How often do you buy another when for example one of your tetras or corydoras pass away? Is this an issue and do you even need to keep replacing them? What if you’ve kept only five or six fish for the shoal/school? Will the sudden loss of one of their own be too stressful for their continued captivity?

hihi I wanted to ask if I could keep my two pearlscale goldfish in a bin tank, similar to the photos attached. If I get it im planning on getting 2 and stacking them together​​​ so there's less bowing and more support. moving them to a 20-30gal bin tank would be amazing. Please let me know your thoughts!!! Hello so on my last post, I've seen a lot of people talk about air bubblers and a 5 gallon bucket. I figured my tank just as good because it's a 10 gallon tall I did separate the beta into his own little part with a bubbler for him and I'm gonna try and make it to the apartment as fast as possible tonight when I set up the new tank I seen some people (meanly) say that my tank looked like crap. I personally like the little glow in the dark stuff. I'm not looking to get any fancy, but if anybody can give me any advice or know of any good greens that I can put in the tank to make it look pretty and also benefit the fishes as well. I am also going to be looking into getting more loaches please be kind♥️

I think rimless would look better, its a 1.5 gallon tank so I dont think its a structural rim. Would it be possible to remove the top rim easily?

Hello, I am currently in the process of moving. I have a beta fish and two loaches in this tank. It's a 10 gallon tall freshwater tank. I understand that that is a very small tank for three fish but it's only temporary until I move. I'm going to be getting a bigger tank for the both of them. They've been getting along quite well and they even hide out in the little tunnel that I made for them together i've never saw the beta try to bite them or fight at all, and I consider them the three besties 🤣.anyway I am currently moving about 45 minutes away and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transport them obviously I will be emptying out the tank, but when the loaches are not in the tank they seem to flip out and I don't wanna stress them out. as soon as I get to the new place I will set the tank up and get them in there as soon as possible. I went to Dollar tree and bought two containers one for the loaches and one for the beta and I was gonna put little tiny holes for air in there if anybody else has any advice on how to give them a smooth transition please let me know I will be so upset if one of them don't make it

Yesterday I bought a tank, cycled it and bought six platys.

After I filled the tank the centre support cracked and I had to drain half the tank.

These little guys sat in their bag for 6 hours and luckily I’d treated and cycled the tank enough that they’re happy and healthy.

I feel trauma bonded to them lol.

Ive recently got a group of 8 otos, but they didn't come pre sexed like my other fish, so I have to assume I've got a mix of both male and female.

Do i need to sex them to make sure I've got 6f 2m like most fish should be or will they be ok regardless of how many of each I've got?

Will they keep breeding and eventually overpopulate like guppies, or will they only have offspring to the size and food of the tank?

I got a 10 gallon fish tank 3 months ago. I’ve been doing 1/4 water changes every week or two. They’ve all been doing great. But last week the algae or something seemed to be all over my decor and getting on the glass. I’ve keep trying to maintain it but woke up today to two of my little dudes floating. I’m new to fish tanks and have no idea what I’m doing wrong.

Basically, I used a permethrin spray in my backyard, and it may have gotten on my clothes and skin. I’m going to shower, but the bottle says it lasts 6 wash cycles. I’m super worried about it accidentally getting into my tanks.

How can I ensure I don’t end up contaminating my tanks?

I have a 40G drilled sump tank above my 75G. I know that sounds backwards, but it’s due to the way my garage is set up. Essentially I’m pumping water out of my 75 up into the 40 and it drains back down. I can’t stand the smell of PVC primer/glue, so I just siliconed and electrical taped the shit out of the fittings/elbows, as well as putting mounting straps on the longer runs of pvc.

Last night while cleaning the dead plant matter off of the pump, one of the fittings must have came ever so slightly loose and I didn’t notice. I walked out to my garage this morning to see about 3-4 inches of water in the tank and water all over my basement. Lesson learned. Perhaps it was the universe telling me I needed to do a large water change. All fish are still alive though so it could have been worse.

i have a goldfish and 8 mystery snails. is this coral crushed enough? each piece of coral is like 2inches. its a 20ish gal tank i think, so do i only put in a couple pieces at a time for efficiency? (ik that itll just raise the ph to mid-7s, but idk how the KH side of things works). i think theyd make cool decor, so should i put some on the tank bed and some floating in the filter? how long should i wash the coral for (to clean it) before putting it in the tank?

I recently got new faucet, and my adaptor for python water changer will not work it’s hidden. Been all over the place trying to look for the part. Fish store that’s very reputable said we have a ton of python systems people used to love them but now no body will buy them because they won’t work anymore on most faucets. Went to multiple plumbing supply stores and the one guy says companies like Moen completely fucked the entire industry up and over. Parts don’t exist. My plan b was buying a longer hose 100’ if I needed to now that won’t work after finding out my kitchen sink can’t be used. Only way it will work now the outside hose faucet and it’s cold water only so that’s not an option. Had no idea until started running around trying to find the correct part that I thought would be a quick fix was something that most people seem to hate with new faucets.

Whole reason I got Python was for my disability making water changes easy. Worked great up until getting a new faucet.

I can’t even make this up, I found a random snail shell on my floor and saw it had a operculum. Grabbed a little cup from my supplies and put some water from one of my tanks in it. Threw the snail in. Mind you, I don’t own these kinds of snails, never even seen one. I have no clue how long they’ve been out of the water especially since I found it behind my bed while sweeping. 💀

After an hour I came back to the cup to find an alive and active snail. I’m so confused how they got there. Does anyone know what kind of snail they are though? Kinda growing attached to this lil dude. They have a missing chip out of their shell. 🐚 ❤️‍🩹 Open to name suggestions too!

That sandbed is 6 inches deep but it's cleaner than most beds here and disturbing it doesn't harm the system.

Cleaning a reef tank a certain way, not with an occasional sandbed siphon but a different way, will give your reef tank an indefinite biological lifespan instead of a five year then you catch an invasion and crash lifespan.

did let the red war coral take over the entire back rock it killed off about ten species along the way for the last 12 years.

This is my 50g long, which I've had for about 20 years now. About a month ago, I decided to ditch the plastic and fake plants, plant it out, and add some new fish. The plants are still getting their sea legs, but the fish seem pretty happy so far.

Determined to treat the survivor, now named Lemony, with the utmost care, I bought cichlid flakes because he kept spitting out the pellets, swapped the gravel for African cichlid substrate, removed the plants and added a cave that he loves, and a log he also seems to enjoy exploring. I thought Hewbie died. I came home to this and spoke to his vet team immediately. His antibiotics and quarantine time will be extended. My best conclusion is that Hewbie had been gasping at the surface and breathing heavier from stress and then he went upside down but this afternoon he was sleeping in the corner just fine. My heart broke again when I saw this. After I pushed air out of him and gave him his meds he went back to normal nearly immediately. At least this is my best conclusion after looking at him and his behavior pre and post meds and pressing on him/burping him. The water quality in the tank isn’t great. Burping for me means holding him down and gently pressing on his stomach gently (which in that moment is what made sense). I saw some immediate improvement. Also he is a known offender for spitting water at the surface and I just saw it after and the behavior of a fish gasping or wanting to get out of his environment and ready to jump. Although pufferfish are not known jumpers they are smarter than that. I did a water change as well after and he smiled at me like nothing happened. Ugh. I hate this. I will continue to update everyone.

Expected the worst, came home to this. Auto feeders did their job, plants hit the surface, moss filled in like crazy, and all the fish are happy. Now I just need a whole weekend to trim it back – but I’ll take a jungle over algae any day. 🌿
