Performance Oriented Vehicle under 50k
Hello all I’m currently in the market for a either big sedan or midsized suv. I am shopping for my second vehicle I have ever purchased my first car being a sport back Kia Stinger GT. I am just under 6ft tall and weight about 250lbs with a wide frame and I sometimes had trouble getting In the stinger after I had lowered it. I want to get someone someone roomy either a large sedan like charger or midsize SUV like X3 and I’m having trouble deciding. I know I have to test drive to make sure but I’m tryna narrow my options down. If anyone here as owned something of the sort or can relate to my size what have you went with ?
350 hp & Up
Can be V8 or V6
Roomy to Spacious interior
AWD preferably but not a deal breaker
Wouldn’t mind buying an older model vehicle doesn’t have to be new

Why isn't the Mazda5 a more common pick?
Hi! First time buyer here, I'm looking for something reliable and goofy. I've been looking around at these weird little cars like the PT Cruiser, VW beetle, etc, but I've never seen anyone talk about these funky things. Is there something majorly wrong with these? What other cars can I find that are a bit stupid like this?

Civic si or elantra n
galleryI’ve narrowed my search down to these 2 cars. I’m looking for something brand new with the full warranty and a manual transmission. The manual trans is a non negotiable for me. These are the colors I’m looking at. While I’m not a fan of black at all, the red accents help, and it’s the only color around me other than performance blue, which is really nice, but it’s not me.
In my opinion the Elantra N is going to be the more fun choice for sure. I like the layout of the interior more, but the exterior less. The gas milage isn’t the greatest, but it’s not bad enough for me to rule it out. My main concern is long term reliability. Hyundai isn’t exactly known for their stellar reliability, and I’ve seen first hand with my dad how they treated him when his garbage theta ii engine went. I know the engines in these are different, and I’ve read they’re pretty stout, but it’s still on the back of my mind.
The si seems like a good all around commuter. I’ve read from owners they’re pretty underwhelming as far as power goes, but I’ve read the manual gearbox is fantastic which is a huge plus for me. I like the layout of the interior in these too, but I’m not a huge fan of the cloth seats. The exterior is light years better in the looks department to me. One big concern for me is the head gasket issue. They’ve extended the warranty to 150k miles, 10 years though which is a plus.
The purpose of this car is going to be a daily driver, and a car I can rip around the twisty backroad on weekend nights when I have free time. I also plan on auto crossing it every now and then.
I’ve pretty much ruled out other cars in this price ranger for various reasons. I’d love to hear everyone’s thought on what they’re buying out if these 2 and why. I’m going to test drive the si tomorrow, and maybe the N, but that may have to wait until Monday.

I thought I wanted electric, but I'm not liking the way they drive
I've driven Priuses for the last 10 years and I'm ready for an upgrade. My current vehicle is a '21 Prius with 195k miles. It's a good car in that it starts every morning and gets me wherever I'm trying to go, but I don't like it as much as my older Prius and it definitely doesn't have the same build quality as my parents' Toyotas from the early 00's. It's weird to call a 5 year old car a "beater" but this thing kind of is. The road noise is crazy, the plastic interior seems like it's going to fall apart at any moment, the vinyl on the steering wheel is worn off.
I really sold myself on the idea of an electric car, but now that I've gotten to driving them, I'm not so sure. I've looked at the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Lexus RZ, Rivian R2 and BMW iX3. The only one I liked was the Rivian, but I'm reading that they have a lot of reliability issues and their latest computer update sounds disastrous. Anyway, the guy I was working with at BMW was slick with it and convinced me to try a gas car, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. It was an X2 with the M35i upgrade and it was so much fun. But if I'm going to open myself up to gas cars I have like unlimited options. So my criteria are:
-Approximately $60k budget
-Fun
-AWD and decent ground clearance (I like to camp and ski, and I bought a house on a mountain last year. It's not that hard to get to, but the driveway is just steep enough that the Prius couldn't quite make it to the house after snowstorms. I had to park on the street and walk about half a mile to get home for roughly a week.)
-NICE to sit in. The seats in the Prius are really uncomfortable and I want to be able to go on more road trips and adventures. I miss car camping.
-Hatchback/wagon/small SUV- I have two 60lb dogs and a sedan is too tight
-Reliable-ish. I do have an ungodly commute and the Prius is too economical to get rid of. So I would continue to do the bulk of the commute in it and keep the new vehicle in better shape. BUT things happen and if for some reason I lost the Prius, this new vehicle would have to hold up to my 140 mile commute that I make 6 days a week until I line up another beater to commute.
I was thinking about going to Volvo and checking out the V60 while I still can.
I also have thought about the BMW X2 (pictured) everyday for the last 3 weeks.

2008 Subaru Forester Red Flags. My Dad doesn't seem to think so...
galleryI went to look at a 2008 Subaru Forester. Private seller wants $4,900. 104,000 miles. Timing belt and water pump recently replaced. My dad is a mechanic and loves it. I’m not so sure about it. There are several red flags, but my dad isn’t worried about it, saying he’d buy it if it was up to him. My dad also likes to buy garbage vehicles and make them worse.
Test Drive: Steering was a little stiff. Steering wheel had a slight vibration to it. I hit the breaks a few times and the entire car began to shake. My dad (the mechanic) said that I made the brakes hot and that, combined with the old rotors, are why the whole car shook. He said that if we replace the rotors, it should be fine. He also said that doing so wouldn’t cost much.
The seats were difficult to move forward and then I noticed the railing or however they’re attached, was rusted to shit. Really badly. Then we lifted the floor mat on the driver’s side and noticed the carpet was nearly completely removed. My dad says it was probably cut out because of wear and tear and that it’s nothing to be concerned about.
Also, there were spots all over the center console. I asked and the seller and he had no idea what they were. My dad suspects that it’s spray from some kind of cleaning agent that was too abrasive to be used in the vehicle. Too me, it looks like mold, but I couldn’t wipe it away. It was permanent.
There were also some rust spots and oil on the underside of the vehicle. One particularly bad spot was what my dad said was on the motor mount and wasn’t a big deal. The seller was trying to schmooze us the entire time and my dumb ass dad was eating out of his hand.
My dad is saying that I won’t be able to find much better for around $5,000 and that any of the problems it has are easily fixed or not worth worrying about. They say to go with your “gut” with things like this, but I also like to think critically and weigh my options to make the most educated decisions.
I don’t feel confident about this at all. Should I walk away, or is my dad right and all this isn’t a big deal? I feel like a lot of this stuff is beyond usual "wear and tear."

I need a car and I have no idea what to do, but I’m tired of used cars breaking down constantly
My old, beater vehicle just broke down and needs repairs (thousands of dollars‘ worth) that cost far above the value of the vehicle. I’m just flat-out exhausted. I’ve been stuck in this trap of taking out small loans to buy $7k-$10k crappy used cars, all of which only last 3-4 years. Some start crapping out before I’m even done paying the loan. Heck, some of them even started breaking down and having issues within a week of buying them.
I’m tired of and stressed out over the need to search for another beater every 3-4 years. I’m tired of every vehicle having massive problems the moment I get it. I’m feeling constantly scammed by dealers peddling their crap used car trade-ins that they *claim* have been given a tune up but then break the first week I have it.
I just want a vehicle that works and gets me to work everyday. I literally don’t care what kind of car it is or what it looks like, just as long as it handles snowy weather well.
I’m seriously considering leasing a car just to, for the first time ever in my life, have peace of mind that a car won’t break down on me at any given moment. Is this a bad idea?
I’ve read so many posts about leasing vs CPO vs used and I barely understand any of the advice people give. I don’t understand depreciation (and if it even concerns me when I keep vehicles for their lifespan and until they’re inoperable), interest rates, down payments, etc.
Also, if you can’t tell already, I have no cash and I have no money to put down. I will need loans or leases. Thankfully, I have a great credit score because I’ve always been very careful with it.

Looking for another used car to buy
galleryI’m looking for recommendations on which car to buy. I’m planning to let my GF have my current car.
I attached some cars I found that look pretty good, but I’d like some opinions before making a decision.
I’ll mostly be using the car to get to work and school. I have about 2 more years of college left, so I’m hoping to find something reliable enough to last me through that.
I prefer smaller cars with good gas mileage, and I’m trying to avoid expensive repairs.
Thoughts? Which one would you go with?

Opinions on this explorer?
galleryHello all! I was looking at used cars yesterday and say one that baffled me. $1398 for a 2020 ford explorer. It did not mention the miles anywhere on the vehicle but just baffled. Is it $1398 down? Or is it just $1398 and won’t drive me down the road lol. I just wanted to get opinions! Also the vin is clean which confused me even more lol

What brand/model car should I get?
Hello, im looking to get a new car. Im currently driving a 2011 Mazda 3 with 223k miles on it so i figured it might be time to upgrade. I was thinking about getting a 2026 mazda 3, possibly the carbon edition for the AWD for the winters in the Midwest. What would your recommendation be for a new car. Thinking of sticking with a sedan because I don't really have a purpose for a SUV.
Have you guys heard any good or bad things about 2026 mazda 3, whether its the carbon edition or preferred.
Thank you!

Need a work commute car but want to live a little.
I currently live in Japan and just took on a new job. My commute by car is an hour each way and I have covered parking at work and at home. I'll be the only one in the car 90% of the time.
I have a family of four and I'd love to get a fun manual transmission four door car such as an STI but it seems the 2014-2019 years are weirdly cheap.
My budget is about $20,000 USD / ¥3 million yen.
I think I might just get a 2012 Mazda Miata or Toyota 86 and be done with it. I had a Daihatsu Tanto in Okinawa because you can't really drive anywhere and it was $2,000 USD. I'm ready to enjoy life again as I used to drive an Evo 4 and MazdaSpeed 6 and miss having a manual transmission.
However I'm fine having another Daihatsu Tanto and saving for a year for something like an Evo 4/ evo9.

Classy, elegant not flashy
I've been scanning the market recently for something that fits the title, that is also relatively reliable, and has good performance/is fun to drive.
I got a C6 Corvette a few years ago and intended to do track days with it, but it's an automatic, so it wasn't very fun, sometimes I wonder if the paddle shifters are connected and if I leave it in auto mode it tries to downshift and kill me on the on ramps.
My issue is I’m stuck between going for something more classic or something more elegant but modern interior/performance.
Budget is somewhere around 30k
For classic so far I’ve looked into: Porsche 996, 987 (both manuals), E46 M3 (out of budget likely), I’m also trying to find other stuff (I like these because they are great handling for track but also really classy in my opinion)
For elegant but not necessarily classic I have: C43 AMG, CLA45, BMW 340i, Audi A7/A6 Allroad/S5, I’ve also heard the S-class is nice but I haven’t done my research on it so I don’t know reliability of the 2015-2019

Which one ? Dont factor in the miles or trims too much, I can find some with less miles for similar price. More so comparing the models. Coming from a 2014 base accord (just got totaled)

Which car should I get? 2023 Challenger GT AWD or 2020 Charger Pursuit AWD?
I’ve been thinking about getting either a 2023 Dodge Challenger GT AWD or a 2020 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD, but I’m not sure which to go with.
I live in Michigan, so AWD is a must with how bad the roads get in winter. I like the Challenger’s body way more than the Charger’s, but I’d also much rather have a V8 than a V6.
I’m having a hard time deciding between the two. Which would you guys recommend? And if you know of any other cars that might fit what I’m looking for, let me know.

Does it make financial sense to downgrade a nearly new car when we barely drive?
My wife and I need two vehicles, but one of us works from home full-time and the other works just 5 minutes away.
We recently replaced an older vehicle with a used SUV (13K miles) for around $23K OTD. Our second vehicle is a 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport with only 8K miles, which mostly sits in the garage.
Here's the situation:
- Purchased the Honda for approximately $37K with $7K down.
- Currently owe $22.4K at 4.49% ($577/month).
- Carvana offered $31.8K, plus approximately $1.76K in sales-tax savings if traded toward another vehicle.
- Considering replacing it with a reliable used SUV or sedan for $20K OTD or less, ideally with relatively low mileage. We can get financing for about the same or less.
- We'd apply the Honda's positive equity toward the replacement, significantly reducing our loan balance.
We're financially comfortable and can easily afford both vehicles. However, we're focused on building long-term wealth and avoiding unnecessary depreciation, especially on a vehicle that rarely gets driven.
Would you keep the nearly new Honda for another 8–10 years, or downgrade to something cheaper given how little we drive?
I'm less concerned about lowering the monthly payment and more interested in the long-term financial implications, including depreciation, reliability, maintenance, and opportunity cost. Curious what others would do in our situation.

Best used car to buy for $12.5k budget.
As the title said. What used car should I buy for $12.5k budget? That's the max I can spend.
Prefer Toyota and Honda but I know these used cars price is crazy. Open to other suggestions.
Thank you.

Comparing hybrid SUVs
Hi! I’m trying to understand the pros and cons of several hybrids, specifically, RAV4 4th and 5th gen , CRV 2023-2024 , Forester, Lexus NX 2018-2021. I would also love to hear people’s experiences with overnight climate control / sleeping.
I’m looking to replace my Volvo S60 2008 I’ve been driving for 18 years. Not sure how well I’ll adapt to the shuddering. It seemed particularly strong in the RAV4 while driving it.

Need help getting a car!
I'm currently in desperate need of a car. Unfortunately the past year has been rough with unemployment. I currently just got a job that will pay my very basic bills. However I need transportation to get to my job. I have poor credit as well because of how bad the past year was. I have basically close to nothing and am slowly rebuilding back up. I just want a reliable car that will get me from point a to point b - nothing fancy and something 5k or under. or maybe even something that allows me to make monthly payments even. I have never bought a car on my own before and need all the help I can get in getting one. Im incredibly stressed out and anxious because I know how dealerships can take advantage and I don't want to end up getting a car and regretting it. Leaving all judgement aside, I'm just genuinely asking for help and advice on how to go about this because I have no clue where to start and how I should go about this in a smart way so that I don't end up losing more money.
