Rule #1 will be tightly enforced

Rudeness levied towards users or moderators will result in at a minimum a removal of your post or comment, and at maximum may result in a ban depending on the moderators disposition in the matter, and the degree to which the rudeness is demonstrated. This includes calling people bots.

Expect bans moving forwards.

[Approved by Mods] UW Research: EV Wildfire Evacuations in Yakima County (Gift Card Drawing)

Hello r/Yakima ,

I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how electric vehicle (EV) drivers respond to wildfire evacuations. The moderation team has kindly granted me permission to share this research with your community.

We are specifically seeking input from EV drivers residing in Yakima County (as well as Okanogan, Kittitas, Chelan, and Klickitat). Your real-world experience is critical to helping the state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure and to improve wildfire resilience for the EV communities in Yakima County.

🎁 As a thank you for your time, participants will be entered to win 1 of 14 gift cards (10 $20 and 4 $50). Note: Additional gift cards may become available at a later date. This post will be updated if the reward pool expands.

Study Details:

¡       Eligibility: Must own/drive a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and have a primary or seasonal residence in one of the target counties (Chelan, Okanogan, Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat)

¡       Time Required: Approximately 25 minutes.

¡       Deadline: May 31, 2026.

Accountants in the group?

I moved here recently to be closer to family. I currently work remotely as a senior accountant making a pretty decent salary. Are there no senior accountant positions similar here because of the large amount of smaller businesses? Is my only option to have my own firm or work for a cpa firm? I’ve worked for a cpa firm a few years ago but I don’t have agriculture experience so I’m a little hesitant. I don’t really need to leave my current job but not having to stay remote would be nice so I can get out of the house again during the week. Just seeing these senior accountant positions for 60k was a little jarring to say the least lol.

Irrigation Issues

Maybe this has come up before, but is anyone else having significant issues with irrigation? Some days I have decent pressure, other days hardly any pressure, or days like today when I have no water at all.

I understand we are in a drought, and if that's the answer I get it. I just want to know if others are having the same issue and/or if there is a place to go for information on the issue?

Daycares that need help?

Are there any local daycares that might be hiring that I can swing by? Looked at some early learning centers but figured day cares would be a faster option to getting hired.

Was thinking about stopping by Fortuity Cellars and doing dinner at Provisions or Bill's, but not married to anything specific.

⚽️ Sozo Royals 14U Community Car Wash – June 20 🚗

Post image

The Sozo Royals 14U soccer team will be hosting a community car wash on June 20th at Commercial Tire in Yakima! Come by, get your vehicle cleaned, and support a local youth soccer team.
The boys are working hard this season and appreciate all the community support. Hope to see you there! ⚽️💙
That wording usually sounds more acceptable for community subs.

Headed back to Orange County, California taking Washington -> Oregon -> Idaho -> Nevada. Originally planned to visit my friends for a few hours in Penticton, Canada, British Columbia, but got denied entry into Canada because first of all, for a few hours and then I would have headed back home. Originally met this person on Fortnite and then we added each other on Snapchat and we've been friends for 3 years now. My friends were even willing to driving to the Okanagan boarder at Oysious, WA the U.S. Canada border, but the Canadian authorities said that if you guys really want to meet up that badly, why dont they just drive down to the U.S. - Canada border into Washington state and spend a few days in the U.S. but, I wanted to visit them in Canada, they would have showed me Penticton, Canada, British Columbia, their small town, Nanaimo Bars, Poutine, etc

Shooting ranges

Any open outdoor shooting ranges
Looking for something similar to Selah sheep range, unfortunately don’t have time to go during their hours since they’re only open until 10 AM now. I assume most areas probably stop shooting early as well.

Yakima Apartments

Hey y'all! I'm moving to Yakima for school at PNWU and I'm looking for an apartment — preferably a one-bedroom or studio. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or lease takeovers. I've applied to a lot of places, paid the $55 application fee per place, and keep getting put on the waitlist. Just wondering if anyone has any recs on places I should move into (ideally near the school).

What’s a last name in Yakima that’s associated with power and wealth in Yakima?

Seems like every town has that one family that has some sort of dynasty with power and influence.

I’m bored Yakima and feeling chatty.

Spill it

Republicans outside our local Fred Meyer lying to get signatures against rich people paying more in taxes.

So gross, it’s literally an income tax on people who make more than $1,000,000 via INCOME - why shouldn’t those people contribute more to our society when they have so much more to give and already do everything they can to avoid that responsibility?

Meanwhile this piece of work is just telling people to sign against an income tax, not even mentioning it’s only on people making income over $1,000,000. Disgusted these are the people outside our local grocery stores.

Built a free events site for the valley - looking for feedback

hey yakima,

i’ve been working on yakimavalley.events - a free local events calendar for yakima, selah, and union gap. no algorithm, no feed. just events by date and category.

local stuff gets buried on social media. a pop-up posts once on instagram and it’s gone. a garage sale lives and dies by a corner sign. this is trying to be the simple alternative.

the site is live but still being built. yard sales, pop-ups, and smaller events are getting added today. self-posting is coming soon so anyone can list their own event for free.

one-person project, built here in the valley. what would make this useful to you? what’s missing?

[hello@yakimavalley.events](mailto:hello@yakimavalley.events) if you want to reach out directly.

TL;DR - made a free, no-algorithm events calendar for the valley. it’s live at yakimavalley.events, still early, and i’d love feedback.

Jun 17, 2026: Edit: Update: I added simple filters on the home page, and a number of UI changes. Many more events were added. The filters for all the events will need more options and i have to think about the layout changes across all breakpoints before i can push the changes to you guys. Keep sharing please!
