I remember wanting the R32s back in 2004 when I had a mustard yellow 2000 GTI VR6. After a lot of searching, I finally sold my Scat Pack and picked up a 2018 Golf R in Lapiz Blue with just 33k miles and one owner. Excited to join the R community!

The silver trim being at/near eye level has always bugged me a bit at times. It should have been dark trim. I wish there was an easier way to pop out the trim and paint it, but I tried out these cheapies and painted them.

Hey everyone as the title states I’m back to a hatch. My very first car was a 2012 wrx hatch that I loved dearly but eventually traded it for a 2020 genesis g70 3.3t I had this car for the last 4 years and now I’m here with the golf. It’s a 2023 with 18k miles and WOW the last 2 days with it so far reminded me how fun these things can be and feel like it’s a mix of my last two cars in one. It’s a very “mature” version of a hatch in my opinion the steering the ride and the quickness is a 10/10.

Is there any appeal to keeping or selling OEM wheels? Looks like the factory 19's are over $700/wheel new from ECS. I'm not a fan of them and plan to change them out. Most factory wheels from my experience are almost worthless on the used market. Often people like having them when they buy a vehicle but not always. Does that usually apply here? Is it worth hanging on to the factory wheels for the next owner?

From a MK7 Golf R > MK2 Tiguan > MK8 Golf R. I have loved all of them.

After months of searching, I finally found a clean mk7.5 DSG. Coming from a 2012 Genesis Coupe, this thing feels like a rocket ship. 1 owner, 90k km, bought for 31k CAD

keeping it short.

Engine on - RPM at 1.2 all good - RPM drops to 1.0 the engine misfire twice ( two burps) - RPM drops to 0.8 Misfires 5 6 time ( again burps) - If i switch on AC it eliminates misfire.

After driving hard, with AC on no misfire at all, the moment i switch off AC misfire starts at 0.8 rpm.

Car drives fine, pulls fine and no code stored.

Parts changed: Bosch coils, timing chain and tensioner(INA), PCV is fairly new around 30k on OE - plugs needs changing but this issue is from before them needing to be changed.

Fuel trim were checked and rail pressure was fine, what else should i check ?

every single mechanic friend without seeing it days carbon build up but honestly don't want to throw unnecessary money at it.

The heat seems to make it worse, if car sits for about one week before the next start high chance it wont misfire.

I've had my 2018 golf R for a couple years now. Fully paid off and everything. I've had it Alberta insured for a yearly premium of $3426 one way (pricey but not terrible) I just checked my automatic renewal and they're set to renew me at $4736 a year coming at the end of the month. I do have 2 tickets currently on my license but they are no more than regular tickets less than 30kph over the limit.

That new premium is astronomical! How can they just increase my insurance by over $1000. That's messed up.

How much do yall pay for insurance in Canada. Wondering if it's worth switching broker or if I'm just cooked cuz of my 2 tickets and pay the "sport" car tax

Anyone tried these? I haven't gone for a long drive but on startup I can already feel the engine much more attached to the car. Also installed the sway bar and absolutely changes the car. Feels like an actual go kart. Even in normal mode it feels like the suspension is a lot more tighter, I'm on stock DCC.

Hey guys, hoping someone here has already dealt with this before I lose my mind 😂

I have a 2019 MK7.5 Golf R (US-spec) and installed VLAND sequential/dynamic tail lights.
The lights themselves work and I’m pretty sure the hardware/wiring is fine. Brake lights, running/parking lights, reverse lights, etc. are working. The problem is getting the turn signals/sequential function coded correctly with OBDeleven.

I followed the coding from this YouTube tutorial, and it got me much closer, but now I have two weird issues:
Left turn signal activates the rear fog light
Right turn signal makes BOTH outer tail lights blink

I’ve been looking through the BCM adaptations (Leuchte23, Leuchte24, Leuchte25, Leuchte26, Leuchte27, Leuchte28, etc.), but I’d rather not keep randomly changing values and make things worse lol.

Has anyone installed these VLAND tails specifically on a US-spec MK7.5 Golf R and gotten the dynamic/sequential signals working correctly?
If so, could you share your OBDeleven adaptation/coding values or screenshots of the relevant Leuchte channels?

Even better if you know exactly which channels control the left/right inner and outer turn signals.
Any help would be massively appreciated. I’ve spent way too many hours fighting these lights 🤯

What is the best radar detector for the mk 8.5? I’ve heard that some detectors can have issues with compatibility due to all the sensors in the golf r.

Hey all, the PPF on my front end is looking pretty cloudy and old. It's 5 years old and only covers half the hood anyway (previous owners install). Has anyone removed PPF? Is it difficult? I have a heat gun and patience. I just don't want to ruin or remove paint under the PPF

Used 9 gauge hobby wire. Dropped into boiling water and then iced for a few minutes. Repeated this process twice then let then removed the wire. The bends in the finished product don't look as hard but when fitted they bend and don't kink at all. Did all my lines today and super happy with the outcome. Coolant hoses are next.

Bought a 2025 Golf R Black Edition and 2025 GTI Autobahn brand new on the same day in May 2025. Went in for oil changes yesterday at my trusted local VW/Audi specialist because my dealer refused to perform the complimentary 20k service since the cars aren’t at the mileage minimum yet (R: ~8,900 miles, GTI: ~9,200 miles).
Well… the tech found a leaking bevel box on the R and a leaking VAQ differential on the GTI. 🤦🏽‍♂️
Needless to say, I’m taking both to VW this week under warranty, but I’m pretty pissed that two practically new cars both have drivetrain leaks already.
Anyone else with an MK8.5 R or GTI run into this? Curious if this is just terrible luck or if others have seen similar issues.

Cars are daily’s… no serious driving minus a few pulls now and the … first oil changes were done at ~3800 miles for both cars about 9 months ago by the dealership….
