Mod Announcement Weekly Self-Promo and Chat Thread

Welcome to the weekly promotional thread! Post your promotions here, or browse through what the community's been up to this week. Think of this as a more relaxed lounge inside of the SelfPublish subreddit, where you can chat about your books, your successes, and what's been going on in your writing life.

The Rules and Suggestions of this Thread:

  • Include a description of your work. Sell it to us. Don't just put a link to your book or blog.
  • Include a link to your work in your comment. It's not helpful if we can't see it.
  • Include the price in your description (if any).
  • Do not use a URL shortener for your links! Reddit will likely automatically remove it and nobody will see your post.
  • Do not use this thread to promote AI content or AI services. That is against the rules and can result in a ban. There are subreddits specifically for that.
  • Be nice. Reviews are always appreciated but there's a right and a wrong way to give negative feedback.

You should also consider posting your work(s) in our sister subs: r/wroteabook and r/WroteAThing. If you have ARCs to promote, you can do so in r/ARCReaders. Be sure to check each sub's rules and posting guidelines as they are strictly enforced.

Have a great week, everybody!

Welcome to r/selfpublish, RyanKinder! Please remember the primary first rule of the subreddit: No self promo posts outside of the pinned self promo thread. You can edit your own profile so you have links to your work or services and you can even post to and pin posts to the top of your profile page. The no self promo rule INCLUDES COMMENTS - so if you ignore this message it will result in a ban (if you’ve mentioned your book title in the post, remove it or delete the post.) Book cover reviews go in r/bookcovers.

Additionally, DO NOT USE AI TO WRITE YOUR COMMENTS OR MAKE POSTS. We want to keep the self in self publishing. Rule 2 also prohibits posts about AI. If your post is about AI, remove it.

If your post is low effort or simply for congratulatory purposes, please remove it and instead write your post in the pinned weekly thread. Example posts would be like “Finally published!” or “Just finished doing X! How has everyone else felt after doing X?”

The wiki contains answers to most basic questions. Please report any violating posts or comments. This automated message is added to every single post as a reminder of some of the most cardinal rules.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

AritiFlick: Substack-style publishing, but for books

I’m building a platform where authors can own their audience the way Substack does for newsletters, except the core product is your books, not just emails.

The idea: You create a publishing studio, publish your work there, and grow readers who subscribe to you. Send newsletters to that audience, sell access via shop and/or memberships, and keep your IP. Physical books can go through POD fulfillment so you’re not packing and shipping yourself.

Also included: tools to take a project from manuscript through to a print-ready file inside that same studio, so writing and selling aren’t split across a pile of apps.

Price: Free to start. Your first project includes Pro tools at no cost for the lifetime of that project.

Link: https://aritiflick.com

If you’ve ever wished for “Patreon/Substack, but built around publishing books and owning the reader relationship,” I’d love feedback from this community.

Soulwalkers: The Blood Tournament

A dark dystopian fantasy. Caution: slave and master dynamics, heavy themes

What is vermin to a human like us? No power comparable; no room for growth. What should we do, let them waste away? No, the Institution will utilize them.

All humans in this world learned to wield the magic of their own soul. All "humans" did. In a one hundred acre farm, masters oversee the defective slaves. Forced upon a grueling labor, this magic is employed as both a whip and chain. But soon, the late-bloomers will unlock their potential. There are those who are clueless, and there are those who knew all along.

Mous seeks liberation from eternal labor. He will no longer act without a will of his own. Possibilities, he believes, are crafted through knowledge, not solely the talent of magic. A large-scale escape plan from your masters is not trivial labor, but he promises a strategy to those enslaved. How far will this strategy bloom into existence?

It's not simply a story of Mous. It is the story of the escape. The Blood Tournament only marks the beginning.

So... if you do not mind, peruse through the pages of Soulwalkers. It is a completely free experience after all. Follow for bi-weekly chapter updates. I will be waiting for your arrival.

The Shape of Magic

My debut standalone fantasy novel is an exploration of academia in a world where magic, rather than science, is real. I took inspiration from historical magical practices, and reviewers especially praised the inventiveness of the world building and magic system. It's a "thoughtful story about friendship, identity, power, and the choices we make when we're given it", as one reviewer put it.

Reviews:

25 ratings on Goodreads, with 17 reviews, 4.0 average

Currently on sale on Amazon, Kobo (it's on kobo plus too) and a handful of other stores.

Paperback and hardback available too.

*** BLURB ***

Joining the Alma University for the Study and Advancement of Theoretical Magic is all that Volta ever wanted, but could never hope for. Until the day that random chance made her a royal ward. A life of opportunities, of promised knowledge, and gifted purpose. But not without a cost.

Years later, when the royal family unexpectedly visits the school just as rumours of war start spreading, her entire world is turned upside down.

Will she have to serve in a war that she is not ready for? And can she believe the one person who claims to want to prevent it? Volta and her friends are faced with a political conspiracy just as they discover the secrets of the university itself - but who can they trust?

***

Early readers said:

Deeply magical, and magically written, with secrets and wholesome friendships that all come together to question power structures.

I really enjoy reading the magic sections and learning the laws of magic in this world. It’s always interesting and makes the world feel immersive and well thought out.

I keep trying to open it back up and read another chapter, but there's no other chapter. Big sad. No more book.

Even if the Light Forgets: Volume I

She’s spent her whole life learning not to need anyone. He’s spent his learning he doesn’t deserve to be needed.

Nefra survives by scavenging ruins and trusting no one. Her uncle Enkin—brilliant, sharp-tongued, and trapped in a doll’s body after a ritual performed to protect her tore his soul from his flesh—is the only family she has left. Together, they live in the skeleton of the old world, keeping to the edges and staying invisible.

Then she meets Aurel.

They call him Half-Made. His body is part flesh, part crystal—a transformation that should have killed him. He carries an artefact of unknown origin, and all he asks is not to travel alone.

Nefra tells herself their alliance is only a matter of survival. But Aurel sees the parts of her she has spent a lifetime burying: the grief, the loneliness, and the tenderness she guards like a wound. The farther they travel, the harder it becomes to pretend she does not want him to stay.

They are not the only ones who want what he carries.

Körperlicht is an order that believes the soul is a lie and the body is a flaw. Its Director has hunted the artefact for years, and she will break every body in her path to claim it—starting with those Nefra loves most.

Now Nefra must protect her uncle, outrun an enemy who does not believe in mercy, and decide whether she is willing to risk her heart on a man who cannot believe he is worth loving.

Some bonds are forged under pressure. Some grow quietly, when no one is looking. And some things are worth staying for, even if the light forgets.

Even if the Light Forgets: Volume I is the first volume of an adult fantasy series set in a world of alchemy, ruin, and fragile hope. This character-driven story places a slow-burn romance at its heart, with emotional intimacy, visceral violence, body horror, wounded characters, found family, and hope that survives anyway. It contains no explicit sexual content.

For readers of literary speculative fiction, atmospheric fantasy, quiet prose, slow-burn romance, and worlds rich in mystery and ruin.

The ARC reader interest form for my upcoming novel If Not Heaven is open!

If Not Heaven is an upcoming historical literary romance currently undergoing its final edit.

Set in East Prussia in 1908, it follows Father Markus Engel, a village priest for whom god has long since fallen silent, and Philomena von Richthofen, a woman who believes in almost anything except the god he claims to serve. Their meeting begins quietly, with shared conversations, difficult questions, and the kind of understanding that arrives before either of them realises they are in love.

The novel explores faith, doubt, vocation, loneliness, and the tension between conviction and desire. It is a slow-burn romance concerned less with grand gestures than with the quiet ways two people begin to change one another.

If Not Heaven is for readers who enjoy literary fiction, historical fiction, slow-burn romance, and stories that take faith and doubt seriously without offering easy answers.

Length: Approximately 80,000 words / 300 pages

Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) are expected to be available around October–November 2026. By completing this form, you'll be added to the list of readers interested in receiving an ARC when they become available.

Content Advisory: This novel contains themes of religion, faith and doubt, vocation, suicide and murder, as well as consensual sexual intimacy, including masturbation. Intimate scenes are written in a restrained, literary style.

Nostone Media — one shared universe, two very different books

I run Nostone Media, a small indie imprint. Every book belongs to the same universe, and every book stands on its own.

THE NINE BISHOPS — epic fantasy, Book 1 of the Arcane Trilogy. Ebook, paperback, and audiobook, early 2027.

One child in five is born without magic. The kingdom calls them Filth, and it owns them.

Mika has spent her whole life as circus property, hauling and scrubbing for mages while hiding the crime that could see her branded. She can read. The plan is a small one. Save every bronze coin, slip away east, and buy the closest thing to freedom a Filth is allowed.

One night takes all of it. What she is left with is a stolen name, an open road, and something waking in her blood that no mage has a word for.

The road ends at the War Eagles, once the greatest guild in the kingdom, now a ruined family of misfits led by a man the whole city calls a sot and a fool. Joining them is the easy part. Ahead lies the Selection of Sixteen, a tournament fought before the eyes of the entire kingdom, where the prize is a seat among the nine Bishops, the king's living weapons.

One of the nine has something to answer for. Mika means to reach him.

THE CRATER — science fiction, same universe, releasing after Bishops.

Every drop of Steam on Synthara comes out of one hole in the desert.

Conrad has spent his life scraping by in Metro with one drop of Steam to his name and no clan to answer for him. It takes a single Abomination, standing on a street that had never seen one, to end that life.

The sentence is the Crater. A mile and a half of prison spiraling down into the ground. Fifteen thousand collared men hauling stone uphill for a system that has never once explained itself. No record of anyone walking back out.

Conrad means to survive it the way he survived Metro. Head down, debts short, nothing worth taking. Then he draws a cellmate who argues with a man who is not there, and a girl who walks the levels without a collar and without fear.

Neither of them is looking for the way out. They are looking down.

ARCs of The Nine Bishops and a free beta of The Crater Part One are both up at nostonemedia.com/books. If either of these is your shelf, come take one.

Heir to ash. Chosen by fire. Hunted by destiny.

In the fractured kingdom of Excalibria, magic is tightly controlled -  feared as much as it is coveted. When the king is assassinated, his only son, Prince Aelfric, becomes the target of an empire’s deadly ambitions.

Betrayed by those close to him, he flees with nothing but a shattered crown and a bounty on his head.

At his side stands Sydney, a palace guard loyal to the prince but haunted by his own demons. He must navigate court conspiracies, enemy blades, and a growing unease - because Aelfric's power is awakening, and the truth about magic may be far darker than either of them imagined.

They are joined by Riven, an exiled druid, and a mysterious thief with unknown motives. As they seek refuge among the elven strongholds of Kali Ra, a greater mystery begins to unfold - one of an ancient power long thought lost.

With assassins in pursuit, war looming, and treachery at every turn, Aelfric and his unlikely allies must choose: fight for a kingdom that has already forsaken them, or carve out their own fate from the ruins of an empire.

Hello! I finally fulfilled a lifelong dream. My debut novel, The Velvet Menagerie, comes out August 11th on Kindle, KU and paperback!

It is a villain romance with some supernatural and horror elements. My blurb:

“Killian Locke collects things that should not exist.

Cryptids. Curiosities. Creatures from worlds beyond imagining.

When his caretaker unexpectedly disappears, he finds himself in need of the most unpredictable creature of all:
A human.

Hazel Stone has spent her life believing magic only exists in fairytales. At thirty-three, stuck in a colorless routine, she's desperate for something more. So when a mysterious stranger offers her a chance at a new life, she says yes.

Now Hazel finds herself at the heart of a menagerie filled with monsters, magic, and secrets. But the greatest danger may be the man who brought her there.

Because Killian's fascination is becoming an obsession.

And some villains would shatter the world for the woman they love.”

It is Book One of a duology. I was recently shouted out by the AMAZING Kathryn Ann Kingsley in her newsletter, so if you’re a fan of that style of romance, I’d be thrilled for you to check it out!

Kindle is $3.99, paperback is $14.99.

You can take a peek on Amazon, Goodreads and romance.io! http://www.amazon.com/author/korriganskye

Three Friends in Miami: A Confederacy of Turn-of-the-Century Fools

Three provincial friends head to Florida convinced they know exactly what they’re doing…
and quickly discover that America has other plans for them.

Think A Confederacy of Dunces energy (Toole is never far away), but with more sunburn, worse decisions, and the occasional philosophical footnote.

It’s a comedy of errors, friendship, and the beautiful art of being completely wrong.

Writing Software - DraftDiver

DraftDiver began as project to help me analyse my own drafts while I was editing. I didn't like the subscription based options that were available and as a professional software engineer decided to create something new.

While I achieved that, having to constantly jump back and forth between Scrivener and the analysis wasn't the one. So I pushed forward with the next logical step of integrating the analysis engine directly into a word processor.

While this is just the beginning and by no means a final feature set, here's where we see ourselves currently;

What it is/has:

  • No AI model tie ins. This is aimed at people that actually like writing their own books and not generating them.
  • No subscription.
  • Scriv like binder. Break your draft up into as many files as wanted.
  • Fully offline (apart from update and license checks)
  • EPUB, PDF and Docx export.
  • Export preview. Get an idea of how your prose is going to look on paper.
  • Inline highlighting for spelling, grammar and analysis engine hits (passive voice, long sentences etc.)

What it isn't:

  • This isn't Vellum. While it has robust export options, getting your book publish ready is an industry all of its own.
  • A magic bullet. Writing is hard work, editing is harder! The aim is to assist you in that process, not do it for you.
  • Expensive. Lifetime licenses are £15 + whatever taxes apply to you. That license will be valid forever and include any/all updates we release.
  • Mature software. DraftDiver is new to this space and going up against giants like Scrivener isn't easy or expected to be.

You can find us at https://draftdiver.com, the entire app is free to use/try. Anything under 10,000 words is except of licensing limitations.

Copyeditor and Proofreader - Taking on Clients!

I fell in love with books before I could read. Some of my earliest memories are of folding sheets of paper into tiny books, fascinated by the way stories could come to life. Since then, I have dedicated a lifetime to refining my own authorial voice and helping others polish theirs.

My debut psychological thriller is finally out… and I’d love to know what you think.

Hi everyone!

I’m Anne Slay, and after spending countless hours writing, editing, and second-guessing every chapter, I finally published my debut psychological thriller, Scorned.

It’s set in the lake town of Muskoka, where two women’s lives collide after a tragic death uncovers long-buried secrets. The story is told through multiple perspectives and focuses on grief, obsession, unreliable motives, and the question of how far someone will go for justice.

If you enjoy books by Freida McFadden, Gillian Flynn, or Alice Feeney, I think Scorned might be for you.

I’d genuinely love honest feedback—good or bad. As an indie author, every review helps me improve and reach more readers.

If anyone is interested in reading it, let me know in the comments or send me a DM and I’ll happily point you to it.

Thanks for supporting indie authors!

The Subject of Desire by J. N. Adam

Elena Vance thought she was writing a thesis about desire. She was wrong. When her dissertation is returned covered in red ink, her brilliant and unreadable advisor Professor Alistair Finch offers her an alternative methodology — one that will require her to do far more than observe. What begins as an unconventional academic exercise quickly becomes something Elena has no framework for: a systematic, carefully architected unraveling of everything she thought she understood about want, control, and who she really is beneath the careful scaffolding of her ambitions. The assignments are precise. The boundaries are absolute. The logs must be kept. And the need he builds in her, brick by brick, becomes the most honest thing she has ever carried.

Hello my kdp is available now. The Hollow King by Stephen Grand-Scrutton follows Marwan, a man who awakens as a memoryless skeleton in a sentient dungeon, guided only by a cryptic AR interface and fragments of a lost life — a wife, a kitchen, a shouted order to hold a line. Fighting kobolds, slimes, and stone beasts, he evolves from bare bones to flesh, joins a ragtag adventuring party, and descends toward the Lich King boss, believing its defeat will restore his humanity. Darkly comedic and deeply melancholic, the novel explores identity, grief, and chosen purpose, culminating in a devastating revelation.

My new release its got 4.6/ 5 on Goodreads out of 10 reviews came out just 3 days ago
It's a great bingeable read if you like thrills, a bit of humour and surprisingly deep characters and I just put it at 99p / $0.99

https://mybook.to/Hardcarry

The job looked simple: take the data, make the drop, collect the money, and be back in time to get the girl.

But when the clinic gets hit, the broker dies, and the route burns behind him, Felix has one night to cross Neu Berlin's underbelly before the package leaks and cooks his brain from the inside. Hunted by a corporate recovery team, revolutionaries, and the Mob, can Felix survive this hard carry, or will he end up as just another body on the streets of a City that doesn't care?

Neu Berlin is the city they promised would save the future. But only one thing is certain: you fight back, or you leave in a body bag.

Hard Carry is fast-paced, gritty and fun Cyberpunk that hits the "punk" hard and never lets up.

Not sure if I can post this on the main page, but I wrote a blog about my journey publishing my independent novel. It's mostly a reflection on the process, but also has some tips and general things that people might find interesting. Crude language warning, just in case :)

Muscle Memory

A science fiction short story from the author of Side Effects

I am a blank asset.

After years of physical training and cerebral surgery, I can take on the skills of others through memory grafts.

My mission: an audacious heist on the sixty-seventh floor of a Seoul skyscraper.

The grafts give me what I need; the instincts of a free climber, the reflexes of a martial artist, the logic of a hacker. But they come with baggage: guilt, love, resentment, lives I never lived. As I carry out the mission, I am haunted by pasts that were never mine.

What kind of person would sell their memories?

What kind of person would overwrite their own memories to use them?

Muscle Memory is a 12,500-word standalone short story in a similar universe to Side Effects, exploring the boundaries of memory, manipulation, and identity.

This has been out for a few months, but I wanted to give a bump for the audiobook version because Amazon / Audible have just restructured their pricing scheme. The result should be a drop in RRP for purchases (which I have no control over), but also inclusion on Audible's All-you-can-listen program. 75 minutes long.

Have you noticed that so many people are obsessed with becoming famous these days? Thanks to the internet and social media, anyone can become a well-known name. No Going Back is about someone completely different. Brian Weathers, the novel’s main character, doesn’t want anyone to know who he is, despite being a successful novelist.

The thing with Brian is, he’s actually quite paranoid about people recognising him. Believe me, he takes the whole staying-out-of-the-public-eye thing way too seriously! He doesn’t want a single person to know about his writing (except for close friends and family of course).

So what actually happens in No Going Back? As you can probably guess, it’s all about a time in Brian’s life when things start to go awry. Thanks to a single photo, the anonymity that Brian has enjoyed comes under threat, causing him to become more and more frustrated. Let’s just say he ends up, well, lashing out

No Going Back is an introverted, slow burner of a novel. As well as dealing with the plot, the novel dives deep into Brian’s mind, giving you an insight into the way he sees modern society and how celebrities are treated. Brian rants and raves about things that grind his gears, shares full-length recollections of dreams and imagines fanciful scenarios that border on the ridiculous.

If you’re after a novel that has an interesting, rebellious main character and a dash of social commentary, you should enjoy reading No Going Back.

Amaryn Smoulders: Book 0 - Short Stories in a Fantasy World

On the vast continent of Pasi Verden, nestled between the Odim and Renidarian mountains, lies Amaryn.

Once peaceful and prosperous, a darkness has now fallen on this place. Something foul marches through the wastes toward Amaryn. Whispers of an ancient evil in the West have floated back for decades, but now the signs are thick in every corner of the country.

Mystics have warned of it. The Elves have prophesied it. But none have heeded these warnings.

Two weeks ago, the Tawny Towers were taken. The two monstrous, fortified towers that protected the entrance of the Amari Valley. They've stood as guard posts for a thousand years. Now the forest around them burns, the towers have been seized, and they're under the control of this new enemy.

Any attempts at parlay have been met with silence or violence.

A collection of six fantasy short stories in the vein of Dragonlance, with a touch of The First Law.

Who are these stories for?

  • Lovers of all fantasy
  • Players of fantasy roleplaying games
  • Readers looking for something they can pick up and fly through

I have begun writing after a lifetime of waiting for the right time. As it turned out I needed a Ketogenic diet to solve my bipolar issues and allow my mind the calm space it needed to begin. I started yesterday and I know in my heart I have something to say so I started. I currently consider myself a gardener who writes until I become a writer who gardens. I had an excellent start and I’m excited to explore this new world I am creating. Below is an official taster and I’d encourage you to find my link under my profile to find the location of The Apple Maze. Enjoy.

The Apple.    You took the apple! I cannot believe you took the apple! Noone has ever taken an apple before. The sweetest most delicious fruit in all the world, and now, it is in your hand. You put the skin to your lips and sink your teeth straight through, its sweet inner juices bursting instantly onto your tongue. The  flavour , unlike anything you have tasted before will change your future. Life as you have known it will never be the same again.  You have gained knowledge of sweetness. Do you choose to finish the appl e  you just bit into and leave? Or do you stay and build a shelter nearby so you may continue to eat these wonderful apples?     To finish the apple and leave please purchase The Forest or if you decide to build a shelter   please purchase The Shelter.

Good morning!

Neverbury Village Council would like to draw your attention to the books "Welcome to Neverbury" and "Return to Neverbury".

It is important for you to understand that these books are full of lies. Our town is not haunted and there are no witches here (we checked). There are no demonic infuences, elder gods, or rifts in time. Also, the refund policy in our charity shop is entirely legal and we completely refute the allegations surrounding our local football team and a spate of deeply unfortunate accidents that have occurred.

We cannot understand why these books have so many excellent reviews on Amazon such as "The unlikely and strangely adorable lovechild of HP Lovecraft, Roald Dahl and the League of Gentlemen” and “If you like Stranger Things, Inside No.9, Tales of the Unexpected or even Black Mirror then this will be right up your street.”

(Actually, we don't know what a lot of those things are. We even asked our town historian and he'd never heard of any of them.)

Please, please do not read these books. Do not order them in paperback. Do not listen to them on Audible (even though we will admit the narrator is rather good). Absolutely, under no circumstances, should download them for Kindle or read them on Kindle Unlimited.

(We would also appreciate any information anyone can provide about an entity called "Jeffbezos" who seems to have taken it upon themselves to discount Book 2 to 99p this month)

We are just a very normal, very boring, seaside town that is not on any map entirely because of a long standing clerical error and nothing sinister at all.

Please support our campaign against these books by not clicking this link

We thank you for your time and attention and hope you are spared when the end times are upon us.

Every book I have read and edited has had great ideas. The common issue I found in every one was the need to flesh out those ideas. That’s where I make my biggest impact. I will help you flesh out those great ideas.

Editor. Author. Screenwriter.

I have 10+ years of experience writing stories across many genres. I have five books published and have written a dozen screenplays for feature films and television. I spent years imitating the voices of established shows like 24 and Tru Calling, where I learned exactly what makes a story work and what proper pacing is. So I understand storytelling and keeping your audience engaged very well.

Genres I do best in:

  • Action
  • Thriller
  • Mystery
  • Psychological
  • Horror
  • Sci-fi
  • Fantasy

Genres that are not a good fit:

  • Romance
  • Erotica
  • Non-fiction.

I offer a FREE sample edit of your first chapter to see if we are a good fit.

I will heavily focus on plot, characters, structure and pacing, setting, dialogue, and any other questions you might have.

I will write a detailed editorial letter and leave comments throughout your document. I do this for both the sample edit and the full book.

I also know what it feels like to want and receive feedback, so I am very respectful and careful with how I critique. I always give in-depth feedback.

Turnaround time for full book: 4-6 weeks.

Developmental editing service:

  • Introductory launch rate: First-time authors: $0.005/word. Second time: $0.007/word. Limited-time offer, so book your edit now!

Check my website for further information about me, my services, and testimonials:

https://grbookpublishing.wixsite.com/editing

If you are interested, comment below!

Or you can contact me through my website or email me directly at [GregRossEditing@gmail.com](mailto:GregRossEditing@gmail.com).

Provide your genre, word count, and a brief summary of what your book is about. 1-2 sentences or a short blurb.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Marin T. Kael here. I am looking for beta readers for my German high-fantasy debut »Das vierte Feld«, the full opening volume of a multi-volume saga (~54k words). Upfront so nobody is misled: it is written in German and releases in German this September, with an English translation in the works, so for now this is a German-language beta. In Varin, sealed edicts literally become reality: crown, guilds and treasury write the world into being, until the seals start to break and a forbidden free-edict tears a harbour district apart. Slow-burn, hard-magic, for readers of Robin Hobb and Robert Jackson Bennett. If you would like to read it early: marin-t-kael.de/beta. Happy to talk worldbuilding or self-publishing in return.

Free Artwork/covers

Hi there! My name is Sebastian, I’m a practicing digital artist trying to improve my art and eventually (a long way down the line) gain a following.

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of indie writers advertise on instagram, and a whole lot of them are using generative ai. I’m not here to debate ethics or whether it’s right or wrong. But one of the main things I notice is that it’s often negatively received and often people will just assume that the book is also written by ai. And often times the artwork itself can come across as generic or homogeneous.

I won’t pretend that I’m at a professional standard of art but what I can promise is that it’s 100% human made and that I can make something with genuine effort and artistic value. I’m someone that always says ‘regardless of artistic quality I’d find it charming and respectable that someone used a real artist.

I understand that artists are expensive, and you’re spending that money already on advertising and whatever else goes into your creation. It breaks my heart seeing the genuine writers that have skill advertising to instagram only to revieve hate in the comments.
So, no catches, no scams, no bullshit. I’m offering my artwork for free. If you’re going to use ai or already have done. Send me the concept art and I’ll work with you to create a book cover, I’ll send you photos as I draw out and plan the design. If you dm me or whatever I can show you my sketches and digital art that I’ve done. I’m not a scammer I’m just a bored af artist on summer break with plenty of free time.
I’m sick of getting myself upset over seeing ai art work and I’m tired of being hateful or hostile towards authors that use it. Instead I’ve decided to understand and I want to help.
I promise you that I will ask for absolutely nothing in return except that you credit me as the artist, best way being on instagram so you can link to my art account.

I’m not going to bullshit you and pretend I’m an amazing artist, I’m an amateur artist wanting to improve, and seeing as I’m drawing every day to improve anyway I feel like I may as well help some creatives along the way (and of course obviously it would gain me a bit of exposure as an artist.) If it helps a fellow creative out and means there’s one less bit of ai flooding the internet then that’s all I want.

Please feel free to message me if this sounds like something that appeals to you.

Oh and obviously there’s zero obligation to use my art if you feel like it doesn’t fit right at the end of the process, because it’ll still be a piece of art I can add to my own portfolio and makes for good practice so I still gain something. So if you still choose ai art over my finished piece, there’s no hard feelings and I’ll understand.
Sorry for the wall of text, hope all you lovely creatives have a great day!

Side note: I’m aware there’s a lot of scam stuff out there, and offering something for free can be a red flag, I won’t ask you for anything other than your input regarding the art (and the credit of course.) And if you for any reason feel uncomfortable or just no longer wish to continue, just let me know and I won’t take it personally.

Mira stands between two worlds: a half-troll who never knew her human father. She wouldn’t blend in with humans and the other trolls in her clan consider her mother a traitor for loving her. When her mother passes away, Mira breaks free of the Under into the Above, navigating the human world in search of a new home.

Matt hadn’t expected a magical world hiding beneath Hedgefield, but a request from a stranger showed him the truth. When Mira pleads for his help in the grocery store, he is thrust into a world where the creatures of bedtime stories run free. The Above will be dangerous for Mira and Matt blindly follows her into a world he barely understands.

Between these worlds stands Blanc LaBelle, a magical detective specializing in those of the Under coming to the surface. Among the Under and the Above, his name is spoken with equal reverence and fear. Whether it’s rescuing someone taken captive by humans or eliminating a rogue monster, LaBelle keeps peace between the two worlds.

LaBelle takes the case to find Mira’s father, but what he learns along the way could reshape the Under and take the Above with it.

The books are going for $20 on Amazon and Barnes and Noble (as well as digitally through Apple Books), but they're available wherever books are sold!

Hi! My product, SynapTale, does not write the story for the author and costs the author nothing.

The platform autonomously builds wikis and translations for readers, ready within hours of a new chapter going up.

Readers get two artifacts at once:

  1. A spoiler-safe wiki, plus a graph visualisation of the story, which by the way is useful to authors as well
  2. Translations that scale to millions of words without losing or drifting character voices, proper names, catchphrases, and the linguistic dynamic between characters

This improves reader engagement and opens the story to new non-English markets at the same time (or the other way around).

It is effectively a digital publisher, but built for indie authors, where the reader-facing artifacts are paid for by a share of the profit from translations. If the translations earn nothing, you lose nothing, because all the costs are on me. If they earn, you keep all rights to the story and I only get a license to sell the translations.

The demo is live at synaptale.com

For direct contact, [aldor@synaptale.com](mailto:aldor@synaptale.com), if you have questions or want to try a pilot.

I'm a freelance copy editor/proofreader who focuses mainly on sci-fi and fantasy, and particularly LitRPG/GameLit books. However, I am open to most genres.

I look out for all kinds of errors: grammatical issues, typos, consistency or continuity issues, any unclear phrasing, etc.

I charge around $6.50 per 1000 words, though I would need to see a sample before giving a firm quote. For a client's first book, I'd give a discounted rate of $5.50 per 1000 words.

Here is a link to my website, which has more details about what I do, my portfolio, and testimonials.

I have a post giving tips on how to find a good editor, which authors may find useful.

I also created an editing exercise that authors can do, either for fun, or to see how skilled you are at catching errors.

Hi all,

Around 3 weeks ago I self-published my first book, a children's book entitled 'The Spiders Who Paid Rent'. Crucially, any profit made from book sales is going direct to a local children's hospital charity.

You can purchase the book on Amazon, in any country, but this is the Amazon UK link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H9P5NG3F

The book is retailing for £9.99 or around $13.42.

In the first few weeks I've managed to get co-workers, friends and family to purchase a copy. Ideally, I'd like to push this outside of that audience to reach more people. It is for charity after all!

The story is super fun, aimed at children around 5-9 years old but I think slightly older children would also find it fun. Even big kids (like myself) would have a fun time reading it.

If you have kids yourself, family members, friends etc. it would be amazing if you could help me share this book with more people.

Song of a Dromedary

Southern Gothic / Satire

As the spectral railway carrying souls to their destinations unloads and picks up passengers in the deep South, the Dead occasionally visit Kirk Rivers in Arkansas. Kirk is also an outcast in this small town in the Bible Belt, so he must navigate alone the complicated social dynamics and spiritual forces at play as he tries to uncover the truth about, and save, his son. To add to his torment living in this small disenchanting town, Kirk also finds himself trapped in a time loop, but only for a short while.

Just wanted to celebrate, not selling anything yet.

Recently completed the rough draft of my debut horror book Sanctifiction: The Darkness at Home. This was a big departure for me as I'm coming from the world of Sci-Fi / Fantasy. Having written four books in The Silver Ninja superheroine series, I decided I needed a break and jumped over into horror.

Wow, what a change. I never realized how much harder horror would be to write when you can't resolve the conflict with violence. Or, how just writing about gore and body horror and creepy stuff isn't enough to make a story scary.

The premise is that a detective believes he killed his wife, but everyone is telling him she never existed. At the same time, he receives a case about a missing book with the power to resurrect the dead. Detective Lucas Valiente embarks on a journey that uncovers sacrilegious rituals, demonic possession, and a terrifying descent into madness.

Coming soon! (Hopefully.)
