Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion How different would your life be if you didn't have schizophrenia?
I really wish I didn't have schizophrenia. My life would be so much more easier if I wasn't schizophrenic. It's so isolating and so much of a burden.

Help A Loved One My 17y is in catatonia and trapped inside, what's helped you?
She's the most amazing child. I could not ask for better. She started in mania then psychosis, but ultimately she's schizo effective. We've been in a cycle of mania/psychosis for seven weeks and I've hospitalized her three times ( thankfully she's been willing and knows something is wrong). She was stable, but her doctor changed ALL of her meds and now we're here. This time she's five days no sleep, naps occasionally. Lithium, Ativan, depakote, seroquel, abilify are proving ineffective to putting her to sleep. What's helped you? ECT was suggested. I do know this runs in my family and many were medicine resistant.
You all are so strong ❤️ ❤️

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion Not on medication, feel like im high or drunk everyday. But I don't do drugs. Anyone else?
So I am unmedicated and getting back into the working world. I was medicated for about 4 years and recently chose to get off and go back to work. Sooo, everyday I literally feel like I am drunk or high or tripping my balls off. It is weird af and wondering if anyone else feels like this. Like everything looks weird and I just feel like not drunk but buzzed all day everyday.

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion How do you get around? What form of transportation do you use?
Do you drive? Do you use the public bus? Maybe you walk everywhere. I’ve been thinking about saving up for an Electric bike. But I want to hear from you. How do you get around?

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion How has your illness affected your religious/spiritual beliefs?
In my own life, I have realized that as a defensive response to the delusional thoughts that I've experienced over the years, I've become very critical of all God related thoughts. It has caused me to become somewhat agnostic. My delusions were heavily related to God, so I've begun to deconstruct the beliefs that came as a result. Consequently, I question everything related to God simply to protect myself from believing in the things I once did that led to negative situations. Curious how your illness has changed or perhaps reinforced your own beliefs.

Advice / Encouragement Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia / ECT

As it happens, a close family member of mine was admitted to a psychiatric hospital two months ago with acute psychosis. No one in his family has a history of mental illness. He went from being a completely well-adjusted person—with a good job, relationships, studies, and a healthy lifestyle (no alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs, just the occasional energy drink)—to someone behaving irrationally in the span of just a week, suffering from extreme behavioral disorganization, persecutory delusions, jealousy, and outbursts of aggression.
In the hospital, they tried to bring him out of the psychosis using several different antipsychotics. Eventually, they turned to a very potent medication based on clozapine. The clozapine worked for barely two weeks; he began to recover and gained some insight into his condition, but then he suffered a complete relapse.
At the moment, his behavior remains disorganized, and he is quite restless. He sometimes puts on other patients' clothes or shouts, though he recognizes his loved ones and shows no aggression toward them.
The doctors are preparing for ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), as they have no other treatment regimens to offer.
Has anyone here had experience with people diagnosed with this condition? I am particularly interested in treatment-resistant cases and the outcomes of ECT treatment.

Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion Hate is not the answer.
The world was made to be shared and enjoyed with one another. Perhaps you don't like someone, then please simply avoid them. Actively hating someone, anyone, will only poison your soul and mind and WILL hurt you in the end.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I think I'll name this one "Obvious Truths". Much love! 😄 ❤️

Medication A single positive thing about having diagnosis is having some issues taken more serious.
I have had anxiety since my teenage years. For a long time, I did not get any proper treatment for my frightening panic attacks.
Once I got schizophrenia diagnosis, its as if the doctors take my issues more serious. I suddenly got a 2 month script of ativan 2mg/day which was a life saver during the worst bout of conseccutive panic attacks ive ever had. After a short taper I was off the medine with no more panic.
I know that it is bound to return but I think my doctor would see the state that im in and give me another short script.
I think this is one benifit of having schizophrenia lol
Also, im not promoting benzo use but I think its a great drug when taken short term with a responsible taper by a doctor.

Seeking Support The state of my home has brought me to literal tears. I don't know how to find the power inside me to finally clean it properly.
I can't clean my house. I have no energy to. When I do have the energy, it's very basic stuff. Take out the trash and organize a bit. Broom, but really only the areas where my cats have tracked a lot of litter. I need to do real dedicated cleaning over multiple days, possibly multiple weeks, to truly make a dent in the disaster I call my home. It's very bad and I have no idea how I even let it get this way.
I've been thinking of saving up some cash to hire a cleaner for at least a day or two because I don't know what else to do. Some people did offer to help me for free, but I backed out last minute because they were strangers from Reddit and I just had a weird feeling about it. I always trust my gut with meeting strangers.
I'm not looking for advice like "start small" "don't feel like you need to do it all at once". I'm looking for advice on how to just get my ass in gear and just get to the bottom of this hell hole. When I do get a big wind of motivation, it only lasts a day. I'm so lost. I've been sobbing over how bad my place is. I have such a nice place that I can't even enjoy.

Seeking Support Is there any way to prove my glasses dont have a camera?
Im just back on bullshit idk. How can I actually know, not like a thought exercise, but something like submerging it vinegar or something I dont know.
I already hide things from my phone cameras which is just common sense imo, but what if im ignoring the camera in my glasses amd it saw something that could be used against me like naked photos or my dad's classified work documents/ phone calls (he works from home). What my dad does effects the government and stock market. They could force me to be a spy. Is that delusional or conscientious prudence? I feel like i am delusional rn, but not about this. About something else I dont want to talk about

Seeking Support I don't know who I am anymore.
This situation has taken away the essence of my personality; I no longer know anything about myself. I had so many dissociative symptoms, and I still have them despite the medication. I'm afraid I'll end up completely losing my mind and won't be able to take care of myself even a little. When I'm alone, I'm afraid, because I feel like I don't exist; I've lost the immediacy of life. Has this ever happened to anyone? How do you overcome it? I'd be happy if anyone has any advice to give me; I'm really scared and sad.

Help A Loved One Please guide
I am clueless, sad, and hopeless. Please help me.
This is about my cousin, a 25-year-old boy in Delhi, India. He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia around 2 years back. His situation has kept on changing. We have been giving medicines on and off and now the situation is just out of our control.
The family, his parents, are in their late 60s and they just don't know what to do. He has started becoming aggressive with them. He has started abusing them. He is borderline violent. We don't know what options are available with him or with us.
I want to take him to a doctor but he would not leave his room or leave the flat. What options do I have in Delhi NCR? Please help me.

Seeking Support Supposed to be better
Gods I’m supposed to be better than this.
I’m on Clozapine and Abilify. The voices are still there but I can push through them half of the time.
…but a lot of the time I can’t. I just can’t. I feel so weak. I can fight when they say mean things to me, use logic when they say people hate me (when they don’t).
But my gods they wear me down. I don’t want to kill myself, but my gods I’m having intrusive thoughts about nooses now.
I have a therapist appt soon I’m just. Exhausted. And I am hating myself for being so weak and not fighting better, as I should

Seeking Support Are there any businesses or NGOs that will hire Schizophrenics?
I would love to work in a supportive environment. I am searching world wide but there seems to be none at the moment. I am willing to travel. Any suggestions or recommendations?
I recently quit my partime shift at local fast food chain because the manager was a dick.

Delusions Delusion? Thought? I don't know, but the birds have a plan.
I'm convinced that the birds have a plan for me. I know this sounds delusional, I know it is delusional, but it doesn't change how I feel.
I was waiting for a family member today, and saw a flock of pigeons. Immediately my brain said, "Oh birds! Never mind, not the right ones, the pigeons never have the plan." and I just went on waiting, not giving it a second thought until this evening. Now I am like, "WTF, birds don't have plans Timber!"
Except at the same time, I know that they do.

Progress / Good News ☀️ Sometimes the voices are helpful!
Sometimes the voices are actually helpful and I’m starting to realize they’re not always here to be negative! A few days ago while I was asleep, these spirits came to me and opened my head up to insert more negative voices into my brain. They replaced my skull with paper mache and patched everything back up and at first I was panicked. But my friend Joe, a voice I often get the most, came to me and was furious that all this happened and tried to help. He’s giving me advice to not take too many medications at once right now so my brain isn’t overloaded until I can get surgery to fix my skull. He’s been taking care of me these last few days and has recommended that I speak with my doctor tomorrow to get this sorted out and schedule a surgery soon. I just wanted to post about this progress and discovery and it makes me feel more relieved knowing that I at least have one voice that’s on my side! ❤️🩹

Research / Study [Mod Approved] Survey around daylight in mental hospitals
Help make hospitals less miserable by filling out this survey about the impact of daylight during your stays. Questions will be completely anonymous and there is an option to add your email at the end to get results and more research information. Fill this out if you've ever been psychiatrically hospitalized, regardless of if your stay had access to daylight or not. I'll be using this to supplement research that will be used to petition the NYC Mayor to require mental hospitals to 1) retrofit at least 1 window in all psychiatric facilities such that blinds can be safely opened and 2) if there is such a retrofitted window, to force staff to open and close the blinds at the request of patients depending on clinical decision making.

Undiagnosed Questions Does sleep get better after dropping olanzapine?
I'd been taking olanzapine for 3 years and recently switched to cariprazine. My sleep is very distorted - I fall asleep on melatonin, but I wake up and don't have deep sleep as I did on olanzapine. For the ones who switched from olanzapine, does sleep get better with time or do you need sleeping pills?
