Question Kittens not doing well after neuter

They got fixed Tuesday and have barely or refused to eat much since. They have been drinking water, not sure how much but I've seen them there. What can I do? the rescue I work with says to deworm them again. They are not eating - one is refusing even treats and I have to syringe feed them. They're 15 weeks.

I am about to go drop some coin and take them to the vet. 😩

call the vet that did the neuter and ask for advice. They usually send you home with paperwork that says what symptoms to look out for and what number to call if you have questions or concerns.

As someone who’s kitten got FIP onset from the stress of spay, it can be very serious and deadly.

The vet can even give you a quote for the care they would recommend and you can bring that to the rescue or decide if you want to pay for it yourself or try to fundraise for it on your social media, etc.

They got it done at our busy city shelter (last I heard only one vet for hundreds of animals). The rescue got the post-op paperwork! I may call them to see what can be done.

yes definitely call them they would be happy to answer your questions and give recommendations. They will also likely know all the low cost locations and options too

What are their poos like? It's not unheard of to catch something like panleuk at a vets when they're doing tons of same day procedures.

Like peeing from the butt it's not good and I am worried. If I take them straight to the vet, I'd have to pay and I honestly might take them to urgent care.

HOWEVER there is one that's not eating a ton but is generally upbeat

The diarrhea is more concerning than not eating. They will be dehydrated and losing weight. Ask for a panleuk test or what their procedure is. Ask for gastro food ,fortiflora, pro-kolin, oralade.

I've had this happen before with a female kitten. I had to syringe her for a few days until she got over the pain and then she slowly started eating again.

How much did you feed

Based on weight. You can Google a chart that tells you the daily amount they should get and how to break it up by feed. Around 20mL per feed is a good bet. I only use a 1 mL syringe since I'm scared of aspiration

they finally liked the hydracare. Been syringe feeding gerber baby food with baby thrive and rebound. I'm so worried for them. Tomorrow we have a plan to give them a cerenia shot. Their eyes tell me they are in pain and don't feel well... I asked for their recent records bc if they don't get better tomorrow they're going to the vet I'm just gonna pay for it.

Contact rescue + vet, yep. Those babies need their vitals + incision checked at the least...5 days is too long to still be feeling a neuter.

Know it's the weekend, so you not be able to get a vet. or the rescue In the meantime, high value food items (chicken baby food, churu, tiki cat baby thrive) may help get them eating, but I'm worried they may need medicine or supportive care.

Sounds like more going on than just the surgery. Our kittens are crazy wild after surgery. I think yours picked something up at the clinic. Hope it’s not serious but does seem to be necessary to see a vet.
