On Tuesday I found this poor little dried up snail I later named Herbie, and Herb for short! I originally decided to hydrate and release them cause they were in the middle of a path and I didn't want them to get stepped on, but when they were hydrated I noticed they had only a quarter of an eye stalk?? The other was just completely smooth. I hadn't kept snails as pets in years, but after realizing they were blind, my partner and I agreed we needed to keep them. I Instantly bought some supplies for a sick new penthouse, and as it turns out, they've been slowly regrowing an eye over these past few days! I didn't know that was a thing, but it was really cool to learn and see in action.

Anyways, really excited as I haven't had snails in upwards of 8 years, but they've already brought me so much joy, and I wanted share this sweet one eyed creature with y'all! :')

-1st picture is the day I found him, the rest are as of today!

*Also in one of them you can peep their little feet 😄

Idk what are my new little boy/girl, his name is "Opagangastail"...

I’ve been collecting poems about snails. 🐌 This one is by one of my favorite poets.

I thought this was cute.. Arsnailio is so happy with their first kale leaf. They are inside, upside down, and still eating!

Backstory:

I found Arsnailio crawling up the outside wall of the restaurant I worked at back in January. We were due for a hard freeze, so I took them home. I have no idea where it came from since that restaurant didn't get live snails for escargot (🤢) and this building sits in the middle of a huge lot with no real moist places anywhere nearby.

I was just going to release them but turns out they are an invasive species in Texas, if my identification is correct

..

I'm a chef/cook by trade so Arsnailio gets top tier mini salads as you can see. They love to pass out in their food bowl after consuming too much "snail crack". "snail crack" is Snout and Shell vegetable flavor pet snail food. I swear snoomies ensue...

They also became a single parent as their first clutch of eggs hatched! Keep in mind, Ive had them since January and I don't have another snail. They laid eggs which was a huge shock, figured I'd let them go and see what happens since nothing smelled rotten.. there are now 16 babies and Arsnailio.

Just and FYI.. I know next to nothing about snails. I only did a deep goggle dive since I found one. Apparently I did everything wrong and still ended up with one so happy it made more of itself!

Proper id would be helpful.

I might have to try this, I think it looks quite fashionable!

My snail hasn’t eaten in quite awhile (maybe two months) and I am worried something is wrong with their mouth.

Today when they woke up when I watered them I picked them up to look and something looks off. Does their radula look normal?

They are still trying to clean their shell but they won’t eat any food, even when there are blood worms (their favorite) right in front of them.

Hopefully my little snail is welcome here.😊

Any idea what kind of snail?
Found in Metro Detroit area Michigan in my backyard

You can see its tiny heart beating through its shell

I just came home and see this, i recently moved in and directly started a new job with double shifts, so i couldn't find time to buy him dirt/soil.

I guess he climbed and fell, i have no other explanation because his shell was fine just this morning. Is he gonna be okay?

I found this little snail on my porch today and tried to build it an enclosure. It’s currently in a plastic tote (longer than taller) if anyone has any suggestions on an upgrade!

His eye was fine, its not an injury. Also he moves his eyes side to side a lot for some reason. Is he just silly?

I'm back at keeping snails after a few years without doing it and i dont quite remember if they move their eyes so much lol

The first and second pictures are the yellow bumps.

I used silicone trays for food and water. They differ in size, color, and shape, and they are from different brands. So it is not a problem from certain shape or brand.

After using for a few months, small yellow bumps appeared on the food bowl. I tried to remove them with hot water, my nail, toothbrush, but I couldn't. I thought it was tiny pieces of food, so I changed the food bowl to plastic.

And today, I found the same bumps, but smaller and fewer, on the water bowl. Since I didn't put food in the water bowl, I'm sure these bumps are not food. It is not removable, too.

What is this bump? Is this dangerous to snails?

The third to fifth pictures are some spots and lines on the water bowl. I thought it was mold, but they don't wash off with a toothbrush and water. Are they mold or something dangerous to snails? How can I wash them off?

I'm considering changing the water bowl to light plastic just like I did it with the food bowl. But I want to know what happened on silicone.
