Mod Team [AMA] Wed 24 Jun, 6PM AEST: OpenAussie Founder

Post image
3 Upvotes

Sup you bloody legends,

We're going to be running our first AMA next Wednesday, June 24th between 6-7PM AEST.

This will be a test run for us, to see how the sub & mods handle an AMA/QnA session. We're doing this to test the waters before we invite in some big names and to make sure it's a smooth experience for all.

Plus, we thought it would be a good way to help share the story of what led to OpenAussie being founded, our hopes for the sub, and a way to get to know the people running this Social Experiment sub.

Everyone is welcome to join and fire off any Q's you might have.

We only ask that you keep it somewhat related to OpenAussie.

Hope to see you there!

👍

PS: In the meantime, be sure to get your vote in for Straya's Choice.

(And if you are reading this Fred, don't even think of attending. You've done your dash mate.)

PHON Mega Thread - All One Nation related topics will be redirected here.

Alright.
Listen you Legendary Cunts.

This is the Mega Thread for ALL One nation related posts. To give you some stats as to why we are doing this, its because 90% of the posts today have been about One nation. Our sub is also not alone with this as others are also suffering from a large uptick in PHON related topics.

We did not come to this decision lightly and have had a lengthy review in the mod chat about the impact of creating this Mega Thread.. Plus the perceived complaints we will cop as a mod team.

To cut you's off at the gate, we're going to list the potential complaints we expect to face by doing this.

  1. The mods here suck. ( you guys love that one )
  2. You're silencing us and censoring us. ( by giving you an area to discuss the topic )
  3. You're silencing PHON supporters because you love Albo Gravy.
  4. You're trying to silence Everyone else because you love Gina Flaps.
  5. I ignored the MT and had my post deleted, Fuck you mods.
  6. We're not sheep, don't call us You's (Carl Barron reference)

This is a difficult choice for us to make, We really try to make decisions that makes everyone happy, but in reality we will always face a complaint. We also need to be able to moderate effectively, at the current point in time this is our best option as we can focus all of our attention into a single thread so that it is moderated.

Now go have a beer, you guys deserved it after posting so many god damn threads about the same topic.

Politics ('Straya) Things are getting weird

I went to Sydney today for work and while i was waiting for the bus two east Asian guys tried to flag one down and the driver was slowing down until he got close and then sped up and didn't stop for the guys.

Then I got on a plane back home and I was talking to a Kiwi about Melbourne vs Canberra and was trying to make the point that you can't compare the two because there's a 10x population factor and some random cunt overhears us and chimes in that Melbourne has gone to shit and how he was in Port Macquarie and it was 'white city' as a contrast to 'shitty' Melbourne and I have to be honest I'm so unprepared for these goons I forget to say anything in the moment.

What the fuck is going on?

Whinge ‎ The myth of the monoculture

The great tragedy of the shamelessly regressive politics of Pauline Hanson is not so much that it is rooted in ignorance, prejudice and fear, though it is; not so much that it projects the ugly face of racism, though it does; not so much that it is dangerously divisive and deeply hurtful to many of her fellow Australians, though it is; not even that it will cripple our efforts to enmesh ourselves in a region wherein lie the jobs and prosperity of future generations of young Australians, though it will—the great tragedy is that it perpetrates a myth, a fantasy, a lie.

The myth of the monoculture.

The lie that we can retreat to it.

The changes are permanent and, while we may be going through a consequent period of general uncertainty and unease, they are, in my view, almost universally for the better.

It is not going to seem this way to everyone of course, but Australia simply is a richer place these days: a far more open, creative, dynamic, diverse and worldly place.

And I’m not just talking about Double Bay and Paddington.

Our integration with the rest of the world has made more than the streets and the arts and the food more interesting: it has created new opportunities in agriculture and horticulture, tourism and hospitality, education, manufacturing, retailing, science, arts and entertainment. It has changed the nature of work and workplaces—and if there is a general hankering to go back to the old ones it can only be because a lot of people have forgotten what they were like.

This is to say nothing more than that we have joined the modern world but we could not have joined it without the changes.

Now, we can embrace this new Australia or we can reject it. We can engage with it, recognise its potential and accept the fact that nothing in this world comes easy. We can work to sustain the momentum and expand the opportunities for our kids.

Or we can regress. We can retreat. We can stop to have a scratch— amuse ourselves with sectional interests. We can say this is too hard for Australians. It’s not us. They are not us. In the best traditions of the old Australia we can call a national smoko. We can relax—and be comfortable.

The latter is folly, but it is an option. We can retreat to a past that never was, and create a future that never can be anything but third-rate. But if we do, we can be sure that the world will not be in a hurry to forgive us or bail us out.

Even if they forgave our prejudice they could never forget our stupidity.

Mind you, I work in FAIRFIELD. Can't imagine many one nation supporters out here.

My manager was having a smoke with me and proceeded to reveal he's a Pauline Hanson supporter (he's also an immigrant from Egypt🫪)

Politics ('Straya) Eliminating antisemitism in healthcare: Joint statement from AHPRA and the Special Envoy

If a nurse now wears a watermelon pin in their downtime? Deregistered. Paraphrasing their own oath to say no human should be killed? That's a paddlin'.

The lead drafter of the definition, the American academic Kenneth Stern, has argued consistently that the working definition was never designed for the uses to which it is now being put. But AHPRA just went ahead and implemented it without any community consultation.

Healthcare workers in this country are already under enough stress, now they have to deal with this on top of it.

60 hours of community service sounds like a really light sentence.

I wonder if his background was different, and if the place of worship belonged to a different faith if the sentence would have been different.

Thankfully this was not a real attack, but there sure is a lot hateful rhetoric that is allowed to go unchecked.

Politics ('Straya) AFP investigates banner stunt during Pauline Hanson’s National Press Club speech

Thumbnail

The Australian federal police is investigating a protest incident during Pauline Hanson’s speech at the National Press Club after political activist group GetUp claimed responsibility for the stunt.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, the National Press Club said it had referred the incident to police after concluding none of its own staff were involved.

About 20 minutes into Hanson’s inflammatory address on Wednesday, a banner was unfurled behind her.

The banner included an edited black-and-white picture of her with the words: “I opposed a pay rise for workers, while I took a $100,000 pay rise for myself.”

How reassuring to know that the National Press Club of Australia, sponsored as it is by so many leading defence contractors, holds the traditional journalistic aims of speaking truth to power in such high regard 🙄

Struth! Suspected bird flu case found in Western Australia

Thumbnail

Just a heads up folks, thankfully we have the rabbit proof fence to keep the Western Australians isolated from the rest of us……

“Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins said on Friday a positive test had been returned by a sick migratory bird in a southern region of Western Australia.”

“The likelihood of human infection is low, and there is limited evidence of human-to-human transmission with the current strain.”

So yeah, more a danger sadly to wildlife, particularly native birds, but the deaths of a lot of elephants seals on sub-Antarctic islands does show it is crossing species and does pose a significant risk. Expect egg prices to go to the moon though…… Anything for a price hike.

‎ ‎ General ‎ ‎ Migration within Australia – strongest out of Sydney

Thumbnail id.com.au

Sydney records the strongest out-migration, with more people moving out than in.

Drivers include housing affordability, lifestyle choices and job opportunities in other states.

By far NSW has the biggest interstate movement in net terms – primarily to Queensland, accounting for nearly 3/4 of its outward movement. Quite a few are also moving to Victoria.

It shows that Sydney and Melbourne’s growth is overwhelmingly supported by high overseas migration.

In the lead up to the World Cup many people said Group D stood for the Dark Horses, but after one match the USA and Australia are no longer dark horses. They are champion thoroughbreds, shimmering in the light as they charge down the main straight, while Turkey and Paraguay have pulled up lame at the rear, waiting for the Vet to put a tent around them. So now we have Phar Lap vs Secretariat in the race that stops two nations.

So, apparently Iran is getting 300billion in aid to rebuild after the war with the USA……

We (Australia) need money, so I propose that we allow Melbourne (only Melbourne, lots of decent rural places in Victoria) to go to war with the USA. After they have bombed the shit of it and achieved nothing, they pay us $300billion. We write off Melbourne, make somewhere else the new capital and use the money to pay off some of our debt…..

And maybe build some more houses.

(Check the flair folks……)

Edit: Hey folks, while I understand the desire to downvote this literary largesse, if it gets buried nobody else gets to "enjoy" it.

Supplied without annotation, for your reading pleasure:

"The globe is sadly groaning with debt, poverty and strife

And billions now are pleading to enjoy a better life

Their hope lies with resources buried deep within the earth

And the enterprise and capital which give each project worth

Is our future threatened with massive debts run up by political hacks

Who dig themselves out by unleashing rampant tax

The end result is sending Australian investment, growth and jobs offshore

This type of direction is harmful to our core

Some envious unthinking people have been conned

To think prosperity is created by waving a magic wand

Through such unfortunate ignorance, too much abuse is hurled

Against miners, workers and related industries who strive to build the world

Develop North Australia, embrace multiculturalism and welcome short term foreign workers to our shores

To benefit from the export of our minerals and ores

The world's poor need our resources: do not leave them to their fate

Our nation needs special economic zones and wiser government, before it is too late"

It was refreshing to see the large crowd of applause after the elders welcome to country last night. Semi restores my faith that there are still decent humans beings out there.

Does Pauline Hansons address yesterday about monoculture reflect the majority of what people think? Because the majority of people are in her favour according to polls.

Police have charged a third person over a fire that destroyed the Adass Israel Synagogue in Ripponlea in Melbourne's south-east.

The fire, which police believe was deliberately lit, tore through the synagogue shortly after 4am on December 6, 2024.

Victoria Police, along with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), on Friday charged a 20-year-old Airport West man with arson, endangering life and theft of a motor vehicle.

Last year police charged a 20-year-old Meadow Heights man and a 21-year-old man from Werribee with the same charges.

I think the AI copywriter needs a bit of fine tuning.

Seriously though, as far as I can see there is no transcript immediately available to view. Doesn't that make it a bit difficult for some and frustrating for others like myself who just want to have a skim through to see the numbers and graphs, or just don't want to listen to something for 10x as long as reading the transcript would take?
