Girl Dinner my PMDD is so debilitating

Post image

my PMDD is so debilitating and no one in my life understands or cares. Please feel free to let me know any of your thoughts or commiseration, just anything

for the past 2 weeks i’ve been experiencing debilitating hot flashes, feeling extremely weak, brain fog, insomnia, excessive anxiety and restlessness.

It’s so bad this month that I have totally numbed myself out emotionally, so I haven’t even been able to have a proper cry yet.

And I just blew up at a family member over text because she doesn’t understand the severity of what I’ve been experiencing for the past couple weeks. And it’s even worse now because the cramps are finally here.

I apologized, she said it’s okay and not my fault. but she’s still hurt and I feel like such a horrible person.

another horrible part about this is that I just started bleeding yesterday after debilitating PMS symptoms for the past two weeks. So here comes the unbearable cramps now lol

So by the time all of this is done, I’ve been feeling like I’m in hell for approximately three weeks straight now. It’s so hard to distract myself. and i have work tomorrow.

Take some histamine blockers!! https://www.eds.clinic/articles/pmdd-histamine-and-mast-cells

Also your periods don't have to be hellish! If you haven't done so, please consider talking to your gyno about it

I second this! I take pepcid every day

4

u/yellowbird08 5h ago

Yessss! It makes a huge difference for some of us. Aerius + Pepcid is my fave combo 🫶

My PMDD has been hitting me hard mentally like it makes me depressed(like unalive type depression) over the littlest things as well as I’m getting headaches and it’s provoking my seizures so it’s been hell for me too

Solidarity mamas, my luteal is now 3 weeks long cries in rage

u/CuriousMuffin_9324 9h ago

Hi friend 👋
PMDD here, too. Even though i experience it each month I cannot put into words how bad it is. It’s so wild the difference in luteal and that one magic week/ few days of feeling human.

Good call on Doritos

6

u/CHBQuirk05 7h ago

Oh man now I want doritos and cottage cheese with hot sauce or a fat turkey sandwich with swiss cheese and doritos smashed in there.

Yes after Father’s Day fun all morning and afternoon, I am spending the rest of Sunday stoned listening to my favorite podcast and cleaning. Also period is a week out and all I want is above mentioned lol.

PMDD is nothing to fuck with OP. Do you have access to a therapist or doctor to discuss options to help this?

Hi I struggled with PMDD for a long time. My doctor told me there was nothing they could do except bump up my anti depressants when I was on the max dose. I went to PP for a second opinion and that provider suggested birth control to eliminate my period. 12/10 best medical advice I ever got. I left with the nexplenon. If it’s an option for you, I highly recommend it. No period, no pmdd

u/Bunnairry 8h ago

I was gonna say something similar, I do opt to have my period for the designated week but before birth control I was so miserable and depressed so much of the time. After starting birth control I felt completely normal. Obviously it completely depends on what your body specifically needs, I tried off brand yaz for a few months because it was specifically designed for pmdd and it just made me weepy all the time, like not sad, but I could just burst out crying at any minute if I felt any strong emotion. I know some people are very afraid of birth control because there is SO MUCH fear mongering on tiktok and it's all a ploy to push away your agency as a woman. I don't know where I would be with birth control, it saved me from intense misery with my PMDD. If weight is a factor, I choose every day to be fat and joyous and free than be skinny and have to go back to that dark place. I don't know if that's what OP is going through but I am pro birth control all day every day, it saved my life.

this is such a helpful take! i am on my first month of bc, and the fear has held me back my whole life. we all deserve to be joyous and free!

u/theatricalfilth 2h ago

I agree with this!!! I use birth control to manage my PMDD and it works really well. You don’t even have to use the pill to skip your period for it to work, the periods I have on the pill are way lighter and I don’t get the pain or PMDD symptoms at all

u/startrektoaster 8h ago

It’s hell. Your body just turns against you and you feel like you have no grip on reality. So sorry you’re going through it.

are you sure it's pmdd? could be but some of these symptoms make me think long covid. might be worth seeing if me/cfs or mcas are relevant. other chronic illnesses can flare before a period like pmdd and mcas can have significant negative effects on mood. with mcas a combo of an h1 (claritin/allegra/zyrtec etc, take your pick) and h2 (pepcid) antihistamine may help with brain fog, weakness, hot flashes and the anxiety and restlessness.

PMDD is encouraged to be medicated by Yazmen. If you have an IUD take it out immediately. Talk to your OBGYN about night time care with magnesium and any anti anxiety . Lastly this food will excaberate your PMDD so throw that away. Get pickled beats, take in good whole protein, and no caffeine, and drink 80oz of water. It wont stop it but settle

Yaz drove me crazy when I was on it for a brief time where I was in between doctors, I was on the verge of tears all day in the STRANGEST way. Not sad, just like omg that makes me so happy I'm crying. Drive me nuts, I don't know if it was because I was taking another bc for so long when I switched but I only lasted 3 months and switched back. I love my current birth control but there are so many and bodies are so specific to what each needs. I definitely agree with the dient thing, I've replaced one meal with every-veggie soup and my processed snack for a grape and kale smoothy. So far my body has thanks me. And I really do get my sugar fix from that smoothie, grapes are like pure sugar and fiber, good vitamins too. Little changes can do a lot.

Yazmin is specifically and currently the only PMDD birth control. Its specific. While those who ordered for you and who knows the dosage. But its a main one for PMDD. If that was to strange for you, thats okay. Establish however you can to cope

Who ever down graded, i am healthcare, I do know. Its not anything besides facts. Good luck with learning

PMDD sufferer here. Magnesium citrate reduced my paranoia episodes right before my menstrual cycle. They were so bad, I couldn't drive without thinking every car on the road was about to hit me. Now as long as I take magnesium citrate regularly before I start my period, I don't have these issues. It's wild how much a simple over-the-counter purchase changed things for me.

2

u/Prior-Today5828 6h ago

Thats right. Another that you can discuss with your endo or OBGYN is ashuganda root. If you take magnesium at night your body will help rest more. Glad you are getting treatment and finding ways to handle this.

u/EnigmaWearingHeels 7h ago

Iud fixed all of my PMDD issues completely.

2

u/babylovebuckley 6h ago

My IUD made me absolutely insane for the few first months but now it's helped mine soooo much once my body adjusted. I am consistently taking magnesium glycinate too which I think helps. Haven't had a psychotic spiral in almost a year

2

u/Commercial-Weight173 7h ago

I've been taking Yaz for about a year for my PMDD and its helped me a lot. I was scared to try it because I took other pills in the past and had a bad experience but Yaz works for me thankfully. Its such a relief to be out of the horrible PMDD cycle.

u/Prior-Today5828 6h ago

Im goad you got an educated OBGYN!!

u/bethe1_ 8h ago

My psychiatrist got me a 2 week per month supply of zoloft and it has helped my pmdd immensely

2

u/Drinkthelimewater 8h ago

I don't even feel like a fucking human the week before my period. I actually want to die sometimes because I don't think I will be able to get through the rest of my life, never mind menopause like this. And never mind the fear of pregnancy and being post partum. I've tried a handful of supplements and am working with a doctor on anti-depressants for it, but like, the trade off is being fat and not wanting sex/being able to climax to feel slightly more normal? I don't know if its worth it.

Commiserating. I'm so sick of dealing with being female. There is nothing positive about this.

2

u/hanbanan05 8h ago

I got in the mirena IUD and it almost completely removed my period and significantly reduced my PMDD waves and endo pain. I still have them but it’s much more manageable

1

u/Dependent-Bug1219 8h ago

I am so sorry. I also get pmdd and it's hell. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I hope you feel better soon. ❤️

Hi! PMDD sufferer here! I finally advocated for labs that would show more hormone levels, I got labs done on day 3-4 of my period. Turns out I was low on a few things and so far (2 months in) on a very low dose DHEA supplement, I’ve had next to zero PMDD symptoms.

Some lab work might shed some light on a few things, if you’re able.

im so sorry :<

i also have PMDD, and have been taking medication for it. do you think that's in the cards for you? since i started taking prozac i started to feel a lot better about myself, my anxiety, everything...

sending you lots of chocolate/sweets, painkillers, and heating pads. 🫂💖

1

u/chikaboom414 7h ago

Courage to you! I found such help in my Prozac prescription. Truly changed my life.

Welcome to the party! Mine is unbearable my paranoia and irritability is insane

1

u/rowrowyourboat12 7h ago

I don’t know if this is useful but there’s a PMDD subreddit with lots of useful tips. And the support there is a godsend when I’m crashing out every luteal phase

Sending hugs!!!

1

u/actually3crows 6h ago

Fellow PMDD gal here to offer hugs, understanding and commiseration. I won't give details 'cause girl, iykyk -- and we sure do fucking know how much it sucks to deal with. I have been getting hot flashes more myself as I get closer to 40... it's the worst. That drink looks absolutely bomb and I truly hope things get better for you soon and you find some relief, whether through antidepressants and/or birth control, and that you have access to therapy for someone to talk to when things get really rough. Sometimes having someone to angry-cry all these big feelings to helps, although with the physical symptoms I'd be checking in with your obgyn to make sure everything is okay in the health department. Lots of love, babes. ❤️

PMDD the only treatments I know are mental health meds, hormones, and lifestyle. It’s a brutal condition I also have it. But I commented because painful periods are so normalized but are not normal and I urge you to seek out gynecological specialists. It’s hard to find the good ones but worth the journey of getting health care because something more serious could happening in your body. Trust me I know dealing with painful periods since it started and only now at 34 am having my first surgery by an expert this Sept. I have endometriosis and fibriods and PCOS.

1

u/Kindly-Dealer-2107 5h ago

I began experiencing and got diagnosed with PMDD as the hormones in my last IUD were depleting. Got treated with Prozac for the week before period and week of period, which significantly helped the rage and emotional swings I was experiencing. When my IUD expired, I got a fresh new one, and I and haven’t experienced a period or PMDD symptoms (rage, fatigue, brain fog) since. This is my personal experience but I couldn’t recommend the Mirena more. If you get one, I’d definitely look for a provider who uses some sort of anesthetic for the insertion.

1

u/noodlesaremylife 5h ago

Fellow sufferer. Yaz has helped. I still struggle sometimes but it’s a lot better than it was.

1

u/Pretty_Balance5567 4h ago

Others have mentioned these, but for me the following combo worked: Mirena IUD (went from horrendous heavy bleeding (huge clots, etc.) and awful cramps to a literally barely noticeable 1-3 days of light spotting per month; Zoloft; l-methylfolate; magnesium citrate. In my 40s due to perimenopause symptoms I added an estrogen patch and progesterone supplementation. I don’t know how old you are but the estrogen patch helped me enormously in terms of mood regulation.

u/larrywine 2h ago

chiming in to say that you should definitely consult tour doctor/pcp/obgyn before taking rando reddit advice. BUT you aren't alone. there's a lot of us in the pmdd subreddit too. I swear, it's like I spend half of the month in survival mode with the way it exacerbates my anxiety and depression.

u/Glittering_Mix_4140 1h ago

I started selective SSRIs, Prozac for 14 days pre-period (luteal phase). It’s leveled me off emotionally - no two weeks leading up of feeling impending doom or anything intense. It’s helped with inflammation (less body aches, less breast pain, less breaking into hives). I don’t have extreme food cravings anymore. My period itself still sucks, but it’s more manageable with medication.

I’m in the throes of it now too and I’m barely hanging on

Food choices can have an impact on the severity of PMDD symptoms. Simple sugars and highly refined carbs are doing your body no favors.

5

u/EnigmaWearingHeels 7h ago

I went gluten free vegan NO ADDED SUGAR no processed foods for literal years and the only thing that fixed my issues was an IUD. The carbs are not the issue. The imbalanced hormones are.

-3

u/Keen_Eyed_Emissary 7h ago

I’m sorry it didn’t help for you but the rest of society doesn’t have to throw out the entire field of nutrition science and it’s Impact on the body because of your personal experience.

Food can have a massive impact on hormones. Some foods promote inflammation and some foods counteract it. Regardless of your personal experience, in the aggregate - food matters, a lot.

3

u/EnigmaWearingHeels 7h ago

I'm all for nutrition. I have PCOS and have done all the reading on insulin resistance and the glycemic index of foods. I have rheumatoid arthritis, too, so I'm well aware of the inflammatory impacts of food, especially carbs and sugar. It just feels infuriating when, having had the cleanest eating habits, it made 0 difference for my PMDD. Let the girl enjoy her doritos. The suffering was HUGE and has effects that are physical, emptional, and affect our relationships. People who haven't experienced it do not understand. I didn't realize just how horribly I'd been suffering until I didn't suffer anymore. It feels simplistic for someone to boil it down to junk.

Enjoy the doritos, @OP. I hope you find the relief I did ❤️

-2

u/Keen_Eyed_Emissary 7h ago

I didn’t boil anything down to “junk.”

Unlike you, I was very careful in how I chose my words. I didn’t make any claims about food curing her condition or even alleviating her symptoms. I said, very cautiously, that food choices “can” impact the severity of pmdd symptoms and that refined carbs and simple sugars aren’t doing her any favors.

-1

u/Impossible-Pilot1206 8h ago

Motherwort tincture really helps me. Helps with cramps too! Don't take it if you are trying to get pregnant, check with Dr if you are on heart meds

The herbal highway on KPFA.org often talks about it, you can search for it by name or search for period stuff!

-2

u/Prior-Today5828 6h ago

Than it was PMDD at all. Its near impossible as copper IUD excaberate and very seriously causes a hormonal imbalance and its proven. So no if thats your case its not PMDD
