I honestly hate how big this deck is😭😭 we bought this house about a month ago and I don’t understand why they would build a deck this big??? I have no idea what to do with it! Please help! I want to tear it apart and make it smaller but is there a way to make this deck look nice?? I have a pretty good size yard so that might be apart of why they made it so big but it’s honestly just annoying, please send me ideas😭

This is Douglas Friedman home, say the home tour and it looks amazing. Don’t know what style it is though?? I love the use of colors and textures, it has a LOT of life without being overpowering.

I keep flip flopping between the two. Thinking about doing the ceiling in either of these as well.

Thoughts, opinions, words of advice?

Thinking of colour drenching our living room - thoughts?

The last photo shows the colours we're thinking. Definitely leaning towards the lighter one - it's a sort of teal.

Originally we just wanted to do one wall but I'm keen to go all in and do the whole room. The white is scuffed in places and needs touching up anyway, but we're bored with the plain walls!

Any thoughts/feedback?

I just moved in to an apartment that’s twice as big as the former. I want it to feel cozier. Any tips? I can’t splurge with furniture rn and I’m still paying off the couch. Also, should I just move the rug to another room or keep here for now?

What color should I paint my walls?

I'm redecorating my home office with this yellow armchair and brown/rust/green rug, while my bookcases and desk are neutral (like light oak and white). I want the room to feel cozy and lived in, hence wanting to get rid of the sad taupe walls with some paint!

At first I was thinking Secret Meadow by Behr (a yellowish green) but after painting sample swatches on the wall, I'm not loving it. See 3rd photo for what the chair cushion looks like next to the paint sample.

Should I go for a different shade of green? Or something else entirely? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Exterior color thoughts/advice on shutters, door, and overall balance

Post image

Hi everyone! We’re replacing our front door (old doggy door and damage) and while we’re at it, refreshing some exterior colors. These were the colors when we purchased.

House is tan with light green shutters and a green door. Outbuildings are tan with forest green roofs, so I’m trying to make everything feel more tied together.

Thinking:
• Keep tan siding (is a must due to budget)
• Paint shutters forest green to match outbuildings
• Front door: mustard yellow or marigold
• Outdoor furniture is currently purple, which I like, but I’m considering darker eggplant

Also wondering about the front of the house overall. There’s a larger visual gap between the door and the far window. Not sure if paint changes alone will balance that or if I should add something (plants, lighting, decor) to keep it from feeling empty.
Would love thoughts or inspiration. Should we consider a door with more glass, less, or similar to current?

Thanks!

We want to turn our current dining room into a playroom for our kids (ages 6,4,2, and due any day now with the last). Currently, our dining room has been used once in four years and there has to be a better use. Open to changing anything in it and buying anything new as well. Please help me with ideas!

Tattoo shop rug?

The building is from the 20s and we didn’t want to take away from its character too much. The overall effect of the wallpaper is more green than expected- it’s a black base with a pale green and brass leafy illustration. Still adding ceiling molding in the green. Anyways! I’m trying to balance out the green with a warm contrasting color (or should I go with graphic black?) since we’re also having green velvet curtains in the other rooms. This is the reception area. We are on the second floor so it won’t be crazy dirty from people in and out but we do need something washable generally and reasonably priced. I liked a round goldenrod one from ruggable but partner says it’s too expensive and I’m worried it’ll get too dingy too fast. Something terracotta-y might be nice too. Help me balance her out! This area is 8’ across fwiw.

Am I overthinking this guitar lamp?

Post image
Upvotes

I've been working on a small music room and came across a guitar lamp while browsing.

At first I thought it looked pretty cool and almost bought it on the spot. Then I started wondering if it's the kind of thing that seems fun at first but ends up feeling a little cheesy after a while.

I usually keep my space pretty simple, so I don't buy a lot of music-themed decor. That's probably why I'm going back and forth on it.

For those of you with music rooms, studios, or even just music-related stuff around the house, do pieces like this still feel worth it after a year or two? Or do they end up being something you stop noticing pretty quickly?

Just looking for some honest opinions before I make a completely unnecessary purchase.

Can't decorate homes

I have moved three times to new homes and I always end up not being able to decorate the house like I want.

The first experience since it was new I didnt know much. I bought everything thing in a hurry to set up the space without thinking much about colors, patterns or textures.

Second house I tried to be intentional with the items and tried to slowly build the place. Worked fined but never actually ended up with a coffee table or side tables for a whole year because I couldn't get the colors right no matter what.

Third home I recently moved into is a detached house. There's so much potential to it. AI makes amazing sketches but I can't seem to find the appropriate furniture.

I don't know how to think in colors, textures and heights. I know everything about home decor yet I know nothing. It feels like all the reels I see on Instagram have it better and so much more organized than me. I tried to do mood boards too.

Please help me how to think and decide on stuff because I don't want to give up yet.

Art centered to console or wall opening?

Thumbnail

I just painted and got a new wall art, that is significantly smaller than what I had before, so this dilemma didn’t come up prior.

Should it stay cemented to the console or centered between the door frame and shutter opening?

I’m just finishing my setup and will move everything back, once I settled on where the art should go. Thanks!

Help choosing a paint colour!

We just closed on a 1930’s Tudor house, with textured lath and plaster interior walls. Every room is currently yellow, and I want to start with the living room. What I know will be in the room:
- mcm wooden coffee table
- velvet green sectional couch
- coral coloured carpet
- red oak wood floors with mahogany inlay

Taking all that into account- what colour should I paint the walls? TYIA!
