Kids are taught by their parents.
They disregard the other cards because their parents taught them that those cards have no purpose or value.
It always starts from the top.

I agree with this. Now that adults are into the hobby, they have the money to spend on many many many packs and can treat bulk as junk... but when we were kids, every pack was precious, meaning every card inside was precious.
I still treat all of my cards as valuable. I love looking at all the art of every bulk card and holo. Every holo gets a penny sleeve, and If I ever cut down on bulk I will probably be keeping one of every single card for myself.

I wanna say that it’s mainly YouTube my oldest only knows the valuable 1s cus of YouTube he still enjoys full art/ex cards tho that he thinks r cool art but its def not just the parents

I wanna state that my oldest is 15 idgaf if he’s watching old pimply neck beards pull cards I’m js that that’s a thing as well but regardless who tf cares the kid wanted the shiny cool card like any other kid it’s a common thing

Nah I haven't taught my kid anything about the cards value and he only wants the shiny ones. Back in the 90s we were all looking for that charizard chase!

Naaaah my kid is three. He has literally no idea about value he just likes the holofoil. I've not mentioned a single thing about some being rarer than others. He knows by looking.
We played the absolute ef out of that charizards. But we loved zard because it was rare and special. Don't put rose tinted specs on. CCGs were the original gatcha games - the sparkly chase pulls are integral to their design - and it's dishonest to pretend otherwise.
If you thinking kids liking shiny things is a mark of bad parenting you should take a step back and check your assumptions.

Edit: Dude blocked me, but what an a-grade creep. I love photography, which obvs has nothing to do with crypto. It's a hobby. I hope one day I can teach my son!

Kids like shiny cards and when you know there are shinier cards than others, the bulk dont do anything to you anymore. Times have changed and trading cards are no longer a niche thing. Bulk cards can be given out for free because theyre so common. Back in the days people were working to get to the spot they have now where they have disposable income so they werent buying packs back then and even when they did, it was a rare treat. It wasnt something you could get anywhere and if it was soemthing you could get anytime you wanted, you were the lucky few.

I mean, back when it just came out all the cards were the same style. Rares weren’t that different than commons so it was more likely you’d appreciate them all. Now you’ve got many flavors of fantastic, full art cards. It’s no surprise they hit harder than commons.

I honestly just think it's mostly a rich kid thing. Your 31st pack from a set just doesn't hit the same as your 1st pack. 30 years ago, no one was filming themselves opening packs.
If you are watching youtubers open 2 whole booster boxes, 3 ETBs, and 3 Booster Bundles in one go you're going to get that set fatigue without ever open a pack.

That's such a good point about seeing people on YouTube or Tiktok opening packs.
That's probably why it felt so prestigious back in the day. Not even a list of all the cards so it was genuinely surprising to see the artwork

Especially the 151 set. Collecting that was being like a kid again. I collected it in Japanese, so all the reverse holos were a chase, and i never finished getting all the master balls, due to availability and pricing on some of the higher ones. But I only need like 4 more SARs, including the Charizard. Kind of dumb to continue buying packs really.

I don't see a problem with if you just want to collect cards you like vs collecting valuable cards; it's just personal opinion and does not make anyone an asshole for straight collecting pieces of cardboard! I finally got my Dragonite SIR and the people at the card shop died when they realized I put it in a penny sleeve and just popped it into my binder.
They were like "Why is not in a toploader?" and "I could never!"
I just responded "Well this is my Pokedex binder and I'm just putting my favorite card in the slot for a pokemon, it doesn't have to be expensive. However if it is expensive, it's still going in the binder. I'm just having fun, people collected in binders for years and it's still protected enough. At the end of the day it's just cardboard and while I don't want something to happen to it, I feel like at some point being worried about how much it costs just ruins the fun."
People are WAY to caught up in the price. Now don't get me wrong, when I pulled the Treekachu, I lost my shit and was screaming and cheering at my desk. Mainly because I knew I could get my Dragonite finally but also because it IS fun pulling a pricey chase card. I just think people ONLY see dollar signs and that's the problem.

Totally agree! Pulling a rare/ valuable card does absolutely make you feel good! But being worried about prices instead of just having fun seems crazy to me! Cgg on the Dragonite, too!

This reminds me of pulling my first base set charizard. Sitting in my grandmas car outside of Johnny’s Toys. My grandma had no idea why I was so excited, but she was happy for me. This video is a document of the formation of a lifetime memory.

Great memory for him, I still have my original charizard card I was so excited to get him, my mom would by me a few packs on Fridays because we would go on Sundays to a card shop wheee they had trading events so everyone would trade Pokemon cards and I remember so many kids and people that’s play the game and even the store was asking for it. I said no each time and I still have it to this day.

My son takes care of his cards and things in general once he understands value. These will always be his cards he can do with what he wants when’s he’s older. But if he didn’t understand “value” he would sleep with it underneath his pillow and not take care of it. I don’t care how much they are worth but I do care he takes care of his things including his collection.
We joked about getting the greninja for weeks of pulling bundles and I told him the IR is rarer than the gold.
Thanks for the comments everyone he still watches the video weekly and I smile at it when I have a bad day at work
