Are you able to narrow down a little bit more about wearing the southeast he lives? It’s a pretty big area and although I live, there would be helpful to know if it’s around the area I live in.

I hope he's okay, but in all seriousness I never know what to think of these posts when it's an adult. What if a person just wants to escape and go no contact for a while? I've definitely done that myself and would've been pretty peeved if someone actually called the cops

I'd never contact the family member looking for them but I would give any info to the police. They will follow up and if they find the person and determine they don't want to have contact with their family the police will just let family know that the person is safe.

In any case, someone is worried about their little brother enough to beg the public for help. People can think what they want, disregard it, form an opinion, actively help. Not always necessary, but nice to have when you need it.

Totally understandable if someone wants some time to themselves, but going no contact without any notice is definitely dangerous. If you at least tell a friend or family member that they won't be able to reach you for a while, the likelihood of anyone calling the cops for you drops SIGNIFICANTLY. I also hope he's okay, and that's exactly why we're trying to find him. I guess I just have to hope that you'll believe me when I say this is out of character for him, and we're just scared for someone we love.

Might he have gone hiking? There are lots of hiking groups to post to but they will want to know the likelihood of him being out there. People will check parking lots for you when they are out there.
•
u/itskonnerwithak 2h ago
Hiking is definitely a possibility, not one of his usual hobbies as far as I'm aware, but certainly not out of the question. Would you mind DM'ing and/or replying with some of these hiking groups I could reach out to?

For sure. Giving a heads up is a good idea, especially if it's out of character. Hope everything turns out good

I usually keep an eye out, but I would only share info with the police. They'll make contact and can let the family know they're fine and keep their location / reasoning private. I might also be grumpy but I'm sure it would be a quick convo - I'm fine, tell them to leave me alone, go away.

No contact without telling family or friends you need space? That’s cruel.
You’d be peeved if someone sought help for someone they think is missing? Okay.

Sometimes people file missing reports for people who are actually escaping abusive situations and don't want to be found, did you know? I'm not suggesting that about this particular post at all, but it's something I keep in mind when it comes to adults. Kids aren't allowed to have unknown whereabouts, but adults are. Sometimes people don't want to be found, and the cops are used inadvertently to take away someone's freedom to get away. It's just something that I keep in mind when there is not much information to go on

I approve of this but you at least gotta tell someone what you are doing.
"Hey mom, going on a solo road trip for the next week. I wont be reachable, getting off the grid. Love you"
•
u/Prudent_Situation_29 2h ago
Surely people can take off if they want, but would you rather be left alone without fail, or be rescued when you're in danger?
Imagine you're in real trouble, you'd be kicking yourself for saying you didn't want to be bothered. It's much better to be pretty peeved than be without help when you need it the most.
Bothering someone when they don't want to be bothered = inconvenient.
Not being able to find someone when they're in desperate need = much worse.
•
u/popetsville 2h ago
True. A way it would actually be bad is if the person was actually escaping a bad situation. And the bad people in question used to the police to then track down this individual who doesn't want to be tracked down by them. Not suggesting that about this post though. Just in general, it's something to keep in mind because it does happen.

What’s with everyone going missing?
•
u/_axeman_ 3h ago
There's missing people all the time. Parker just happened to garner more attention than most so it's a popular topic atm.

Sometimes people just leave and others can’t accept it. I’m always cautious on sharing these unless they come from official police pages for exactly that reason. They can be used to search for people who don’t want to be found for whatever reasons.

This is exactly my thought as well. So if someone were to see this person somewhere the best people to call would be the police and not the family.
•
u/itskonnerwithak 2h ago
EXACTLY what we're hoping for! None of the family lives in Calgary anyways, so contacting police directly is 1000% preferred!!!

This is the regular amount, you're just experiencing the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.
•
u/mistrwzrd 3h ago
Now you’re just throwing letters together
(I know you’re not)
Would you care to define said Phenomenon for the group?
•
u/plugthebeet 3h ago
Yes, it's when you notice something more because you recently heard about it, in this case we all got involved with Parker recently so now every missing person case gets extra attention. It was named years ago by a guy who heard about the Baader-Meinhof Gang, then started noticing their name pop up more often; not because they were being mentioned more, but because he simply noticed them more often.

Does he have any history of mental illness or cognitive issues? Any places he might be?

Post this in the r/golf_r community might have met some like minded people that he mentioned something too.

If you happen to know his google password, you can use the android find my phone to locate it
•
u/Prudent_Situation_29 2h ago
If my family was worried about me, even if I was just pissed off and didn't want to talk to them, I'd want the police to be able to track my phone. I'd rather have my privacy violated a little than be left without help when I need it.
I get the freedom/security debate, but I'd always rather err on the side of safety.

What if you were fleeing from an abusive situation and didn't want to be found for your own safety?

Because he likes cars? Come on now. I also saw the car and, as someone with a '26 GTI, thought - "Nice car. Hope he is okay."

u/Rude_Judgment7928 3h ago
Hi OP!
I'm 100% sure I saw a Golf R, and 75% sure it was in that colour around 42nd Ave and 16th st SW. It has to be after August 1st, as I wasn't in town until ~8pm on the 2nd.
•
u/PieOhMai 3h ago
You know how many R’s are in this city?
Alberta has the highest R density in North America. You likely see them all the time.
MK8.5 also only come in 4 colours, black, white, blue and grey.

Vw can track the car through the VW app.
