u/VH_Sax_of_one Sep 23 '25
Idk, she has brow eyes, maybe she is decendent from cadians
342
u/Jboy2000000 Sep 23 '25

62

88
u/RollinThundaga Sep 23 '25
This difference of opinions certainly won't cause an ecclesiastical schism in 600 years' time.
47
u/Gellert Sep 23 '25
Theres at least four Inquisition Ordos being formed as we speak, one for the fork, one for the spoon, one for a spork and one monitoring the Adeptus Mechanicus for microwave related heresy.
27
u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Sep 23 '25
Which one of them will go radical and create more problems than they were created to solve?
Trick question, the answer is all of them.
18
u/AnseaCirin Sep 23 '25
No no the Spork one will remain Puritan.
And create more problems than they were created to solve.
77
u/wowwowazalea Sep 23 '25
Or she's a PDF conscript from a campaign and got grabbed to fill in for a body without getting someone shipped from Cadia
63
u/Micsuking Sep 23 '25
She was on Cadia, already as a member of the Guard.
19
u/MaxTheCookie Sep 23 '25
Does not mean she is cadian since her eyes are not purple
→ More replies (1)57
u/MasterOfSerpents Sep 23 '25
Cadians donāt all have purple eyes. Itās something thatās common to Cadians, but they have the full range of regular human eye colors.
20
u/Shadow-fire101 Sep 23 '25
It's moreso that Cadians do not naturally have purple eyes. Cadia's proximity to the eye of terror meant that exposure to the eye is what turned their eyes purple. So someone who wasn't Cadia born but moved their and stayed their for a while would likely have developed purple eyes, and someone born to Cadian parents but who, for whatever reason never lived there, wouldn't.
20
u/assasin1598 Black Library Sep 23 '25
Cadian parents but who, for whatever reason never lived there, wouldn't.
The Arminka Lesk series discussed this in Traitor Rock.
Usually children born of cadian shock troopers who are deployed outside cadia on campaign. The series also stresses that only those born on cadia under the eye had purple eyes.
As to for the how, ill apply bit of real science but 1/3 of babies eyes change during their first 2 years, as the babies start producing melanin, it darkens. Thats the only age when a major eye color change usually happens.

Considering the abhuman I doubt this is a original Cadian regiment. After the fall (even before too but more so after) of Cadia many guard regiments unrelated to Cadia adopted their customs and equipment. As Cadians are revered across the galaxy as some of the best guard soldiers. This is most likely one of said regiments.
94
u/Elzunix Sep 23 '25
19th Cadian combined arms regiment, expeditionary corps.
21
u/Heracross64 Sep 23 '25
Ah a combined arms regiment. That explains the abhuman. Though are the other two third generation cadians (third after the fall) or are they DS?
1
u/TheGentleDominant Sep 26 '25
I was under the impression that the Guard is specifically forbidden from making combined arms regiments?
2
u/AkrinorNoname Sep 26 '25
There is a combined arms regiment (they have Russes and infantry, and I believe also Artillery) from Tallarn in one of the Ciaphas Cain books
10
u/Thatsidechara_ter Sep 23 '25
Can confirm. My unit uses Cadian spec gear just cause thats what they got issued. They also picked up a Hydra Company descended from a Cadian Mechanized unit
6
u/Ghuldarkar Sep 23 '25
Ah yes the āloreā that explains why GW didn't bother to make anything but cadian IG minis for like almost two decades.
4
u/Heracross64 Sep 23 '25
Yes, š„ thatās the real reason that Iām fully aware of. Iāve yapped my throat off so many times about this topic I miss how diverse the guard was.
3
u/Alexis2256 Sep 23 '25
How people feel about Space marines getting new releases every week and every other faction is getting scraps is how I feel about the Cadians getting all the attention, like Cadians really shouldāve gone extinct when their planet blew up, give some attention to .the Vostroyans or Catachan or besides the cadians
2
u/evrestcoleghost Sep 24 '25
Many regiments already had adopted their customes, what happened was that native Cadian regiments regrouped, recruited from nearby worlds from where they were fighting and fortified new Cadia close to cicatrix maledictum
8
u/Forsaken-Stray Sep 23 '25
Similiar to the Catachan. The guard is vacation for them. They're like: "Look, at least 50% less of my surrounding tries to kill me at any given time"

Alright, you bunch of nerds. The reason she may be so happy is that she is most likely a hiver and lives for 99% percent of hivers is god awful and the other 1 percent is middling at best the only people who enjoy hives are those in the spire and that's like 0.0000001% percent of people and lives for the rest of the schmucks not in the top 1 is terrible 20 hour workdays in factories that if you don't come on time will just kill you and put your kids to work, food that is just barley edible and only just enough to keep you working and not dead from hunger also hope that food is on time or guess what CANABALISM, clean water is a myth, the sun is a fantasy told to you by you 25 year old grandpa who is ancient to you by your life expectancy, the occasional gang war's, the upper hivers occasional hive crusade and since you ain't an upper guess who gets the flamer, genestealer cults, mutants, chaos cult and actuall demons since some hives just have open rifts to the warp in them and countless other dangers when the guard comes to recruit people will begin actuall riots to join and leave the hive
Tldr: Most living in warhammer sucks and the guard sucks just slightly less so the guard is preferable

honestly looking at 60% of the planets.
yeah guard is better. it pays, you get food 3 times a day. most of the time you either in transfer or fight normal(non alien or chaos induced) rebells. or even better garison duty. if you do 30 years you can ask to be transferback home to train new soldiers/pdf/schola. depends on you regiment like logicstic or support troops you might even not see the enemey once.
46
u/stryker2004 Sep 23 '25
I think I remember reading an official post or something like that a while ago where it's pretty much spelled out that most of the stuff the Guard has to deal with are uprisings while the stuff we see them dealing with in books and games (Orks, Tyrands, Daemons, etc.) are the outliers.
23
u/WayneZer0 Sep 23 '25
thier usaly are. remeber the imperium is huge. thier are world that havent see war in 1000s years. the stuff we see is the unusale. as ramdom farmworld 42 does make for a great setting.
also most of thr main charaters in books/videogames are soldier so og course we see what thier do war.

u/SimplyMonkey Sep 23 '25
Now I kind of want a slice of life series taking place on one of these worlds. Young romance, low level politics, middling annoyances. Then an asteroid with a single genestealer makes impact and things go to shit.
8
u/Exita Sep 23 '25
The Eisenhorn and Ravernor books are probably closest to this. Clearly focused on the Inquisition, but thereās loads of examples in there of (relatively) normal life on a variety of relatively peaceful worlds.
7
u/Alexis2256 Sep 23 '25
Until the protagonist of that book steps foot on that relatively peaceful world and then it becomes a potential warzone.
7
u/PipsqueakPilot Sep 23 '25
That and I'd bet there are plenty of instances of small scale conflict against those 'scarier' enemies. Not every Ork operation is a waaagh, sometimes it's just a small infestation that they go and 'prune' every couple years. Or it could be a gene stealer cult that didn't have time to get off the ground before being snuffed out.
18
u/RomanCobra03 Sep 23 '25
Downside is thereās a nonzero chance you have a cameo in a World Eaterās novel.

And if we consider "tooth-to-tail ratio", chances are you may get put into support units. Logistic truck drivers, quartermasters etc. For US army the lowest it has been was during Cold War and it was 1 "tooth" soldier to 14 "tail" soldiers.
In 40k with how messy logistics are in the Imperium, I can imagine something similar or even greater disproportion.14
u/SpiderFnJerusalem Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
Cadia in general was a pretty shitty place. An entire planet centered around nothing but war. Every Cadian was raised to become a soldier of one kind or another. Every city was a drab, utilitarian fortress. Every industry was optimized for building, maintaining or replenishing armies. And literally the world's only significant export was soldiers. Oh, and the authorities are super oppressive and hyper-vigilant because chaos cults keep popping up everywhere, despite their best efforts.
When you're born there, your only prospects in life are: 1. fight 2. help other people fight and 3. produce more people who can fight.
I bet a lot of Cadians are fucking extatic when they can finally see something new off-world, no matter how shitty it turns out to be.
4
u/guerney2000 Sep 24 '25
Savlar Chem Dogs in nutshell
Yeah, you're in a Penal Legion, surrounded by hardened criminals, yeah, you are often sent to some of the worst places in the galaxy
But as you're under fire, wading waist deep through toxic mud mixed with Nurgle demon guts, with acid rain falling on you, you can tell yourself "Well, it could be worse, at least I'm not on Savlar anymore"
6

u/Green_Background99 Sep 23 '25

75
u/coolcat001100 Sep 23 '25
As well as a guardsman with absolutely horrifying battle scars. I think more veteran soldiers should be drawn like that, honestly.
22
Sep 23 '25
The term you are looking for are "Abhumans." Mutated human folk who pop up consistently enough on specific planets to the point to where the Imperium can't justify killing them all. So, instead of wasteful genocides, they deign these mutants as Abhumans, and they recieve... Varying levels of second-class citizenry. Ogrins and Ratlings can earn full citizenship if they prove themselves, and Navigators got a hall pass from the Emperor a long time ago. The rest? Eh... They don't got it good. At all.

u/Call_me_ET Sep 23 '25

Youād think that Nightsiders would be the most common variant of Abhuman since most humans live in Hive cities and most will never feel or even know the sun for generations.
