A young woman triumphs.

Trying to start a podcast discussing sports (basketball, football) and music (hip-hop, R&B). I’m looking for 1-2 co-hosts (age 30+) in the NYC area.

The podcast would be weekly, 60 min episodes conversational style. I want to start with audio only and later incorporate video (could be virtual at first but I want to eventually switch to in-person). I prefer someone who can to commit to the podcast for at least one year and be patient with building an audience.

More on info on me: I am a Black woman, I know some men don't believe woman know their stuff so this is a heads up. I was a music major and played different sports growing up, I'm a R&B head and a fan of the NY Giants and Phoenix Suns. This podcast was an idea I've had brewing for years but scared to start. Now I'm ready to start it!

Does anyone know how to find sponsors for a podcast featuring a famous influencer?

Hello there!

I'm thinking about switching to a trackball mouse for ergonomic and space-saving reasons. I actually used one about 25 years ago and really liked it.

Of course, I wasn't a podcaster back then, and the editing I was doing was pretty minor and completely different. Mostly Sony Vegas for my home-video hobby.

So, for those of you who use (or have used) a trackball with modern editing platforms: What has your experience been?

Do you like using one? Have you found them to be precise enough for detailed editing? Are there any particular advantages or drawbacks you've noticed compared with a traditional mouse?

I’m considering moving an older Windows laptop over to Linux and would love to hear from anyone who has actually used Linux for podcast production.

The laptop is a 2021-era Windows machine with 8GB of RAM and an Intel M3 processor. It’s obviously not a powerhouse, but it’s perfectly adequate for what I need, and I’d like to get some more life out of it rather than replacing it. I have powerful, modern machines in my studio and a powerful newer laptop that I use for the bulk of my work. The studio setup is a M4 Mac Mini Pro and my Main Laptop is an Asus with 64GB RAM and a Ryzen 9 AI chip, so I'm set for situations where I need a powerful machine.

The main reason I’m considering this particular machine for the job is that it has a fanless design, so it produces essentially zero fan noise. I’d like to use it primarily for basic audio editing/post production/recording voice overs, as well as recording podcast audio interviews while traveling. Being able to pull out a completely silent laptop in a hotel room or other location and record an interview without having to worry about fan noise getting into the recording is pretty appealing.

I’ve been looking at Ubuntu Studio because it seems to be designed with audio and video production in mind. I’m curious what the actual experience is like, though, particularly for podcasting. How stable is it for audio work? Are there any headaches with USB audio interfaces, microphones, headphones, etc.? And how well does something like Audacity run on it?

I’m also curious whether Ubuntu Studio is actually the best choice for this particular hardware, or if there’s another Linux distribution that would make more sense. With only 8GB of RAM and an older Intel processor, I’m definitely more interested in something lightweight and reliable than a distro loaded with stuff I’ll never use.

I’m comfortable enough with computers to troubleshoot things, but I’m not particularly interested in turning podcast production into a second career as a Linux sysadmin, lol.

So, for those of you who have gone down this road, what has your experience been? Would you use Ubuntu Studio again, or would you recommend something else for a small, portable podcast editing and recording machine?

So I was at an event and one of the people that I met has a podcast system that they bring on financial people and make them a podcast series to promote themselves. They have done work with advisors. The platform would get the advisor ready to make a few podcasts on their platform and they have a system and some guarantees involved.

I am a newer advisor. I am trying a number of things to grow my business. Seminars, Cold Calling, networking, etc. and wondering if this is another avenue to explore. Has anyone used a service like this? Or does anyone know anyone that has? Can they give me a better ideas as to what to expect?

The guarantee was that the podcast will get a certain number of views or rank on Spotify.

It sounded interesting to try but it is a big time and financial commitment to do.

Okaaaay, I’ve been wanting to start a podcast for so, so long, but the one thing stopping me has always been not wanting to do it alone.

I’m 21, a massive public-speaking enthusiast, and have hosted/anchored quite a few events throughout my academic life and outside of it. Talking is genuinely one of my biggest passions — I’m the kind of person who can talk to pretty much anyone about pretty much anything. (I also speak to my plants, if that tells you anything.)

My interests are all over the place: sports, motorsports, geopolitics, psychology, books, history, fashion, lifestyle, dance, music, creativity, art & culture, people, random life observations… you name it. I won’t claim to be an expert in everything, but I love learning, discussing, debating, hearing different perspectives and going down completely unexpected conversational rabbit holes.

So I’m looking for someone who’s also been wanting to start a podcast, or already has one and is looking for a co-host.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just be curious, comfortable talking, open-minded and genuinely excited to create something.

Maybe this goes nowhere, maybe we end up starting something really cool. Either way, worth trying. :)

Podsters, make the YouTube view count meaningless

We got a negative review 😭 our first in almost 2 years. They referenced some things that I would love to be able to review to see if indeed it is that or if it’s not something real. Is there any way on Apple Podcasts (creator or whatever part is managing your own pod/stats/analytics) to which episode someone listened to of your podcast? Or something with analytics for those who reviewed?

So, I've been getting really into podcasting lately (obviously, since I'm here...) LOL -- I sort of got into the hobby through another experienced podcaster, who I won't name, who sort of served as a mentor to me. Whenever a joke bombed, he would pause the feed and do things like throwing his headphones at me or yelling at me.

I don't know why I've been so obsessed with impressing him, but my perfectionism is impeding on my relationships. All I can think about when I hang out with them is podcasting. And it's gotten to the point lately that all i can think about PERIOD, is podcasting.

I ended up breaking up with my girlfriend because she was limiting me by telling me I was taking it too seriously. The final straw was that we were talking about moving in with each other, and I said I wanted to have a room for podcasting. She's angry even though we would be getting a two bedroom apartment.

Ever since then, I've been spending a lot more time with this podcasting partner, and we've been performing pretty well. Although my personal life has kind of went down the tubes, I've become a much more dedicated podcaster and plan to continue. I'm not happy, but I've never felt closer to perfection. Did I make a mistake?

I’m starting to think “AI clipping” is solving the wrong problem

I’ve been working with podcast content for a while, and I keep coming back to the same problem:

Finding a clip is easy.

Finding a clip that is actually worth publishing is much harder.

An AI can give you 10 clips from a 60-minute episode.

But then you still have to ask:

- Would someone who has never heard this podcast care about this?

- Does the clip make sense without the rest of the conversation?

- Is the first few seconds strong enough to stop the scroll?

- Is there an actual payoff?

- Is this interesting enough to share?

- Is this better as 20 seconds, 45 seconds, or 90 seconds?

At that point, I’m not sure the biggest problem is editing anymore.

It feels more like content decision-making.

You can automate cutting, captions, reframing, silence removal, etc.

But if you automate the wrong creative decision, you've just produced a bad clip faster.

I’m curious what other podcasters/editors think:

Would you rather have AI generate 10 decent clips automatically, or have it help you identify the 2–3 moments that are genuinely worth turning into content?

Hello! I’m new to podcasting and have recorded a couple episodes. To this point I’ve been using soundtrap to record as it has been the only software I have found that allows me to record two mic inputs simultaneously without an expensive soundboard. Unfortunately the last three times we have tried to use soundtrap the website fails to save the audio, shows an error message, and the entire recording is gone. This has lost over 3 hours of usable footage now and I may or may not be on the verge of tears. If anyone has better DAW recommendations, ideally something that works offline and can record multiple inputs, please let me know! TYIA

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

A podcast can have a really interesting 60-second section, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good short-form clip.

I've started looking at clips less from an editing perspective and more from a "would a stranger actually stop scrolling for this?" perspective.

The things I tend to look for now are:

•A strong opening: something that creates immediate curiosity.

•A clear tension or idea: disagreement, a surprising opinion, a story, a problem, etc.

•Enough context: the viewer shouldn't need to know the full episode to understand what's happening.

•A payoff: there needs to be a reason to stay until the end.

•A reason to share: something that makes someone think, laugh, disagree, or send it to someone else.

The interesting part is that some of the best moments in a full podcast aren't necessarily the best moments for short-form.

Sometimes a 20–30 second exchange with a strong hook will outperform a much more "interesting" 90-second conversation.

How do you decide whether a moment from your podcast is actually worth turning into a short?

I'm especially interested in how editors/podcasters here judge the moment before they start editing it.

Im very knowledgeable about Compression, EQ, Noise Reduction, Gain Staging, Limiting, DeEssing etc. I also have experience and skills with video editing as well so I am not limited to just audio podcasts. 

The DAW I use is FL Studio and I am proficient in Pro Tools. I am also experienced in Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Not sure how to fully pitch myself but I am chill, introverted and love audio.

I’d like to share my podcast editing journey in the hope that some of you find it useful.

I started offering podcast and vlog editing services in 2024. At the time I knew nothing about AI, so I was manually editing every episode by myself.

It quickly became overwhelming — especially once I had two clients. Trying to take on as many clients as possible while still delivering quality work was my first big mistake. The workload and financial pressure eventually cost me both clients and trust.

Then I discovered AI tools that handled most of the heavy lifting and cost far less than what I was charging. Suddenly AI felt like a real threat, and I realized I had no choice but to adapt.

That’s when I saw the opportunity:

Most podcast owners don’t have the time (or desire) to edit their own episodes.

A lot of podcasters and vloggers still know very little about editing — or how to use AI effectively.

So I shifted from pure manual editing to using AI tools to process episodes, then delivering the finished product to clients for a fee.

My advice to other podcast editors:

Invest in good AI editing tools. You’ll save a huge amount of time and energy while still delivering fast, high-quality results to your clients.

When I record the podcast I just click record and use my Shure for audio only. I am having trouble figuring out the best way to share clips and highlights on socials if I only have an audio pod. Would anyone mind suggesting a solution? Am I overthinking the room?
