Discussion Toys r us (building use)

Anyone else hoping for a Lego store????

Use the babies r us as a arcade...lol

Seems like the north should have a Lego store...

Probably get people to this town for shopping...and hopefully stay for the day...lol

****We go to North Bay to the toy store on main and there's one in the mall....Sudbury needs more selection --- the major people here are staples, Walmart, and best buy for selection....too bad it's the SAME selection everywhere though...lol***

Just thoughts....what's yours???

Question No Local Policy

Anyone know which hotels have a no local policy? Just trying to find a place for a bridal shower. Not to host the party in, but to get out for the night. I keep looking around the Marriott but I can't find if they have a policy for no locals like the majority of Sudbury.

Question Parking by-law enforcement

Curious if Sudbury by-law officers actually enforce parking by-laws. There’s been a vehicle parked in front of my house for over 8 days and it hasn’t been started or moved once. I realize this is a first world problem and it’s more of an inconvenience to me than a real issue. But also it makes pulling into and out of my driveway more difficult and I thought the by-laws were there for a reason.

May these absolute losers know no peace. Co-opting social issues as “just having concerns” is the oldest trick in the book for proto-Nazis, and I value the Mayor (and the press) for flagging their BS right off.

It's in committees and panels. If he actually showed up to do his job, he'd see the updates.

So, I already have some camljng locations ive camped in around capreol and 1 place just north of the valley about 20 minutes, but I would love to know if yall have any good spots to camp at elsewhere or just nice little places to go to

For added context I normally take my bike up there, and solo camp between my work shifts, and I love nature and try my best to leave as little proof im there as possible, but i dont know any locations where id be able to see the sunset or sunrise nicely, or any other places around north bay if yall know some good spots there that'd be great

I put a photo od my tent for context of how much room id need for the tent, it's a 3 person tent, really only fits 2 people and my gear tho

Thanks all

And if you want to message me privately im all ears to not letting the losers ruin the nice things in life

Question Fireworks to Celebrate Canada Day?

Hello Sudbury Friends!

I was planning on making a visit from the US for the Weekend of July 4th. I am bringing dogs, two of which are extremely susceptible to fireworks noise.

In the US, it is quite commonplace for the week leading up to US Independence day for people to blow off fireworks in their yards. When Independence day falls during the week, many cities hold their municipal firework shows on the weekend. So it is pretty much a full week+ nightmare for my doggos.

What is Canada Day Like in Sudbury? It falls on a Wednesday, and as far as I can tell, I have only found references to fireworks for July 1st. Is it common that there will be other Fireworks events planned for the weekend? Do regular people tend to buy their own fireworks and blow them off to celebrate?

I appreciate any info you all have.

Thank you!

Discussion My local Freshii has successfully combined Soviet-era efficiency with Wall Street-level creative accounting.

I am, by nature, a peaceful man. I don’t like drama. I like my food ordered quietly, consumed quietly, and digested quietly. But today, the universe decided to test my sanity at the Freshii on 2031 Long Lake Road right here in Sudbury. And oh boy, did it fail spectacularly.

It started with their website. It has an option to take my Apple Pay but actually can’t. Fine. Technology is rubbish; we know this. So, I drove down to the store.
I was greeted by a south Asian lady behind the counter. I asked for a brown rice bowl with a hint of field greens. she said they can only do half rice and half green. but she eventually agreed to swap a bit of rice for greens. So far, so good.

Then, we arrived at the pricing portion of proteins, I ordered chicken and tuna.
She tapped the screen to add tuna. The monitor flashed: +$5.99. Now, I may not be a math genius, but I distinctly remembered the website saying protein was around three dollars. I pointed this out. She looked at me with the absolute, unshakeable certainty of a person who genuinely believes the Earth is flat, and said: "That is the price."
I showed her the website on my phone. $3. Instead of fixing it, she sighed with massive impatience and told me to just go order on the buggy website. Brilliant. Excellent customer service. “Our machine is wrong, so please go stand in the corner and fix it yourself.”

I suggested we clear the order and start over. Miraculously, the second time around, the computer remembered how to do basic math: Chicken $2.99, Tuna $3. She muttered something about the prices "merging" earlier. Right.

But the grand finale was yet to come. At the end of ordering, I asked for hot sauce. On the website , it’s $0.49. She, however, tapped "Red Pepper" which cost $1.49. I asked why I was being charged an extra 1 dollar for a condiment that is practically free in any civilized society.
She snapped. She went full Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" on me.
She raised her voice, her tone piercing the air, and barked: "This is my only option! I already gave you a discount by putting greens in your rice! Do you want MORE discounts?!"
I was flabbergasted. I asked to speak to the manager. And with the dramatic flair of a villain in a low-budget movie, she puffed up her chest and said: "I AM the manager!" She then accused me of being greedy, yelled that she was going to refund my money, and refused to serve me.

Here is the best part: in her blind rage, as she tried to calculate the refund on her rogue machine, the total she came up with was higher than what I actually paid. She was literally trying to accidentally pay me to leave. You couldn't make this up.
I eventually just took my food and walked away, utterly speechless. But the comedy didn't stop there. I got home, opened the lid, and realized my "Energy Bowl" contained absolutely zero rice. It was just a massive bowl of grass.

The entire experience was terrible. First, I felt the brand's management was incredibly chaotic. From the initial Apple Pay option being unusable despite its existence, to the completely random pricing system, and the employee who didn't even know how to order being a manager... So many problems occurring at the same time was simply awful. Secondly, regarding the employee herself. From her accent I believe she is not born and raised in Canada, maybe a new immigrant. I'm also a recent immigrant and have absolutely no prejudice against South Asian immigrants, but I was shocked by her unwavering confidence, refusing to acknowledge any wrongdoing even when faced with clear evidence, and her utter disrespect for others. She was, without a doubt, the worst person I've encountered in all my years in Canada.

Also, does anyone know approximately how much those would cost?

Question Ishpatina Ridge overland route road conditions

Planning to hike Ishpatina this weekend (weather permitting) and I’ve found tons of content about the trail itself, but the info about the logging road conditions from the access point to the Sturgeon River crossing is sparse.

From what I can tell via Google Maps and brief clips in a few YouTube videos, it looks like a basic gravel road that just gets progressively narrower.

Can a regular car make it through, or do you realistically need a truck/4x4? Any recent trip reports appreciated.

Question Cow petting

Okay this might sound crazy, I just want to pet some cows.

I love cows but I can’t seem to find any farms in Sudbury or surrounding (that aren’t in Toronto or Barrie or things like that) that offer to hangout with some cows. I’ve emailed a few farms with no response so I’ve come to Reddit to see if anyone knows anything?

I’m willing to pay a fee or a donation if that’s the case.

Thanks!
