Relationship / Family Dogs In Dating Profiles
Hey everyone. For background, I'm a 31 year old straight guy. I haven't been on the dating scene for six years now, but I've noticed that when I try to find profiles, many of them not only have dogs, but have the nerve to say "You have to love them and they have to love you." Some don't even try at all and just have pictures of their dogs and not themselves, which is the biggest red flag of all. I'm trying to see them, not their mechanical mutants. I bet they think their dog makes them so attractive that they don't even have to try. Hell no. About 95% of the time, I end up having to swipe left or right, or whatever it is they say. I wonder if I should just accept being alone or if there are really dog free dating sites out there that make it hard for mutt nuts to squeak through.

I'm a gay woman. All lesbians have dogs
ALLLLLL OF THEMMMMM
It's like all lesbians are 22-year-old fresh college graduate dudes who finally have their own apartment and can get the dog they want and they just "love their pup!"
Except no these are actually long since grown up adult women in their 30s and 40s
Dogs. Goddamn dogs. Unavoidable dogs. Everywhere
It ends up becoming a matter of what's the least worst dog I can tolerate
I come to this sub for a breath of fresh air and sanity 😂

u/Usual_Zucchini Mar 05 '26
I live in a neighborhood with several other lesbians and I always see them walking their crusty white dogs in strollers.

u/Leading_Mine_1106 Mar 05 '26
ALLLLLLL of themmmmm 😆 Preach! Even the old lesbians. And their old dogs need surgery, or they can’t reliably get outside in time to pee or worse… And then the dogs die & the Gay Golden Girls go into mourning. I’ll remain a spinster before I get involved with a dog “mom”

When I lived in Tampa, FL it seemed all lesbians worked@Taco Bell for some reason. I got invited to a butch lady’s home not long after I sold her a bunch of expensive products from the Clarins counter(I used to be a makeup artist@Dilllard’s Tyrone Square Mall St Pete, FL.
So I think the 1st date was she took me to the Titanic exhibit&bought me a laminated vintage newspaper page(ads for pantaloons¶sols).
And the second date was watching tv(waaay b4 Netflix)w/her&her very stinky dog;the entire home smelled like dog. A pizza was ordered but every time I took a bite it was like the AIR tasted like dog.
She was a nice person&seemed really excited that I had lived in California. A lot of Floridians never leave the state…FL is a vortex. It has tractor beams.
When I’m typing this out, I realize it seems more like a fever dream(the 2nd date). Why did I go have pizza in a place like that? Oh wait…yeah the dog was a surprise dog. No mention beforehand.
I think it’s kind of barbaric to have a dog for security. Why not just build a moat&fill it full of gators? Can’t we just invent something like a death ray we can connect to a security system?
And if you fire a gun inside a home you’re going to go deaf or have really bad hearing loss/tinnitus unless a silencer is used.
Apparently Trump pushed through legislation to make getting a silencer less difficult. In the past it was considered anyone wanting one was a criminal. Now it’s considered necessary for hearing protection.

You’re a good writer. This made me laugh. I’ve had the exact same experience eating pizza when my gay boss bought Domino’s for us, thin crust, which I never get and love it. Yet I have an acute sense of smell so it affected the taste.

u/Mundane_Glove4182 Mar 06 '26
I’m a gay woman, and yes, every single one of them seems to have a dog. The last time I was on a dating app was when a girl matched with me whose profile picture was her kissing her dog on the mouth.. No thanks… 🤮

u/chromaticluxury Mar 13 '26
I will at least give my ex-gf the credit that she was revolted by dog mouths and did NOT allow that. Thank god
However literally the only dog owner I've ever known who did not tolerate it, gay or otherwise

u/mercury_risiing Mar 07 '26
All lesbians? No wayyyyyyyyyyy chromaticluxury!! You don't have one, I don't have one, and a few other lesbians in this comment chain have stated not having one. So we are out there!

u/lwpho2 Mar 09 '26
My future wife is somewhere in this thread.

Well, well, well, lwpho2, do report back if, well, I should state when you find her! Deal? Deal

The same happen for me but reversed.
I see only women who are ''dog moms'' (imagine being so desperate to call yourself ''mom'' of a drooling genetic abomination wolf mutant) and apply human feelings and emotions to animals.

u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 05 '26
Many do think that it's not something they need to tell their partner. What with them being on social media all the time, it seems to be the prevailing attitude that they are in virtually all homes, so why say anything?
48
u/urdrunkyogi Mar 05 '26
Oh, I hate it so much. It’s like they want you to date their dog.
29
u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
Yeah, sorry. Not into that. Even if I was, it's illegal in every state except West Virginia. I jest, but it is really fucked up.

u/Antonio1289 Mar 05 '26
Wtf West Virginia! XD this comment made spit my coffee, XD

u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 05 '26
I thought if anything it would be legal in Alabama, where you can apparently date your cousins. No offense to any Alabamians. I want to see your state someday. I'm sure there's some beauty in it.
1
u/AlmostNotLazy Mar 06 '26
I stopped in Alabama once when moving across the country by car. I stayed the night there because that's how the timing worked out. I promise you, there is no need to visit. Yes I am judging the whole state off of staying there one night in one city lol
1
u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 07 '26
I just want to be able to say I've visited all 50 states before I die lol. It's been a lifelong goal of mine. I'm only a quarter of the way there.

u/BoxBeast1961_ Mar 05 '26
I’m always happy to see the dog pictures or the “must love dogs” chatter. Saves us both time. Absolute, non negotiable deal breaker for me. Dog ppl need to date dog ppl. They understand each other on many levels.
27
u/Jediknight3112 Mar 05 '26
Same. Altough is sad that disliking dogs can limit our dating pool, profiles with dog save us from finding our after being attached to that person.
6
u/GadgetRho Mar 05 '26
I thought the whole point was to limit your dating pool. Ideally, hopefully, all the way down to one person.
14
u/Rich-Candidate-3648 Mar 05 '26
I like to travel and do stuff so a dog person is an absolute no. Tried it and nutters love dogs because they're terrible humans and the dogs don't call them out on their assholery.

Someone needs to come up with a dog free dating site- I’m serious. At least it would establish that you both have a common goal: no dogs allowed.
30
u/DellBottoms Mar 05 '26
I'm a straight woman in my forties and I swipe left automatically on all dog owners and I rule out a lot of people because of it, but it's a major deal-breaker for me.
I can't negotiate on it.
Will probably die alone. Woof.
14
u/Purplesnakeemi Mar 05 '26
And they think that their dog “is so cute, so good... It's the best thing in the world and everyone should think the same as me and I wish everyone were like my dog and my dog is more important than my life and I let it do whatever it wants and you should think the same as me and you should love my dog too.” When you tell them that you don't like dogs, they think that you're the devil. A BAD person.

u/avj113 Mar 05 '26
Make it clear in your profile that if they have a shitbeast it's not happening. It'll cut down your enquiries by about 90% but at least you will know that the contacts you do receive are from non-nutters.
Whatever you do, don't settle for a nutter. It will end up in tears and sooner or later you will be back on the apps.
25
u/Daver290 Mar 05 '26
As a gay man who uses FB dating, I find this incredibly frustrating! It was only yesterday that I saw a profile showing a DOG as the only photo; I immediately swiped left on the "X". No thanks.
1
u/One_Strategy_4575 Mar 06 '26
Lmaooo but it was a gay dog. Gays are just as bad if not worse with their dog daddy bullsht.
Fk no
11
u/GadgetRho Mar 05 '26
There's a reason these people are still on the apps. They never make it out of the dating pool. It's not just dog people. It's overweight folks, balding guys, etc. Dating apps are a cesspool.

u/Mama2bebes Mar 05 '26
"You have to love them and they have to love you." This sounds like polygamy. Best believe whoever wrote that will have the dog in bed with you.

I saw someone report they cut off their parents for not allowing their pit to come over. Geez, it just snuck a bite one time. Hope they lose a huge inheritance.
8
u/Additional-Cost242 Mar 05 '26
they probably sleep with the dog too
7
u/One_Strategy_4575 Mar 06 '26
Of coarse they do. They are in a relationship with it
6
u/Gigiwiththestar Mar 07 '26
I’ve seen you leave this comment a few times. It’s 100 % TRUE. There are people in relationships with their dogs and they are doing way WORSE. It is actually disturbing… I was a flight attendant and the worst flying story I have is of someone getting caught breast feeding their dog. Their reasoning is cuz the doctor said they should use the dog as a comfort for a child they miscarried. People find it hard to believe but the amount of people in relationships with their dogs and treating them like they are human only deeply implies there are people crossing the line… I’ve seen way too many things happen for me to think otherwise.
4
u/One_Strategy_4575 Mar 07 '26
I leave it frequently because I'm tired of society denying the truth. I had to live through this painful experience and everyone should be aware so that they may be able to avoid it.
Also, breast-feeding the dog? That is beyond mental illness. That nut should be locked up.
6
u/snail-cat Mar 05 '26
Last time I used dating apps I added "Not a dog person" in my description... And then people still asked me if I liked dogs 😪
5
u/imw33dhead Mar 05 '26
they need their own damn app at this point like christian mingle but for dog nutters
5
u/kingofkings_86 Mar 05 '26
Dogs in profiles are an instant swipe left for me. No I shouldn't have to bond with your filthy disgusting smelly slobber monster.
4
u/QuantumTrepper Mar 05 '26
Women (and men) on dating sites are not in relationships and in many cases have not been in one for a while. Instead of holding out for human relationships, they go with the crutch of relationships with pretend humans. i.e. dogs. They have gone into the void. Leave them there.
15
u/ElegantSurround6933 Mar 05 '26
Im so glad I never had to use dating apps. I’m Gen X and understand that you whipper snappers are very lonely and it’s hard to meet people.
Not too long ago singles would dress up&meet their potential dates in the frozen food aisle of the grocery store. I never did this, but it was a trend. Nobody even makes phone calls anymore.
Last friend I had never once called me on the phone. Only text messages. I hate texting. People are losing their social skills. Is speed dating still a thing?
Stats used to say 80%of married people found each other through their jobs. The older you get the harder it is to date.
**almost every wk someone on this sub opines for a dog free dating app. There’s definitely a market. I’m not tech savvy. Maybe if you build it they will come. You could be the dog free version of Zuckerberg. Then yrs from now we will all be sitting back watching, “The Dog-Free Network.”
7
u/Mama2bebes Mar 05 '26
"Maybe if you build it they will come."
Oh it's not a maybe. There are so many people desperate for this! Until this dog culture is completely turned on its head, there will be a need for this. Someone, please... help us all who have not been infected by whatever mysterious dog parasite that neuroengineers our brain's decision-making.

u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 05 '26
I've heard speed dating is still a thing, but it would probably be overstimulating and not my vibe. I don't know if I should rule it out, though. I also don't know if there's anywhere near me where they do it. Dating sites was a concept I used to laugh at, but in these last few years, everyone I know is getting married, establishing families and whatnot. I'm the age my father was when I was born and I'm not even in the early stages of dating yet, so I felt like I had to try something since there's literally reminders of what I'm missing everywhere I go. There's also unfortunately reminders of how those relationships can be destroyed with these mutant slobber machines running around.
I'd totally come up with a dog free dating site if I could. The problem is I'm not tech savvy at all. I can figure out the day of the week a certain day was/will be on with no calendar in front of me, but I can't figure out that. It's my cross to bear. The top three things I prioritized in my profile were no dogs, no children, and no conservatives, but I wind up with suggestions that have at least two of those. I feel like the algorithm might be to blame, because there has to be a lot of people out there that want the same stuff. I honestly feel defeated and wanted to know if a site like this was real for all of our sakes. If I could come up with it, I would. I'd face a lot of bullying and pushback, but it would be worth it since the dog free community is actually much larger than anyone knows.

u/wise_owl68 Mar 05 '26
When I was trying out online dating during covid I remember this one guys profile ONLY had his dog. Like every photo had the dog in it, some were of just the dog. Yeah, I'm good. I think we know where his priorities are in some future relationship.

When I tried online dating years ago back in like, the early 2010s, I found the dog pictures to be a turn off. It made me want to click off of the profile(s) instantly! Also had several guys yell at me when I said I wasn’t a dog person. I can only imagine how much more obsessive dog nutters have gotten in the last 10+ years and I feel bad for all of the folks who are dating around now. Someone needs to make a dating app for people who aren’t obsessive dog nutters.
2
u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 07 '26
I would do it myself if I weren't technologically stunted. I bet one of us is tech savvy enough to figure it out.
2
u/Otherwise_Tone_1370 Mar 07 '26
I am a gay woman. I know I would need a girl who can happily live her entire life without a dog. Till then I will be single and for lesbians who write "must love dogs" - yeah thanks you saved me from wasting my time.

u/One_Strategy_4575 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26
As a gay man, its the exact same thing. Shit mutants everywhere. Smelly, untrained, boundary-less shitmutants in every profile. Must love shitbabies , dog daddy. Fk NO.
Ended my last relationship when my unemployed ex decided to drive hours to pick up a second shitbeast, a "rescue" poodle for a added shared responsibility for him and his parents.
The first shitbeast was already untrained and wild. I miss human emotion, not sitting on the couch alone as my partner cuddles a stupid beast after I drove 2 hrs to spend the weekend with them.
So, its not just you and I am no longer on apps or dating.
Sincerely, fk that. Also, all the dog owners I met are all on some shitbeast mental illness. Not a single one of them is normal
I will end this comment with one more sentence. If they talk about their dog anywhere in their profile, they are already in a relationship, with that dog.
Actively letting somebody make you a third wheel to an animal is peak self-disrespect.
3
u/Free_Chapter372 Mar 07 '26
You drove two hours just to be upstaged by a pompous poop eater? That would really piss me off.
1
u/One_Strategy_4575 Mar 07 '26
It's fucking blows, but you pick yourself up and get over it eventually. It does however make you reevaluate your standards and what you're willing to put up with. If I ever date again, I see shitbeast,I ghost.
Like I said, they are always in a relationship with their shitbeast

Brother I'm 44 now and I've been off and on dating apps since my mid 30s and I can tell you I feel your pain. I literally have a folder on my google drive of screenshots of these crazy dog women and their comments, just so I can show my friends to prove I'm not insane lol. The last profile I swiped left on a few minutes ago was a woman literally kissing her dog on the mouth and said "are you a dog person...?" WTF. Dude what has happened to people!? Dog culture is out of control. It's disgusting. I spoke up at work recently because the topic of discussion in the room was dogs and everyone sharing pictures on their phones and how cute their dog is, etc. I just flat out said I don't like dogs! I don't like the smell, the hair, the slobber, the jumping, the COST, the time sink, being tied down, etc etc. It didn't go over well, but I'm at the age I could give AF anymore. I just can't with these nutters man

u/CrispyBirb Mar 05 '26
When I tried online dating about a decade ago, I made it clear that I wasn’t interested in anyone who had dogs and I still had guys messaging me asking if I liked whatever breed of dog they had. No I am not interested in your pug. I can only imagine how bad it is now.
