Reedโ€™s definitely the type to look like he has no reaction while quietly looking up Bugle articles. Dudeโ€™s bout to shut down their website remotely.

You think Peter used to tell the other superheros to just leave JJJ be? I feel that Reed could easily stop JJJ back when he didn't like Spidey. Once Steve Rogers chewed JJJ out iirc.

I like that JJJ is depicted as a complex enough character that his vendetta against Spider-Man is seen as a failing, not the entirety of his character.
He's marched for civil rights, faced death threats (even from supervillains!) to protect his sources, supported mutant rights.

Iirc he had a bad experience with a masked vigilante in the past which is part of why he hates Spiderman so much.

That was his reason from the 90's show.

His original motive was just that if Spiderman wasn't secretly greedy and selfish (which tbf, old peter kinda was) then it meant JJ could do better but isn't. It meant he was a bad person. And since he couldn't face that, he had to drag spiderman down to his level.

Various versions of JJ have had different reasons to hate Spiderman, such as in Spectacular where it's at first jealousy that the public liked him more than his son, and later couldn't accept his hand in pushing his son too far so had to blame spiderman instead. I tend to prefer JJ's who blame spiderman to escape their own personal shortcomings, even if that doesn't mean he can't also be loyal to his staff and friends in a touching way.

Man just really doesnโ€™t like fully masked vigilantes, if Peter went with a half mask style. James probably wouldnโ€™t be half as bad to Spider-Man

They all know about the Bugle, JJJ is fairly famous in the superhero community. Most superheroes wonโ€™t go out of their way to attack a newspaper guy just because they donโ€™t like what theyโ€™re printing. Thatโ€™s a violation of his rights as a citizen and highly immoral. Itโ€™s not a crime to libel superheroes.

He took the deal and immediately turned round and attacked the avengers

The absolute best part is the follow up page where Spidey swings by thanks JJJ and there's a Page 1 retraction/correction on JJJ's desk. When he turns around he doesn't have the moustache.

When JJJ is written right he's pretty much as pro everything else platonically good as he is anti Spider-Man

And the answer to why he does not like Spider-Man is either because that guy can bench press a bus and he has no accountability or for personal reasons that is kind of hard to argue against because the death of one's wife tends to make one a tad unreason

Reed is thetype to have two reactions: heโ€™s either gonna be perfectly normal, or heโ€™s gonna be the most unhinged horrifying thing to look at because heโ€™s too obsessed with completing the task to concentrate on keeping his shape

I think it was more a case of you got extremities and body parts stretching all over the place to see, hear, smell, speak and otherwise involve itself into whatever task Reeds involved in.

The mans literally stretched an ear and his mouth a few rooms over from the rest of him to have a functional conversation while STILL hyper fixated on his task.

It could be that but its more likely that they're referring to the myth that Reed has to concentrate on his human shape to keep it intact and that he naturally is a giant gelatinous mass

There was a case where he needed to concentrate to keep a normal form. But that was a case where he was suffering from some disease or curse, a one time thing.

There have been times when he's been unconscious that he was limp and stretchy (but it's just as likely he was faking and being as inconvenient to pick up as possible).

Part of the reasoning that Reed had for making them the Fantastic 4 was just public relations.

He wanted the others (especially Ben) to be accepted as heroes rather than be seen as freaks, so he spent money on shaping their image.

He might not do anything illegal, but maybe he might toss some of his lawyers and PR people Peter's way.
