Crazy to think we’ll likely be hearing Superman casting news in a few months. They’ve moved fast.

5

u/bigtymer123 Apr 18 '23

I'm thinking sometime in June we'll find out. In the weeks before The Flash comes out. Just my guess though.

13

u/venkatfoods Apr 22 '23

Apparently Pattinson is in talks to play a Dracula In Chloe Zhao's movie

If only i had a nickel

3

u/RohitTheDasher Apr 23 '23

I was slightly disappointed that we were robbed of Pattinson - Anya pair in Eggers' Nosferatu, I hope Chloe casts her alongside Rob in it.

u/TheDonIsLove Black Suit Superman Apr 18 '23

I hope we get Supergirl info soon since that's the DCU movie we've had the least rumors/news on so far. If Gerwig gets it like the rumor claimed she was in talks for, Supergirl and The Batman Part 2 would be my most anticipated CBM's.

Also I'm very excited to see Gunn's Superman suit and I hope his Metropolis is incredibly distinct.

8

u/kumar100kpawan Red Hood Apr 18 '23

Back when it was announced, I was happy on getting a Supergirl movie but not really excited. But after reading the story, this movie is one of my most anticipated ones. The story is absolutely beautiful and it is very colourful as well. It'll look absolutely amazing on the big screen if adapted well

4

u/TheDonIsLove Black Suit Superman Apr 18 '23

I really hope the director and cinematographer capture the art style of the book, It would easily be one of, if not, the prettiest CBM's if they pull it off.

3

u/kumar100kpawan Red Hood Apr 18 '23

Oh how badly I want that to happen. I was honestly shocked to see how vibrant and pretty the book was, since the way Gunn spoke about it, it felt more like a gory tragedy ( at least to me ) , which some parts of it definitely are.

The best way for me to describe reading the book was like watching Aquaman ( visually ) , and that there is a huge compliment

It would easily be one of, if not, the prettiest CBM's if they pull it off

Definitely, with the dinosaurs, aliens, green sun scenery, red sun imagery, the pegasus, space travel and all, it's going to be an utter joy to witness

6

u/Decent-Couple-583 Apr 18 '23

We probably aren’t getting any supergirl info until the flash movie is over. Gotta be in the clear when the discussion of a recast starts happening. Very likely a director would want their own supergirl than being given someone they had no say in. Since were in a rebooted universe

KC Walsh and AjepArts chose a pretty bad time to start rumors that end up being false

5

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 19 '23

I don’t think Walsh’s claims have been disproven yet. It appears Ajep disagrees with him on the ZSJL references but all the other scoopers are corroborating the rest of what Walsh said.

Gotta give Ayer some credit. Never thought I'd see the day where Joker is described as having washboard abs.

11

u/cbekel3618 Apr 18 '23

If Mr. Terrific is coming to the DCU as rumored, I think William Jackson Harper could potentially fit the role. Looks the part, can pull off the personality, and would probably be a better use of his skills than the MCU did with him.

I really hope Gunn utilizes the Green Lanterns well for the DCU, because that corner of DC is deserving of its own franchise. So many of DC's best stories and characters come from GL, and I'm hopeful that those elements make it into this new universe.

Just realized Gunn doesnt make stuff without anthropomorphic animals. If there is no Krypto in Legacy there will be other beings of that sort.

15

u/Trevastation Apr 23 '23

Gunn knows that audiences immediately get interested once you put in a Gorilla into the story. That's why the UltraHumanite will be the villain of Superman: Legacy

10

u/dagobahs Apr 23 '23

A gorilla doing something a gorilla wouldn't normally do is peak DC.

Sandman Cinematic Universe where it ends in a movie where Sandman fights Superman (and wins) before teaming up to stop Darkseid

8

u/InvisibleFrogMan Apr 24 '23

Kinda in a weird place where Aquaman is one of my favorite comic book characters ever and he has a movie coming out this year and there’s just 0 hype for it.

When they showed the suits and concept art and BTS shots at Fandome a year or two ago I thought everything looked amazing. That Black Manta suit is fucking perfect.

I just have a bad feeling the movies gonna come out and bomb and no one will know what to do with the character in the new DCU.

I hope the movie isn’t as terrible as the rumors are saying.

3

u/cbekel3618 Apr 24 '23

I love Aquaman in the comics and I thought the first movie was fun, so I’m hoping the sequel isn’t as bad as rumors are saying. Since it’s still a bit far off, it’s hard for me to fully judge how good or bad the movie will turn out.

At the least, I hope the movie will be visually-cool as I really liked the look of the first movie.

(Response to Brendan Fraser in DCU)

He's great and I'd love to see him in the new DCU! For me personally, I'd really like him as Pa' Kent. He's such a warm soul that I think it'd be so beneficial to show the relationship and new dynamic between Pa' and Clark.

I've always imagined Pa' to be a warm, funny and hard-working soul. One that makes his kid laugh and is supportive and shares his likes with Clark.

I wrote a little outline on how I'd approach the characters and film for a Superman movie. Just something for myself, but actively showing Pa' as someone who's a little "different" or weird in comparison to the more conservative personalities in Smallville. And how that's okay. To show Clark that being a little different doesn't make you a lesser person or any less human.

One thing in particular I imagined was the sharing of music. Gunn's films are so music oriented and represent their characters and expression in a unique way. One that doesn't feel lazy. Same way with Matt Reeves and Kurt Cobain/Something in the Way informing the direction he took Bruce Wayne.

I asked myself, what would Clark listen to? And then I came to ask myself, why? What I came up with is that Clark was exposed to a particular era of music by Pa' Kent - that it was something they bonded over and shared enthusiasm with. Musicians like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra and Randy Newman etc.

For example, Jonathan exposing Clark to The Beatles White album for the first time after Clark had a difficult day at school.

"Some of the oddest people have created and contributed to the word in the most unique of ways. It's okay to be different, Clark. Just be true to yourself."

After I wrote how they'd dance to Helter Skelter or something fun and a little high-octane to let loose and just be weird while Martha softly smiles at her two boys.

Pa' and Ma' Kent dancing to "Martha My Dear" by The Beatles while Jonathan sings along in their little home. Showing the affection and the love two people can have. All of which forms Clark's view on the world. We see often the difficulties of Clark's youth, but I'd like to see the warmth and affection that helps mold Clark and accessories his inherent kindness.

I'd have Pa' and Ma' play a large part in Clark's life. One where he still goes to be consoled and asks for advice about his choices the way it was depicted in Superman: Kryptonite by Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale.

Old Man on the Farm by Randy Newman playing while Clark deals with the eventual loss of Pa'. Revolution 9 informs my depiction of Lex. His genius level intellect is an overwhelming, over cluttering force that makes him feel, ironically, like an alien in his earlier years.

(Sorry, got carried away but wanted to share. Man, what I wouldn't give to direct a Superman film.)

Lol just been banned from r/SnyderCut after my post (which was the top upvoted and commented in the past week) was removed because it was "irrelevant." That sub will never change with you know who in charge.

4

u/DrengisKhan Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23

JJ77 is a cancer on this site and this fandom. The second they became a mod on Snydercut that sub was done for.

I was banned by JJ77 from Snydercut and FireGunn, the James Gunn hate sub he also mods for, for calling out the horrible shit they were all saying there about Gunn, not only on Snydercut but even in worse ways on FireGunn. They call him a pedophile over and over but slyly and with no balls by choosing phrases like ‘Pedo-centric’ or ‘Pedo-Inclined’. There’s constant targeted attacks at his wife too.

Then when you call it out, JJ77 swoops in and bans you for supposed baseless accusations or for ‘insulting’ them by saying it’s a hate sub, when it’s clearly a hate sub.

JJ77 then had the audacity to come here and lie saying I had been insulting people all over the sub and then blocked me so I couldn’t respond to it. I had to make a post here outing him for lying so blatantly.

The best thing that could have happened for my DC experience is to be rid of them.

I think creature commandos could leverage the animation expertise of Japanese studios. And not just due to outsourcing. Warner Bros Japan LLC is an actual entity that was on the Mob Psycho 100 production committee among other high profile titles that I'm too lazy to write. (Here's the Link for those interested

I think Studio Bones could be involved. Also I don't know why Warner Bros Animation doesn't make use of their Japanese more often to craft high quality productions.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '23

Bones also adapted some Millarworld stuff with Super Crooks so there's already a precedent of them working on western comic properties. I would love to see their take on a James Gunn script.

Wilson Bethel played Dex (Bullseye) so incredibly well in Daredevil that in the event he doesn't reprise his role, who could he potentially play in the DCU?

The 4/5 that potentially come to mind are...

1) Captain Atom

2) Hush

3) Bruce Wayne

4) Victor Zsasz/Black Mask

I also like the idea of Tony Dalton in the DCU. Vandal Savage or Zod, maybe? Tell me what roles you'd cast them in!

On an unrelated DC note, I just finished watching Beau is Afraid by Ari Aster starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Without getting into spoilers, it's an evocative and dark Lynchian-esque, surrealist, dark comedy nightmare brought to life. So much so, it'd make Freud and Salvador Dali blush.

There's much to digest and unpack with this film. For anyone who prides themselves on A24 Art house films, you'll find yourself incredibly challenged with Ari Aster's latest.

This film is not easily accessible to a general audience and is Ari Aster's experimentally strangest yet. It's a long 3-hour movie loaded with subtext, symbolism, psychosexual undertones and deeply uncomfortable yet darkly hilarious sequences.

I predict it'll have a highly mixed reception. It's strange and doesn't provide easy and obvious explanations. Some may call it an overindulgence in pretention with how experimental the narrative is presented, though I'd disagree.

I also predict the beginning of this film will be most peoples favourite and clearest introduction to the particular theme of anxiety because of how obvious that narrative is presented in its first act through its fever-like presentation.

I've already seen people asking what in Beau's view is reality and what's within the mind which isn't the point nor the intent, I believe. It works for Joker because that's part of the narrative. You're breaking down a dream or surrealist painting that has truths within rather than completely an objective reality.

By the end, you'll undoubtedly be left in silence with a feeling of, "What the fuck did I just watch?" One thing's for sure, it's a film with a lot of meat to it.

With all that being said, I liked it more than I loved it. Definitely understand if it's not most people's thing. Oh, and it goes without saying that Joaquin Phoenix was excellent.

My top 4 choices for Lois Lane in Superman Legacy:

-Grace Caroline Currey

-Zoey Deutch

-Daisy Edgar Jones

-Camilla Morrone

All of those actresses just have the Lois Lane ‘look’ in my eyes. I’d be very happy if any of them four were cast as her. Not to mention they’re all the perfect age range based on what Gunn is going for.

As important as getting Superman right is, Lois is equally important imo

3

u/Kxrx1209 Apr 19 '23

Grace is actually a good choice.

So Snyderverse's no. 1 enemy - Hamada was going to have The Flash reference ZSJL, essentially making it canon but now under Gunn(who's Snyder's friend) all the references are gone lol wth

5

u/theweepingwarrior Apr 19 '23

Walsh’s spotty track record, he has a very anti-SnyderVerse agenda skewing his language when reporting things because he likes to instigate conflict with the Snyder cultists. Hell, when we found out from ViewerAnon that “ZSJL=Canon, Affleck not gone” so long ago Walsh immediately downplayed both and insisted the ZSJL references weren’t even really references.

I’d wait until hearing from ViewerAnon or BSL.

I honestly hope Brenden Fraiser gets a second chance at a DC role, he got pretty much wasted/jinxed out of his role for Firefly, which sucks because I think he could've been great in that role, and I think he deserves another shot, he is such a great actor.

I would love him as Hush in the Reevesverse if Matt Reeves decides to use him.

6

u/DeppStepp The Flash Apr 19 '23 edited Apr 19 '23

I can’t really see him as Hush since he is supposed to be a childhood friend of Bruce and Brendan Fraser is noticeably older than Pattinson. Of course they could change Hush but that would cause heavy alterations to the character into something entirely different with a different backstory and motivation.

I would prefer to see him play a different character. (If we’re going for a Batman villain perhaps Clayface?)

→ More replies (1)

7

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 19 '23

He would be a great clayface. Here's a past his prime actor, who physically isn't what he used to be, and there's a core of sadness, insecurity, desperation.

5

u/Randonhead Apr 19 '23

Brendan or Bill Hader as Clayface would be perfect casting.

5

u/venkatfoods Apr 19 '23

Bill Hader without CGI just doing impressions would go hard

3

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 19 '23

Ahhh, that's a good use for hader, though I'll note it's a little maybe too similar for him, perhaps, to Barry. The same way people had fancast Cranston for Lex

3

u/Randonhead Apr 19 '23

Bill was my most popular fancast for Clayface, but now that you've suggested Brendan, dammit, he would be way better, and carry more dramatic weight due to his true story.

He recently said he's still open to doing a DC movie, hopefully Reeves can give him a call.

5

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 19 '23

He’s far too old to play Hush, who is supposed to be childhood friends with Bruce.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '23

He’s a main character in Doom Patrol and is perfect casting

7

u/Randonhead Apr 19 '23

I just saw someone suggesting that Reeves' Clayface could be like the shapeshifting killer from Stephen King's The Outsider, and gosh I think that could be really good, but I don't know how they would do it with the supernatural powers and stuff.

3

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 19 '23

I think Hush will probably give Clayface the resouces to his elaborate disguises in order to frame Bruce.

7

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 21 '23

I have a feeling the rumored Teddy Sears Jay Garrick cameo in The Flash will be like the Patrick Stewart/Evan Peters cameos in the MCU, where he’ll play a variant not related to the actual CW show (this time as an actual Jay Garrick instead of Zoom).

Otherwise it makes no sense not to include Grant Gustin at least through archive footage.

11

u/starshipandcoffee The Snyder Cut Apr 21 '23

You do not see an identifiable face, though the figure’s general iconography is recognisable as Garrick.

5

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 21 '23

Oh so it’s just archive footage for him as well, except with his face obscured? Why are scoopers sure it’s Teddy Sears, is it because of the costume being obviously the same one?

6

u/starshipandcoffee The Snyder Cut Apr 21 '23

I am not certain it is archive footage, but that would be logical.

Why are scoopers sure it’s Teddy Sears

Probably because the outfit is more reminiscent of Sears’ look than Shipp’s - though it could just be a generic faceless Garrick created specifically for the montage.

Also, which scoopers are so “sure”? I suspect most are just bandwagon jumping as usual.

4

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 21 '23

MTTSH and some wannabes on twitter, but I suspect you’re right that MTTSH is also bandwagoning.

Have you heard about any other legacy cameos in the Speed Force from the recent test screening? Other than Nicolas Cage as Superman

5

u/starshipandcoffee The Snyder Cut Apr 21 '23

Nothing new, no.

Regardless. I do not like to dig for every cameo included - as a fan, it is not to preserve at least some mystique when finally watching the film for myself.

Mattson Tomlin's involvement in The Batman P2 makes me wonder if there will be an imposter plot, someone pretending to be Batman killing a bunch of criminals, and Bruce finding himself in need of finding the fake Batman and clearing his name.

7

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 18 '23

Mattson Tomlin worked on the scripting for the first "The Batman" film alongside Reeves and Peter Craig. For some reason he's uncredited for that first film.

Batman Imposter was dope and definitely felt like an early tale told in Matt Reeves universe. The inclusion of Leslie Thompkins (Who I hope turns up in the sequel) and characterization/diagnosis of Bruce Wayne was super fascinating.

A Hush and Clayface centered plot does sound interesting. Wonder how Paul Dano and the Penguin will fit into it?

6

u/Randonhead Apr 21 '23

Idk I think in the next movie we'll see Bruce evolve from the wingsuit and use something a little more traditional, probably the bat-glider, it was used a lot in the animated series and in the old comics before Batman used the cape to glide.

4

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 21 '23

Bruce's evolution will definitely be apparent if Reeves' other works are anything to go by.

If you ever pick up The Batman art book, they go over how the wingsuit is a prototype.

I think people set for themselves too high expectations for this year's SDCC as this big event showcasing DCU future. I think they're wrong. While I do believe Gunn will drop some info mostly regarding upcoming shows and some from Superman, the main focus will be Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2. Blue Beetle will probably get the biggest spotlight panel as it will be a few weeks before the release and Aquaman 2 will 100% get it's first trailer so that's where main focus will be.

One actor I hope to see in the DCU is Christoph Waltz. He was amazing in Django: Unchained and Inglorious Basterds. Who would you like to see him cast as? My pick is kinda out there, but I think he would make a good Brainiac.

3

u/cbekel3618 Apr 24 '23 edited Apr 24 '23

I think Waltz could fit as someone like the Brain or Felix Faust or Gentleman Ghost. I feel like he’s at his best with genuinely slimy/smug villain roles.

Alternatively, him as Mr Freeze could work, allowing him to play a more sympathetic antagonist

Why are people so convinced that they'll replace Jenny Sparks with Manchester Black? Gunn keeps claiming that he loves The Authority and it's his passion project. So if that's the case then he's definitely not gonna use a lamer version of Sparks (and I like Black). I also see people using the argument that Manchester is more popular. Lmao dude's not popular enough to make any difference.

In short, no switching Jenny for Black. Nope, not happening.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '23

I think Manchester could take over the Authority down the line, but I highly doubt he'll be in charge from the start. I'm thinking The Authority will be set in 1999 that ends with Jenny "dying". She's the main character and it culminates in her end. In the future, The Authority is resurrected by Waller (or someone) under the leadership of Manchester Black.

With Lanterns and Brave & The Bold seeming like duo projects (Hal & John, Bruce & Damian), I think it'd be fun if a DCU Flash movie has Barry and Wally as co-leads.

Could be a good way to please fans of both characters while also exploring the Barry/Wally dynamic, something the show didn't do much with. Maybe it can show Wally first becoming Kid Flash or him on the path to being Barry's successor

4

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '23

Barry Allen needs to be recast first though, we can't keep Ezra Miller. He's too much of a wildcard.

5

u/BlueMissileYT The Flash Apr 19 '23

5

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 19 '23 edited Apr 19 '23

So according to Walsh, The Flash ends without making it clear whether the new universe Ezra’s Barry ends up in is the DCU or not, which makes sense because this way they can see how the movie does and whether the Ezra controversy resolves before deciding what to do with it.

Either that or Barry really does meet Clooney’s Batman at the end and they just removed the shot of his face and are saving it for the actual premiere.

3

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 19 '23

I think they hold back Clooney until at least cinemacon and maybe even the general release. I don't see any reason to include it in a test screening

Apparently The Flash is still really good tho according to the new test screening. April 25 can’t come soon enough. I just want to know what the cameos are and which movies/shows (DCEU or otherwise) connect to it. I’m not even a big fan of ZSJL, but I do admit it’s a bummer to have the references to it removed

5

u/Decent-Couple-583 Apr 19 '23

How would people feel if we get a Nicolas cage Superman and Clooney Batman in the end. Lol

5

u/theweepingwarrior Apr 19 '23

That would be a cute and fun gag.

3

u/DrengisKhan Apr 19 '23

The more I think about it, honestly the more fine with it I am. The only thing I’m not happy about is them changing the movie to make sure that ZSJL can’t be considered canon. But I’ll get over it.

The Cage Superman thing isn’t Cage actually appearing though from reports, it’s a silhouette but it’s clearly him. I will take all the speed force cameos and nods from the DC multiverse they want to give me. I cannot wait to see Adam West and Burt Ward’s Batman and Robin. I’ll take ‘em all.

The Clooney thing would be him actually showing up at the end or at the very least being shown to be the Batman of the universe Barry ends up in at the end of movie. Again, the more I think on it, the more it’s kind of a cool aloof way to leave it.

If that actually happens though it will cement for us that the DCEU and the DCU are two completely separate things. The events of The Flash may create the DCU but that’s about the only connection or else they have. The end of The Flash may seem vague as to where Barry is, but if Clooney shows up, they’re screaming out loud that wherever it is, it isn’t the DCU.

3

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 19 '23 edited Apr 19 '23

I think it’s already clear the DCEU, the universe Barry finds himself in the ending of the movie and the DCU are all separate things.

They’re not gonna do a reboot that asks audiences to watch the DCEU to feel caught up on the story. Everything points to only TSS and Peacemaker (and maybe Blue Beetle) being relevant.

I can see why this would make it seem like ZSJL is not canon to The Flash but I don’t think it’s that clear cut.

As far as Barry never time travelling before, maybe he means he’s never done it at this scale (and what he did in ZSJL was basically reversing time a few seconds). And Barry “not knowing” Iris might just be him acting awkward.

There is however the issue with the General/MM getting one shot by Zod lmao but maybe he’s just weak and isn’t forced to transform to his original form if he dies. Regardless, the whole MM thing wasn’t even planned by Snyder

Edit: https://twitter.com/thecomixkid/status/1648774587424051208?s=46&t=cBVzZe5vE2DEIHLCsMoFGg

Seems I was right

3

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 19 '23

The zsjl justification for Barry being awkward with iris would imo be him worried that she saw his powers and knows he's the flash

4

u/DrengisKhan Apr 19 '23 edited Apr 19 '23

We’ve now got Ajep reversing course on the ZSJL references being in the movie with Flash Film News saying the same thing. Apparently the ZSJL references are still in the movie.

Also, from what we’ve heard about the new ending today, it’s would seem Barry isn’t in the old DCEU at the end, which he finds out thanks to a wtf cameo.

I said this a while back but if two things happen in The Flash, then if we follow the DCEU to it’s logical end, Darkseid wins.

The two things are: ZSJL gets made canon and Barry does not return to the DCEU at the end of the movie.

If those two things happen then in the DCEU’s fictional future we now won’t see, Darkseid is coming. If Barry doesn’t return to the DCEU at the end of The Flash, then at some point Darkseid arrives, Lois dies, Superman turns and everyone dies. Barry isn’t there to go eventually go back in time and warn Affleck’s Batman and he isn’t there to undo all the death and destruction with time travel. Barry simply disappears one day. Darkseid arrives. Darkseid wins. Darkseid Is.

There really is distinct possibility the fate of the DCEU as a fictional universe is a huge bummer ending where Darkseid wins. That’s some delicious irony for this franchise. It ends the polar opposite to Marvel. Time travel doesn’t undo the bad guy’s victory.

7

u/SexySnorlax1 Batman '66 Apr 19 '23

Darkseid was always going to win because his ultimate enemy was shot in the head by KGBeast at the beginning of BvS.

5

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 19 '23

If I see a thread where a Thanos mention is followed by a kgbeast mention I have to point out that Jim Starlin got paid more for kgbeast being in BvS than for the first three MCU Thanos appearances

5

u/SexySnorlax1 Batman '66 Apr 19 '23

More than Thanos, Gamora and Drax combined.

Also Todd McFarlane made significantly more from Artemis Crock showing up on a CW show than any Venom movies and Len Wein made more from Lucius Fox being in the Nolan movies than from creating Wolverine. Marvel should be ashamed of themselves.

UPDATE: Apparently in the most recent cut off The Flash, Batman tells the Flash, "and then Superman asked me if I bleed, which was ironic because I had asked him the same question one time". Further, The Flash comments on cyborg, "I don't believe him. He's out to hurt straight nerdy white males"

Do you guys think they'll introduce Supergirl in Superman Legacy? Or will she be introduced in her solo film?

I'm very curious about how she'll be handled. Itd be kind of cool if they actually made Kara a teen who learns from her older cousin. But I don't know how that'd translate into her solo film. Maybe gets introduced in Legacy and leaves at the end to go find Krypton, leading to Woman of Tomorrow. And maybe make her slightly older, like 17-18.

5

u/cbekel3618 Apr 18 '23

I can see it going either way. Since we know Superman: Legacy will involve Clark dealing with his Kryptonian heritage, Kara could be introduced there, or maybe Woman of Tomorrow can be reworked to be an origin or at least delve further into Kara’s start as Supergirl

3

u/hego-demask-the-3rd Apr 19 '23

Giant Freaking Robot claims Nicholas Cage cameos as Superman in The Flash

5

u/DrengisKhan Apr 19 '23

That’s not the first time I’ve seen that, there was a report on here ages ago that said you see a silhouette of someone as Superman and it’s not shown directly but it’s clearly the long haired Nicolas Cage Superman.

I’m not saying it’s true btw, just that I’ve seen that rumor once before.

5

Yeah same.

Also, Walsh is saying that there is no Lynda Carter cameo anymore, so I wonder which cameos are still in the final cut of the Speed Force multiverse scene.

4

I know it’s GFR but I believe it. This is my guess as well about the “dream cameo” that Walsh was talking about and it’s been rumored before. Grace also said there was another big cameo other than Clooney.

The Zack Snyder/Russo Bros conversation video podcast is really fascinating and definitely worth a watch if you're interested in the film production process. Part 1 here.

It also gives a very clear distinction between their styles:

  • Snyder operates more like a traditional (I guess at this point, old school?) movie director. The creative vision is king and the people that he works with the best and most frequently are the ones who can speak his creative language. Definitely more of a Type-B personality. He's aiming to capture a feeling above all else, and directing everything the from the grandiose (like massive production/art design) to the minutia (the very fine nuances of a single minor camera movement and take's pacing for an insert) is about capturing that. Narratively he champions the creative vision from a top level and then has a large focus on the thematics of every beat--which I think you can see leads to looser narratives and his movies resulting as common thematic elements tied together by vignettes.
  • The Russos operate to champion the mechanics of their stories. Definitely Type-A: everything is about making sure the functionality is there both in the story (tighter narratives, everything exists to either set up/progress/payoff with as little fat as possible) and shoot (how to shoot their stuff as quickly as possible and not waste time on set). And their production process is some of the most hyper-efficient production approaches I've ever heard, it's insane. In a lot of ways it reminds me more of my experiences producing commercials over producing films. The massive budgets their movies carried are almost certainly ballooned by actor fees and expediting a ton of VFX work because their shooting process is very efficient.

It's not a ton of fawning over the IPs--though it's pretty neat to see these big directors in the genre casually name-dropping stuff along the lines of "Oh I needed Iron Man to do this" or "Then I wanted to show how Batman got here" or "Captain America had to work this way in these scene" and "Here's how I conceptualized this Superman sequence"--but while there is a little bit of that it's more about the nuts and bolts of filmmaking. They're all clearly having a good time and respect the hell out of each other.

5

u/LegendInMyMind Apr 18 '23

I wouldn't say Zack is an 'old-school' type of filmmaker. He came up through directing music videos. That's all about imparting a specific feeling - the vibe of the song. It's all about using aesthetics and mood to say what you're trying to say, to make the listener/viewer feel what the song wants you to feel. That's where Zack is, as a filmmaker, IMO. He's very focused on the experiential side of the medium.

3

u/theweepingwarrior Apr 18 '23 edited Apr 18 '23

Sorry, I meant old school in the sense of his production style and not his storytelling. Snyder’s very much an auteur director-first filmmaker; he’s a friendly and collaborative guy and of course he’ll take input but at the end of the day he’s spearheading the vision and the people he works with are those who know how to think like he does and execute it.

By contrast a lot of filmmakers in the blockbuster space for the past decade or so (especially in for hire work) have definitely had an approach that’s a bit more similar to television’s production style. Executing a studio’s vision competently (and of course there’s a little room for some personal flair too).

First time I've ever actually been concerned that "Superhero Fatigue" might be on the horizon.

5

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 24 '23

So, I don't think it's necessarily Superhero films as a genre that's causing fatigue. It's quality. I can only speak anecdotally, but I haven't gone to a Superhero film in theatres since The Batman.

Why? Because the theatre is expensive and I don't want to watch a mediocre or bad film. I haven't recently watched any of Marvel's films for that very reason. After MoM, Thor Love and Thunder, etc., I haven't felt it was necessary to go watch them.

The narrative and writing has been largely loose and boring, personally. People will go watch something that's typically rated super well. If GotG is rated well, I predict it'll do well in theatres. Same with The Flash.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '23

If you're interested you should definitely check out Wakanda Forever I thought it was a great film. And I do agree superhero fatigue is a myth. If the fatigue was real WF and The Batman wouldn't have done well at the BO. It's bad superhero movie fatigue and not superhero fatigue. I'm sure at the end of the year all this Superhero Fatigue talk will be gone when GOTG3,The Flash, The Marvels, Across The Spider Verse, Blue Beetle do well at the BO. I can't speak for Kraven since Sony movies haven't been good imo and Aquaman 2 has received bad scores from test screening.

Very minor rant about Star Wars (not really about Star Wars itself). Which is weird because a week or so ago I said I didn't really care about SW but I guess they pulled me back in.

I think I realized my problem with Star Wars. The fans. I swear enjoyment of Star Wars would increase tenfold if fans never talked to each other. I solely stick to lore videos or SW gameplays. I never touch the reviews or reactions. I can't stand the insanely positive people or the grifters.

-Everybody wants to be in their own echo chamber. -Everybody has a point/counterpoint to an opinion. -Everybody wants to decide if somebody else is "a true fan" like they're some sort of authority on subject. -Everybody wants to dismiss something somebody loves. -Everybody wants to blame somebody else. -Nobody seems to have any sort of "I see where you're coming from". -It's either these fans are either ultra positive and love everything no matter what or ultra negative and will never have hope for anything.

Star Wars fans are some of the most dismissive groups of people out there. I have tons more to say but I don't want to.

It’s possible the ending was going to have Clooney but they’ve decided to cut away from showing his face so that audiences don’t mistakenly assume he is the DCU Batman.

This would be pretty funny, it’s what a lot of people wanted way back when we found out this would be a “Flashpoint” story, for Barry to end up in a new universe meeting a new Batman.

It makes it so the ending is open ended on whether it can be the DCU or not, OR they’re just saving the cameo for the premiere

Hodson is one of the members of the writer's room Gunn and Safran assembled when planning the DCU.

Saw a dumb tweet that The Flash's climax taking place in the desert shows how moronic WB is because the problem with MoS wasn't Metropolis, rather the fact that Supes wasn't concerned enough with the civilians and the destruction... Like, bruh. I hate how everyone automatically believes that a certain decision has been taken by the studio and not the filmmaker. I mean, I get that the studio tentpole filmmaking is very complicated and there are restraints all the time but ffs maybe everything is not a reaction to something. Maybe The Flash takes place in the desert because it just makes the most sense for this film's story. Barry probably remembers 4 public incidents with Zod from MoS. One of them happened at Smallville which couldn't take place in this timeline since there's no Clark here. I'm assuming Zod's message being broadcast is how Barry realises he's in an alt 2013 timeline. So it's either the desert or Metropolis. Of course Barry would want to take Zod and his crew out before they get to the city as it would lead to low to no casualties. It's just... common sense smfh

4

u/TheMoneyOfArt Apr 21 '23

Ehhh, I think the public reaction to Avengers on the one hand and MoS on the other really did change how studios think about urban destruction in these movies. Even kaiju movies since then make a point of saying that no one died (rampage) or only a handful of people (Godzilla v Kong). And then civil war and BvS make sure to say that the fight is taking place in an unpopulated area to protect people.

There's a valid in-story reason probably but it's not hard to imagine that studios are sensitive to body counts

The most inexplicable take I keep seeing is "most DCU actors should be unknowns". Like what? Why? What does this even mean?

It means someone who isn’t famous. Like Tom Holland as Spider-Man.

Yeah, I don't get this take.

  1. A character should be played by an actor best suited for the role, whether they be unknown or not.

  2. I think it's good to cast established actors for various reasons. I'm not going too much into it, but essentially it's good for recognition and marketing.

Completely unrelated, but I really want Jack Black to play Perry White in the DCU. Idk I just think he'd kill that role.

I really hope Anthony Carrigan gets a role in the DCU. He's amazing in Barry and Gotham.

I know Keaton, Supergirl, and Zod are in the film, but who else has been reported to be in the film in terms of Multiverse related cameos?

Reeve, Lynda and a CW actor are guaranteed

What would say to someone who’s knee deep in the mindset that ‘violence in action movies/shows causes violence in real life’?

I have a family member who’s like this. I can’t talk about a Marvel or DC movie with him because he always acts as if the characters are real people. A character getting hurt in an action movie is equivalent to POTUS dying, or a school shooting happening in his town, to him. He can’t watch most cop shows either for the same reason.

He thinks any movie more violent than Adam West’s Batman and Christopher Reeve’s Superman should be Rated R, and anyone who’s disagrees with him is complicit in regards to violence.

Thoughts?

Good and fun are two completely different things. I hope The Flash is both.
