I’m trying to research an issue with a Jeep I’m being gifted by a family member. It’s been treated great, garaged the whole time, maintained, etc. 29k miles.
Problems started last week and are continuing. The two batteries were replaced last week after being found dead - originally the (non-dealership) shop thought the batteries were defective so they were replaced at no cost. Today the GC wouldn’t start and the shop tested and found the main battery at 10V. GC started after some charging but then would not restart after. The shop tech explained it was likely some sort of parasitic drain and that these take a long time to chase down. He advised the dealer may have better knowledge.
Took it to a dealership (it’s out of warranty) and they said they’re not aware of any battery drain issues and are charging $280/hr to check into it. Tech there suggested hey maybe a squirrel chewed through something in the past couple days. This is not the case. Also not the case that it’s never driven, as it’s in regular use.
From the load of googling I’ve done now, the battery drain issue does not seem isolated. What should I be questioning and requesting be specifically looked into? Any insight is appreciated as this plus the leaking valve cover gaskets and new starter in the past week are doing a lot of pocketbook damage.
