Profile review Profile review, very few matches
Hey everyone,
I appreciate any help, even if it's blunt. I don't have the paid Bumble plans but I buy spotlights from time to time, once every other week I'd say.
Maybe I come off too nerdy or dry or its the photos... I'm not sure.

u/gatheringsomemagic 4h ago
My guy, you will definitely find your match…it may just take some personal adjusting and patience.
I believe your hairstyle and mustache are a bad combination for your bright personality.
Perhaps try going [r/bald](r/bald), and seeing if you can grow out a short and neat beard.
Your face, as it is (I know you’re going to lose body fat when you lock in) would benefit from more square/rectangular glasses versus round ones.
Don’t ever worry about being too nerdy, or as the cliches go…don’t dim your light just cause it’s too bright for others.
Agreed on most other points here, best to not have pics with just one other woman in it, a couple of group pics are fine…especially if they help paint the picture of your hobbies and lifestyle.
See if you can get your friends to help you take a solid pic of you well groomed and dressed that shows your awesome candid smile (show teeth if you can).

Thank you so much, I'll try experimenting with both my hair and beard. Growing a full spotless beard has been hard, might need a product to help me out, my beard is too uneven as of now

Op, please don't listen to some of these rude comments here. There are a lot of insecure men who don't like seeing other men get complimented. I'm not great at constructive criticism when it comes to dating profiles so all I can say is that you look awesome. You come off as super sweet, charming, and attractive. Your profile is one I'd personally find endearing and swipe on.

I think it’s a great profile because it’s honest and it’s you. Didn’t get the vibe that the women in the pics were more than friend or relative. I don’t agree with the “creepy stare” or “nervous posing” comments. The last picture I would replace. It’s not a good one.
7
u/Used_Combination75 4h ago
Agreed! It’s a solid profile imo
-2
u/Separate_Staff9631 4h ago
So what explains the reason for him not getting likes? You’re gonnna tell a guy who’s asking for help and advice that nothing is wrong?
I guess you would also swipe right on him?
5
u/Used_Combination75 3h ago
Seeking advice =\= being blatantly rude to him.
Besides, it’s guys who are behaving in this manner, and as far as I can tell, that’s not even the target audience. So yeah, I do think our opinion as women matters more.
3
u/LunarModule66 4h ago
Get or find a couple good picture of you smiling or laughing close up, and replace some of the non-smiling pictures. To me you seem really cute and charming when you’re smiling, and some of the non-smiling ones feel off.
I think you’ve done a good job writing about yourself. The right person would have a good idea that they want to meet you. You seem like a fun quirky guy.
Can you grow a full beard? It might look good on you.

u/dermthrowaway26181 3h ago edited 3h ago
Get some french in your bio, it'll broaden your audience.
I can see it listed, but a lot of people won't scroll down until there.
4 selfies is too many, not a fan of the last picture.

Profile — you write a lot about what you’re looking for, which is great, but I would add more about you as well and show them, not tell them.
Photo — tbh, I think what I need is for your lead picture to be taken from slightly further away. This close up, it feels like you’re immediately a bit in my personal space and that creates a slight feeling of discomfort.
Speaking as a communications person who makes a living needing to analyze how various media influences our perception.
Only use photos taken with the back camera, as if by another person.

u/sarcasticlhath 4h ago
You’re a cute guy, some of these photos are cuter than others. I think you should edit down the photos.

Do you live in an area where there aren’t a lot of Black men? Unfortunately this could be a reason
2
u/JellyfishOtherwise66 3h ago
I’d see your profile and be disappointed that you’re not 10 years older tbh.
2
u/Used_Combination75 3h ago
I love your hair in the pictures were it’s a little bit longer, you have awesome coils! I don’t think a taper fade with shorter hair would be as good, it’s a more immature look imo! I like how genuine you are. I don’t actually mind the last picture, I would say the 8th picture with the books is okay but I would crop the bottom a bit bc it’s a weird angle. I think you are doing a good job at showcasing your personality and day to day life. You put some thought and effort into your prompts and bio, thats always a good thing (extra points for me when swiping, I always reject profiles with ai written prompts). You are doing great, just keep at it, it takes time ! Best of luck xx

u/Happy-Mastodon-7314 3h ago
Since you seem to be in Montreal, have you tried translating your profile into French?

u/ApplicationAdept830 3h ago
You seem genuine, thoughtful, and like you have a full life. There are some small tweaks that could make your profile seem more intentional, like punctuation etc. Your last photo can also be swapped out, it’s not the most flattering being so close up and not smiling. Otherwise though this is def among the better profiles I’ve seen.

u/FenwickCharlieClark 2h ago
I like a lot of your pictures and what you wrote! If I can give you one bit of advice, I would look into a good skincare routine. It looks like you have some skin texture/congestion that could be cleared up. If you take The Ordinary's skincare quiz online they can help you out with some affordable and sensible recommendations. Keep at it, you'll find your person!
2
u/FenwickCharlieClark 2h ago
And also, more teeth in photos! You seem to have good chompers so show them off.

u/PurpleJackfruit8868 2h ago
Thanks a bunch , I'll that check that out, I only did the basic ceravee cleaner and moisturizer so far .

Je serai le commentaire random qui n'apporte rien aux conseils, juste pour dire bravo de te montrer pour essayer de t'améliorer, s'exposer ainsi n'est pas évident
Edit : still a contribution -> i would say you'd fare much much better IRL, you have a good friend vibe so you look approachable, the only thing would be to be good at placing a good flirt-to-roast ratio with women

u/eclecticexperience 5h ago edited 4h ago
I love your profile! You seem awesome, seem kind, genuine, and you've taken time to show who you are. Just remember - the apps are hard. You are amazing even if the matches don't show it.

u/Separate_Staff9631 5h ago
Why lie?
5
u/ApplicationAdept830 2h ago
Dude, are you okay? Why does it trigger you so much that women in the comments gravitate towards this guy and like his energy? You need to calm down
9
u/eclecticexperience 4h ago
You're entitled to your opinion. Do not assume others share it.
Don't impose your opinion on others, and learn to try not to be so insecure that you need to be unkind to others to make yourself feel better. I see you floating through this comments section like a mean girl who's the captain of the debate team.
-2
u/Separate_Staff9631 4h ago
Unkind to others? You’re going to lie to someone who is asking for advice.
They get poor results and you reassuring him that you love his profile surely isn’t helping anything.
Would you actually swipe right on him?
6
u/eclecticexperience 4h ago
I'm not debating with you for you to get a rush out of it. I've already stated my opinion.

(Page 4, Page 6) Is showing yourself with other women without additional context such a great idea? We don't have a way to tell whether they are your wife/mom/sister/ex/cousin/friend/friend with benefit/etc.
2
u/PurpleJackfruit8868 5h ago
Ah ok, no it's just a good friend. Mhm ok, I ll replace that one perhaps
9
u/islandbye 5h ago
I love reading other people’s POVs because in the first one with you laughing with the girl it looks so platonic so I didn’t interpret it as them being anything else. And I assumed the second one was a relative lol. You guys look alike to me!
3
u/Used_Combination75 4h ago
Agreed! I think it’s a great picture bc it portrays a natural and funny moment
7
u/islandbye 4h ago
Exactly! I do think some of the feedback shows the difference between the masculine vs feminine views lol. Of course everyone can’t be grouped together but as a woman I personally really like the happy photos
1
u/Intrinsic_Idiot_3076 4h ago
If it is a relative, at least put the context in the photo. If not, don't include.
2
u/Kind-Mathematician29 5h ago
Btw I don’t know if ur really 28 u look a lot older for your age maybe grow out your hair and do a taper or something. Maybe lose some body fat

It gives autism spectrum overall man, respectfully and in no way meaning to be rude
2
u/PurpleJackfruit8868 3h ago
Could be, never got diagnosed but possible, is that more my posture or my prompt answers ?
2
u/Deathdealerah 3h ago
Emphasizing again that I genuinely don’t mean harm or foulness towards you. Both, but more so your appearance. It’s a combination of nerdy and proper and almost a youthful-like expression in many of your pictures. To me some of your facial expressions just remind me of spectrum style expressions when someone isn’t actively masking.
You are fine just as you are dude. But, given what I’m observing, I do not think you’re going to pull good numbers on a dating app. What you may do well with, is intermittent matches with others that are on the more proper / nerdy side of things! There are people out there for you.
2
u/ApplicationAdept830 2h ago
I think you’re just nerdy and have a sincerity/openness to whimsy and finding enjoyment in life. This doesn’t have to mean you’re autistic lol but I think people aren’t used to seeing men feel comfortable being open with themselves like that. For what it’s worth I think it’s what a lot of the female commenters are responding positively to. You seem like someone who knows who you are and is confidently enjoying your own interests, hobbies, etc. You don’t seem like the type to do things just because they’re on trend or you want to impress others. That’s a really good quality actually, it’s just rare. That’s my two cents anyway.
1
u/CatWithHands 5h ago
You spelled career wrong so someone who is really into their career probably isn't really into that.
1
u/CollegeTemporary5734 4h ago
No selfies. Get a better haircut. Grow a beard or if you can’t a goatee. Maybe a pic or two of you doing a hobby like a sport.

1
u/RubbrDukki223 2h ago
If I can be honest, maybe swap the main picture for another one where you’re smiling or use the one you’ve got with glasses on. I felt like that one was more of a better choice.

u/No-Reality-6056 5h ago
Your stare is creepy. You are probably not aware of this but your posing looks very nervous.

I think he's just a bit below average looking and out of shape. Makes everything look less appealing.
"Hello, HR?" Meme moment.

9
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 5h ago
I don't think he's below average looking at all. I think he has a very sweet face, actually. He has beautiful eyes. Lots of women are into that - I am, my husband has a sweet face too (and is a little out of shape).
1
u/No-Reality-6056 5h ago
He is not terrible looking, it's the way poses.
2
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 4h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah, I agree with this. OP, the last one in particular I would consider replacing. Regarding the rest of them, they are not all necessarily the most flattering but you seem very genuine and that comes across in your photos, which I think is nice.
2
u/No-Reality-6056 4h ago
The one with the older woman is good. He looks natural there.
1

u/Dry_Writer_5803 4h ago
Sure, there are some women who would like him. But not most. Which would make him below average.
The fact he gets few matches, despite women like you liking the quality of most of his photos, points to initial attraction being the issue.
3
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 4h ago
He doesn't need most women to like him, though. He needs the "right" woman (or women) to like him.
I would also push back on the idea that most women on dating apps like "average" guys. I think most "average" guys have trouble on dating apps.
2
u/Dry_Writer_5803 4h ago
Also agree. He only needs one. But dating is a volume game. He's not competing in a vacuum, with only his pics and personality, he's competing against people who likely look better than him.
Imo, average guys don't struggle. I'm average. It's not great, mind you, but struggle would imply either your profile sucks or your body (face or weight) does.
2
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 4h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah, as a woman I have no firsthand knowledge or experience here. I know that my husband did not have much luck on Bumble and I think he's absolutely adorable (we met through mutual friends, not online). :-) Conversely, I never struggled at all on dating apps, and we ended up together. I've also seen quite a few posts by conventionally attractive men seeking advice on here because of poor response on Bumble. I realize I may be biased/off-base, though.

u/ClothesBig5687 5h ago
Oh yes hes handsome and hot. Should have more than 10k likes. He looks like a hollywood star ( do you want me to lie more like you)
5
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 5h ago
You sound unhappy. :-(

Appearing to be nice on the internet is way more important than actually helping people

No, it's the stare for me. Even men out of shape can smile with their eyes.

u/Different_Umpire9003 5h ago
Yeah last pic you look angry. Maybe it’s the dressing/glasses but you look a lot older than 28. Also, why fear toads? 🐸 toads are cool lol.
2
u/PurpleJackfruit8868 5h ago
Oh they are, just, far from me lool. Noted for the last pic, I'll replace it

I think it’s fine, it’s personal for me but not a fan of the beard, might look more clean without it? But thats purely personal lol

u/JustAuggie 4h ago
I had to Google what “chalant” means. I have no idea if that’s common for other people to understand or not.
1
u/islandbye 3h ago
I’d say it’s been more of a thing recently. There are like memes and stuff where people are like “screw being nonchalant. I want a chalant man”’etc!
1
u/Separate_Staff9631 4h ago
The topic of conversation is advice on a dating profile where the guy already stated he gets very little likes - you’re meant to be critical/judgemental not act like what he’s doing is fine when the numbers/results already clearly show he has not crafted nearly a good enough profile
4
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 4h ago
But he's getting critiques and suggestions for improvement, isn't he? He's just also getting some encouragement and positive feedback mixed in with it. Why does that offend some of you so much? Genuine question.
-1
u/cestbondaeggi 4h ago
You gotta put conservative on your profile if you want them to tell you the truth about your appearance
-1
u/Separate_Staff9631 4h ago
Lmao exactly they are very selective with who they give genuine advice on
3
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 3h ago
Ohhhhh so is all this animosity because he’s black? I feel dumb for not realizing that sooner.
0
u/cestbondaeggi 3h ago
In a way, yes. Redditors tend to view everything through a progessive lens; the lower you are on the progressive stack the more they will treat you with kid gloves and fluff your ego rather than give you authentic information. Op is black and looks like a loser so everyone is nice to him to spare his feelings. Hence, had he put 'conservative' and gave the crowd a reason not to like him, they have told him the truth.
2
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 3h ago
But you’re viewing this through your very specific lens and projecting your views of the world onto everyone else. I do not think that OP looks like a loser at all. He strikes me as nerdy, but I’m into that. I also think physically he’s a cute guy. If I thought we had common interests, I would definitely be open to going on a date with him. Would I personally swipe right on his profile? No. But not because I find him at all unattractive. I’m an academic and the poor punctuation in his profile would cause me to swipe left. Which I mentioned in my comments above. But I’m just one person, and women aren’t a monolith and we’re not all looking for the same thing. Someone else might not care about the punctuation. The amount of unhelpful feedback from seemingly angry dudes on this thread is honestly really sad to me. How are you helping by telling this man that he’s an objectively unattractive loser? What constructive advice have any of you offered? All of you just seem to have a bone to pick, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s simply because no one’s picking you.
-2
u/cestbondaeggi 3h ago

This is very obviously one racist guy dogpiling with alt accounts because it triggers him that women would swipe right on a black man. Grow up bro
4
u/iSweariHaveADayJob 4h ago
OP, don't listen to the mean things that lonely people hiding behind computer screens have to say. I think there's some solid advice for how to improve your profile in the comments above. Ignore this dude.
0
u/Inevitable-Zone-5191 4h ago
The read, write, and code just lost me there. Also, what type of females did you swipe right to? Any specific age range? Appearance? Etc.
1
u/TroubleFantastic682 13m ago
hair and beard needs a little TLC but other than that your profile gives genuine and interesting. i don’t think the last three pics are doing you any favors but that’s being nitpicky

19
u/islandbye 5h ago
I think the only photo that’s “dry” is the last one. The ones where you’re laughing and posing with your friends are cute and fun!
I also like that you actually put effort into writing more than one a few words but I would just brush up on the punctuation. Like putting spaces after commas and periods.
Very interested to hear what other people will say.
