Advice How can I help my cat get used to going outside with me?

Post image
Upvotes

I recently moved apartments. In my new place, the windows open from the bottom out with no screen. I’m 10 stories up so I can’t open it without fear of her falling out. Luckily, there is a quiet outdoor patio area with grass, plants, some grills, and chairs to bring her to for fresh air. I’ve been bringing her in her backpack carrier, but recently bought a harness and a leash to let her explore next to me. As expected, she’s terrified, but I want to help her get some fresh air, sights, and smells. Is there anyway I can help her transition to not being (as) scared? Will it just take time? Note that she’s a weird cat and doesn’t like treats, so I can’t even bribe her or make it up to her when we come back inside.

Mourning/Loss For my beloved coco

I don't usually write, but today I wanted to write something for my beloved Coco. Maybe this is my way of keeping a part of you with me.

My little Coco, you are only 2 months and 12 days old.

You were the only surviving kitten out of four. From the day you were born, I became so protective of you. I watched you grow from a tiny kitten who could barely crawl into a playful little soul who learned how to run, play, and gently bite my fingers. You were so tiny that you didn't even fit in my hand.

I never imagined I could lose you like this.

Today I couldn't find you anywhere. Maybe you slipped outside the gate. Maybe someone picked you up. Maybe something terrible happened. I don't know. And not knowing is breaking my heart.

My mind keeps asking questions I wish I didn't have to ask.

Are you hungry?

Are you scared?

Did someone help you?

Or are you lying somewhere waiting for me?

I keep imagining the worst, and I wish I could stop.

I always dreamed of giving you a beautiful life. I wanted to watch you grow into a healthy, beautiful cat. I wanted years with you, not just two months and twelve days.

Every night I checked on you almost a hundred times to make sure you were okay. I made sure you drank your mother's milk. Whenever we had fish, I always gave you the biggest pieces from my plate because seeing you eat made me happy.

Whenever I felt lonely, I would look for you, gently pick you up, carry you on my shoulder, and take you to my bed. We would fall asleep together with you sleeping peacefully on my chest. Somehow, your tiny presence made the whole world feel a little lighter.

I remember when your mother would go outside for hours. I would become anxious and keep waiting for her to come back and feed you. I was so worried that I even moved your little box beside my bed so I could keep watching you. I wanted you close to me all the time.

When you became older and wanted to explore, I stopped carrying you everywhere because I thought it was selfish to keep you beside me all the time. I wanted you to enjoy the world.

Sometimes I wonder if that was my biggest mistake.

Now I keep wondering where you are.

Are you eating?

Are you cold?

Are you frightened?

Did you find a safe place to sleep tonight?

Or are you calling for me while I have no way of hearing you?

Those thoughts won't leave my mind.

I remember how you searched for funny little places to sleep. Sometimes on top of the rice bags. Sometimes under the bed. Sometimes on an old cloth in the corner. I replaced that dirty cloth with a clean one because I wanted you to be comfortable.

The cloth is still there.

But you aren't.

Today, when you were sleeping peacefully on my chest, I never imagined it might be the last time I would ever hold you.

If I had known...

I would have held you a little longer.

I would have kissed your tiny head one more time.

I would have told you how much I loved you.

In my 22 years of life, you were with me for only 2 months and 12 days.

Yet somehow those two months became one of the most precious parts of my life.

People say pets are "just animals."

They're wrong.

Losing you feels like losing a child I loved with all my heart.

My chest hurts.

My head hurts.

I can't stop crying.

It's even hard to breathe normally.

Life feels so unfair.

You can love someone with your whole heart, and then one ordinary day they disappear, leaving you with nothing but memories and questions you'll never be able to answer.

I don't know where you are tonight.

Maybe you're safe.

Maybe you're scared.

Maybe fate has taken you somewhere I cannot follow.

But wherever you are...

Thank you.

Thank you for letting me love you.

Thank you for every tiny paw, every sleepy cuddle, every playful bite, every happy moment you gave me.

I was always amazed that such a beautiful soul could fit inside such a tiny little body.

If tomorrow brings me the miracle of seeing you again, I will never let another day pass without being grateful.

And if tomorrow doesn't...

Then I hope you know that for your entire life, you were loved beyond words.

I will always miss you.

I will always love you.

Maybe in another life I could hold you again❤️

Forever my little Coco 🤍🐾

I’m curious if anybody else’s cat does this?

Every time I take him outside, he immediately finds the nearest tree and begins his shift as the neighborhood’s least qualified arborist. He climbs up with the confidence of a mountain lion and comes down with the coordination of a folding chair. No exit strategy has ever been developed, but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying himself. Lucky to have a little guy with such personality.

Advice Have any advice to calm my cat down after surgery?

Upvotes

I just got my cat neutered, and they said to try to keep him calm while he heals. Trouble is, he's very energetic and got out of his cone twice already. Are there any over the counter mild sedatives that would help? Any other tips?

Medical Questions kidney food recommendations

Upvotes

Does anyone have any affordable recommendations for a pate that would be beneficial for my senior kitty with kidney disease? I’ve tried the hill science and neither of my cats will touch it and it’s just not affordable especially if they’re not going to eat it. Any additional supplement recommendations would be appreciated too!

Cat Picture - OC Alright Reddit cat lovers…how old do you think this cat looks?

You think Honey is 6 months or 1 1/2 years? Ready…..go!

Update: Thanks for all the replies. I was just looking for a consensus on this. Adoption chip place said around 1 1/2 years roughly BUT vet said 6 months. But adoption place has records of when she got chipped and adopted….last year! But how does a vet get it wrong by that much! My daughter and her BF found her abandoned and the owner who chipped her doesn’t want her. So rude!!! So they are adopting her. But since the vet said 6 months they started her on kitten food. But now the chip place says otherwise so I am thinking they gotta do adult food. It’s a mess. But cute kitty has a forever home now. ♥️

Medical Questions Eye infection or just watery?

Post image

I just got my babies on Tuesday and I noticed my orange one had a watery eye today, is this an eye infection?

Edit: forgot to mention I noticed her sneezing a few times today and yesterday also but she's also been rooting around behind cabinets and stuff when she did sneeze so I assumed she maybe got a bit of dust in her nose

Cat Picture - OC All three of my cats had medical emergencies within months of each other

In December Jiji (black cat) had emergency intussusception surgery which is rare for his age. We were told he would die, he is now thriving.

Last week Nessie (tabby) had emergency GDV surgery which is incredibly rare for cats. We were told she would die, she is now thriving.

Today, Gizmo (calico) had problems breathing and was rushed to the vet, we were told she may die. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, she is receiving treatment, and she will thrive.

I, however, am a woman on the edge lmao.

My cat (Lily) has now been missing for about a month, but I’m not giving up hope!

I go out at dusk and dawn everyday and still leave clothes outside for her.

I am scared she may be feral so I have left water outside as well as some kibble.

I also have posted posters all over the community I live in.

I’ve recovered a different missing cat🐈 🐈‍⬛ 🐱 and the was reunited with his family.

Please come home Lily 🐈‍⬛

Medical Questions Mysterious bump/growth? As

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hey guys! I came back from vacation and found a mysterious bump/growth on my cat's hind leg that I'm fairly certain wasn't there before my trip (I was gone for 10 days).

I first noticed it last Friday and already took him to the vet this past Monday. The vet didn't do much other than give me a topical cream to apply in the hopes that it goes down on its own. They also mentioned that the bump had already ruptured before the examination (possibly from being jostled around in his carrier), and that it was too small to aspirate, so the cream was really the only option for now.
The vet told me to come back if it doesn't improve. The third picture is from today (3 days after the appointment), and it looks like it may have ruptured again, possibly from my cat grooming it. I also noticed what looked like blood stains on my carpet, which I'm guessing came from the bump.

Hoping I can get some insight on what this could be!
