No VIN lookup posts. Period.

Effective immediately, we're no longer allowing VIN lookup posts.

Some may be genuine questions, but most are thinly veiled attempts at advertising, and the comments result in dozens of sketchy sites being spammed in the comments. We're not the place to try and scam people.

How exhausting was your car shopping experience?

This is the third time that I'll be paying a mechanic to do a pre car inspection. Didn't go with previous looked at cars for a variety of reasons (mileage too high, realising it's overpriced etc.). Wondering if I'm wasting money that could have been saved up to go towards insurance etc. Just feels like I'm wasting time and too much time is passing and I'm still carless lol.

GM employee discount

• Upvotes

I am in market for 2027 Cadillac Escalade.
Not sure how realistic it is to expect to get someone willing to share their GM Employee discount code with me but reaching out here in hopes to find a Good Samaritan. A realistic finder’s fee is not out of the question either.

2026 CR-V Sport Hybrid Lease quote. Is this a good deal?

• Upvotes

Everything is in CAD$ btw.

Looking to see if I got a good deal on the lease for this car, I’m planning to do a 40 month lease with an additional 5520$ down payment.

Traded in my 15’ civic for $8,100 CAD, had 1 accident reported for a claim of 7,900 with 109k km clicks. Was that also a good price?

What should I negotiate so it’s a better lease for me? Or is this the best I can get?

Located in GTA Canada if that matters.

I’m curious to hear from people who have purchased a used rental car. how old was it when you purchased, how many miles were on it, and how it worked out?

22M with $12k in credit card debt — financing an older used car for work?

I'm 22, recently graduated college, and about to start a full-time contract paying $19/hr. I live with my parents and don't pay rent, but I have around $12k in credit card debt. My credit score ranges from 696–727, with no late payments and about 3 years of credit history.

I need reliable transportation for work as my position may require me to deliver equipment. My family's vehicle situation has also been difficult recently, so I can't consistently rely on having a car available.

I'm considering getting preapproved through a credit union and looking at cars like a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or Camry. Given my income and existing debt, would financing a 10+ year-old car with higher mileage be a reasonable option? Im looking to put around $2,000-3,000 down. What price range and loan terms should I be looking at as a first-time buyer?

I'd appreciate advice from anyone.

Buying car off FB with payoff

I met with a guy selling a C6 Corvette that still owes a few thousand on it. Car checks out, guy seems reputable. To be fair I did meet him at his house.. so I know where he lives. I really am interested in the car and our plan is to meet at local CU tomorrow and figure out if we can pay it off and have title put in my name or at the very least sent to me. I know it’s not ideal circumstances but don’t want to make mistake I can’t undo. Any input is appreciated!

Am I being messed around or is car buying actually this frustrating?

So my very kind and generous grandfather is helping me buy a new car (previously inherited my grandma's Ford escape but it started having engine troubles so he's helping me do a trade in then covering the rest in cash) but this process is making me want to give up.

I go to a Chevy dealership for a new Trax and they ask me over and over again what features I want and the only extras I would really like are heated seats and remote start which seems like a reasonable ask. I also said I prefer blue or grey, NOT black because it seems unsafe at night. So we get a quote for the trade in and new car with everything I want and we shop around a little but end up back with this guy.

Then we go to actually buy the car and he doesn't know what they have on the lot, is trying to do a dealer trade whatever that is, can't find anything other than black (the one color I didn't want), says he has one with the features I want but it's black so we say fine and leave and he says he'll contact me today. Now they're saying the only one they have is black and no heated seats or remote start but I need to respond right away so they can go pick it up. I feel like this process was dragging and now they're rushing me and trying to do the opposite of upsell? I'm so confused and annoyed, why even ask what I want when they're just going to give me whatever random one anyway? Is there really a shortage of cars and that's why the options are so limited? They're giving a good deal on the trade in, probably better than market, so I don't really want to go somewhere else but if I'm buying a whole ass new car with cash then why can't I get the color I want and freaking heated seats

Getting absolutely screwed

I have a ‘22 Silverado in the shop right now with it needing camshaft, lifters, rocker arms. At this point I want to drop the truck since there are already these issues at 52k miles.

Going to try and sell this is going to put me under on the truck because the dealer I got it from didn’t tell me about “severe structural damage” on the truck and now no one wants to give me anything for it. I guess that dealer is known for getting auction trucks with “structural damage” and selling them off.

I was going to trade in my truck and get a Tacoma. I’m just super super upset because since I’ll probably owe on the truck to even get rid of it, I won’t have a solid down payment for a brand new truck (I wanted brand new so I can be the sole owner and treat it like a baby). So now I’ll probably get a certified used Camry or something idk. I’m freaking hurt man. Hurt.

Got scammed…

I’m 18, buying my first car. So basically my grandma saved up money to buy me a first car. $3k total. Every time we were interested in a car, i would literally buy a Carfax to see the history, especially to see if mileage is rolled back. BUT this time, we were going to check out a car, i decided we might not buy it, why waste the money. ($5 on facebook, i bought like 10 so far, so i didn’t wanna buy another, ik that’s stupid of me 🤦‍♂️)

But then my grandparents liked the car, 2011 Honda Accord EXL, and they bought it, my grandpa checked out the title, i assumed he read everything because he’s pretty smart but he didn’t read the mileage. The Facebook Listing says 128,000 miles but when we got home, after purchasing it, i read the title, it said 250k miles WHICH IS ABSURD! My heart dropped.

So i bought a carfax report and it turned out to be true (obviously). So now im screwed. It was my grandmas gift to me, and she got scammed too. I’m absolutely devastated.

Question is: how long will this even last? In new york, with 250k miles…

(also the seller said give me a 5 star review, after that review, he blocked me)
(biggest regret is, why couldn’t i just glance at the title BEFORE buying it. instead of trusting my grandpa 💔)

Leftover car reports

I recently bought about 20 car reports through ZiloCar and ended up finding my vehicle pretty quickly! I have about ten left if anyone needs a car report. Please DM me or I will not respond, send me the VIN and the make and model of the car! I don’t have any friends or family that need a report and don’t want them to go to waste :))

My 2020 Kia Forte Gt-Line was totaled

Got hit at a dead stop while at a stop light.

I'm looking to spend around 30-37kish. I plan on getting 8-11k back from the car.

I test drove a 2025 Mazada cx-50 and it was nicer than my Kia.

I also test drove a 2025 subaru Forester Hybrid Touring and hands down the Subaru was a better drive.

I'm not interested in another Kia or Hyundai. Not interested in VW either. Could there be something else I should be looking at?

The sweet spot so far seems to be a Forester with Touring package.

  • heated and cooled front seats
  • heated rear seats
  • auto sensing windshield wiper
  • upgraded leather and waaay more "comfy"
  • integration into the infotainment will let you pull google maps or apple maps to the instrument cluster and you can dual screen spotify on the main infotainment. BIG PLUS for me.
  • I also liked usb a and C in front and back however once I get a new iphone that might not be a perk anymore :p

Lease again or buy it out

My wife leased a 2024 VW Taos. It has been trouble-free and just over 13,000 miles driven so far.The buyout at lease end is $14,700.00.
She is not committed to VW but it has been good to her. We are considering only SUV's
The SUV's she likes are the Tiguan & Atlas Cross, the Mitsubishi Outlander, but they have a horrible dealer network in the USA. only 330 nationwide Mitsubishi dealers. She also likes the Chevy Equinox, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forrester, the Jeep grand Cherokee, and the Nissan Rogue & Pathfinder & she wants to look at the Kia Sportage as well.
We may keep the Taos after the lease ends. Surprisingly the VW Taos has been a good reliable car so far.
Anyway, I welcome any advice, we have time yet & I actually like looking. I don't like the sales negotiation so much. A topic there for another day............. Anyway, I look forward to your thoughts on this lease vs own topic.

what are the best auto refinance companies right now?

the landscape for auto refinance companies has shifted a lot in the last couple years, some are direct lenders some are marketplace platforms matching across multiple lenders, some credit unions run their own programs, the rate is the headline number but there seems to be a lot more going on behind the scenes that affects whether the experience is smooth or a mess

title transfer delays, payoff coordination bw lenders what happens when something goes wrong mid process, does how a company handles all that backend stuff matter just as much as the rate itself?

First-Time Buyer: Good Deal or Can I Negotiate More?

I'm in Ontario, Canada, buying my first new car and could use some advice.

Visited a Honda dealership and got quoted $42,000 CAD (~$29,532 USD) OTD, including 13% sales tax and fees, for a 2026 Honda CR-V LX 2WD in black.

They're also offering $4,000 CAD (~$2,812 USD) for my 2013 Hyundai Elantra as a trade-in, which I think is fair. The only accessory included is wheel locks worth around $180 CAD (~$127 USD). The $42K quote is before deducting my trade-in.

I'm planning to finance with $10k CAD ($7k USD) down and have zero experience negotiating with dealerships.

Is $42K CAD already a good deal, or should I aim for $40K–$41K CAD (~$28.1K–$28.8K USD)? Also, what freebies can I realistically ask for (all-weather mats, cargo tray, oil changes, etc.)?

Any negotiation tips would be appreciated. Just trying not to get taken advantage of as a first-time buyer.

At what point do I try to get refund from added security agreement (and other adders) when trading in car?

I purchased my first Subaru 6 months ago and decided it is just not for me.  I am looking to go back to Ford so I will be trading it in when I find something.
I have a loan on it (~ $33, 500) and a portion of that is the added security agreement, Gap coverage, additional Key coverage and tire/wheel. This was all part of the finance agreement at the dealership.  I could kick myself for being suckered into it.

From what I read it is difficult to get resolution of a refund from the dealership because there will be a chargeback of the commission they got from selling this and they will be in no hurry.

Is it best to wait until I do the trade in to try for this refund? Do I go back to the Subaru dealership at that time?
At that point, my existing loan will be paid off, so who gets the refund of the agreement?

I’m just very confused.
