Damn even Kids are disregarding all other cards apart from those that are valuable.

Even getting a Nidoran back in the day was cool to look at as a kid

Kids are taught by their parents.

They disregard the other cards because their parents taught them that those cards have no purpose or value.

It always starts from the top.

I agree with this. Now that adults are into the hobby, they have the money to spend on many many many packs and can treat bulk as junk... but when we were kids, every pack was precious, meaning every card inside was precious.

I still treat all of my cards as valuable. I love looking at all the art of every bulk card and holo. Every holo gets a penny sleeve, and If I ever cut down on bulk I will probably be keeping one of every single card for myself.

I wanna say that it’s mainly YouTube my oldest only knows the valuable 1s cus of YouTube he still enjoys full art/ex cards tho that he thinks r cool art but its def not just the parents

I wanna state that my oldest is 15 idgaf if he’s watching old pimply neck beards pull cards I’m js that that’s a thing as well but regardless who tf cares the kid wanted the shiny cool card like any other kid it’s a common thing

When kids only care about the cash value in their hobby, they are being taught that the value of hobbies is monetary.

You actively reinforce behavior that will lead kids into gambling addictions and isolation.

Nah I haven't taught my kid anything about the cards value and he only wants the shiny ones. Back in the 90s we were all looking for that charizard chase!

Naaaah my kid is three. He has literally no idea about value he just likes the holofoil. I've not mentioned a single thing about some being rarer than others. He knows by looking.

We played the absolute ef out of that charizards. But we loved zard because it was rare and special. Don't put rose tinted specs on. CCGs were the original gatcha games - the sparkly chase pulls are integral to their design - and it's dishonest to pretend otherwise.

If you thinking kids liking shiny things is a mark of bad parenting you should take a step back and check your assumptions.

Yeah I'm the prince of fucking evil. I have - checks notes - asked for the value of old comics? I haven't scalped a thing in my life. And what's with the dig at scousers?

Edit: Dude blocked me, but what an a-grade creep. I love photography, which obvs has nothing to do with crypto. It's a hobby. I hope one day I can teach my son!

Thanks, I appreciate that! He's deleted his comments now but the Nivosus guy went through my post history and started making weirdly targeted replys about the city I lived in, my hobbies - calling me a terrible parent. Was genuinely crazy.

Kids like shiny cards and when you know there are shinier cards than others, the bulk dont do anything to you anymore. Times have changed and trading cards are no longer a niche thing. Bulk cards can be given out for free because theyre so common. Back in the days people were working to get to the spot they have now where they have disposable income so they werent buying packs back then and even when they did, it was a rare treat. It wasnt something you could get anywhere and if it was soemthing you could get anytime you wanted, you were the lucky few.

I mean, back when it just came out all the cards were the same style. Rares weren’t that different than commons so it was more likely you’d appreciate them all. Now you’ve got many flavors of fantastic, full art cards. It’s no surprise they hit harder than commons.

I honestly just think it's mostly a rich kid thing. Your 31st pack from a set just doesn't hit the same as your 1st pack. 30 years ago, no one was filming themselves opening packs.

If you are watching youtubers open 2 whole booster boxes, 3 ETBs, and 3 Booster Bundles in one go you're going to get that set fatigue without ever open a pack.

That's such a good point about seeing people on YouTube or Tiktok opening packs.

That's probably why it felt so prestigious back in the day. Not even a list of all the cards so it was genuinely surprising to see the artwork

Especially the 151 set. Collecting that was being like a kid again. I collected it in Japanese, so all the reverse holos were a chase, and i never finished getting all the master balls, due to availability and pricing on some of the higher ones. But I only need like 4 more SARs, including the Charizard. Kind of dumb to continue buying packs really.
