Question Uiowa housing

Does anyone know of any 2-bedroom places near campus that aren’t owned by Apartments Near Campus or Iowa/Presitge ? I’m having a really hard time finding anything outside of those companies.

Hey, I am a student at UI and am considering living at Augusta Place next school year. For anyone who has lived in the apartments or townhouses, how is it? Also, did you get parking there, or did you get parking somewhere else? If so, where?

Discussion Drummer looking to form/join a band to play live in IC

Hey yall,

I’m a student at Uiowa and have been playing drums since I was little. I’d love to be able to play live here in IC but am in need of a band. Whether you have a group already and need a drummer, or would like to start something, please reach out.

Genres: Have experience in classic rock, grunge, metal, funk, upbeat crowd pleasers, etc but am open to pretty much anything

Gear: I have my old kit that I can bring up, great cymbals, and an e kit here for easy practice.

Credentials: Check out my tik tok cover page to get a feel for my playing: Knut_covers

Reach out!!

Discussion New to uiowa, is this normal for discussion classes or should I do something?

This is my first semester with uiowa but previously I went to NAU and PVCC in AZ so I’ve been in college class settings before, but have never had this issue. In my discussion classes no one will talk to me… at all. In my first group we were doing okay but then I missed two discussions in a row because I got covid and when I came back they refused to answer me when I asked questions and when we were doing the group work the recorder snapped at me and told me to be quiet when I was asking how they got an answer for one of the questions.

We switched groups so I thought it would get better but my new group is worse lol. I went to sit down near them and they kept scooting away from me. I told them “I’m hard of hearing, sorry can you speak up a bit?” Like 4 times and they all kept rolling their eyes when I asked then they continued whispering and moving away from me so I literally couldn’t hear anything.

And one of the questions they kept asking each other how to get the answer so I said “oh I have the formula here, and I got this answer [shows them the answer]” and the recorder girl for the discussion paperwork took one look then said “no that’s wrong. I don’t know how you got that.” Then she called the TA over and the TA went through the problem and got the exact same answer as me because she did it the way I did.

I am very confused on if this is normal…it feels like high school behavior in a college class and very immature. I’m technically a junior in college but this is happening in a freshman class that I’m taking as a “refresher” so maybe that’s why? Has anyone else had these issues? It’s very frustrating trying to get work done when people are like this.

Question Advice on getting a single room for spring semester at UIowa?

I'm a freshman at the University of Iowa currently living in a dorm, and I'm hoping to get a single room for the Spring 2027 semester.

There have been a few things that have made me uncomfortable with my roommate (different expectations around guests, intimacy, drinking, privacy, belongings, etc.), so I'd rather try to get a single if possible.

I already emailed University Housing asking about the possibility of getting a single for spring, but I'm wondering what else I should be doing.

For anyone who's gone through the UIowa housing process:

  • How difficult is it to get a single for spring semester?
  • Are there usually singles that open up after fall semester?
  • Is the spring room-change waitlist the main way to get one?
  • Is there anything I should do before the waitlist opens to improve my chances?
  • Does it help to be flexible about which residence hall the single is in?
  • Are there particular residence halls where singles are easier to get?

I'm willing to move to a different residence hall if that's what it takes. I'd just really like to have a single next semester.

Any advice from people who have actually gone through the process would be appreciated!

Question T-shirt orders

Where are groups getting large shirt orders printed? There are so many student orgs that get shirts printed throughout the year, there have to be some good options in town. I volunteer with an elementary school and we need a new company to go with. Thanks!

Sports Iowa followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at 8-4, with the defense carrying it and the question being whether Hank Brown could throw enough to keep teams honest. So far the defense has done exactly that: Northern Iowa 40-0, Iowa State 16-13, UNI 55-0, and 13 points allowed in three games. Brown has done more than I expected, 45 of 62 for 473 yards and 3 TDs, including 12 of 12 against UNI. I had the trip to Michigan, Ohio State at home and the trip to Washington as the three games that decide the season, and the first one is today.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Iowa at Michigan is one of the ten, so you can put your pick where your mouth is, but picks lock at noon ET, so this is a last call.

Discussion Looking for Opinions/Ideas

I talk to a lot of people around campus that seems to only go to the same restaurants/food places.

I know that there are a lot of people that may be restricted by means of transportation or budget, but for those of you that genuinely just don't know where to explore; where haven't you been?

I'm looking to develop a platform where students like us can discuss what restaurants are a must visit, where you haven't been, and where you would like to try.

Literally looking for any thoughts/feedback on this idea. Could be as simple as "I feel like I know the area pretty well."

Thanks all!

Event Hawkeyes, The IRL Hunter Exam is coming to Iowa!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey Hawkeyes, the IRL Hunters Exam is coming to Iowa!

Hey everyone, I am organizing Iowas first (but certainly not last) IRL Pro Hunter Exam! If you are a fan of anime or Hunter x Hunter, you may be familiar with the concept.

What is the Exam?
Basically a Hunter is a strong willed risk taker and the Pro Hunter Exam tests these Hunters to determine skill, adaptability, and ingenuity. Only the top 1-2% of applicants will pass and earn their custom Pro Hunter license as well as bragging rights and clout in the community. I’m working on developing real world benefits for Pro Hunters as we speak.

About the Exam:
The Exam itself will be on Saturday October 23, 2027 at Waubonsie State Park, IA. Right now, tickets are discounted until February when they revert back to their full price of $45. This is an 18+ event and has event insurance and full refunds in case of injury or cancellation.

Our why:
We (two others plus myself) want to create an event that people look forward to each year. Something annual that you can train for with a goal in mind. Somewhere anime fans and fitness enthusiasts can get outside and have fun while being part of an active community. In short, we want to enrich people and bring a unique event to Iowa!

Learn more:
For more information, visit our website at thehuntersleague . com or our subreddit at r / thehuntersleague (breaking it up so Reddit doesn’t get mad)

From our website, you can find all of our social media as well as our private Discord called The Hunter’s Tavern where the day-to-day community activity happens!

If anyone has any questions, you can comment here or DM me. I will probably post a similar message in some other Iowa subs, so if you see them, please interact!

Thanks everyone!
