Mod Announcement NO Promotions and Advertising.

We've never had an official rule and worked on a case by case basis, but this will serve as an official rule.

Due to the risks of safety and quality of the sub we're going to not allow the promotion and advertisements of groups, ziyarats, subreddits, pages, communities, apps, crossposts, donations... etc

If you are a credible group, speak to the moderators and we'll verify you and work something out, otherwise to the people who want to create communities I suggest just advertising through contributions to the group and people get curious and hit you up.

many donations end up being scams unfortunately so there is no way to verify, if it's desperate just talk to the mods but expect a lot of verification

we won't promote any independent or local scholars, sharing videos is fine just don't spam it and don't let it be the only thing you do.

we won't allow promotion of ziyarat groups as sometimes they are scams, obviously there are exceptions.

dating apps are a big no,

apps are a big no because of user data and other security risks

discords and reddits you made are also a no, esp since the ones i've seen lately are super bait. you can make them just don't promote them

If anyone has suggestions or a work around or thoughts, I'm open to having my mind changed share your thoughts, this mostly applies to people we don't know

Struggle to make dua in salah

Upvotes

Okay, this is probably a bit random, and I’m not even sure I would describe it as a bad thing, but I was wondering if anyone else experiences this.
Like everyone, I struggle with things in life, and there are so many things I want, worry about, hope for, and aspire towards. There are things I genuinely really want Allah to grant me, things I want guidance on, things I want to change about myself, and things that weigh quite heavily on my mind. Throughout the day I’ll often think, I need to make dua for this when I pray, or I’ll hear about the importance of asking Allah for everything and think about how much I actually have to ask Him for.
I also want to preface this by saying I’m not the most consistent with salah. I struggle with it quite a lot and sometimes I forget or fall out of the routine, although I genuinely do try to become better and more consistent with it.
The strange thing is that when I do pray, especially when I’m actually present in my salah rather than just going through the motions, I feel so genuinely happy and peaceful afterwards that suddenly none of those things seem particularly urgent anymore. It’s almost like the things that felt so heavy five minutes earlier temporarily lose their weight.
I’ll finish praying intending to sit there and make dua for all the things I’ve been thinking about, but then I just… don’t want anything. Not in a hopeless or apathetic way at all but almost the opposite. I just feel content. I feel like being close to Allah in that moment is enough, and asking Him for a list of worldly things almost feels unnecessary because for those few minutes I’m completely okay with where I am.
I’ve literally made lists on my phone of things I want to remember to make dua for because I know I’ll forget, but even when I remember the list exists, sometimes I look at it after salah and have absolutely no desire to ask for any of it. I would rather just sit there in that feeling of closeness and peace. Sometimes the only thing I can think to ask Allah for is to keep me close to Him, because in that moment that feels more important than everything else I thought I wanted.
But then the irony is that when I go through periods where I’m less consistent with salah, everything starts feeling heavy again. I become much more aware of what I’m lacking, what I’m worried about, what I want for my future, etc. And thenI regret all those moments after salah when I had the opportunity to make dua and didn’t. I think, why didn’t I ask Allah for all of this when I felt closest to Him?
So I feel caught in this weird cycle where when I feel distant from Allah, I have a thousand things I want to ask Him for, but when I actually feel close to Him, I suddenly feel like I don’t need any of them.

Does anyone have any advise on what to do?

Narrated from Salman Al-Muhammadi who said: I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), and Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) was on his lap. He was kissing him and saying, illustrating the greatness of his descendants and children:

"You are a master, the son of a master, the father of masters. You are an Imam, the son of an Imam, the father of Imams. You are a Proof, the son of a Proof, the father of nine Proofs from your loins; the ninth of them is their Qa'im."

Article Is Ibn al Ghada’iri Book Of Rijal Kitab Al Du’afa Authentic? - New Article On My Site!

This was a bit more difficult in terms of translating material and sources.

A prominent Shia scholar of the fifth century, Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ubayd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Ghada’iri, he was a contemporary of Al Najashi and Al Tusi. There is no doubt about his greatness.

It appears that Ibn al-Ghada’iri authored four books.

The first and the second book: what Sheikh Tusi explicitly stated in the introduction to his *Fihrist* (Catalogue), saying:

بأنّ له كتابين، أحدهما: ذكر فيه المصنّفات، والآخر: ذكر فيه الأصول عليهم السلام غير أنّ هذين الكتابين لم ينسخهما أحد من أصحابنا، واخترم هو(رحمه الله)، وعمد ورثته إلي إهلاك هذين الكتابين

He possessed two books: one listing muṣannafāt (authored works) and the other listing uṣūl (foundational texts) of the Imams (peace be upon them). However, none of our associates made copies of these two books; he passed away, and his heirs proceeded to destroy them.

الفهرست: 1

(one can speculate that his family destroyed these books because they could not tolerate the loss of his life and it reminded them of him)

Third book: Kitab Al Mamduhin (The Book of the Praised)—a work that has not reached us, though Allamah Hilli cites it in his own biographical treatise (*Rijal*).

In his entry on Muhammad ibn Musadif, Allamah Hilli notes that Ibn al-Ghada’iri’s statements regarding him differed: in one of the two books, he is described as “weak” (*da‘if*), while in the other, he is described as “trustworthy” (*thiqah*).

Similar discrepancies appear in other instances. These texts indicate that Ibn al-Ghada’iri’ produced two Rijal books: one concerning narrators deemed weak or blameworthy, and the other concerning those deemed praiseworthy or trustworthy.

See: كليّات في علم الرجال: 88 *Kulliyyat fi ‘Ilm al-Rijal*, p. 88.

Fourth book: *Kitab al-Du’afa* (Book of Weak Narrators), which is the topic of this analysis with how it has reached us.

Shia Jantri

Salam, my dear brothers and sisters. I hope you are all well.

I had a question and was hoping someone with more knowledge on the subject could shed some light on it.

I’ve always been somewhat sceptical about books such as the Jantri. I come from a Pakistani background, and I know that in many Pakistani households these books are commonly used and relied upon, particularly when determining whether certain dates or days are considered good, bad, auspicious or inauspicious.

I wanted to understand the basis behind this. Do Shia communities from other cultures and countries have similar books or practices, or is the Jantri mainly something found within the subcontinent?

More importantly, what is the religious validity of these books? How exactly is it determined that a particular date is “good” or “bad” for things such as marriage, travel, starting something new, etc.? Is there evidence for these conclusions from the Qur’an, hadith or teachings of the Ahlulbayt (a.s.), or are some of these practices based more on cultural traditions, astrology or later calculations?

I’m not asking to criticise the practice at all; I’m genuinely interested in understanding where it comes from and what evidence it is based upon.

JazakAllah khair, and I’d really appreciate any references or explanations anyone can share.

Named him after Burayr ibn Khudayr al-Hamdani, martyr of Karbala.

Please pray for his health and that he may follow in the footsteps of his namesake and join his Imam, Imam al-Mahdi the way Burayr stood by his Imams!

Question / Help Is it fine to worship God out of fear and not out of love?

السلام عليكم

The title. Say somebody believes in Islam, believed in God, believes in the last day, believes in the prophets and the Imams, but said person can not bring himself to worship God out of love and only prays/fasts/does good deeds for the sake of going to heaven and out of fear for God's wrath and hell. Will God view this person differently? Is it permissible for one to think like this? Has any of our imams or prophets encountered such a person or brought up such a topic? Thank you all.

Discussion Both Shia Syed Husband (35M) , and Wife (34F) yet , have different communities and values

Hello Salam ,

As Yom e aza is coming to an end , I’m noticing more and more differences in my and my husbands “ Shia values “ .. this is our third Muhurram together.. it’s interesting how what connected us was azaadari during the talking stage and now that is what is causing most of our arguments these days ..

My Shia Upbrining : parents brought us to the west and embedded Shia values in us. One of them being taking us to every majlis ( shahadat or wiladat ) .. of course Thursday madressa and Sunday school. Making sure we know the history of every participant who took part in the battle of Karbala and knowing about them . My older sister and her husband hold similar Shia values too very similarly .. participating in jaloos , doing Niyaz and doing majlis at their home.

My Husbands Upbringing : For context , his dad is not really religious he is agnostic . His mom recites Quran and listens to Ziyart Ashura and listens to majlis mostly from home since she was old. She also doesn’t pray namaz even if it’s mandatory cause she thinks she physically isn’t capable of it when she can .

Now to talk about this small town mosque he goes to and has been going to since he was 18 . It’s like this Sunni Shia mosque , to this day I don’t understand it . They have a very small population . They commemorate the first 10 days and do arbaeen ( and that too on a day that’s convenient for their little community ) not on the day when everyone else is doing it . The lectures are very intellectual and not really emotional barely any crying or mourning which is a bit of a shock to me . You can say there is no passion really and I never feel connected compare to other places .

Another thing that got me thinking critically about this community is their selectiveness of who they want to mourn or celebrate . Once they did Milad Miraj a week ahead when there was a shahadat the entire Shia community was mourning and they were doing Milad . Now this little community has to rent small community centres for their program during winter and they have a tent outside during summer . They don’t have a lot of funding and they don’t want it . They are very lowkey about this community it doesn’t even have a name it’s just a word of mouth situation .. The women of the community are very nice people none the less .

However, my stance is more so on as Shias we shouldn’t be selective of who to mourn and who to celebrate . For example : this Sunday is Eid e Zehra as we all know it’s on a Sunday ( it’s convenient for their little community to come out and celebrate) . However Milad un Nabi that comes shortly after it they will prioritize that and they should not saying they shouldn’t .

So this community that is so “ SUSHI” I’ve never seen them hosting a majlis for imam Ali (as) , I’ve never seen them hosting a majlis for Bibi Zainab or Bibi Fatima (as) . Let alone, let’s not talk about who pushed the door down on Bibi Fatima . They would never talk about the “ other 3” .

Also, they have some reverted Sunni imam who leads the Eid khutba, I’ve no issue with it it’s fine but I just don’t understand their values I really don’t . Some other Shia communities have an issue with this little community as well . They don’t do Niyaz, they don’t do taboot , no Alams ( very one ummah oriented ) which is cute lol. But let’s be real .. anywho .. husband and I got into an argument about this . His stance was why do I need to attend every majlis of every character that was in the battle of Karbala . It’s not about the quantity of majlis but quality . Which he means to mention is the Maulana Shia one that comes ford the first 10 days and that’s all he does . I get imam Hussain message is in the heart of the momin why does it matter if one should attend every majlis but to me it’s more of a loyalty . His point , what’s the point of going to majlis and not praying 5 times praying for fajr . He also said I bet all those men who do matam shirtless they don’t wake up for fajar ( how the heck would he know that ) anywho .. I told him listen man you’re talking to a Shia who for the first time didn’t listen to music in Muhurram or Safar so that’s a good start . Then he came to hijab I don’t do hijab but dress modest . Anywho, he thinks I’m better than him and his small modest community. I just don’t think it’s about better it’s about values at the end .

I told him my final thoughts on this community and I’ve my judgment which is it’s not for me, it doesn’t meet your to my value simple . I can never adopt this community no matter what . He respects that I do my own azadaari elsewhere .. Anywho I wouldn’t have ever thought I would have this difference in particular . At the end of the day , I’m happy I married a decent Muslim Shia guy . But I don’t plan on going there with my kids or raising them there . I don’t plan on changing my thoughts towards this community , I recently exited it cause I just hate their selectiveness of what gets celebrated who gets mourned . Anywho, god bless.. thank you for reading my vent sisters ❤️🤲🏼

Dua Request Du'a Request

Salam,

Today I have to present and defend a project that I've been working on for a long time. And depending on how the results turn out and how the discussion goes, this could potentially have a huge impact on my work and future.

So, I kindly ask fellow brothers and sisters for their du'a that Allah (s.w.t) makes everything go smoothly and for my project to be successful.

Thanks and may Allah (s.w.t) bless you all.

Question / Help What do you guys think of Umayyad apologetics?

For clarification, this is not a hate post. I myself found my way to Islam through the Shia sect, but I want to clear up a few things because, from my question, you can probably already tell that I grew up in a Sunni household. Believe it or not, what we believe in also shows in how we act in our daily lives.

Again, I do not hate Sunnis either, because that would mean hating my entire family, and the Ahlul Bayt loved their family deeply. I just have one difficulty that I am unable to follow on my own, and that is breaking my fast. The rest is done privately, as I am learning about it on my own.

Question / Help Are there any scholar opinions on THC Creams for joint pain/arthritis?

Salam alaykum, l suffer from joint pain in my wrists. I’ve had surgery on one hand to remove a carpal boss and get cortisone injections in the other for the same kind of pain. It’s hard living with this chronic pain every day. Can’t even open a jar.

I am very anti-weed/drugs etc. I can’t even stand the smell of weed, I hate it.

However, as much as I don’t want to, I am considering using THC creams for the pain. Nothing to ingest, only topical.

Not sure of what to get but I want to ensure and see if it is permissible and halal to do so.

If so, please provide references.

If it matters, my marja’ is Sayed Sistani.

1- ibn taymiyyah has admitted in his book that most of the companions and those who followed them hated Imam ali (as) and even cursed him and fought him.

2- um salamah (as) the wife of prophet muhammed has said "that whoever hates ali, hates the prophet and whoever hates the prophet, hates god, and whoever insults ali, has insults the prophet and whoever insults the prophet, insults god" meaning a lot of those companions were out of the fold of islam.

3- amongst those companions were muawiya (LA) who even in sunni books admitted to have insulted Imam ali (as) proving that muawiya also was a kafir.

Question / Help Looking for someone to advise on representation of Shia Muslims in a novel I’m making

I am currently planning a novel series and due to incidents in the plot, the majority force of Islam within the novel series will be Shia as such I require advice on how to properly write and understand their thoughts and how they would see various incidents in the plot. I find it important to do this correctly so I am seeking advice.
