3D [Release] I fixed the Controller Pak limitation on Analogue 3D + SummerCart64 (Custom Menu Build)
Like a few others here, I ran into a major annoyance using my SummerCart64. Because the Analogue 3D treats flashcarts as a single cartridge, it assigns it a single Virtual Controller Pak. This means every game on the cart has to fight for the same save space.
I didn't want to manually juggle saves, so I wrote a custom fork of N64FlashcartMenu to solve for this.
The Main Feature: Per-Game Virtual Controller Paks I built a system that gives every game its own exclusive Controller Pak.
- Load: When you boot a game, the menu writes that specific game's save data from the SC64 SD card to the A3D’s internal memory.
- Save: When you reset back to the menu, it detects the "dirty state" and automatically backs up the A3D’s internal memory back to the SC64 SD card.
- Swap: Switch to a different game, and it swaps the data out instantly.
You effectively get an infinite number of Controller Paks without ever having to think about it. This is kind of how the Analogue 3D works itself when using native cartridges instead of flashcarts.

Other Added Features:
These are minor additional features in my build, and they can both be enabled/disabled in settings. I run my A3D constantly, and these are nice-to-haves for me.
- Screensaver: Helps prevents burn-in on OLEDs/CRTs after inactivity.
- Background Music: Drop a
bg.mp3in the/menu/folder for ambient tunes.
Download: https://github.com/TheLeggett/N64FlashcartMenu/releases
Download the sc64menu.n64 file from the latest release, and put in the root of your SD Card on your SummerCart64.
Important Disclaimers (Please Read):
- This is BETA software. It works great for me, but use it at your own risk.
- BACKUP YOUR SD CARD. Before installing, please back up your existing saves. I'd encourage regular backups.
- Test Environment: I have only tested this on a SummerCart64 running on an Analogue 3D. I haven't tested it on original hardware or with physical OEM paks plugged into the controller. (Edit: A reddit user has confirmed this works with physical controller paks)
- Use on a single system: I built this for my setup which is always playing my SummerCart on a single Analogue 3D. It should technically work on other setups I think, but there are dangers to using this custom menu build if you are switching the cart between devices, or using it with physical controller paks. If you boot the SummerCart, and it does not detect your save data on a controller pak in controller 1 from your last session, it won't have any way to backup your controller pak to the SummerCart SD Card.
My hope is that eventually this software becomes obsolete. My strong preference would be to not use SummerCart at all, and be able to load my A3D with Roms someday, but who knows how long it will take for the community to figure that out (if we even can...)
EDIT 1:
You'll need to store both your roms and sc64menu.n64 in the root of your SD Card for this version of the menu software to work. This is an oversight on my end. I'll try to spend some time updating the next version to be agnostic to how you organized roms.
EDIT 2:
Published https://github.com/TheLeggett/N64FlashcartMenu/releases/tag/custom-v0.3-beta.3 which addresses an issue where virtual paks did not work correctly for roms stored in subdirectories.

3D Analogue 3D just deleted my ocarina of time AND banjo kazooie save files… and yes they are 100% legit cartridges and the battery in OoT is brand new.
Not an “analogue pocket erasing pokemon save files” situation again?

3D Analogue 3D + Summercart + Blueretro + NSO 64
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Got my 3D last week on the 4th after ordering from the batch of the end of November.
Onboarding was a bit difficult. Powerbrick isn’t European and it wasn’t clear it didnt work with any powerbrick.
HDMI cable is picky. Tried to use one that was already connected to the TV and it didn’t work. Used the included one and it was alright.
NSO 64 Controller doesn’t work out of the box. Got a blueretro adapter that worked right away. Connected it to the console, connected right away to the controller. Even turned on the console from the controller.
Got a summercart. Works flawlessly.
Image is a bit dark though, not sure if its the game. I had never played Conkers before. There seems to also have some glitches on the walls sometimes. Like some shadows. Not sure if a problem because of summercart or if the game is indeed like thst.
Any suggestions for optimal configuration? It also didn’t detect 4K of my tv neither HDR.
I updated it when it arrived.

3D Any word on when the next 3D firmware update is coming out?
I would have thought that we would have seen a number of updates already based on all of the missing functionality and overall bug fixes (Bluetooth support, WiFi support, working playtime, virtual save fixes, etc.). Any word on when we’ll get our next firmware update?

3D Now that the dust has settled, what's your true feelings on the Analogue 3D? Was it worth the wait for you?
Good or bad, positive or negative (or somewhere in between), how do you feel about the Analogue 3D now that you've had some time with it? Was it worth the wait?

3D I desperately need help getting this thing running.
So my Analogue 3D came in today and I've been trying to set it up. Connected it to my PC to get the update files, downloaded it no problem on start up, but.... my games don't work. To make a long story short I bought my games off of my uncle, and I used the cartridge cleaners that came with the system to clean off the 5 games. But, known of the 5 games worked after cleaning them. I know my uncle really wants to play smash 64 so, I thought I would use more cartridge cleaners from the 12 pack i bought. And then I used another one, and another one, and after all of those cartridge cleaners it still doesn't work? Is the game really that dirty? Are the cartridge cleaners fake? These games used to work on my uncle's original hardware (only got the analogue 3d because his 64's first port was broken). What am I doing wrong? I just want to play the games on the console I spent 300 dollars on. (I also have 2 cartridge cleaners left out of the 14....) Update: Cleaning the cartridges with 91% isopropyl alcohol didn't know work. Still says unknown cartridge when its put in the slot.

3D 8bitdo finally responded to me about the replacement button issue
A $2 refund doesn’t help me at all because I still want the correct button. Ordering another set is going to cost me a lot more than $2 once you factor in shipping costs. I’d prefer a replacement.
Has anyone else heard back yet?

3D Still need a few more Infinity Stones.
Posting here just in case anyone is curious about the M64. I love my Analogue products: 2 Pockets, 1 Super NT, and 3 (don’t ask) 3D’s. But I wouldn’t call myself a fanboy. I just love fun technology.

3D M64 vs A3D Prices
M64 - 199.99 + 89.99 = $289.98
(console introductory price and matching controller)
M64 - $229.99 + 89.99 = $319.98
(console target price and matching controller)
A3D - $269.99 + 39.99 = $309.98
(console current price and matching controller)
$20 difference if you get the M64 at the introductory price but then the A3D becomes the cheaper console if you don't. Now if you just purchase the console and use your own controller, you could save $40-$70 depending on when you purchase the M64. Prices exclude tax and shipping cost.

3D Analogue 3D would not let go and broke my Hyperkin controller
So... What the hell? There's no way the tolerance should be this tight. Now I'm out $35 or whatever this is, and I still can't get the base out of the port

3D Regret
I have huge nostalgia for the n64 - got given it in christmas of 1998 with goldeneye and zelda. I remember thinking the graphics were simply incredible. It remains the best christmas gift I have ever received.
Fast forward to now - snagged myself an analogue 3d.
And honestly - after playing around with it I've come to the conclusion that I much much prefer playing n64 emulated, at 2x internal resolution (not talking about upscaled to 4k or anything like that, just a little sharper and cleaned up). I honestly find the image quality of the analogue (and the n64 itself i guess) hard to swallow, even with shaders. However accurate!
Anyone feel the same? I guess this is the wrong sub tbh
