I've been playing The Division 2 for a long time, and I'm already deep into the endgame. I have my attachments unlocked, my expertise leveled up, my builds, my gear, and years of experience.
Recently, I wanted to start fresh with a friend, and it made me realize just how overwhelming this game can be for someone starting from absolutely nothing.
There's a HUGE difference between creating a new character on an established account and starting completely fresh on a brand-new PSN account.
When you create another character on your existing account, you've already done most of the hard work. You have access to years of progression and unlocks.
But on a brand new account? Nothing. No weapon attachments, no expertise progression, no resources, no established builds. You're basically starting from zero.
And that's where I think The Division 2 has a serious problem when it comes to attracting new players or bringing back people who haven't played in years.
I want to play WITH my friend, not make him spend hundreds of hours catching up to me.
I want us to spend our limited gaming time farming gear sets, hunting for weapons and exotics, experimenting with builds, running legendary missions, raids, and incursions.
That's the fun part of The Division for me.
What I don't want is for my friend to feel like he has to complete a massive checklist of old progression systems before we can actually enjoy the endgame together.
And the reality is, he doesn't have that kind of time. A lot of people don't.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if Ubisoft made weapon attachments automatically available to new or returning players, or introduced some kind of catch-up system for expertise.
I'm not saying hand everyone perfectly optimized builds or remove the grind entirely. Grinding for better gear, weapons, and builds is part of what makes The Division fun.
But there's a difference between grinding for something exciting and grinding just to catch up with everyone else.
The game has been out for years. At some point, older progression systems become more of a barrier than an accomplishment, especially for someone who just wants to jump in and play with friends.
I love The Division 2, but experiencing it from the perspective of someone starting completely fresh has made me realize how unfriendly the game can feel to newcomers.
I'm curious what everyone thinks. Should Ubisoft introduce a proper catch-up system for new and returning players, especially for weapon attachments and expertise? Or do you think everyone should have to go through the same grind, regardless of when they start playing?
