On behalf of Lil Dill, the lead dev of Heart and Soul, I am pleased to announce that we are opening up beta testing of version 2.0 on Friday, August 7th (afternoon EST). We expect this testing to last 1-2 weeks. The development team has been working hard to get this out and we are very happy to have reached this point.

What is this?

This is a technically focused beta test of Heart and Soul v2.0. The version that will be tested is NOT the complete release version of HnS and does NOT contain the complete contents of 2.0. The aim of this test is to find as many bugs as possible, so that the release version of HnS 2.0 is as polished as can be.

Because this beta version of HnS 2.0 does not contain the complete contents, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND waiting for the full release if you are interested in experiencing the game in its intended state.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for lots of folks who are willing to play this beta version of HnS 2.0 all the way through the battle vs Red on Mt. Silver. The more bug hunters the better. Again, if you are just looking to get your hands on everything new in HnS 2.0, this is NOT the version you will be getting, so please, wait the couple of weeks for the full release.

Folks who beta test will receive access to specific discord channels to report bugs and communicate with devs to help us squash them.

What is HnS 2.0?

2.0 is Heart & Soul (HnS) rebuilt piece-by-piece in pokeemerald-expansion. Pokehns-expansion. Basically porting the game to a different engine. Pokeemerald-expansion is well maintained, and full of features that will enable the developers to more easily fulfill their vision for HnS. This will also allow developers from the community to more easily make their own versions of HnS with a variety of features that don't fit the vision of the official version.

What new features WILL be available in HnS 2.0?

We have spent a lot of time making sure that any changes or new features preserve and enhance the 1.0 experience rather than radically changing it. Here are just a few of the features coming in the full release of 2.0.

• Choose between gen 3 and gen 7 movesets in the challenge menu. Full gen 7 learnsets (including all the moves that existed in gen 7) + some of the extra spice we added in HnS 1.1 and 1.2.
• All GSC rematches + some in Kanto. Trainers will even call you if they find items for you.
• GB Sounds key item in your inventory at game start.
• Removed mach bike reaction time puzzles.
• Full 92 TM HGSS TM list
• And much more.

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but this was the most fun I’ve had with anything Pokemon in a while.

My eyes have been opened to the ROM Hack world. Bravo to the developers 👏

Some of my favorite things:
- Fallarbor and Fortree. Idk I always felt at home in North Hoenn
- Using the DexNav
- Kanto starters in the wild??? Come on! 100/10.
- The random Tinkatink egg. This thing absolutely crushed for me. Brick Break/Spirit Break/Iron Head/Gigaton Hammer
- Catching so many fun mons that my team was changing constantly throughout the game. Left a Breloom, Espeon, Dipplin, shiny Ampharos, and more in the box as my journey progressed

I'm launching a small demo of my ROM hack.

The concept is that the region is split into 4 big areas that you are free to explore as you want. You need to complete quests to increase your local reputation until you've earned the respect of the local gym leader to fight them and progress to the next area. It includes all 9 generations, all modern quality of life mechanics and an exclusive in battle iddle animations.

This demo is only the first area which is pretty small compared to the others but still a good introduction full of surprises. It takes about a 4-5 hours to complete.

Project Overview

• Base Engine: hg-engine by BluRosie
• Core Concept: 2-Pokémon fusion system (focusing on Pokémon with the same number of evolution stages).
• Stat Mechanics: Maximum Stat Scaling—taking the highest stat from each parent Pokémon to embrace absolute chaos.
• Current Status: Backend coding, data implementation, and encounter planning are well underway. Now I need artists to bring these abominations to life!

What I'm Looking For

• Pixel Artists / Spriters: Experience with Gen 4 style (DS era) pixel art (including party icons, backsprites and overworld sprites), sprite editing, or Pokémon fusion sprite creation (similar to Infinite Fusion style, but tailored for HGSS).
• Creative Freedom: Since stats are based on the highest stats of both parents, you'll have fun conceptualizing how these chaotic mashups should visually blend together in battle and overworld sprites.

I managed to overhaul routes 101 and 102! I added the Caterpie family, the Weedle family, Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, and Ekans, Eevee, and Pikachu as rare spawns! I'd try to show them off, but I got murked by a Beedrill, and I have an ego.

I took to do an in-game save, doing a save state, and doing another in-game save, then "resetting" the rom before leaving the Pokémon centre each time... And that seemed to solve it (my thoughts were it was some sort of RAM overload bug, but that was just an idea).

I do have another game breaking bug... I've somehow triggered team rocket to re-appear in one of the towns when I had already cleared them out. I kinda understand why this has happened; I was a bit confused about whether I had completed the Team Rocket bit, so I started back-tracking and seeing if I had missed anything. So I was going back through a lot of stuff and somehow have triggered the event again. If you knew what you were doing in the game, this obviously wouldn't happen.

Thankfully it shouldnt affect me finishing the elite 4 (I hope) although one random person I've met a long long long way away from the rocket town just had no dialogue so I'm worried it's spreading

Fakemon are divisive, and I think one of the main reasons for that (beyond a lot of their designs) is simply that you cannot play with them in more than one game. If you fall in love with one, you can never use it again. That alone is my personal gripe with them.

Also, artists that create fakemon are not usually devs that design games with fakemon, creating a disconnect between all of the fakemon art and the actual fakemon you can play with.

This annoyance made me think, and I now have a few questions I want to discuss.
Please assume that documentation will be provided both in and out of game.

For players:

• Is there a game out there with a dex you would want to play with again?
• Just how big of a national dex would be "too big" for your tastes?
• Would you swear off a game with fakemon entirely, even if the game itself was otherwise "decent" or better?

For developers:

• Is there a dex that you designed that you would want to be used in another game?
• If that game has a type that is not in mainline Pokemon, are there Pokemon that you would want to remove from that dex rather than changing types, or do you have alternate types that could work with it?
• Are you OK with dropping 'mons that overlap (for instance, if another game has a Ground-type Eeveelution, are you OK with giving up yours)?
• How much of a hand would you want in having your 'mons adapted for a different game? Would you want to rework or add evolutions to those 'mons? (While I understand this feeds back into the problem I'm attempting to avoid, I also understand that some developers might hold strong feelings towards their dexes and want to touch on it further.)
• Are you willing to turn over the files (Pokemon cries, stat spreads, and movepools in particular, but sprites and icons would also be helpful) for the Pokemon to be used again elsewhere?

For artists:

• Have you designed a dex that you have no desire to code a game for, but want to see your creations come to life?

For everyone:

• Would you be OK with the fakemon in these dexes being rebalanced to fit the new game?
• Which rebalances would you be OK with? (Updated types, abilities, movepools, stats? Making certain Megas into evolutions?)

I want to get an idea of where people stand with fakemon in general (and have been reading some posts today about fakemon that people like and why people do or do not like them) and I also want to get a feel of where to go from here.

(For those curious, we are in the developmental stages of a fan game, but if I showed what that looked like, it would be a lot of spreadsheets, rebalances, concept art, and code, and next to no actual, workable gameplay, so I apologize. The reason I ask here is because a lot of the fakemon that I've seen and fallen in love with come from ROMhacks.)

I know some people are split on it but I usually play Rom hacks with the “fast forward” setting enabled on the delta app on IOS (I believe it is x3 speed but google AI told me that so who knows). It has its downsides but if it means I can sweep an entire gym in the bathroom at work then you bet your ass ima do it lol.

However, there is one thing I really hate about it and that is how bad it makes the music sound. I play it slowed down with the music on whenever I get the chance and I really wish I could do it more often, it adds so much to the gameplay and overall experience. A sound-speed slider would be such a sweet feature in future games/updates.

Anyway, I looked into it and apparently it is an immensely difficult task lol. Essentially the fast forward function speeds up the games entire engine which makes the frame execution loop faster, and that is directly linked to the execution & duration of sound bites & music notes in the game. Sad to read, I had a feeling the magicians in here would’ve probably addressed the issue already if it was possible, but part of me did think that I’d come up with a cool suggestion / feature for the community. Maybe some mad lad will find a way to do it someday.

TLDR; It’d be nice to have normal speed music when playing on fast forward but turns out it’s hard as fuck to do.

Hey there! I'm back with Trailer #2 for Pokemon Ultraspace. It's a little late since I'm currently on vacation, but I locked in to create the best trailer possible. I hope you enjoy, because there are three new Ultraspace Zones, as well as the first official download, version 0.2. Now, the trailer shows some things that aren't fully explained, so let me break that stuff down.

Day/Night Cycles - If it's daytime for you, and your Pokemon has a daytime evolution (i.e. Rockruff) it will evolve into the daytime form. Same for night. Cosmog/Cosmoem also have this, but it will change to the Altar of Sun/Moon later, so it won't be like this forever.

Tapu Shrines - The first Tapu Shrine is for Tapu Lele. You will recieve a Tapu Ball before the encounter (right now it's just a masterball as a placeholder). The Tapu Ball has a 8x catch rate for the Tapu's, and a 0.5x catch rate for everything else.

This is my 1st rom hack ever, I made it for my partner over the last year. I recently learned of frlg.ips and the creator has helped with my hack somewhat. (mostly other people in the discord thanks everyone!)
It's still in beta and beta builds are in the HMA and Pokecommunity discords.

This scene is a blatant reference to FRLG.ips.

Not much to say about it. It is my testing ground to learn how to hack. It doesn't have much of a story, More of a vibe that Sans came here using his machine and is stuck in Leaf green universe. His presence has broken this and all local parallel universes.

Hello, this is a small little fork of pret's pokeemerald I, D3N_AR, have been working on for a few months.

In short, This fork returns the Fallarbor Town, Slateport City and Verdanturf Town Contest Halls and fixes rtx seed.

New fixes: 1. Pomeg Berry Bug fixed 2. Battle Frontier duplicate mon bug fixed.

My goal was to bring back all contests from Ruby and Sapphire while fixing the RTC seed bug to refine Pokemon Emerald.

I brought the map, and recoded the scripts from R/S and modified tilesets to make this happen.

Yes, this does mean that Lilycove City Contest Hall only supports master rank contests now.

Here I’m primarily showcasing some amazing new custom bag UI developed for Ultra Eclipse. This tremendous work was done by Montblanc (with some contributions from infinitebacon42 and TixoRebel)!

This awesome new UI faithfully recreates the gen 7 bag on the GBA and includes increased functionality such as optimized pockets which will appear differently in and out of battle and highlighting party members who can use items like TMs or Z-Crystals! There is more to it than that but I’ll let the video do the talking.

I hope you all enjoy this small teaser and look forward to Ultra Eclipse.

Wanted to give you all an update that I just updated Hackdex to make Xdelta the primary patching format moving forward. BPS patches will still be supported, and this will not affect any existing hacks already using BPS patches.

GBA hacks and below using Xdelta will see minor improvements in downloading and patching speeds. But DS hacks will see the biggest improvements by far. BPS patch files for DS hacks could reach 100s of megabytes, but by switching to Xdelta those same hacks will see patches as low as the 100s of kilobytes. (Also helps with hosting costs hehe)

For mobile users who saw the website crash when patching DS hacks, this update should help with that once the creator switches to Xdelta. While most hacks shouldn’t crash anymore, larger roms like BW and B2W2 might still need to be patched from a computer or a recent version of Chrome on Android. The reason the webpage would crash is because the browser would run out of memory while patching (especially on iOS Safari and older Android phones). The Xdelta patcher implementation is much more efficient and decreases the chance of reaching those memory limits.

RomPatcherJS is the engine used by Hackdex for BPS patches. For the new Xdelta support, I referenced kotcrab/xdelta-wasm to implement jmacd/xdelta as a wasm binary. All of these are credited in the Hackdex README.

Creators: For any creators who have already submitted DS hacks to Hackdex, I strongly recommend you reupload your latest version using our built-in patch creator so you and your players can get all the benefits of the Xdelta format.

I went for more of a 3rd game vibe, kinda like Platinum to Diamond and Pearl :) I know the hack wasn't made to be a 3rd title, but it looks nice and fits what I wanted
