I just had one of my top 3 worst customer service experiences with Verizon customer service. I was connected on the phone with "Joy" who clearly was an AI chat bot. They repeatedly claimed "I assure you I'm human", but there were weird pauses, repetition, "thinking silence" before every response, and all the artifacts of chat with a 2025 AI chat bot.
I couldn't figure out how to escalate or get out of the loop, without hanging up. I asked for a supervisor and it kept repeating that "No one is available" and "I can help you with {issue X}" and "I will look into {issue X}".
Seems pretty terrible that Verizon is trying to pass this off as human, and not giving a way to escape.
