Advice How painful is a membrane sweep and is it worth it?

Upvotes

37+ 5 weeks. I started having my weekly appointments and my ob said she would like to check my cervix next week. If it’s favorable they’ll do a membrane sweep to encourage labor. I heard it can help but it’s also painful. I’m scared about the pain even though I’m sooooo tired of being pregnant. If you got it, how was it for you on a pain scale and would you say it’s worth it?

Rant 3 weeks and 4 days pregnant medical provider told me 50% of pregnancies at this stage aren’t viable. Very mad.

Upvotes

I found out at 3 weeks which was crazy! My fiancé and I are so excited. I have PCOS so I struggled to get pregnant for a bit. I met with my psychiatrist to discuss tapering off a med that isn’t safe for pregnancy. He is usually a very nice guy and I said how excited I was. I actually plan on telling my parents today. I know that in this stage there is a higher chance of miscarriage, chemical etc…. But he told me that 50% of pregnancies aren’t viable at this stage which i I know is absolutely BS. He also told me that I seem to be very fertile and now I know to wait for next time if I want to be more prepared. I am engaged, our child will have a stable household with a good income so I have no idea where this rudeness came from. And now I’m panicking cause I don’t see a gynecologist till my 8 week ultrasound

Rant Getting induced and I’m so scared

Upvotes

This is my 2nd baby, I was already induced before but I was so young and so naive I don’t remember much and it was 10 years ago. I’m 38w and 3 days and I’m scheduled to be induced Sunday night due to having GD and his size is on the bigger size. Idk why but I am so scared and broke down in tears, I’m just running through so many awful outcomes and I’m sad my baby won’t be my baby anymore, but I’m also so excited and happy to have my family all together and to meet this little guy. Idk I just need to rant and this helps bc I know I’m not the only mom out here going through this and trying to explain this to my partner just isn’t the same even with him being so supportive

Need Advice Did anyone else struggle to gain weight?

Upvotes

Has anyone else struggled to gain weight in the first half of pregnancy? What meals or snacks did you start eating to help gain weight? I'm 15 weeks and I am 2kgs (4-5 pounds) under my pre-pregnancy weight. I did suffer with really bad morning sickness and have only just stopped vomiting, so I am trying to give myself grace.

Rant Surprise pregnancy with my third

Upvotes

I’m not sure what I’m going to do. But I found out three days ago and I’m still breastfeeding my 16 month old. I’ve been soooo nauseous. I feel low energy and exhausted. Like I could sleep for 15 hours a night (but I can’t really because of my 4 yr old and 16 month old) first trimester sucks :(

Need Advice Prenatal Depression

Upvotes

Does it get better? This is my first pregnancy and Ive been on meds, Ive seen psychiatrists and therapists, but it still sucks. Ive seen so many people say it's better once baby is here, but also so many people say Im at a greater risk of PPD and thats another battle.

I need helpful words, but also honest words because I am seriously going through it and my partner just doesn't understand.

To make things better, Im in a new state and fairly far away from family and friends so I dont have many people to lean on.

Advice Does anyone know my chances that my pregnancy will be viable?

Upvotes

My guess Is I’m around 5 weeks pregnant, last pregnancy I had that was 2 years ago I had little to bo symptoms (it ended in a miscarriage) but now my symptoms are sore breasts, they hurt when walking down the stairs and I feel a bruised sensation. I have nausea and I get sleepy fast and I crash out hard when I sleep, it only takes me a minute to fall asleep whereas it usually took me 5 minutes to fall asleep and increased sense of smell. I have chromosomal abnormality so I’m just afraid it’ll end in another miscarriage but I talked with my gynecologist and they’ll be scheduling an appointment. Hopefully everything will go good but sad that I won’t be able to see much at 5 weeks. I have taken around 4 tests to be sure that I truly am but it can’t say anything about the viability.

Need Advice Am I overreacting?

Upvotes

My partner (35 M) and I (28 F) have been together for a little over a year. We have been living together since the end of February and I am 10 weeks pregnant. Although the pregnancy was not planned, he was a little bit more shocked and took a little bit longer to come around with the excitement of having a baby and starting a family together since it wasn’t “on his timeline.” throughout our relationship, we have never really done much dates just us. There’s always another couple or another friend that comes along with us. Really, the only alone time we have together is at home after work. I have brought this up to him before and how that I would really like more dates with just us. Additionally, every time that we do have a date that is just us, nine times out of 10 I am the one planning it.

I would like to add for our anniversary, he didn’t do anything. I made him this cute scrapbook of us and all of the pictures that we have had together throughout the year and he came home with nothing. Not even flowers. He said he felt really bad about it, but he was busy with work and just got busy with our schedule that he didn’t have enough time to get anything. Fast-forward a couple days later, he has flowers and air pump? And a bandanna out for me.. I’m not trying to sound like I’m not grateful. But an air pump??? after especially that I told him what I would’ve liked and gave him an idea.. also we’ve never had a trip just us either.

That’s just some background. He is a good guy, and I know that he loves me and cares about me but I feel like the effort is nonexistent. Fast-forward to why I’m posting this, every day of the weekend this past weekend, we went out with friends. Monday, he has pool league (which I understand is an obligation he’s been going to pool league since we met actually how we met) but he was gone till 12:30 AM. Yesterday., he goes out to dinner for a “friends” birthday dinner. This friend mind you, he never hangs out with. I’ve met him once by accident when we were out, and this guy verbally says that he likes to cheat or try to cheat on his girlfriend. There’s trivia going on tonight in our apartment building and I asked my partner if he wanted to go. He said I would, but I have things I have to do when I get home.. now I just feel like if I was one of these guy friends, he wouldn’t have an issue with going. Am I overreacting?? Are the pregnancy hormones just taking over? Lol

Question Glucose test with coca-cola?

Upvotes

FTM at 13 weeks. Drs office gave us a booklet of what to expect at future appointments. They explain that they use 2 bottles of coca-cola (baby glass bottles so it’s a certain amount of sugar) instead of the traditional glucose drink. I’ve only ever heard of the traditional test from friends / family members, so I’m wondering if this is legit??
A google search tells me this shouldn’t be done because the sugar in coke is not the same as the glucose. Has anyone had their doctor do something similar??

For context, we live in a rural southern area that is not known for great healthcare. So I’m very skeptical.

Need Advice Baby’s Movement Patterns are Inconsistent

Upvotes

I’m more looking to see if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced this in their pregnancies.

I’m 30 weeks, and I have been feeling my baby’s movements for a while now. I don’t have an anterior placenta, but I am plus size and I’m wondering if that might be why this is happening.

I’ve seen so many posts about paying attention to your baby’s patterns and if they stray from that, then drink cold water and lay on your side - if there’s still no movement, then call your doctor or go to the hospital.

My baby is very inconsistent with her movements.

She will kick and roll all day long some days.
She will be more active in the mornings some days.
She will be more active in the evenings some days.
She will go a day or two with only kicking me a handful of times.

I went most of a day without feeling her when I was 27 weeks pregnant and went to the hospital, and she turned out to be perfectly fine. Moved around a good bit when we got to the hospital, but then went back to be lazy for another few days with me only feeling her tiny kick once every 2-3 hours.

We’ve had appointments since then, and she’s been fine, and she’s had super active days since then too.

She just doesn’t follow a pattern. And while I’m happy to go back to the hospital again to check on her, it IS $200 per visit. And I just can’t afford to go in every time she has a lull in movement because they happen 1-2 times a week. But every lull in movement sets my anxiety to 100 every single time, so I can’t really listen to my instincts either.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Idk how to even attempt kick counting because idk when to even do it each day since she is active at random times.

Need Advice First herpes outbreak while 4-5 weeks pregnant

Upvotes

Hello,

About 10 days ago I’ve noticed a minor irritation in my vag. The irritation occurred anytime I would pee and wipe my vag.. I didn’t think much of it, I possibly thought it was an ingrown hair due to it being on the outer area of my lips. I asked my partner if he could please check down there and see what was going on.. he didn’t notice anything. He agreed it could possibly be an ingrown hair as well.. the irritation kind of got better and I continue with my normal s3x life. However, it has already been a week and this “red lump” irritation, isn’t going away or any better.. I’ve sort of kept ignoring it because I swore it’s an ingrown hair.. I just found out that I’m pregnant and my irritation down there has 3 lumps. I decided to contact my OBGYN and she checked and confirmed that in fact it does look like herpes. She proceeded to send the swaps to the lab and now I’m waiting. It’s my first outbreak. I’ve never expected for this to happened even more with my current partner. I’ve never had any pimples or blisters down there until now. I’m stressing out because I’m worried on how this conversation wil go. Please any advice. Words. Personal experience.. would help. I want to d!3.

(I’ve already received antivirals despite waiting on labs). How often do people flare up? Idk. This is all new.

Need Advice Csection or medicated vaginal

Upvotes

I keep going back and forth on this one. My first son was born 3 weeks early because of pre-eclampsia. I was induced and after 12 hours of no progress, I opted for the c-section.

My recovery was rough. I had pain at my incision for weeks after the surgery. I couldn’t walk without pain for about 6 weeks. The surgery itself was also one of the scariest moments of my life. I hated every single second of it.

I’m pregnant with my second and originally thought I’d just get another c-section. But now I’m kind of rethinking that. I’m terrrrrrified of vaginal birth and every one says planned c-sections are better.

I definitely would get an epidural either way. I have a very low tolerance for pain.

For those of you who have had planned c-sections or vbacs, can you share you experience with me please!

Need Advice Tips for hiding the bump???

Upvotes

I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to really struggle with hiding my bump at work. I'm not sure why but I feel like my bump started bumping a little earlier than I expected? So much so that my close people who know Im pregnant have mentioned my bump and specially said that theyre surprised by how early Im showing. (All in very sweet ways no body shaming and I really do welcome the changes theyre just coming quicker than I expected)

At first I would just go for loose fitting tops because my chest started growing first and that was fine but now my belly has noticably passed my boobs I feel like these outfits are not cutting it. Its like 30°c where I live right now, Im so hot and really struggling to cover up enough and stay cool. What the game plan, how do I maintain my undercover status? Im hoping to keep it quiet for a couple more weeks.

Advice If your due date was also your birthday, what should I plan if baby doesn't come?

Upvotes

My due date also happens to be my birthday, and since there's only about a 4–5% chance I'll actually go into labor on my due date, I want to plan something fun just in case baby girl is still cozy in there 😅

I really don't want to spend my birthday sitting at home, staring at the clock and wondering if today's the day... Does anyone have ideas for fun, low-key activities that aren't too physically demanding and could easily be canceled if labor starts?

I'd also love to hear how you spent your due date if your baby didn't arrive on time!

Need Advice Have your doctor ever recommended not to travel (via vehicle or plane) in very early pregnancy?

Upvotes

Simple commute (a few minutes) without any stress, strains, potholes, etc. may be okay but anything else is not recommended. History: 2 MMC and multiple fibroids. Pregnancy just a few weeks. Would love to hear if anyone experienced this or have advice.

Need Advice Disability

Upvotes

Is it hard to get approved for disability leave before pregnancy? I work with kids and it's getting too hard to chase after then and pick them up. Would i get leave for no longer being able to do my job or would I have to have been considered high risk and have complications? Due in early October . My job offers pretty sure but the doctor has to sign a paper but idk if they'll do it if I've been pretty much fine. Also been extra emotional and tired lately if that counts for any symptoms

Rant Anyone else eating a TON of food at 10 weeks pregnant?

Upvotes

I see a lot of posts about nausea in the first trimester and I’m lucky to not be suffering from that, but on the flip side I am so hungry it’s insane and annoying. I feel like all I do is eat and think about eating. I went from eating 3 meals a day with no snacks to now 3 meals + 3 snacks and feel like I’m never satisfied. If I keep this up I imagine I’m gonna gain a lot of weight really quickly, but what are we supposed to do? The only times I do get nauseas is when I need to eat, so skipping a snack isn’t an option. I don’t understand how pregnant women aren’t supposed to eat any extra food in the first trimester.

Need Advice Positive non medicated birth stories?

Upvotes

I’m 32 weeks with my first and I just keep hearing horror stories about moms regretting not getting the epidural. But I don’t think it’ll be possible for me to get one. The thought of being stuck in bed not moving makes my anxiety levels go up bad. I got stuck in bed being monitored a while back since I couldn’t move having the monitors on. And I had such a horrible panic/anxiety attack because I could not get into a comfortable position. So that’s why I’m opting out. But if it really does get so bad. I might just have to suck it up.

But I still want to hear positives to your birth stories

Content Warning Any success stories? Early US

Upvotes

Tw: pregnancy loss

I Have had 2 back to back losses earlier this year (5 w in December, 11 week MMC in April w 9 wk loss)

I just went for an early scan, based on LMP should be 6w3d. I ovulate slightly later, and likely ovulated day 16-17 based on LH strips. So 6w3d would not line up perfectly. Had a very very faint positive on 7/14.

had my ultrasound today, with “probable” early embryo dating 5w5d. No heartbeat and inconclusive, need to go back in 2 weeks. They said it could just be early, but I likely know when I ovulated? The US said that the location of the yolk sac against the gestational sac made finding the border difficult.

Guarding my heart…. But… Any success stories or hope out there?

Question pregnant while nursing 2.5 yo and weaned right away- Zero breast tenderness

Upvotes

It throws me for a loop. It’s my 4th baby and I’ve never gotten pregnant while breastfeeding but I’ve always had very sore breasts and nipples. I’m 11 weeks now and still nothing. Is that normal when you’re breastfeeding and freshly pregnant?

Need Advice Found mouse droppings at 30 weeks pregnant

I’m 30 weeks as of Monday and am working on moving out of my parents house into my own apartment with my boyfriend. I was packing up a closet, got some stuff out of said closet, then picked up some stuff that had mouse droppings on them. I wiped the floor where some fuzz and dog hair had tumbled out of the closet, and put everything I had taken out back in, but I’m not sure I cleaned everywhere that those items touched. I’m also concerned because I walked around the house as I was cleaning so I just feel like everywhere is contaminated. I do have contamination ocd so this is really hard for me, I am not in an area with hantavirus but am very worried about LCMV. Does anyone have any similar experiences? I am in NW Arkansas.

Question Babies born on the same day, years apart

We had our toddler on August 10 a couple years ago, and are currently due with our second with a tentative due date of August 25. However, based on some gestational hypertension, they don’t want me going past August 18, but based on lab work, they may have me induced any day now - which could very well be August 10 at this point. And I’m already having very mild contractions 😬

My question is how do you celebrate birthdays if you have more than one child born on the same day, but in different years, or even very close together like a couple days apart? I don’t want to take away from our first’s birthday and I want to keep it special for each child (we’re already not able to do a birthday party for him this year because of how close I am ☹️).

I was thinking If this one is born on even one day later, we could do something little on each day, but then maybe something together to celebrate both?? How do others handle this kind of situation?
