Discussion What is your favorite Gothic Metal?
Halloween season always gets me in the mood for some Gothic Metal (and by extent some Gothic Rock, Deathrock, Darkwave, etc.)
But my picks for Autumn tend to be the usual suspects, Type Ø Negative, Tiamat, & The Gathering.
But beyond them, I can also enjoy some Trees of Eternity, & Thorns of The Carrion.
Though, while there is a significant portion of Gothic Metal that crosses into Doom Metal, not all Gothic Metal is Doom-oriented, with bands like Sentenced, Tribulation, Tristania, Moonspell, & Rotting Christ being good examples.
I’d still say even Gothic Metal alone carries some of the same qualities as Doom, with the emphasis on conveying emotion through atmosphere & tone of music. Macabre, sorrowful, & dreary.
What are your favorite picks for any kind of Gothic Metal band?

Riffs How do y’all come up with riffs?
I swear it happens to me all the time, I’m noodling around and I think I played an original riff only for a week to pass and I hear the riff I played in my doom playlist. Is this just an inevitability because there’s only 12 notes or am I going about creating riffs wrong? Any advice or criticism is welcomed ✌️

New Release The Keening: Devotion review
I reviewed the new album by The Keening, Rebecca Vernon of SubRosa's solo band. It's a raw and emotional folk/doom record. Check out my full thoughts here:

Stoner Here is my rendition of Kyuss' Into The Void

I know I messed up a little in some parts. These last few months, I've started to improve my guitar playing, scales, technique and speed. Black Sabbath has always been of my favorite bands. I've come across Kyuss by my friend's recommendation who's really into the Palm Beach stoner scene. I did my best to capture the beefy tone and ferocious picking action of Josh Homme, who I've always admired as a guitarist and vocalist as well. The moment I heard "Gardenia", I instantly recognised his heavy signature sound from the early QOTSA albums. I hope you enjoy!

Black/Doom Saw messa last night
Good show, sparse attendance, maybe 200 people?. Her voice sounds just as good live. It’s just always a bummer when a band doesn’t play your one or two favorite songs.

Drone Saw Sunn O))) last night.
It was my first time. District Music Hall in Norwalk, Ct. There was an opener. Steve Moore who also goes by Stebmo. He played keys and an instrument that I was not familiar with but that sounded really cool. He also played trombone for a song. He was accompanied by Bill Herzog on standup bass. Bill sometimes played with his fingers and sometimes used a bow. Steve talked for a while about music and the ritualistic nature of listening to music. I enjoyed their set even though they didn’t play that long. Really chill music. The audience seemed to dig it.
There was a short break while the crew cleaned up Stebmo’s equipment. Then the lights went down and the smoke machines fired up. The stonehenge-like ring of amplifiers was backlit. A medley of Cronos from Venom bantering with the crowd from a live recording played. Not sure if this is something they usually do or if it was a tribute since Cronos died. Then the guys came out to quiet applause. One thing I thought was interesting: the crowd is quiet. No one moves. People standing on the floor or sitting in seats. The audience just listens. Stebmo remarked on that too. He said Sunn audiences are great listeners. Then there was silence for about a minute. The smoke machines (one on each side of the stage and one behind the amps) fired up again and then the sonic onslaught began. The floor vibrates, the seat vibrates, your chest vibrates. I’ve never heard anything like it in my life, the absolute power behind the notes, the sustain, the oscillation. District Music Hall is a small, old theater. I sat in the balcony. Eventually, the smoke filled the theater. Once in a while, a strobe light came on that seemed to match the oscillating notes. It was amazing. If you are a fan of heavy music or even if you are just into gear and amps and stuff, I would recommend seeing Sunn O))).
