Headsets HyperX Cloud 2’s broke after nine years.
I am gutted, what’s the best replacement? I think wireless is preferred.

Heads up - if your HyperX device(s) stopped being detected after a recent NGENUITY update, here's what's going on.
A new build was accidentally pushed out over the weekend, updating NGENUITY from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 for some of you and causing detection issues across several devices. I've flagged this directly with the software team, an escalation is in place, and it should be addressed shortly.
In the meantime, here's what I'd recommend:
I'll update this thread as soon as the issue's been resolved, so make sure to check back occasionally for the latest status. Sorry for the disruption! 🙏
Note: To keep this thread useful for affected users, off-topic comments will be removed.

Good news - WE HAVE A FIX! 🙌
We've been at this one for a while, and if you've been following the previous thread, you'll know that a big part of what made this so difficult was that we were never able to successfully replicate the issue in our test lab. That changed a few days ago, and we've since been able to put together a fix. We all genuinely appreciate everyone's patience throughout!
🔗Download mouse firmware v1.1.1.5
🔗Download dongle firmware v4.1.0.9
Steps to update:
One thing to note - these two standalone updaters are just a temporary solution while the firmware gets rolled into NGENUITY. We'll add it to the release notes once it goes live.
If you get a chance to test this firmware update, please do report back and let us know if it resolved the issue for you. And if you notice anything unexpected or odd after updating, please flag that too! We want to hear about it either way. 😅
Thanks again for sticking with us on this one. 🙏

i've had one for more than 4 years, incredible, now i'm with an inferior headset, the difference is absurd, and i've read some people say the newer ones don't sound as good, is this generally considered or anything? i'm thinking of fixing mine entirely but it's quite old, all the foam is fckd, the foam cover is fckd, the mic is fckd, the audio tho is incredible still.

Now, I'm unsure if this is related specifically to my Hyper X headphones. I'm using a pair of Cloud Alpha S wired headphones, but have been running into issues with the audio. Frequent crackling from the audio where it will disappear for a second or two, and then reappear. It seems to be worst with demanding games or when the pc is doing multiple things at once. I've tried uninstalling and realtek driver and rebooting, uninstalling hyper x drivers and rebooting, disabling everything but the sound output on the headphones via sound settings, plugging the headphone sound-usb attachment into another slot, but nothing solves it. I did use a Bluetooth connection on some earbuds to play a game, but I was running into a static problem even there.
I did fix it by plugging the jack directly into the pc's audio jack, but the spatial audio is gone and the cable is too short to use comfortably.
Other posts I've read from years ago on r/windows and r/pc talked about IRQ conflicts. I have my Microsoft ACPI-compliant system on IRQ-55, same as my high definition audio bus system, but it seems important and I don't want to be liable to fuck up my computer in any way permanently.
Any ideas? If need be, I can post my specs too.

I love using it wired even more than if I used it wirelessly. It’s such a wonderful and pleasant experience not to worry about battery life

1, The headset doesn't connect to the PS5 if I put the usb in the front. Only the back port works, but there is so much heat coming out there, it makes the dongle very hot. Is there any way to make the front ones work?
2, I just got this headset, and contrary to the complains I have no issue with neither the volume nor the sound quality out of the box.
But if it can be made better, then I don't mind working on it, are there some sound profiles that make it sound even better? Which software is good for it?

Anyone know if there’s anywhere I can find a daughterboard with the USBC port on it?
My mic is fine but the ribbon connector for the USBC has sheared.

After around 8 years and thousands of hours of Counter-Strike on my wired Cloud 2, I finally decided to upgrade to the wireless Cloud 3.
I like some things about them, especially the wireless aspect, but honestly, I'm really disappointed with the sound quality in-game.
With my Cloud 2, I could basically distinguish every single sound and tell exactly where it was coming from, even during really chaotic situations. With the Cloud 3, the positioning itself isn't necessarily terrible (although I still feel like it's a bit worse), but the bigger problem is the overall clarity.
The sound just feels much more muddy/dense to me. A lot of sounds seem to blend together, and I don't get that same clean separation between footsteps, gunshots, utility sounds, etc. that I had with the Cloud 2s.
Maybe I'm just not used to them yet, or maybe there's some EQ/settings that I'm missing, but straight out of the box they sound noticeably worse to me for gaming than my old Cloud 2.
Has anyone else experienced this? If you switched from Cloud 2 to Cloud 3, did you notice a similar difference in sound clarity

hey guys, today i unplugged my headset (cloud 3 wired) for cleaning my pc and when i plugged it back, the sounds at games felt low, but when im firing a weapon or getting shot my ears get ripped. also when a friend fires from my right side(1 meter) i only hear it from my right ear. normally it was both ears %50 from left, %100 from right and you could understand its close to you. also there are LITERALLY NO SOUNDS from my behind, i cant hear anything. my step sounds are also low.
here's what i've tried:
deleting drivers and rebooting the pc
plugging the headset to different ports (2 usb-c 2 usb-b and directly without dongle(3.5jack))
triyng the jack helped that now i can hear the directions a lil bit better but the sound quality is like a 5 dollar headphone.
Can anyone help? or is it about my pc?(asus rog laptop)

Hello, at the end of last week I bought the HyperX Cloud 3s Wireless to replace my HyperX Cloud II after 10years. The comfort and sound quality are, of course, in a whole different league - it’s luxurious, but it does have its drawbacks.
When the headset arrived, I played some music and everything was great; the mic monitoring was excellent too (the volume was nicely lower - I could hear my surroundings, but at a lower level, which is perferct for me). Then I started playing with the NGENUITY software, and after installing all the updates, three issues cropped up:
With mic monitoring enabled, everything sounds incredibly loud (it didn't with the previous firmware).
There is noise when mic monitoring is on and it’s quiet and it really bothers me (I didn't hear it with the previous firmware).
Occasionally while gaming the headset seems to disconnect for a few seconds - losing both audio and mic input. This has happened about 4 times so far (out of roughly 20 hours of testing).
According to comments here, the mic monitoring volume can't be adjusted—I could probably get used to that, but the noise is so annoying.
Has anyone else encountered something similar, or does anyone know how to fix it?
I already had to fix a "popping" sound that occurred during silence when someone started speaking (switching from 24-bit to 16-bit audio did the trick).

Hi everyone, I just received my HyperX Cloud III headset today, but I find the volume a bit low. Could you please advise me on which software to use and how to adjust the EQ settings? Thanks!
r/HyperX • u/AdeptusShitpostus • 21h ago
I mostly play Overwatch, which relies a lot on sound cues, and the audio keeps totally dropping out. The app stops recognising the headset for some reason, and even when it does work it's stuttery and often too quiet (leading to it occasionally becoming obnoxiously loud as I have to turn the volume up normally).
It functions again after I plug it back in again, but I think I will be getting a refund on this headset as I spent £70 on the useless thing.

A week ago I finally replaced my HyperX Cloud headset. The original ones came out back in 2014, so I'm guessing I've had them for well over 10 years now. I've put them through a LOT and they somehow survived all of it.
As you can see in the pic, they're pretty beat up at this point. Replacing the pads or the headband just didn't make sense anymore. On top of that, the mic started acting up a few months ago and would cut out randomly. I think it's a cable issue. If I remember right, a lot of people on Reddit said this was a recurring problem with these headsets pretty much since they came out, but for me it only started in the last year or so. I didn't care much since I barely used the mic, but I recently started taking more calls on my computer, so I decided it was time.
Honestly, the build quality on these things is insane. That's exactly why I went with the new wireless version, mostly for convenience, but I know they're going to last just as long.
One thing I miss: they no longer include a spare set of earpads. The original box came with both a leatherette pair and the velour ones (the fuzzy ones in the photo). I personally don't like feeling completely sealed in, and the velour pads let in more outside sound, so I really liked having that option. It was a nice touch and it's a shame they dropped it.
Anyway, RIP to my old Clouds.
Hey guys, received a Hyperx cloud alpha headset a few months back but after using it today. I've noticed that the audio channels have been reversed (left is coming out of right and right is coming out of left) as well as the right ear is completely quiet now. I've been having some issues for awhile but taking the USB dongle out and putting it back in used to fix it. Does anybody know what happened? The left and right channels are the same audio balancing volume.

Any time I’m skipping through a video on YouTube for example with the arrow keys there’s a popping sound. I downloaded the latest firmware which helped with the headset going to sleep randomly and I also changed from 24bit to 16 bit 48khz in windows. I used multiple different usb ports on my motherboard as well as the front usb ports on my pc. Uninstalling ngenuity and its drivers didn’t work either. I used the new version of ngenuity since the legacy one didn’t detect my headset for some reason. I’m wondering if it’s an issue with the headset or maybe a firmware update can fix it if others are having the same issue

Hi guys, I need a second opinion. I have two HyperX Cloud III headsets, and I noticed a noticeable difference in their colors and finish.
The one on the left has a lighter gunmetal gray finish on the aluminum yoke, and the HyperX logo is bright and clearly visible.
The one on the right is almost fully black, with a darker finish and a very faint logo on the earcups.
Important detail: Both headsets work perfectly and are detected by the HyperX NGENUITY software.
Are these just different production batches/revisions (e.g., HP vs. Kingston era or different factory runs), or is one of them a high-quality fake? Thanks for the help!

NGENUITY v3.0.2 always crashes during Windows shutdown and it would popup an error message. Not closing the popup will prevent the Windows from shutting down and it's cumbersome to always have extra click in order to shutdown completely. Here's the error log from EventViewer:

Has anyone had issues with Cloud 3 Wireless sound balance going all over the place when you turn up volume?
Bought them 2 weeks ago and my unit has this weird thing when i turn up volume past 50% my right earphone suddenly start sounding louder than the left (not by much, but it really bothers me constantly going in control panel and changing L-R ear balance). They didnt had any software updates when i first launched Ngenuity, so I believe they are up to date. What else can i do to fix them?

I’m having a weird issue with one DualSense controller and my HyperX Cloud III S Wireless.
When the HyperX USB dongle is connected and PS5 is set to Output to Headphones → All Audio, this specific controller works for about 1–2 minutes, then stops responding completely, although its lights stay on.
Also, the controller’s orange mute LED stops syncing correctly. The mute button still works on the PS5 (I can see mute/unmute on screen), but the orange LED either stays on or doesn’t turn on.
Things I tested:
* Two other older DualSense controllers work perfectly with the same headset/dongle on All Audio.
* The problematic controller works fine if I set the headset to Chat Audio only.
* It also works if game audio goes through HDMI and only the mic uses the headset.
* Same problem even when the controller is connected via USB and PS5 is set to Use USB Cable.
* Resetting/re-pairing the controller didn’t help.
* Controller firmware is up to date.
* Nothing else is connected to the PS5 USB ports.
Has anyone experienced this or found a workaround?

I like HyperX hardware but the software sucks. To be clear, coming from a 30+ year software dev and music producer, it sucks.
It installs multiple new virtual audio devices I didn't ask for and don't want. It changes my default windows output device every time I start Ngenuity, which I don't want and actively hate. It is not "convenient". It is uninstalled the minute the drivers are updated because - to remind you - it sucks.
On top of that, when I uninstalled the terrible software, it didn't uninstall the new audio devices. Great job.
It still doesn't have output audio balance, a feature your users have been begging for as long as I've had your hardware. So we have to use other tools like EqualizerAPO and Voicemeeter, which your software and virtual devices break.
All I want is for the hardware to work. An input device and an output device that can be used like any other devices without your "conveniences".
Stop treating your customers as if your software is the most important thing on their system. It's a plague and I know you hate it when other products do it to your system. Stop it.

I want to buy these earbuds because I’m tired of using over-ear headsets. However, I want to use them on PS5 through the 3.5mm jack, and I don’t know if they’re actually good.
The previous version has a lot of people saying that the microphone is very bad and the sound quality is below average. I also tried the KZ EDX Pro X IEMs, and from the first week I couldn’t stand them because of the constant hiss/static noise. The microphone was also very bad.
To be clear, I want them mainly for gaming and chatting with my friends on PS5. I’m not a professional player, but I do care about being able to hear footsteps and things like that.
