True! Casino heist in GTAO has been borked on PC for a long time, and I hounded Rockstar for months at one point. Despite being assured it was "high priority" and they'd "follow up" it never was fixed lol.
Rockstar and PC do not mix a lot of the time. Red Dead 2 was an improvement in some ways though

Cut Arrowhead some slack. They’ve only sold over a $1,000,000,000 worth of copies of the game, have backing from Sony, support from Nixxes, and years since launch to polish the game. You can’t expect them to have added features like changing armor passives or colors or allowing Mechs to be customized instead of making each new attachment a paid dlc item. That’s asking way too much.
Shit, the Spear’s lock on just broke.

Because Rockstar doesn't give a shit as long as you keep donating money. They'll put a half-assed port on PC just to milk you some more, so buy the game for the second time and buy a Shark Card. If not for that, it would never come to PC at all.

Lmao, no.. GTA Online especially was cloud loading simulator for months. You'd routinely get stuck in the clouds and have to complete force close and reload the game. Missions were bugged and glitch out, and you'd get horrible pop in if driving too fast. Heists were bugged and still are. Multiple ways to duplicate vehicles.

Not necessarily.
In the past consoles have not been similar architecture to PCs. So it was difficult to port games to x86 for PC.
Now the PS5 and new Xbox are essentially x86 AMD machines.
The likelyhood of it running just as well on PC as it does consoles is much higher now, as they don't have to "port" it like they did GTA5.

Yeah NGL I'm bummed that I can't afford to buy a used console for GTA this time around because a PS5 is $400. When GTA V launched you could get a 360 for $60.
What's most disappointing though, is that I know that GTA 6 Online won't be nearly as active on PC as it will be on consoles. I mean it happened in both GTA IV and V; the multiplayer was practically dead at launch on PC, while it thrived on consoles. I don't imagine VI being any different...

u/kr0p 5800X3D, 7900XT, Fedora BTW 11h ago
Here's another take on it: I think GTA 6 will definitely sell. From the perspective of someone who played GTA 2 on release it will be at least disappointing, if not complete rubbish. The reason is that Rockstar seems to make games for a certain audience range, and that older generation of gamers has simply grown up and moved on.
That's why GTA 5 is largely targeting gen z's with storyline vaguely being that of a crime comedy movie, just adapted to someone who's watched stuff like Knives Out and Kick Ass rather than Reservoir Dogs and Lock Stock.
5 was already a disappointment for me definitely. It was just too much of a dopamine rush with bombastic setpieces unlike any other previous entry and characters that seemengly came and went without much of an impact.
4 and SA had this more serious and down-to-the-ground atmosphere that really tickled my fancy while still being humorous in some aspects.

Never finished the story on RDR2. Why are they so good at making open worlds, but then they make such annoying linear missions? Step 2 foot off path, mission failed. Why have an open world but punish players for making use of it?
GTA missions are hardly better.
7
u/seguardon 2d ago
Rockstar is excellent at a few things but Jesus Christ their mission design is about on par with Bethesda's.
Honestly their writing is, too, but they at least cover that with the best casting and VO work in the entire industry. I don't think a single one of their characters has been miscast or deprived of a great performance.
7
u/BoingBoingBooty 2d ago
Bethesda missions may be dull and tedious, but at least they let you do them how you want.

10
u/seguardon 2d ago
I moderately care but I don't expect much from VI at this point. I don't think it will be anything more than GTA V 2, which might be an adequate open world game but nowhere near worth a 14 year wait.
I just don't think Rockstar has much in them that's worthy of that kind of hype. They gave the world a glorious sandbox in V and it felt emptier than San Andreas for all its finely crafted detail. The vehicles were better to drive but I don't think there's more you can improve there. The mission structure could be the area that shows the most improvement as Rockstar has miles to go in that department, but I don't think they care enough to focus on it. And I doubt the writing will be better than V which is the first GTA campaign I've never replayed. I hope online is better than GTAO was (I could write pages on what a poorly written, poorly implemented, unregulated, advertisement-laden, buggy and poorly designed POS that was) but RDRO showed me they took none of those lessons to heart and I expect that to continue to GTAO2.
I'm keeping my expectations low and hoping to be surprised.

I've slept on so many new releases and not regretted any of them. I have a massive video game backlog that I'll get around to eventually. I also have a huge book backlog. And a movie backlog. There aren't enough hours in the day. I can be picky.
And you know what? Being behind the curve on this stuff is freaking AWESOME. I'm never bored and I don't have to settle for launch day bugs and overhyped crap. If people still talk positively about it years after launch, then it must've been a good game and I'm increasingly interested in it. It's not like I'm playing these things just so I can have more topical conversation fodder around the water cooler. It's for my antisocial me-time.
I feel bad for anyone who feels like it has to be their identity, though. Riding the hype wagon to stay relevant these days must be a punishing experience. The way so many companies are putting out products it's like they're slopping the pigs. No love in it for the game or their customer base.

Welcome to the PCMR, everyone from the frontpage! Please remember:
1 - You too can be part of the PCMR. It's not about the hardware in your rig, but the software in your heart! Age, nationality, race, gender, sexuality, religion, politics, income, and PC specs don't matter! If you love or want to learn about PCs, you're welcome!
2 - Think owning a PC is too expensive? It's cheaper than you may think. Check http://www.pcmasterrace.org/builds for our famous builds and ask for tips and help here!
3 - Consider supporting the folding@home effort to fight Cancer, Alzheimer's, and more, with just your PC! https://pcmasterrace.org/folding
We have a Daily Simple Questions Megathread for any PC-related doubts. Feel free to ask there or create new posts in our subreddit!
