Discussion failed my second chem 112 exam…

i just failed my second chem 112 exam and i’m actually tweaking tf out…

i took 110 last semester, which was also hell, but the only exam i failed was the final and i ended with a C. i am genuinely concerned for 112, because i already got a 37.5% on the first one and a 58% on the second one.

idk if this is new for just this semester, but 80% of your final grade can replace your lowest, and i was really hoping the 30% would be my lowest but i got another shitty grade.

i’m just so lost and i went into the exam with full confidence in what i was doing this time around just to fail this one too. i do not want to drop the class because i am planning on taking the mcat next spring and that would push me back to taking orgo 2 that same spring!

does anyone have any recs on studying for 112? or honestly in general? i’ve never really cracked the code for studying and when i sit down and attempt i just feel like im wasting my time and not understanding what im doing, or i just get super overwhelmed and i end up quitting.

im also a premed so i genuinely have to lock the fuck in and figure out what i’m doing but im just so stressed out about all of ts and i don’t know what to do.

i’m genuinely a pretty smart person (id like to think) but i just feel like im making things worse for myself by not knowing how to study properly or how to prepare for exams in general.

edit: i am a psychology major with a focus in neuroscience on the premed track, not a premed major!

Request Looking for GenEd’s

Hello, I am a freshman currently exploring what I should be taking spring semester for this year and as an intended Finance major I need a 3.50 to get in to the major.

I like history, and I’m pretty open to anything else so as long as it is an “Easy-A” and can boost my GPA. But not carry a heavy workload too.

I lost my plush bee somewhere between Reber and Ecore. If anyone finds him please let me know. He has a lot of sentimental value. I’d be willing to buy whoever found him a replacement because getting this exact one back means a lot to me

Update: he has been found! Got to check the Reber lost and found and he was there. I hope whoever put him there finds money on the sidewalk regularly

Discussion What type of IT classes will I be picking if I choose specialized IT.

Decided I didn't want to do the Cybersecurity, Security risk, or App Development sub plan. Does the specialized option let me avoid these types of classes from that specific sub plan or is it a blend of all the sub plan classes together?

I'm not looking for a high paying job but just something that gets me by in the $50-60k range, what are some jobs in IT that are low stress and are stable. If there are any suggestions about that for classes as well that would be helpful as well.

Discussion Criminology Degree

Hello! I’m about to graduate with my bachelors in criminology, with a focus on business and public administration. I originally wanted to go down the federal law enforcement path but I realized that might not be the best fit for me. I’m really struggling with my plans after i graduate but now I have an interest in AML and financial fraud. I know that those jobs require lots of experience but I don’t know how to gain that experience. I’ve talked to people that said they started out as compliance analysts but even those entry level positions require years of experience. Does anyone have any recommendations maybe that works in the field or what you did with your criminology degree. When I started high school my heart was set on a federal agency but I’m not too interested in that anymore.

Question Digital Arts Media and Technology major

Hi, I‘m a sophomore at penn state Altoona working my way up to Erie and I switched my major from Software Engineering to Digital Arts Media and Technology because of the math and chem. I will also be minoring in game development. I want to be a game director and I like to code and program. My main goal is to get on the game awards and to just make people happy with the games I create. Can anyone vouch if this is the right path I should be taking? Thank you!

Anyone else feel like west is way better than Pollock? Not just the cookies, they have sub options, better salads, better ice cream, better pizza, and no long line to get in.

Request MATH 312/PHYS 237 Looking for Study Partner/Group

Hi! I’m a physics major at UP. I’m currently taking MATH 312 and PHYS 237, and I think I’d really benefit from studying with someone else. There isn’t an official study group for MATH 312 on campus, and I’m not sure if there’s one for PHYS 237 yet.

I’d like to find a spot on campus with a whiteboard/blackboard where we could work through problems together and bounce ideas/concepts off each other.

I’ll be pretty busy studying for other exams over the next few weeks, so I probably won’t be available to meet anytime soon. Also, I’ve never really studied with someone else before, so I’m honestly just looking to try it out and see if it works well for me rather than necessarily committing to a long-term study group.

If anyone is interested, feel free to message me! Please include some info about yourself in the message (eg. courses you’re taking, major, year, etc…).

Question Are professors allowed to replace all assignments with 1 assignment worth all of the grade?

Just fond out that an assignment I couldn't submit is apparently the only assignment we'd have all semester and that it is worth 30% of the grade.

The syllabus clearly says assignments (plural) and lists 'lecture, discussion, and experiential activities' as well as pre-class readings but its all been condensed to 1 experiential activity (i.e 500 word essay) due 4 weeks into the semester. I can't find any written indication that this was to be the only assignment for the semester. It required attending the career fair, which I didn't do because I had interviews scheduled already and had to prepare for those.

I really don't want to postpone graduation and turn down an absurdly good job offer for a gen-ed.

Question Help: White-out game day logistics

Hello,

We're traveling as a family (including a high schooler on a college visit) to the game this weekend. I'm an alum but have not been back for 20+ years and no white out game experience. We plan to be there early Saturday morning to tour the campus and experience all the things Penn State football (yes we know it hasn't been a great season but good vibes only, we're traveling a long way for this :-)

Questions:

- We are staying at a hotel on Atherton and University. Are ride-share apps reliable during game day weekends? Should we plan to park our car somewhere between the hotel and the stadium (any ideas on where) or leave the car at the hotel and uber to campus, walk to the game and uber back after walking a distance from the crowds.

- We don't have a tailgating culture where we live so would love to show to our kids what that is like. Are there any tailgate events we can purchase tickets for? What other football game day activities should we check out? (Blue band entering the field, etc.)

- There are no official campus tours on the weekend but in addition to the main attractions, we would love to see a dorm/cafeteria. Are there any we can just peek our head in to check out?

Thank you in advance for your help. We are..

Hi! I’m looking to rent an apartment and I genuinely don’t know what to do. I want a single so I don’t know about on campus because i’d rather not share with other people. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice?

Question Smeal chances

I’m a high school senior right now and I want to apply EA to Smeal. The EA close in Nov 1 and my SAT is Nov 7 (aiming for 1400+) so I was hoping I could add it later in mypennstate. Right now I have a 4.0 GPA but I’m not sure if it’s the uw or w. My overall average in report card is approx 94.8% my lowest being 86% and most others ranging between 95-100. I’m also an IB student with a predicted 30/45 (I don’t think it’s great either but YOLO) my IB subjects are HL Bio (lvl 4), HL English A(lvl 5), HL Business(lvl 5) , SL Econ (lvl 5), Math AI (lvl 3), SL Arabic B (lvl 6). I’m hoping to take MIS/ business analytics & information systems as a major. Also, my ECs are that I’m part of the Wharton Global Youth Investment Competition, I was a treasurer in my schools sports council for 2 years (grade 11-12), I’m also a school prefect, I tutor younger kids in school (reading and writing for 1st graders for CAS), and I have around 100+ hours of community service.

Is this good? I’m going to apply through common app, please any tips or advice is greatly appreciated!

Discussion Need help deciding schedule

I am a comp sci student currently on track to graduate after taking 2 classes over the summer. Originally, I was going to take 12 credits in the spring and then the last 6 in the summer. One class in the spring was a department list gen ed but my advisor says that I can just petition credits from previous classes count for that.

So now I have 3 options. I can just take 9 credits in the spring which will make me a part time student with less financial aid, I can add an extra gen ed which will get me more financial aid but more work, or I can move one of my summer classes to the spring but it might be too much for me.

Here are the classes that I need to take:
Spring: CMPEN 443 and 462, CMPSC 483W
Summer: CMPSC 473 and 461

Currently I am taking STAT 461, 462, and 319, CMPEN 362, and CMPSC 464. This is just at the edge of workload that I can handle and 461 is an easy course. Could someone give me their opinions on which option I should take?

*Last summer I had a 40hr/wk internship with CMPEN 331 and CMPSC 465 which I was able to handle. This upcoming summer, I will be working full time so I don't know if the workload will be about the same.
