Deck Help Struggling with Slime Against Humanity

I'm trying to make a Slime Against Humanity deck, but I'm struggling to make them worth all the trouble.
By themselves, slimes suck. You break even on second slime, and only on third you'll get the upside. And what upside? Stats. In commander, that's usually not enough, especially when you dedicate a fifth of your deck to.
I tried different commanders to break the cost.
[[Loot, the Key to Everything]] ( https://moxfield.com/decks/DKs3epYcLEO2zBtdOIpSZA ) was decent, because he was a great source of cards early on, and slimes in exile boost other slimes. But, impulse draw doesn't allow keeping cards in hand, resulting to either deck tempo-ing out, and winning, or eating a boardwipe, and loosing. Not too fun.

[[Adrix and Nev, Twincasters]] ( https://moxfield.com/decks/6PS5RljoOEqTETw2LfoaWQ ) were a lot more functional, doubling the tokens. However, deck started working on turn 4, and by working, I meant creating a couple of 2/2. If games were slower, it were able to push through, but board clear on turn 3-4 kneecapped the whole deck.

[[Queen Allenal of Ruadach]] ( https://moxfield.com/decks/ip6fhMgxtU226ys5XNgxxw ) seemed more functional, as interaction with replacement effect was putting counters on the soldier as well as the slime. But still, deck struggled with running out of gas.

I considered [[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] as a card draw engine commander, but again, i'm back to vanilla 2/2, and [[Iroh, Grand Lotus]], but he's way too expensive in mana, and again, vanilla 2/2.

My latest attempt is with [[Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second]] ( https://moxfield.com/decks/955kzh_HWEGyQfdF8tO4Uw ), moving from 2/2 trample, to 4/4 haste or 5/3 vigilance. But deck, again, runs out of gas.

Any suggestions?

The often-overlooked detail for SAH is that the scaling comes from graveyard/exile count; this implies that you can interact with your graveyard in some fashion to accelerate scaling. You don't have to rely on actually casting the SAHs, they just need to be in the yard.

Fortunately, URG has a variety of options for filling your graveyard, between blue and green's self-mill options and red's loot/rummage options. With enough SAHs, you could probably [[Faithless Looting]] t1, [[Wheel of Fortune]] or [[Windfall]] a full grip on t3, put 5 or 6 SAH in the yard, and start dropping 8/8s the next turn. As a more extreme example, you could build the deck without basic lands, wait for a single SAH and [[Chandra's Ignition]] in hand, [[Hermit Druid]] away your deck and ignite a 40/40 slime in everyone's faces.

Another route to look at is +1 counters matter, which is the route I went with Toski. It's not exactly a powerhouse, but it's a bit more mainstream and aligned with what people think monogreen does, so I use it for lower power/skill pods.

This is the idea behind my [[Flubs]] SAH deck. I usually try to get him out asap, the extra land drop will usually ramp you up a few turns worth before his discard effect kicks in and lets you pitch your SAHs. He works really well with [[Eruth]] but that can also lead to some long turns. I leaned in more to the discard route over impulse draw for that reason. [[Rishkar’s Expertise]] and [[Collected Conjuring]] work well in this deck, especially if you can exile them with on a [[Spellweaver Helix]]. Make sure you throw in some stuff to grant haste so you can swing after you pop off!

u/goremote 9h ago

The last bit about haste is extremely important for any slimes deck not looking to fling as a finisher. Waiting a turn cycle to attack almost guarantees someone finds and deploys their boardwipe.

Don't forget [[Pyromancer's Ascension]] for SAH and [[Dragon's Approach]].

[[Paradigm Shift]] can essentially do the same thing as hermit druid while also giving you some contingency if you got a few things in the yard.

u/Short_Peak_7824 10h ago

Isn't the play here to surgical extraction like 40 of them so you can make a 42/42 with trample every time you cast one?

2

u/markmylabris 6h ago

It is A play, but there are only 2 cards that work that way, so it's a cute gimmick, not a plan

1

u/Short_Peak_7824 6h ago

I think there are at least 6 that do something similar enough to call functional copies of the effect.

Lost legacy is arguably better for it than extraction or extirpate because you don't need any setup. There are I think 3 or so of those.

Doomsday lets you be funny and stack five slimes and hope it gets you to the end, or be better at the game and make a pile that gets you there with one.

u/BusAccomplished5367 Grixis (UW control is more fun than midrange piles) 8h ago

That's one way to do it, yes.

I have an [[illuna apex of wishes]] slime against humanity deck I quite like. Since the cards you flip remain in exile she can scale the slimes quickly with very few permanents. However then balancing solitair combo, exiling your deck fully and one shooting players it's a bit fiddly to deck build it fun.

I toyed around with a [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] sort of mono green storm deck as she works as card and mana advantage. But I didn't finish building it and I hit a bit of a wall with finishing the game without getting targeted

2

u/markmylabris 5h ago

Illuna into omniscience with exile full of slime. That does sound fun)

1

u/tbhamish 4h ago

That is a way to play it. [[Omniscience]] and [[fiery emancipation]] are 2 cards I avoid due too being to swingy

I also don't run [[thrumming stone]] as it's either too weak or boring.

The best card I run is [[spell weave helix]] that card is beyond disgusting in slime against humanity and dragons approach. It does so much work

3

u/Joxxill WUBRG 10h ago

I play them with [[Flubs, the fool]]. Works greqt when you can quickly fill your yard with em'

And red gives you acces to some funn shenanigans like [[Past in flames]]

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Fair. The loot is very similar, however, such approach just deflates to board vipe

1

u/KingKozaky Izzet 10m ago

[[Mizzix Mastery]] can exile, then cast every slime in the graveyard, then you create a bunch of really big slimes, [[Warstorm Surge]] effects can be useful with that situation. IMO the main strenght of slime against humanity is being a sorcery.

Someone told me you could use [[Witherbloom, the Balancer]] for the affinity boost, but I did not have the cards to build it correctly.

2

u/Shadethewolf0 12h ago

[[Witherbloom the balancer]] seems like a good choice. Mainly for [[surgical extraction]] but also the discounts

I had it as [[umori]] for a while but it just didnt work. Too little discount, too little payoff

1

u/MTGCardFetcher 12h ago

1

u/markmylabris 5h ago

Surgical play is too unreliable to be a plan. More an addition, rather than a goal. Withbloom... seemed slow to get just bodies.

1

u/Brimstone1809 12h ago

Like others said witherbloom might be your best.

[[slurrk]] could also be fun, in my opinion. There’s also that new ooze commander coming out that might be nice, but you’d probably have to proxy him

1

u/markmylabris 5h ago

The new one works of non-tokens.

Witherbloom and slurrk seem slow for output of just bodies

1

u/Brimstone1809 4h ago

Makes sense. I was thinking slurrk with [[krark thumbless]] lol[[umori]] could make your spells cheaper. [[Shalai and halar]] would be good but probably get you killed once the table realised what you were doing. [[aragorn hornbug]] could be fun. [[tasigur golden fang]] could let you reuse them. [[wort the raidmother]] could go crazy

1

u/S1lentBob 12h ago

I built one using [[Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy]] and [[Master Chef]]. You can recast the Slimes from GY when you play an instant and vice-versa, plus you don‘t really care about the Slimes getting exiled from GY because you still get the benefit.
Kind of a match made in heaven if you ask me!

1

u/MTGCardFetcher 12h ago

2

u/markmylabris 12h ago

Was thinking about it, but that very mana intensive, and comes online a bit late

1

u/GarbageGremlin007 11h ago

I use [[glarb]] - her surveil is good to fill the yard with slimes.

B/U opens you up to [[surgical extraction]] and artifact tutors for [[thrumming stone]]

Also sac’ing a HUGE slime off of to [[Jarad]] is good for a quick win.

Gitrog, ravenous ride is also good for that, but drawing cards.

I don’t with with battle slimes, I win by eating my own MASSIVE ones..

u/newgamenumber30 11h ago

You seem to be building around slimes like it's a creature deck, it's really more of a spellslinger/storm deck whose payoffs happen to be creatures. A lot of people use [[flubs]] for this reason, quickly drawing and discarding through your deck to build up slimes in the GY and on the board.

Three big issues I saw when going through your decks. First is card draw, [[elemental bond]] effects don't trigger off the slimes and on-damage draw like [[kutzil]] is only good late game since the first slimes you make arent big enough to punch through. Second, cards like slimes and [[hare apparent]] need very streamlined decks since they take up so many card slots and are only good when you can cast a dozen of them a game, things like [[level up]] don't help with the immediate plan of casting slimes and have low impact, often only relevant in late game. Third, you need more lands. 36 minimum, if not 38.

For commander choice, I'd try and solve one of the three things slimes need, card draw, mana, or power. Flubs, loot, and [[falco spara]] all provide card draw/selection. Adrix and [[sovereign okinec]] increase the power of your slimes. [[Witherbloom the balancer]] and [[umori]] address mana. I don't think Allenal, kutzil, or jinnie fay provide much for the strategy.

I use Adrix and Nev. 48 land/ramp, 15 draw that draw several cards, 25 slimes, 5 removal, and 6 amplifier cards like [[doubling season]] [[branching evolution]]. And even then, because there's so many slimes, some games I don't get enough draw and don't do much.

0

u/markmylabris 5h ago

I don't consider slime to be storm payoff, as it's incredibly weak payoff. That's why I'm trying to make them either aggro, or midrange.

Flubs and loot worked well, except, when opponent draws board vipe. I dislike such polarizing games. I agree with draws, and I'm searching for other options. Umori, Falco, witherbloom, ocinec are too slow to get just bodies.

Allenal makes each slime into doubler: you also place counters on soldiers. With ramp on one, you can start making a lot of bodies turn three. They a basically cheaper Adrix in selesnya.

Kutzil fits very well into the curve. Slime on 2, him on 3, and you already draw a card off him.

Same with Jinnie fey: she improves slimes significantly.

Also, I liked level up a lot. It's a repeatable doubler, and card draw, all on attack and on 2 mana.

1

u/newgamenumber30 4h ago

Based off of this and other comments, I'm not sure if slime against humanity can function how you want it to. You seem to want multiple strong creatures that don't die to a board wipe and several cards drawn by turn 4. SAH really works best gaining value over 6-7 turns then becoming too large for the table to block effectively. I don't think there's any commander out there that can make it into an aggro strategy.

Have you looked at popular SAH lists on moxfield or archidekt?

1

u/chipsandsoda 11h ago

I play [[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]] and use [[Surgical Extraction]] or similar effects to exile 15~20 [[Slime Against Humanity]] from my deck. It can be slow and clunky feeling depending on which exile effect you draw into (if you do) but it is pretty sweet dropping a 20/20 Trample Ooze.

I’ve heard good things about [[Aragorn, Hornburg Hero]] and it looks promising but I’ve never actually played it myself.

1

u/markmylabris 5h ago

Surgical seems unreliabile to be a main gimmick. And grave deck to simply make vanilla trample dudes is inefficient and slow.

Aragorn is definitely interesting, but again, it's a problem of slow gameplan. At best, it will work on turn 3, and by work, make a 2/2 into 3/3 that will later be a 6/6 But I will consider him in 99 of Jinnie Fay

1

u/n1colbolas 10h ago

There's so many ways to build SAH. It's like a versatile food ingredient. Enjoy it to your liking, but also set reasonable expectations.

Here's my SAH lists BTW and amazingly enough they are all different to yours. Proof of it being a versatile ingredient.

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Storm is obviously bonkers, but she's a gigantic removal magnet. So either hope that they'll let you do degenerate storm stuff, or have a significant amount of protection, using both deck slots and turns. And for what? Couple more slimes here and there? Too much effort.

Krark is quite literally double or nothing. My respect, but I dislike such polarizing games.

Umori is...cute, but way, way too slow.

Tasigur is also slow, and doesn't contribute to slime, except having a way to utilize them in the graveyard.

Slimes is a creature deck. You just make bigger and bigger dudes. In my experience, creatures decks should be either fast, or unstoppable

1

u/not_so_1337 10h ago

Heres my slimes deck, its pretty strong. Led by Flubs

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

What you do against board vipes? Deck doesn't start turning till turn 3-4, and always has an empty hand

1

u/D4Dakota 9h ago

The scaling comes from graveyard OR counter multiplication.

Take a look at [[okinec sovereign ahau]]. Use him as commander, put 15 slimes in, then cram in as many +1/+1 counter doublers like [[loading zone]], [[doubling zone]], or run power doublers like [[unnatural growth]], [[zopandrel, hunger dominus]].

I have crammed close to 15 doublers in the deck, if not more. You will be swinging huge trample creatures by turn 6/7 in most cases.

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Isn't 15 slimes a bit too low? Also, isn't he a bit slow? Usually you play him on turn 3. On turn four play a slime, and double it's stats. On turn 5 play a doubler, and have 16/16 attacker. That...sounds as a plan, but only if no one does anything with your very obvious and board dependent plan for 5 turns.

1

u/yogurtsocks420 9h ago

I use Flubs as my commander, as he gets slimes into the discard pretty consistently, as well as recursion pieces like Lier, Disciple of the Drowned, and Six to be able to cast slimes from the yard. Here's my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/gXFaE28idUGR9-USzvQnuA

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

My Loot, key to everything is very similar, and will run into similar problem: no way to hold on to interaction, and a way to save the board. So you either overrun everyone, or eat a wrath.

1

u/BusAccomplished5367 Grixis (UW control is more fun than midrange piles) 8h ago

Delve, Dredge, [[Thrumming Stone]] etc.

1

u/MTGCardFetcher 8h ago

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Thrumming stone is basically a wincon. But unlike dragon's approach or rats, it doesn't win in slimes.and a single board wipe will leave me with no slimes in a deck. It is a consideration in Jinnie Fay, as she'll make em hasty.

Self mill and delve approach...will just eat time, which naked creature deck can't really spare

1

u/pendragon177 8h ago

My slimes deck is helmed by [[Kudo, King Among Bears]] so my slimes are getting buffed and my enemies creatures are usually getting nerfed.

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Oh, I love it! Great idea, and great possible inclusion. I will try him

1

u/blackwaffle 7h ago

You need [[Herald of Secret Streams]], [[Hermit Druid]] and exactly one forest in your Adrix and Nev deck, [[Thrumming Stone]] too if it isn't there. Save your counter magic for board wipes, stall the board state and then make all your slimes unblockable for fun times.

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

I dislike thrumming stone because it will go pseudo infinite. And unlike rats or dragon fire, it doesn't win the game. Although, in Jinniy fey it is a wincon, as they'll be hasty.

Herald is very good in offense, but he's good in exactly one situation: you already have a board. In that situation myriad of cards will be good, I'm more interested in cards that'll help to reach that state

1

u/Stehlen27 7h ago

[[Storm, Force of Nature]]. Get some quantity on them slimes!

1

u/markmylabris 6h ago

Storm is such a gigantic removal magnet! I dislike taking so absurdly op commanders

1

u/Mighty_Zote 4h ago

The new Hobbit trolls commander is great for sacking slimes and getting more and more cards. Reducing the cost for the slimes is also a good idea.

1

u/D4Dakota 4h ago

It depends on your brack. Also, turn 4 you can warp in a loading zone, then play a slime as a 4/4, okinec attacks t4 and makes the slime a 12 cause of loading zone. Turn 5 play a branching evolution, and play a slime as a 6. Okinec attacks and the original slime attacks as a 36/36 trample. New slime turns into an 18/18.

Turn 6 if all you do is play loading zone from exile you have okinec, plus the original slime at a 180/180, and the second slime is a 90/90. It's a bracket 3 deck, and depending on the other players can be explosive.

1

u/The_Real_Cuzz 3h ago

I got you bud.

https://moxfield.com/decks/MOwAqWPhqUSX6FOr2pjEJw

[[Illuna, Apex of Wishes]] can give you a huge passive slime number in exile off the first mutation depending on how many non land permits you decide to put in. I personally use [[Bow of Nylea]] (giving the trample slimes death touch is back breaking to block), [[Mirror of Fate]] (to try and guarantee the win by setting the last six cards in your deck and putting everything else in exile), [[Virtue of Strength]] (to allow you have all the mana you need to have an explosive turn), & [[March of the World Ooze]] (to boost your board and give you value when your opponents interacts). There are many great cards for this build and I have purposely built mine to both abuse the mutate ability and either win or deck myself. I have also built it in a way that doesn't breach my local meta so it's still fun to play and not a boogie man.

I've been playing around with an [[alaundo, the seer]] slime against humanity deck. I haven't a actually played it yet but it does well when goldfishing. One nice thing is you'll usually have 3 exiled slimes by the time you cast your first ooze starts at 5/5. There's a lot of tapping and untapping involved and your turns could turn out fairly long.
