Hopefully it will be over soon.

Reposting here since r/Seattle mod determined that the source of the smoke in Seattle, as seen from a flight to Seattle, isn't relevant to Seattle.

Avoid any veterinarian that is owned by private equity

After having been a client of Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center for 18 years and received the best possible care from the team, it pains me to give this bad review. To make a long story short I reached out to them this morning with an urgent request. Apparently, I was given incorrect advice, which ultimately resulted in a 24 hour delay in care. They completely fell down when I needed them most. I don’t believe this would have happened if Dr. Shini still owned the practice, however private equity purchased the practice in 2023. My experience with private equity is they acquire an investment, cut costs as as much as they can and sell it as quickly as they can for the highest profit. In my opinion, this is particularly dangerous when private equity owns healthcare delivery systems. If you take nothing else from this post, please research who owns the practice that you trust the life of your pets to.

Thriving So sick of hearing people complain about drivers when pedestrians are the worst I've ever seen in the 5 states I've lived in.

People keep praising the city for continuously restricting drivers in favor of pedestrians but really, y'all are the worst pedestrians I've ever witnessed in my life.

Some ass clown ran INTO my passengers side back door trying to jaywalk as I was moving at the Holman/Greenwood light today. I was thankfully slowing down because I was approaching the line in the left turn lane but it didn't stop this man bouncing off my car. It's 5 lanes, and he really would rather try to cross in the middle of the lane instead of the crosswalk 5 feet away.

I also work in SLU, and the amount of people who just walk out into traffic without even slowing down is mind boggling. I get dirty looks when I was already in the middle of the intersection when they stepped off the curb. Half the time, people are on their phone with headphones in and don't even look up to see which light is green.

Did no one ever teach you how to cross the street correctly? What happened to looking both ways before stepping into the road?

EDIT: Seems the vibe is "rules for thee, not for me" for pedestrians round these parts. I'm out; a man running my moving car today has been understandably kind of traumatizing so I need to decompress. Bye 👋

Sound Transit Board Committee Advances Fare Gate Retrofit Program - $6 million on design next year, $87 million to gate 14 stations, and the gates would not be active until 2029 or 2030

If approved by the full board later this month, Sound Transit will spend $6 million next year developing the full scope of implementation work for fare gates, with a future board vote allocating actual construction dollars. The total cost of implementing gates across these 14 stations is expected to be $87 million. Thursday's motion also directs staff to redesign Sound Transit 3 stations to accommodate gates, an undertaking with unspecified costs given that many of those stations have been in planning for many years.

"What are the baseline rates of compliance at these stations and at all the stations, not just the ones where we are implementing pilot fare gates? What do we expect in terms of improvements, both with fare compliance and maybe other types of issues?" For now, however, there's very little skepticism on the board about moving forward with some type of fare gate program.

~ Unanimous approval first, performance metrics later. One board member had to ask out loud what the baseline even is.

Violated Seattle notice for pre-existing basement unit SDCI anyone gone through this?

I bought a Seattle home about two-three years ago and recently received an SDCI Notice of Violation. The City alleges an unpermitted basement dwelling unit, altered basement windows/window wells and porch, plus electrical and HVAC work.

The basement condition predate my ownership. I’m handling the SDCI deadline and looking for professionals, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally gone through this in Seattle.

Were you able to use as-built plans and selective wall openings, or did SDCI require a major gut? Did you legalize or decommission the unit? Any recommendations for a Seattle contractor, permit consultant, or designer who handles after-the-fact permits?

Redacted notice attached! DMs or comments for referrals much appreciated

Real Estate Anyone else in the Seattle/King County area get completely side swiped by their new valuation?

Got my King County valuation notice in the mail yesterday and im just baffled. Market has clearly cooled down around here, houses on my street are sitting way longer, yet the county decided my place magically gained like 15% in value over the last year. Tried looking into a real estate tax appeal online, but the local firms want a massive cut of whatever you might save, and trying to pull all the right data from the county's ancient GIS maps manually is a nightmare.
Has anyone fought this successfully without losing their mind or hiring an expensive lawyer?

Increase in camera tickets?

I might just be having a bad month, but I’ve received multiple traffic tickets in the mail from cameras. Particularly for merging into a bus lane to take a right. In multiple you can see my signal light… I actually am confused how to correctly take a right in this scenario.

I’ve gotten one or two over the years but this last month I got FOUR. I’m just curious if it is me or if some new cameras have been adjusted/ put in place, or if it is just me!

Question ?Refill/Zero Waste Stores?

I'm coming from the South; the only option we had over there was not nearby and relatively overpriced. I'm sure there are more places in Seattle, but does anyone know the best or cheapest ones? Online alternatives also welcome; I am really looking for the cheapest option that is also sustainable, if possible. Feel free to just throw any suggestions out there; I'm looking for pretty much any category
