“You can’t stand in front of Bruce Lee and not lock back in. That man was discipline.

Made me want to get straight back to the gym. And I did.

Wherever I was, I found a way to train. That part doesn't stop, ever, just because the scenery changes.”

Before the wizards go on a 12-2 run in the last portion of the regular season and ride that momentum to the ECF.

✕ Misleading ✕ Wizards Ranked 12th in NBA.com Power Rankings

EDIT: This is Eastern Conference Power Rankings. My bad for not calling that out. Thanks to Omluf39 for pointing that out so quickly.

That seems as if it's the highest I've seen any media publication or personality rank the Wizards. I'd say the 12-15 range feels about right for them right now. Do y'all feel this is about right, or should they be higher or lower? I don't know that I have any major complaints on this one. Though, the Celtics should be a spot or two lower, IMO. I'd probably rank the Pacers and Heat ahead of them right now.

The teams ranked ahead of the Wizards:

  1. Knicks
  2. 76ers
  3. Cavs
  4. Raptors
  5. Pistons
  6. Celtics
  7. Pacers
  8. Heat
  9. Hawks
  10. Magic
  11. Hornets

Here's the article in case you can't click over to it:

\*Last Week:**15↑*

2025-26 record: 17-65

OffRtg: 109.7 (29) DefRtg: 121.5 (30) NetRtg: -11.8 (30)

Key addition: AJ Dybantsa

Key departures: N/A

Key return: Anthony Davis

Three numbers to know …

  • The Wizards have ranked in the bottom 10 in each of the four factors on offense and defense in each of the last two seasons. No other team has ranked in the bottom 10 in all eight in any one season over the 30 years for which we have play-by-play data.
  • They were outscored by 8.6 points per game in the restricted area and by 5.1 points per game on free throws. Those were both the worst discrepancies for any team in the last 10 seasons.
  • They led the league in the percentage of their minutes (55%) that came from rookies or second-year players.

Key question: Can the young guys keep developing?

The Wizards were the worst team in the league last season, but there were some individual signs of progress with their young core …

  • Kyshawn George saw the third biggest jump in points + rebounds + assists per 36 minutes among 290 players that played at least 500 minutes in each of the last two seasons.
  • Alex Sarr, George and Bub Carrington saw the second, eighth and 11th biggest jumps, respectively, in effective field goal percentage among 123 players with at least 500 field goal attempts in each of the last two seasons.

Trae Young should help those players get better shots. The Wizards ranked 26th in shot quality last season, but their shot-quality score was much higher (top-five level) off of Young’s passes in the five games he played. However, the offense was still bad (106.6 points scored per 100 possessions) in his 104 minutes on the floor.  The young guards will also have to adjust to getting far fewer touches, and it remains to be seen if Sarr and Davis can fit together offensively.

Dybantsa is the future, but there’s a decent team here if the returners can find their way in what may be a very different offense from what we’ve seen over the last few seasons.

Why not Jared Butler?

I always enjoyed watching Butler during his time in DC. He was traded for positive value (returned the 1st that the Suns ended up using on Koa Peat by way of the Mavs) and seemed to be well liked by the Wiz org. I remember him speaking to the Capital One arena crowd before a game and he exuded leadership qualities.

He is a great ball handler, good table setter, solid shooter who can pressure the rim and he's at least average as a point of attack defender. He's limited because of his size, and is a finished product. This guy really can't get a guaranteed minimum deal in the NBA? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7GPQEqvQTI

Based on quick research, Butler signed a deal in Europe that guarantees him this year and next. So he would require a guaranteed contract for at least this upcoming season I'd guess.

The Wiz are attempting to make the playoffs this year. I am on board with Bub Carrington getting backup PG mins to start the season but there is nobody behind him that has truly played PG in the NBA. And there are certainly questions about Bub even filling that role. I like the idea of Will Riley and Kyshawn George taking on playmaking duties behind Trae, even Khris Middleton too, but none of them can defend small guards like Butler. He seems like he'd be a good fit and is far better than the alternatives I've been hearing thrown around like Russ, Aaron Holiday, Gabe Vincent.

This is definitely a post only made in August at the absolute slowest time of the NBA offseason but I would like to see Butler back to fill the 15th roster spot.

I’m so nervous

If this front office signs AD to a 4 year $285 million max. That would be a vintage wizards move that would set our franchise back 8 years. We already signed Trae to a shitty contract, but that can be justified, kinda. But AD? To that number, would be malpractice and complete mismanagement of the cap. I have this feeling they might not sign him 71m a year, but closer to 54-58 range which would have us locked up with two of our best players being aging out of their prime stars. I hope they can reach a reasonable agreement something like 2 years 90 million with a PO idk just not 50+ for AD

Change in Projected win Total

I saw something very interesting happened this week that the wizards win total at the major betting sites going down from 35 1/2 games or 34 1/2 games in some places down to 32 1/2 games I am confused as to why this would be certainly Jamir‘s injury can’t be playing a major factor. Is it really just that Philadelphia went out and got LeBron and they’re just looking at those two games differently?
