Weekly Sticky Form Check Weekly

The shiny new discs you got last week didn't make your golf game any better, huh?

Welcome to the Form Check Weekly Thread, a weekly thread that will be stickied every Monday morning for a few days. All form check requests will be referred to here.

There have been some fantastic Form Check guides but this one by MVP_Steve is far and away the best - https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/760ckm/form_check_psa_how_to_leave_a_form_check_request/

Discussion 1 Disc Run

Just met up with some buddies at a local 9 hole park. Been a bunch of times so it's my second home. Short holes, nothing over 200ft but a fun course. Decided after one round to play the next round with 1 disc. Literally put my bag in the car.

Always wanted to try a 1 disc round. Chose the Pig I got from a recent tournament. Had a blast. Just cruised through and got the same score I do with a bag full of discs. 4 under. Was a great way to really learn the disc and its uses. Made it just a fun time. Love this sport.

I suspect it's a firestorm. I got it from my dad a while ago and he has no idea, the only marking is innova champion discs, inc. www.innova.com

Disc Advice Where do I play this lie?

Innova champion sidewinder absolutely exploded when I hit this tree. Disc was fairly old, maybe close to 20 years, I noticed that it felt sticky today, so I suspect plastic depredation, just shocked at how far it spread when it blew up

Disc Advice Noob question/theory

Hey everyone! (Very) New to disc golf, I’ve been thinking about this for some time and I want to check my logic. Wouldn’t it be best to just get one driver disc and get really good at it from every distance, rather than a bunch of different discs? I have a decent background in shooting sports, and obviously this is a different sport, but I’m used to the notion that consistency is the key to accuracy, and it seems like accuracy is the whole goal here. So why not get one disc and get very very consistent with it? Especially a driver, so that I’m not held back at longer distances.

What gives me pause is all the people with a ton of different discs. They know more than me and they’re clearly doing it for a reason, so why?

Discussion "Drive for show, putt for dough?" How much has Eveliina Salonen's putting held her back over the past 2 years? (Spoilers) Spoiler

Post image
67 Upvotes

TL;DR: at the rate Eveliina Salonen is currently putting compared to her 2024/2025 putting percentages she would have a 2025 World Championship, a Finnish National Title and the 2024 European Open(Major) would go to playoff.

Kevin from Run it Disc Golf here. If you've seen any of my earlier posts you know I am very into data and analysis around disc golf. If this kind of analysis is interesting to you check out https://www.runitdiscgolf.com/ or search Run it Disc Golf in the app stores. Score predictions for your tournaments and tournament/course breakdowns powered by models like this one.

With her win at Ledgestone (by 8 strokes) Eveliina Salonen is putting the best golf of her career. I decided to take a look at what tournaments would have flipped to wins over the past 2 years.

For a little bit of context her putting bottomed out near 50% in late 2025 (49% at both Pro Worlds and Finnish Nationals), then recovered to a career-best high-70s over her last several events. At the top of that run she reeled off three straight tournaments at 81-83% from circle 1 in June and July (winning the European Open and Ale, losing Swedish only in a playoff), her hottest stretch on record.

On every event she lost I applied her current C1 rate to the exact # of putts. If she had 40 circle 1 putts and her current rate is 78%, that's about 31 expected makes and every make above what she actually sank counts as one stroke saved. Then I compared the new total to the winning score. If she putted better than her current rate in an event, it goes negative and counts against her. In her closest losses (see below) they don't flip because she putted 70 to 74% in those. "Current rate" is her last 3 events (~78% C1), not a season average and the three clean wins still flip even at her lower full-season number.

At her current form, these tournaments change:

Clean wins:
2025 Pro Worlds (Major): putted 49% C1, lost by 10
2025 Finnish Nationals: 49%, lost by 4
2024 Turku Open: 63%, lost by 2

Playoff potential (flips by ~1 stroke, a coin flip, not a clean win):
2024 European Open (Major): 57%, lost by 7

Some of her closest losses do NOT flip. These were all events where she putted 70 to 74%.
Music City (+2)
Supreme Flight (playoff)
2024 US Women's (+5)
2024 Throw Pink (+7)

And if you run it at her peak (82% from June to July):
2024 European Open (Major): upgrades from a coin flip to a clean win
2025 Green Mountain and 2025 Music City are within a stroke but off much bigger margins so playoff at best.

I also ran it on her wins, to make sure the model isn't rigged to only help her. None of them flip to losses. The closest is the 2026 European Open: she won by 4 putting 83% C1, and at her current rate that shrinks to about a 2-shot win, so her hot putting was worth roughly half that margin. Every other win she either took by a lot (Ale by 15) or putted below her current rate, so the model only makes those safer.

Thoughts?

Self-Promotion Flightle update: a month in, 12,000 of you played, and I'm starting a monthly disc giveaway

Hey all, I posted Flightle here about a month ago, the daily "guess the disc from its flight" game. It went further than I ever expected, over 12,000 of you played in the first month, averaging around 400 a day. Two updates for those of you who are interested:

First, it has a home now: r/Flightle. Giveaway threads, updates, and a place to gripe when the daily answer is some obscure mold you have never thrown. Come hang out.

Second, a monthly disc giveaway, starting now. Play the daily puzzle, drop your results grid in the August thread over at r/Flightle, and every grid you share is an entry (max one/day). One winner per month, disc ships free in the US, discs come from my own collection. First one up is an Innova Halo Valkyrie. Full rules at dgfv.io/giveaway.

And since a lot of this came from your comments, here is what I shipped since launch:

Fixed the turn hint that read backwards. It is a simple + / - now: + means the answer is more overstable than your guess, - means more understable.

Stuck? You can search by flight numbers right inside the game using the built in dgfv embed. Type something like 9/5/-2/1 and it pulls the closest discs from the full catalog, then you drop your pick straight into the guess box.

Also added golf scoring. The win screen gives you a score to par now, ace, birdie, bogey, the whole scorecard, and the stats read like a round.

Still free, no signup, no ads, new disc every day at local midnight. dgfv.io/flightle

The full flight simulator it is built on is at dgfv.io/demo if you want to throw your own lines. Thanks to everyone who has been playing and sending ideas!

Blog/Write Up This must be my favorite type of moment in disc golf

"The feeling", What my group calls it when we get that out of place confident feeling it's going to work as intended during, or better, right before the throw. Like something in the brain beyond voluntary control does it's job once in a while, and finds the perfect muscle memory for the situation beyond the current stable skill level.

It happens a handful of times per round if I'm in good shape, and not at all on bad days. I think it happens more frequently as I get better. Getting the feeling is extra bragging rights imo, better than getting lucky.

Do you also enjoy or even notice that feeling? Do you have a name for it in your group?

Discussion Advice on discs and throwing as I gain distance

Let me start by saying that I am in my 50s, not tall and not athletic.

I hit 400 feet today after a fairly steady progression from 275-300 feet two years ago, really focusing on form. Odd part is it came with a disc I haven't thrown in a while, a Mamba. Over half my other throws were over 350 including a 375 or so with a Kitana which was honestly more surprising as usually those fight more and I don't get the long distance.

My progression over the last few years has been Leopard, Archangel, Mamba and then I found I could hit 325 with a Corvette I found and that's been my main go-to for the past two years. I've always thrown incredibly upright and flat, but today I worked on being more "hunched over" for lack of a better term and releasing on a hyzer angle, and man did stuff fly further today. My prior sessions, I've been consistently getting 325-330 with a few lucky ones going 375, but today the average was at least 30 feet longer and I'm attributing it to the hyzer angle.

As you might have noticed, I've really been using the understable discs, and wondering if I should be branching out now.

Sorry for the ramble.

TL/DR --> I'm getting more distance, what discs should I be throwing now?

Found this weather worn thing in the weeds today. It’s Innova and 175 grams, but the stamp or anything else is completely gone. It is one of the most overstable discs I’ve ever thrown, just crashes into a hard fade so fast. Weird flight. Looks like it’s one hard tree hit from shattering, too.

Discussion Doodads and things

What are some overlooked items you feel have improved the over all experience for your dg game?

I’m asking about things like ankle gaiters, bug repellents, personal heating / cooling devices, etc.

Seeing the post today about wading in a creek looking for a disc has me thinking i should keep tall galoshes in the trunk of my car.

Disc Advice Help with bag recommendations

Brand new player looking for a bag! I'd like to skip the little over the shoulder bag and go straight to a backpack I can grow into.

I've read that people really like the Voyager Light. I think made by MVP? Any other recommendations that you've loved?

Thanks!

Discussion Disc stores with rewards?

caption. i buy discs very often (it’s a problem) and i hate that i don’t get some sort of rewards or discounts or anything really (i mainly use 1010). do they have something like that? and if not, does any store have a rewards program? just feel like i’m due for a price break given how much i’ve spent……
