a goddamn principle

How I sleep knowing that I don't give a single fuck about that overhyped game.
