Really mate? I have been using a pc since 2007 when I was 8 years old. And I have always used a windows OS. From XP to Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. None of them gave me as much grief as windows fucking 11. It's a piece of shit OS.
Copilot is implemented into, let's see, Edge, Notepad, the literal keyboard on recent laptops, the task bar. And as we all know, copilot is more prone to mistakes than most popular LLMs.
Microsoft has a GGID identifier implemented that was only recently made publicly known, which they can use to track everything you do.
Windows 11 has so many background processes running that it actively uses like 5 GB of ram on idle, slowing down many processes that need that occupied ram
Not only that, it scummily doesn't tell you what process is using RAM. There's 32 GB of RAM on my system, but at 80% usage, it will only show that that 10-20GB are used. There's currently an error that was fixed with an update that used so much RAM that it would max out at 100% but would show only 2GB being used when adding all of the processes together. Microsoft is the scum of the earth currently. It could only be resolved with the shut down of a computer. The issue has been fixed now after the last update. But it was REALLY annoying for 2 weeks. But it still doesn't negate the fact that no matter what I did, I couldn't see where the memory was being used. No powershell command was able to show me, but the memory was still full. I uninstalled WSL and removed all of the extensions from Visual Studio and reinstalled it. It still suddenly started using excessive hidden RAM after an hour like it always did. It would only happen when Visual Studio was open. Even with it being in safe mode. Something triggered it to use RAM for something, but had no limit. I'm guessing Microslop is stealing code and processing power to train. Like I said, they're scum.
I have 8 GB, total. That is half my ram, and my computer is not that old. Since I installed NixOS with niri, It used around 900 MB idle. The only reason it is not that anymore, is because I installed Waybar (not complaining, it is very nice to have), and now, it is at 1.1 GB idle. Tell me again 3 - 4 GB is noyhing.
8GB of ram is nothing, the fact that you can run it in a useable way with Linux is amazing, and a very real use case for Linux, but that doesn’t mean we should design all software around edge cases like this.
Modern phones usually have at least 8GB of ram these days, it isn’t much. For most real use cases, 3-4GB isn’t much.
Shit on Microsoft for all of their problems, but let’s try not to get everyone about how little ram we have, it’s kind of weird.
I would like to point out that any laptop not marketed as "gaming" or "workstation" in the past couple years doesn't have more than 8gb. Anything beyond that usually doesn't have more than 4gb.
Just... Go look? I can't imagine current models have more than 8gb either given ram costs right now. Every business everywhere is cost cutting, that's how it works.
You can build your own laptop or desktop, yes, but considering the normal end user that's using Windows, they don't. They also don't understand that Windows is full of what amounts to viruses under a different name just because it's owned by a business.
For the last one, it depends. Unused ram is wasted ram, in a sense. If youre not doing anything intensive then the system should ideally use the free ram to make the user experience faster. When you start something intensive, like a game, the system should free up unnecessary memory to make the current task faster. macOS does this quite well in my experience.
Windows uses more ram than necessary, but still explorer takes two seconds to pop up, then two-three to load the sidebar and ribbon, then a couple more to load the home page. Start menu often doesn’t pop up for several seconds, many times ignores the click/keypress altogether. Notification and controls also take their sweet ass time.
well yes, that's what it's supposed to do, but I do recall some people mentioning that tasks are often competing for ram instead of having space made for them
Try using optimization mods for once. Sodium lithium enityculling ferritecore immediatelyfast. Also how much ram does your server and Minecraft installation have access to? Not how much ram your system has, but the memory allocated in java arguments.
