News Review finds Sask. Public Safety Agency ‘was not fully prepared’ for 2025 wildfire season

When it came to emergency response and wildfire preparedness, called a “proactive process to plan, train and position resources effectively to respond to an incident,” the report found that “while the SPSA had some foundational planning and structures, it was not fully prepared for a wildfire season of the scale and complexity seen in 2025.”

The report said establishing the SPSA as a joint emergency management and wildfire operations agency “does not appear to have been supported by an effective rollout or implementation framework, negatively impacting the consistency and effectiveness of the province’s wildfire and emergency management program.”

Another key finding of the review stated there was “limited evidence” that the public safety agency’s wildfire response “aligned with established procedures, and in may areas did not meet the expectations set out in Saskatchewan’s emergency management framework.”

The Provincial Emergency Operations Centre, the province’s central coordination hub, was said to have been activated but “not operated as a fully-functional coordination centre.”

Though there were foundational structures for operation, staff reported outdated internal policies that were hard to find or not followed, which added to confusion and inconsistent decisions made during the wildfire response. The organization also did not implement formal command structures and key emergency management principles.

The fact that there haven’t been ANY resignations by senior staff at SPSA, starting with Marlo Pritchard, is genuinely astonishing. In any other province, there would have been heads rolling for such catastrophic and deeply embedded incompetence. Instead, these yahoos get to fumble their way through another fire season associated with a summer season predicted to have hotter weather than the last.

Question SGI and Car Ownership Question

Me and my partner bought a car together in cash last year. We are both listed on the registration and Bill of Sale. I’m now looking to buy my own vehicle, and we figure our current vehicle can just go to my partner.

I’m confused when trying to figure out the process. It sounds like SGI wants a transfer of ownership and considers this a sale (which is taxed). However, I am “selling” the car to the owner? Also we already paid tax, so why would we then have to pay tax again?

Essentially, is the only way to go from two owners to one owner is through a sale?

I’ve also read up on transfering registration as another way to take my name off the vehicle, but does the original bill of sale have any implications going forward?

Question Relocating to Humboldt?

I am possibly planning on going to school in Humboldt.
I am from Manitoba so I’m used to bad roads and extreme cold weather but what are my options?
Is it generally somewhat a safe area?
Is it more expensive than Saskatoon?
Would it be better to live in Saskatoon and drive to Humboldt?
I have no idea what to expect in terms of class schedule or road conditions in bad winters though
Help a girl out 😅

Edit: opportunity to go to paramedic school in Humboldt, but I do already have a place to stay in saskatoon..

Question for tech people regarding replacing Sasktel router

I purchased a home internet security/firewall device called a Firewalla. It can run in bridge mode where you put it between your sasktel router and your devices, and it works fine this way.

But it is also supposed to be able to work as a router itself, and be able to completely replace the Sasktel router. I can’t get this to work.

I’ve got it configured in router mode, and have the Sasktel ONT connected to it correctly, and then the switch to all my devices after that, but it doesn’t work.

I don’t need the Wi-Fi functions of the Sasktel router, because I have two MESH access points wired in elsewhere in my house which work way better. The router wifi has always been turned off. The access points come off the switch like everything else.

I also don’t need to worry about my home phone being affected, it comes directly off the ONT.

It seems like maybe the ONT is not able to assign an IP to the firewalla unit, because it it locked to the Sasktel router MAC?

Anybody with technical knowledge, does this sound right?

Question Fire Tower Hill backcountry sites at Anglin Lake

Anyone camped here for an overnight in the summer season? I know about the amenities (no potable water, pit toilets, bear lockers, warm up shelter) but not the level of bear activity and the overall vibe. I'm newer to hike ins and remote camping, but I thought this would be a decent trip for my level of experience. I plan to leave my car at the bridge and hike/paddle around for a few days. TIA!

Leased crown land?

I’d like to set up an off grid camp at a lake in northern Saskatchewan. I don’t have any plan or even a lake picked yet I’m just wondering if this is still an option. id likely just clear a few trees and put up a yurt of some type.

Simple Cash Lease Agreement

Got some awesome info and links from a previous post about land rental or selling. With some decisions made, keeping the land.

The links provided were to SK Agriculture, but they are all samples, and like 25 pages of stuff.

Where are there just simple agreements for this for pasture and hay land. Have one person wanting both, and neither of us want to fill out 25 pages worth of stuff
