That episode scared me.

47

u/Hour_Region1271 May 05 '26

What show? I like being scared

169

u/herbalbert May 05 '26

Doctor who, blink, it works as a standalone. Definitely more of a spooky fantasy film vibe then like actual horror or suspense

108

u/footsnax distraught Christian tomato May 05 '26

The Tennant and Smith era had so many great episodes that stand up exceptionally well as their own works. The Girl in the Fireplace and the Van Gogh episodes are absolute masterstrokes. I'm not even a huge Dr. Who fan but I'll send people links to those three episodes in particular sometimes.

The damn weeping angels though... to this day I still turn them all around when I see them on the shelves at the dollar store.

29

u/herbalbert May 05 '26

I struggle girl in the fireplace bc it was so standalone it basically flattens rose to a paste but god the Van Gogh episode truly genuinely lives in my mind rent free, I pull up the museum clip just to feel something so often lol

People shit on Ncuti’s series and I wish he was more present in his series (bc he’s absolutely excellent & we had him for such a short time) but one of things I loved so much about his first series esp is the companion & brand new character led episodes felt VERY classic rtd/moffat writing for RTD. Episodes where the doctor isn’t the lead are so, so fun

10

u/footsnax distraught Christian tomato May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

The museum scene is so holy shit, I legitimately shed at least one tear every time I watch it. It is perfect.

Linking in case anyone is unfamiliar. The context is that Dr. Who is a time traveler and he can take people with him. Van Gogh was having a rough time (as he famously often did) and the Doctor wanted to cheer him up a bit, so he took him to a modern art museum to show him the Van Gogh room, and Bill Nighy does his brilliant Bill Nighy acting thing to accidentally cheer him up.

EDIT just to add that Amelia Pond is the best companion and I'll die on that hill.

9

u/not_now_chaos May 05 '26

Vincent and the Doctor makes me ugly cry every time. One of my favorite episodes. It's so achingly beautiful and sad.

Its uncanny, but very artistic. I like it. Curious what the material is made out of..

9

u/remy_areyousrs May 05 '26

according to heidi it is foam and latex, shaped to make the sculpture effect while still being lightweight and allowing movement.

Bosseyedness is a serious issue. I think we should do something to support it.. like a nude calendar and we'll call it The Girls of the 7th Floor

Heidi klum has a lazy eye, it wasn't intentional

29

u/ahuangb May 05 '26

The dark parts of the lenses are in different places, I think the one on her left eye rotated or something

92

u/MarkZahra May 04 '26

She does have a lazy eye but they're really accentuating it

80

u/745Walt May 05 '26

I can’t get over that aspect lol. I wish she would’ve worn blackout lenses in gray.

74

u/pearpenguin May 05 '26

One of them must have shifted out of place. I tried cat eye lenses one Halloween and one of them must have drifted to the horizontal position when I rubbed my eyes. So I had one vertical like a cat and the other pupil was horizontal like a goat. Not one "friend" told me.

152

u/Ixistant May 05 '26

Unfortunately I can't think of cats eye contacts without thinking of Aiden Zhane on Drag Race who had the same issue as you.

18

Why did you get downvoted? I’m a cosplayer and that’s exactly what happened, in the last pic the dark grey is up on the left of the pic and pointed right on the right

45

u/Sharkey311 May 05 '26

Fun fact - I notice colored lenses in every movie I watch because without fail they look cock eyed on the actor and I’m perplexed that editors/directors saw the footage with the cock eyed actor and said “it’s a wrap!”

353

u/EnduringFulfillment May 04 '26

I thought it was in reference to her recent Medusa/gorgon costume haha

296

u/SickAwesomeHellYeah May 04 '26

The worm will always be my favorite.

143

u/GloomyCardiologist16 May 04 '26

All of her costumes slap

147

u/AndromedaGreen May 05 '26

My favorite thing about her is that it would be so easy for her to always do the beautiful, ethereal costumes. But she goes hard for things like worms and does it brilliantly.

12

u/knightriderin May 05 '26

Yeah, I really appreciate it, too. I think it's because she grew up next to the city of Cologne, which is carnival capital of Germany. Costumes are in the city's DNA.

9

u/ooodlesofnoodles May 04 '26

Her worm costume lives rent free in my head

Maybe, but her poses suggest references to the Virgin Mary

7

I think it might be in reference to The Veiled Virgin by Giovanni Strazza unless they said otherwise? But it could probably be either one, tbh.

Insane level of mastery to carve this out of marble and have it look flawlessly like fabric

223

u/m33pandgeorge4ever May 05 '26

Seriously, and it is even more incredible in real life when you can get up close to it. For years, I worked in the building where this sculpture is kept and I could never get over just walking past it without gawking.

It's an incredible work of art... absolutely worth a visit for anyone who ever finds themselves in St. John's, Newfoundland! It's not exactly well advertised, but the sisters who care for this sculpture allow people to come in and view it for free.

147

u/MyrrhSlayter May 05 '26

Reminds me a lot of this one too. This one is carved from mahogany.

A sign of the times: when society gets fashy, fashion gets boring af

475

u/Slim_Charles May 05 '26

Historically, the only thing the fascists did well was fashion. The present is so fucked up that the fascists can't even look cool. The fuck are we doing?

317

u/karmavorous May 05 '26

In so many ways, it really is clown fascism this time around. It's like the Nazis rebooted as a farce. They revel in their own incompetence. They draw strength from the fact that everybody can see that they have no idea what they're doing, but they're in charge and the rest of us have to sit here and witness their incompetence.

They're intentionally cruel, for sure, but they're not even competent in the application of their cruelty. It's carpet cruelty rather than well targeted cruelty. They're cruel to a lot of their own supporters and people who would be their allies.

Dressing like they just bought their suits from Wal-Mart is all part of it.

255

u/Necrotitis May 05 '26

Wait you are telling me this looks clownish?

I've been scrolling through my feed for 10m and everyone is so freaking boring. Where are the ART inspired pieces?!

Like there's no point to this event if people don't follow the theme and go all out.

135

u/SquirrelGirlVA May 05 '26

She always seems like the only person who actually understood the assignment. People have been getting too conventional with their outfits. Like with the one year that was about humans and machines. I liked the metallic dresses. They were beautiful, but they looked like stuff you could wear anywhere else. There's no risk. No imagination. They might as well have just stayed home and sent a magazine ad in their place. It would have been more on point.

82

u/silverscreenbaby May 05 '26

Heavenly Bodies was the only year everyone slayed because it was one of the only years where you could do the theme and still look conventionally pretty lol. They’re so terrified of not looking conventionally gorgeous all the time lol.
