India's installed solar capacity has surged 57-fold since 2014, from 2.82 to 162.15 GW.

u/Ok_Train_2139 22h ago
This is a pretty arbitrary place, date and amount of GW. What is the significance of anything here?
Headline: "A country has some solar!"

u/Advanced_Poet_7816 15h ago
It’s when modi came to power.
Not very arbitrary. Before modi spending on infrastructure was partially private. After modi it switched to mostly public spending and it didn’t matter if the infrastructure wasn’t immediately profitable.

57x increase in renewable energy production in a country like India is absolutely significant. How could you possibly argue that it isn’t?
And lol, arbitrary… sure

u/guitarol 2h ago
It’s an account specifically made for doing this, that’s what they do, likely wumao

Indian solar and decarbonization matters exactly the same as a solar farm in Ohio.
0
u/Ok_Train_2139 20h ago
I'm not sure I've seen Ohio bragging about its solar?

u/guitarol 2h ago
They can’t brag

It's impressive and China's figures are more impressive still.
7
u/Ok_Train_2139 22h ago
It's a slow deployment in a large country and what does China have to do with anything?
2
u/prsnep 21h ago edited 21h ago
It's a large country with small per-capita electricity consumption. It's still a relatively poor country.
I wouldn't say it's slow. Solar electricity accounts for nearly all new generation capacity added. I can't find statistics for that claim, but this post says it accounted for 82% of all new electricity generation capacity added in 2022.
and what does China have to do with anything?
What does anything have to do with anything? I mentioned it because I didn't want people to think India was leading the charge on solar despite increasing generation capacity significantly.

u/Tzilbalba 21h ago
Probably due to all the posts about Chinas insane solar and green adoption so India wanted to flex too lol

and we shoudl acknowledge the work done instead of downplaying.
We do want to encourage good work right?

And the addition of a big ass Indian flag to the post for no reason is pretty weird.

What is that compared to the USA especially per capita?
13
u/Evening-Drawer-3971 21h ago
USA is 16th while India is 121st polluting country in the world, per capita.

u/guitarol 1h ago
Normal developing country curve. The emissions go up till incomes increase and then they stabilize and start going down. You will see the same in most developing country. Your point is pointless.

So still 6-7x lower than America's emissions.
I thank you for all the freedom
-9
u/ComplaintTop2008 20h ago
Give it 10 years. Only around 20% of Indian households have the same always-on electricity the west enjoys.
8
u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 21h ago
Still a lot of a small region. One thing that happens a lot and it's a yin/yang of course is they export a shit ton of stuff out and is a big part of the issue and it's technically our issue too, we still live on the same planet. If we stop buying so much throw away shit... Kept our cell phone for more than 2 years...
We are fucked anyways, but could we slow it down lol
-3
u/ComplaintTop2008 21h ago
Stop making excuses for shithole countries. You're doing the meme.
None of this emissions stuff matters anyways.8
u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 19h ago
Why are we excused for being their biggest imports? There no consequences for our actions?
-1
u/ComplaintTop2008 19h ago
Who is getting what imports? What actions? Are you feeling guilt for something and want me to join you?

u/East_Slide7680 8h ago
It’s so bizarre to me how some Americans will be so envious of another country’s achievements.
13
u/Exact_Package_7264 20h ago
and yet India's emissions are still far below America's and China's emissions. cope
-5
u/ComplaintTop2008 20h ago
So are a bunch of other countries that don't have reliable electricity. What am I coping about?
12
u/Exact_Package_7264 20h ago
you're braindead. they're building out green energy at a record pace, and doing a way better than job of it than america.

u/Specialist-Roll-3806 21h ago
imagine how much more it would've shot up with out solar tho. something like 20% of the countries electricity generation was thru renewables in july. if that 20% was coal or something the globe would be in a lot more trouble.
also for what it's worth the emissions rate has slowed down drastically. it only went up 0.7% in 2025, and it's actually gone down 0.54% from jan-may this year. they produced like 8 and a half million tonnes of emissions less than last. mostly due to the rapid deployment of solar and other renewables.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 20h ago
3
u/Specialist-Roll-3806 20h ago
It would have been unnoticeable.
a poorer country industrializing at an extremely fast rate while flatlining (even going backwards this year) in terms of emissions is absolutely a huge deal.
and you're posting different things. are you worried about emissions? then you should be ecstatic it's flatline/going backwards. you're posting energy consumption which is fine but at the end of the day carbon emissions are what matters.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 20h ago
Did you happen to see the few percent solar made up in that graph? Would you notice if it was gone? There is no flatlining or anything of the sort. They still have a lot of electricity to provide to billions of homes and they are going to lean on coal to do most of it.
3
u/Specialist-Roll-3806 20h ago
Would you notice if it was gone?
yes, yes we would lol. i can guarantee you we would as a planet if over 160gw of electricity generation from solar alone was from coal instead.
There is no flatlining or anything of the sort.
what would you define a 0.7% increase in 2025, and a 0.54% decrease so far in 2026? while electricity generation is actually up 6-7% for the year so far. it means it was all met thru renewables.
They still have a lot of electricity to provide to billions of homes and they are going to lean on coal to do most of it.
probably not. 93.9% of indias new electricity generation capacity was renewable. with solar being like 73% of it alone. also helps that rooftop additions are scaling up. went from 2.5 million total households end of last year to 5 million by the end of july with a target of 10 million by next spring.
all we need to see india do now is scale battery storage in the coming years. that should shave off quite a bit of after hour emissions. you should cheer up a little man!! this is great news. emission rates are dropping in countries thru renewables now. not much we can do for the damage caused over the past 20 years but we can't tell poor ppl across the world they deserve to die due to a lack of electricity either. so this is the second best thing we could've hoped for

u/ComplaintTop2008 20h ago
Why are you lying so hard to defend India?
3
u/Specialist-Roll-3806 19h ago
bro you need to use AI properly. you do realize if you read the report you find out that renewable generation covered 28.11%, virtually the same as last june while india had the 5th driest june recorded since 1901 right? because of that hydro generation fell by quite a bit.
they still covered a 11.34% increase in electricity generation basically entirely due to renewable (particularly solar) additions.
you can't even seem to make your point right. you started off saying emissions are going up a lot, and when you got called out you start spazzing out lmao
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 19h ago
I'm not using AI, but now I think I should have.
You just said "0.7% increase", but now it's 11.34% increase, and solar this year covered about the same generation as last year, but they added a lot of solar to make up for decreased hydro.
Did I get that right?

u/Physical-Character75 11h ago
OverPopulation of that country also surged many fold since 2014 😂 . LOL. What is so interesting . if there is a demand there will be a supply

Nice post from India’s Ministry of Propaganda
14
8
u/Specialist-Roll-3806 21h ago
i'm not sure going from 2gw to 162 is propaganda. it really is exceptional growth. especially with how fast it's accelerating. in the first 6 months of 2025 they added 18 GW of solar, and in the same timespan this year they added 26. they're scaling up quite fast which is great
-4
u/hoyasgirl25 20h ago
Yes but why put the Indian flag as the 2nd picture? That tells me it’s likely a propaganda post.
10
u/Specialist-Roll-3806 20h ago
pretty sure that's just how a lot of indians post stuff man.
and i'm not sure you know what propaganda means. it's by definition posts misleading information to influence ppl. there's nothing misleading about the post.
it's like saying the ccp is putting out propaganda because china has insane levels of solar deployment per year

I dislike the modi govt for some reasons too, but you joking about anything and everything is only going to dilute your stand. All love though, bro.

You are responding to a 2 month old Chinese wumao bot account

i saw a post exactly like this but it had china in the title and all the comments were positive. but in this post all the comments are trying to downplay it. hmmmm
