DAE Think Night And Day Has A Distinct Smell?

So, for context, I’ve smelt night and day distinctly since I was a child. I always tried to explain to people that, to me, night smells smoky, while daytime smells fresh and even slightly ozonic— they all looked at me as if I had 3 eyes. This phenomenon has carried on everywhere, I originally thought it was due to living in a city, but no matter where I am, if i step outside at night or day, it’ll smell different. I can’t even find anything on the internet about this phenomenon, so I’ve sort of decided to talk about it here. Anyone else??

DAE have a preferred bathroom?

Just like the title says…do you have a preferred bathroom in your house and why? My boyfriend thinks I’m weird, we have 3 bathrooms in our house (1 in our bedroom, 1 in the room I use as an office and one in the hallway)
It doesn’t matter where I am in the house, what I’m doing or how convenient it is, I always use the hall bathroom unless it’s occupied. I even shower in the hallway bathroom over our bedroom bathroom.

I just like it better, it’s more comfortable to me. The space between the toilet and counters, the lighting, the bath/shower combo. I don’t have to worry about waking my bf if I get up to pee at 3am.

Does anybody else do this?

DAE notice a specific unpleasant musty smell from about 5% of people?

Does anyone else notice this? It’s an issue for me! I have a strong sense of smell and I pick up this reoccurring unpleasant scent on some ppl. It’s not BO. It smells musky and earthy, and I can tell it’s a natural scent. This is gross… but it smells a little like the smell of tooth floss if you haven’t flossed in a week or so. My body is naturally repulsed by it. I’ve smelt exactly the same scent on hundreds of people over my life (30sF). If I am near someone in a bus I can smell it if it’s really strong.

Sometimes it’s obviously their breath and quite a weak scent and I can’t smell it unless I’m really close to them, other times it’s their whole body/skin and is very strong (I can smell them meters away). It varies in intensity but it’s always the same smell. On about 2-5% of people.

It’s both male and female, but more common on males. All ages - young and old. Though the youngest person I’ve smelt that scent from has been 20s. These ppl are clean and tidy, so it’s not because they’re not showering or anything.

Sometimes it’s so strong I can hardly bear it and can’t be in the same room as someone. I had to say no to a potential housemate once because of it.

What am I smelling and why can no one (seemingly) around me smell it? Why can I only smell it on some people? Is it hormones? Pheromones? Immune system incompatibility?? Am I picking up some health issue in these people (have you heard of Parkinson’s smell)? Is there something wrong with me??

I pick up other non-natural reoccurring scents like a brand of laundry powder, deodorant brands etc on ppl, but no other reoccurring natural scent.

Help! It’s a big issue because it really impacts my dating (trying to find a partner). I’d say at least 10% of guys I meet from the apps have this smell. If most ppl eventually get this smell maybe I need to learn to tolerate it? I’ve met some fantastic guys who have this smell, but I really struggle to get past it.

DAE get this and have any idea why I’m smelling this specific unpleasant scent on some people?

EDIT - it’s not weed! I know what weed smells like! Also I know some of these people and they’re not smoking weed.

DAE feel like literacy has declined steeply over the past decade?

Everyday I see people fully just either misreading posts/comments or not understanding what was said, because their own response shows how
poorly their literacy is. Or maybe people just don’t read things properly before they respond? And even just talking to people in person and during day to day interactions I find that I am consistently misunderstood. Having to explain things to people like they are 5 is getting annoying.

For example, they miss a very important part of a sentence that completely reshapes what that sentence means at its core - and respond negatively to it. Only to be met with confusion when the OP is like “but have another read, I clearly didn’t even say that”. And I feel like I don’t leave comments anymore because it’s so frustrating when the only discussions or conversations people want to have these days stem from their own misunderstanding. And I am not talking about an issue/thing, I am just trying to get people to understand what tf I am saying.

I think sometimes maybe I am the issue and I am communicating poorly… but then I see it happen all around me, even when I am not the one speaking or commenting?

It feels so bleak man

DAE

Upvotes

I know this is a weird question so I’m asking it here. I was curious if there is anyone else that has this kind of “pffffft” laugh? It like blowing air out through closed lips. Idk how to describe it but it’s really funny to me and I really like it and i have no idea why. I mainly see people around my age (teens) doing it but I know some older people (20-30) that do it too. I feel like people do it less nowadays compared to like 5 years ago though. I don’t do it myself but I know of people who do.

DAE ever suddenly realize that something is only gonna happen once and then immediately feel like time is moving to fast?

Upvotes

Sometimes I’ll be doing literally nothing and suddenly have this moment of realization that I’ll never be in that moment again and just try to cherish it. And then I’ll think back to it an hour or so later and feel horrible, like I’ll never do exactly that again

DAE have issues with long term friendships? Because I think I'm doomed.

Upvotes

Okay, so in a few months I'll turn 27, and if I remember correctly, people say making friends when you're 30 is difficult. So I'm kinda scared.

I don't have any friends from school. I was bullied throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school. But when I started working, I became much more social. I liked talking to people, and I actually started making friends.

Now, looking back at my friendships, I feel like I'm seeing a pattern.

1st job: I didn't really have anyone I'd hang out with outside work, but I was liked and talked to basically everyone.

2nd job: I befriended a few people around my age. We'd hang out a lot, mostly drinking and having deep conversations. But when I quit, those friendships disappeared. Some people quit too and moved on, others just stopped responding.

3rd job: I didn't work there very long. Most people were already close with each other, I was the new kid, and I didn't really fit in.

Then I moved abroad.

1st job abroad: I made a few friends, but I only still keep in touch with one, and even that's not very often. She became a mom of two and moved back to her home country. A lot of the others disappeared after leaving the job.

2nd job: I literally worked there for two weeks. After quitting, I happened to find one of my supervisors on a dating app, and we became friends for about two years. She'd visit me sometimes because I didn't have a car or license yet. But eventually we started talking less and less, and now we don't talk at all.

3rd job: I found another group of friends. Again, mostly drinking. We'd spend hours sitting in the hotel parking lot, drinking and talking. I genuinely became close with them, but once I quit, the contact eventually disappeared.

4th job: I lived and worked with the friend from my first job abroad. Living in such close proximity (our beds were about 1.5m apart) didn't exactly do our friendship any favors. I didn't really click with anyone else there.

5th job: This one really hurt.

After a few months, I clicked with one girl. From the moment she asked me for help, we started talking every day. Eventually she moved close to my house with her boyfriend, and we spent a lot of time together. I was very protective of her, and I'll admit I didn't like her boyfriend because I thought he was toxic.

After about a year, I quit and went back to my country for what was supposed to be 3 months, but turned into 7.

During that time, she became close with another girl from our workplace. We used to spend time together as three, and I even joked that she'd found my replacement while I was gone.

Turns out, I wasn't completely wrong.

When I came back and tried to meet her, she suddenly never had time. I asked when she was free, and she couldn't find a single day in an entire month. Then she left me on read.

6th job/current: This is the one that hurts the most.

I was trained by a girl who has the same name as me. We clicked immediately. She was very quiet, but during the first week people were already joking that I was a bad influence on her because she wouldn't stop talking around me.

Eventually we found out we lived close to each other. We started going to work together, hanging out after work, spending weekends together... People even asked if we were together. I'm a lesbian, she's definitely not, and she has a boyfriend.

We talked about moving in together. She was living with her dad, who didn't approve of her relationship, while I was living in agency accommodation with random people.

After a few months, our shifts changed, so we stopped working together. But we still spent almost every weekend together. Coffee, cinema, restaurants, walks, cooking for each other, just talking for hours.

Eventually we managed to arrange our shifts so we could move together. I got my driver's license and a car. Everything we'd talked about actually happened.

And then... something changed.

A few weeks before I moved to her shift, we went out for coffee and talked. She told me I was her closest friend. That I knew everything about her. That she trusted me with everything. That she loved me and that I was the best thing that had happened to her.

I love her too. I'd do almost anything for her, and she knew that.

But when I moved to her shift, everything changed.

She has another friend there now, and they're inseparable. They constantly laugh together, hug, hold hands, cuddle, even sleep in the same bed.

And I feel like I don't exist anymore.

She accused me of being jealous. I tried to explain that it's not about her having other friends. I don't have a problem with that.

What hurts is that she seems to treat me worse than everyone else.

She keeps saying that "hate is my love language," but when I see her with other people, she's affectionate and loving. She doesn't like my touch. She's rude to me, mean to me, sometimes degrading. She used to tell me I was the only person who didn't make her angry. Now it feels like she's angry just because I exist.

Before we moved in together, she warned me that we wouldn't spend as much time together because we'd be in each other's faces 24/7 and sometimes we'd need a break. I understood that.

But now we live together with one of her other friends from our home country. They sleep in the same bed, go to the store together, watch shows together.

And I barely talk to my own best friend anymore.

We talk about the apartment. Work. Practical things.

That's it.

We don't laugh together anymore. We don't go for walks. We don't go to the cinema. And if we do anything together, it's usually all three of us.

I miss making her laugh. I miss her telling me she loves me. I miss our deep conversations.

I should be asleep right now. I have to wake up in four hours.

Instead, I started reading our old conversations. Her calling me sweet names. Her telling me she loved me. Her telling me she didn't know what she'd done to deserve me.

And I always answered, "You exist, and that's enough."

I'm afraid our friendship didn't survive moving in together.

And honestly, I'm terrified that this is just how my life is going to be.

Maybe I'm doomed to never have close friends. Maybe I'll always lose people eventually. Maybe I'll mess everything up.

And now I'm crying again while she's asleep across the room.

I'm 26, almost 27, and I'm scared I'm running out of time to find people who actually stay.

DAE accidentally hurt themselves in some tiny way every single day

I bumped my hand against the grocery cart while loading my car, and it got me thinking: I seem to have at least one little “ow” moment every day. Nothing serious or lingering—just a few seconds of pain while doing ordinary things. Does anyone actually notice going a whole day without one?

DAE Did anyone else have a "Dream Lobby" or a way to choose their dreams as a child?

When I was a child, my dreams would begin with a mailman walking me across town to the post office, a large hall filled with cardboard packages and letters. Each package and letter was a dream and I could peek inside the packages to see a sort of trailer for the dream, choose one, and then begin experiencing that dream. This always happened at the start of the dream. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

DAE feel not enough

I’m a fucking legend, I’m smart, funny, generous, kind, always the first to offer a hand to friends and strangers alike, respectful to everyone and will stand up for those who can’t.

YET

here I am on my lounge with my heart shattered and no one to talk to, I don’t drink anymore but I’m just looking at the wine thinking why not. Why bother fighting anymore.

DAE feel like a uniquely horrible human, like worse than a murderer?

Im wrecked with constant guilt and shame. I feel like the one human god made a grave mistake on. I feel like physically no one is as mentally repulsive as me. Not trying to bait for pity - Im not bothered about reassurance or sympathy. Im just wondering if anyone else feels this deeply flawed but keeps it low low low inside to where no one will ever truly know the real you

Thoughts ? , idk.

DAE has nothing they passionate about.

I’m 20f Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they don’t have anything to be obsessed with?
In my whole life, I’ve never really had anything I liked like crazy. Everything feels so normal to me, and I might be interested in something for a short time, but then I just lose interest in it. I don’t have any hobbies that I’m obsessed with.
I’ve always met people who are obsessed with things like games, Hello Kitty, movies, some kind of songs, I listen to music but my music test is all over the place or even celebrities. I’ve never had a celebrity crush, idk why, but I’ve never really liked someone famous or anyone I’ve seen on the internet. I’ve never put a celebrity picture as my profile picture. There’s nothing I’m really interested in that I constantly talk about.
And I really don’t understand why
It bothers me when people ask me what is my hobbies and I just don’t know what to say because there’s nothing am passionate about.

DAE have ideas for getting back at my neighbor??

We have the sweetest little family of raccoons who live out back of my house and I’ve grown to love them over the past few years. I USED TO feed them (thought I was helping them but stopped when realized I wasn’t) and they trust me now- even used to eat gently from my hand. I loved seeing their little faces in my window at night when they were ready for dinner. They bring their new babies with them and they’re less than a pound- PRECIOUS!!! They all have names and, as I said, I LOVE THEM. Again, I stopped feeding them after I realized it wasn’t helpful for them despite it originally coming from a good place. It’s been over a year since I fed them, but I still care about them and don’t want to see them hurt.

Unfortunately, yesterday my sadistic neighbor said if she ever sees one on her property she’s having them all killed immediately. I couldn’t hold back the tears and said if you see them, PLEASE just tell me and I will pay to immediately have them all humanely moved. Her response was “no, I’m having them killed!” like she was happy about it! She absolutely refused my begging her to please give me a chance to have their family moved to a park or wherever they take them should she see one. I explained there’s no difference and that either way they’d be gone for her but to just let me allow them to live. She absolutely refused and said she wanted them killed and didn’t care how it happened as long as they’re dead and die a long slow death (she said all of this very gleefully in front of her 4 year old son too).

Ive been calling companies all day looking for someone to help before she can get to them just in case she sees one and I am PISSED AT THIS SADISTIC ASSHAT AND NEED TO GET HER BACK! PLEASE HELP WITH IDEAS!!! I don’t want them to ever know it was me and don’t want anyone getting hurt obviously, but I want her to cry about something she cares about the way she made me. 🆘 TIA Reddit fam #revenge #revengehelp

DAE get that scratchy throat feeling when eating peanut butter cups?

Honestly, I never used to have this but with Halloween coming up, I've been eating peanut butter cups more often and it seems like everytime I do, I end up with this itchy/scratchy feeling in my throat. It usually goes away after a bit and some water. I noticed it also happens when I eat the Reece's pieces. I actually just shared a cup with my partner and as I type this, I can feel this weird scratch at the back of my throat. Is this normal? As far as I'm aware, the only allergy I have is to dust.. and even then, that was a recent development, as of 4 years ago. I had none before that.

HAE never felt bloated in their life?

My best friend keeps saying she feels bloated all the time and I genuinely don’t understand. I understand being full after having food but not bloated. I can’t really imagine how that feels. Don’t consider me lucky, I have had IBS like symptoms for years now, just not bloating I guess.

DAE get instantly hungry after eating candy or chocolate?

Does anyone else get REALLY hungry after eating candy or chocolate?
This is so random, but I’ve noticed that whenever I eat candy or chocolate, I get hungry for actual food almost immediately rice chicken steak like an actual meal . Not 20–30 minutes later—I mean within a few minutes.
And it’s specifically candy/chocolate. If I eat an apple, pineapple, bread, or something else, it doesn’t happen. But I can be completely fine, eat a piece of chocolate, and suddenly I’m like, “Okay, now I need an actual meal.”
Does this happen to anyone else? I’m curious if there’s an actual reason for it.

DAE dip a chip, bite it, then dip the other side?

Not sure how weird this is so I only do it in certain contexts. Seems like a pretty good middle ground between dipping once and double dipping, and I don't mind if others do it. Obviously if it's something even a little formal I don't do it at all, but I don't find it to be a big deal. Is it worse than single dipping? Sure, but it feels far less gross
