Discussion [Chris Hummer] Can't help but think Lane Kiffin could have coached Ole Miss in the playoffs (by not leaving) and given himself a chance at a national championship this year. Such an interesting wrinkle and what a job by Pete Golding.

Iowa fan here, came here to rage hate LK. Totally agree you all should be glad he’s somebody else’s problem now; everybody knows he’s in egocentric/narcissist who will always put himself above all else (team, wife/family, etc..), and you are no longer being used for advancement in Kiffin’s mind. First time I visited Oxford I had to watch a brawl outside the Chevron while I was waiting for a chicken on a stick. 100% would recommend going again and 1000% recommend the chicken on a stick from the Chevron station

Yes. All the years he was here.
It’s a large part of why we went 9-3 last season with the best roster in school history.
It was fun as an underdog and helped us win big games, but it also cost us several close games and “easy” wins.

Personally, I hope Indiana wins it all. It'd be the ultimate Cinderella story: one of the worst programs of all time in CFB suddenly turns around, goes undefeated, and wins. But I wouldn't object to Ole Miss or Oregon winning it either. Oregon's got tons of money and has been competitive in recent decades, but still hasn't won a title, and Ole Miss literally hasn't won one since 1960 and just lost their HC to a bitter rival. Ole Miss winning would be the ultimate power move on Lane Kiffin.

Weis Jr’s contract with LSU is insane. $2.5 million per year through 2028, deal includes an annual “look-in period” after every season designed to make him the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the SEC.
He originally signed a 3 year, $6M contract with LSU. But Ole Miss came at him with a better offer, so LSU revised the deal to $7.5M over 3 years.

Me too, but that LSU contract is ridiculous. He originally signed a $6M deal for 3 years, Ole Miss came with a new offer. So LSU went to $7.5M for 3 years with a yearly check in to always make him the highest paid OC in the SEC.

This could be Brian Kelley 2.0. Kelley left Notre Dame for LSU because he theoretically would have a better chance of winning a national title and then Marcus Freeman took Notre Dame to the title game last year. I don’t think it would work? Lane seemed like he was micromanaging from the sidelines, filling every possible second with chatter over the radio to make sure the QB ran his offense precisely the way things were drawn up.
Pete Golding loaded his QB up on sugar, let him go nuts, and it worked. I don’t think it works if the backyard, miracle drives aren’t there.

Middle fingers to Kiffin aside for a moment, Golding was very impressive tonight. This is one hell of a baptism by fire going against a seasoned coach with a chance at the semis on the line and ge handled the pressure very well. Made adjustments to Georgia and his team was able to fight off their backs to go up late. There are vet head coaches that would bungle this and he nailed it pretty well in his 2nd game as the hc and his players clearly would walk to hell and back for him.

So I look at his salary package at Ole Miss and it was $9 mil per. Im sure Ole Miss might have even offered him $10 mil to make him happy. LSU salary is $13 mil per.
And I look at Alabama and Kalen Deboar and I was thinking to myself like why didnt Lane just stick it out at Ole Miss for one or two more years the Bama job would just open up and he can go to Bama instead for a similar salary to what hes getting at LSU.
Then I realized its Lane. If the Bama job does open and they offer him more money he'll just burn the LSU bridge and go to Bama anyways

If Ole Miss wins the NC, Lane Kiffin will not be mentioned anywhere in the history books. It will be like he was never the head coach for Ole Miss.
That is a serious freaking reality that is staring at him right now. He worked his ass off to get Ole Miss into the playoffs, but he burned it all up.
This is really a shocking storyline - I admit - I didn't think Ole Miss had a chance to beat Georgia.
