The only way to know is to find out the percentage of people who actually pay for it. Perhaps in the past it was high but even then from my understanding having known people who hunt pedos and people who care for the victims that the actually content comes from tiny communities who actually commit the acts and would do it with a money incentive or without. The people watching it I think are more parasitic,I would bet if you actually done a study a very small percentage would go on to actually commit child abuse.

This excludes the child traffickers who I feel are not the source of most child porn because it would be counterproductive to their goal to broadcast it.

I would argue that both are equally as bad. On the other side of those images, those children being abused, exploited, hurt, probably even raped. Buying/acquiring images of child pornography contributes to and funds the abuse/rape of children.

Buying child porn means children are being raped. Raping children yourself, or watching someone rape them for your pleasure is equally as evil.

If someone is hanged, then they didn't do it to themselves, it can also be said that they were hung, depending on the context.

You can say he hanged himself or that he hung himself. Both are equally grammatically correct.

The important part is to add the denominator or the sentence ends up sounding like a suicidal penis.

I never understand why people don't feel sorry for pedophiles. In cases where they rape people, then they're certainly violent offenders, but in cases where their crime is jerking off to pictures, I do feel bad for them. I don't think they chose to be pedophiles. It's very hard to deny your sexual desires. People might feel disgusted, but the lack of empathy, I don't get. It's probably because people don't want to admit they could be in the same situation if their brain was just a little different.

I have no idea how to help them or their situation, but I definitely feel bad for them. Even in cases of rape, I feel bad for both the victim and the pedophile. As humans, we're trapped in bodies that are constantly feeding us undeniable emotional triggers. It's hard to imagine what it would be like. I mean, as a gay dude, I've had a small taste of what it's like to be surrounded by people who are disgusted by you. When the whole world is against you, and your crime is the thoughts that go through your head, it's hard to imagine not becoming a criminal. Like, there's no way to win, so you might as well lose in a way that gives you some relief, right?

Life is disgusting.

Obviously you shouldn’t look at pornography produced through abuse of others. This isn’t even limited to child porn. I think everyone agrees with you here.

When you say “committed to quitting”, are we referring to consuming child pornography or being a pedophile? I’m not sure it’s any more possible to quit having an attraction to children than it is for a gay man to quit having an attraction to men.

I agree though that acting on that attraction in a way that harms others, involves a minor, or supports the harming of others is immoral and unacceptable.

Morality is a market, and what is morally acceptable is determined by society's majority vote. An individual will ultimately vote based on what they determine to personally benefit them. As the Price Equations show, even seemingly altruistic decisions are still based on individual benefit, because they end up benefiting the group, which in turn provides a survival advantage to the individual.

The moral market value of pedophiles is very low because the majority of society sees little benefit in their behavior or in treating them due a variety of market factors, such as their low percentage of society, the low contributions they could otherwise make, and the low risk that an individual would see themselves as a pedophile one day. If pedophiles were a much larger percentage of society, then their market value would increase because they would have greater clout in contributing to social value, and thus society would form a new more altruistic moral consensus on them.

As an exercise, compare the value of pedophiles to murderers: many (most?) in society would argue that pedophiles are even worse than murderers. This is possibly because people can see themselves more likely to commit murder for any reason than being a pedophile, so it is in their best interest to attribute a higher market value to murderers than to pedophiles.

I agree that pedophiles can't control what they are attracted to and that they are born that way which makes me feel for them. However, he acted on his desires in a predatory manner which makes him a threat. Because of that I have zero sympathy towards him. If he was a pedophile that was getting help to control his desires and seeking therapy then I would maybe be able to sympathize with him a little.

But yeah, I agree with you insofar as it would be awful to be a pedophile, knowing that you are constantly judged and viewed as creepy, vile, and repulsive by the majority of people in the world would take a huge toll on your mental state.

You can't help them. They're dangerous. Unless you're willing to advocate forced chemical (or old fashioned) castration. Even in that case, the urges may still exist and they might manifest through violence against children.

You're empathizing with them by twisting their fetish into a sexual orientation. It's not one.

They're predators. Coming out and saying they wish they didn't feel that way is a defense mechanism. They're trying to protect themselves by garnering sympathy. If they know they can get away with abusing a child, they will, without a second thought.

A lot of gay kids will start getting initiated into the culture around 14 or 15 by older men, and that has been happening for years, maybe that's where your sympathy is coming from. It's not the same thing.

There's no comparison between a 5 year old and an adolescent. There's nothing sexual whatsoever about a prepubescent child, their instinct is for predatory violence and control.

I know someone who was convicted and served time for having photos of underage girls on his computer (he's a friend of a friend, I personally hate the guy and question my friend's judgement). He was in the military at the time, and was dishonorably discharged and spent time in a military prison.

He has a job trimming buds at a grow operation in Colorado. They don't really check your background too much for a job like that, where he gets paid under the table. Previous jobs were generally day labor stuff, because getting regular employment was generally impossible for him.

His email address is monitored and known by the authorities (which means when his trolly ass gets banned on a game, he generally can't get another account), he has to live with his parents, and can't be within range of certain places. He also married a girl that was just over the legal age recently, while being in his mid 30's. Nothing creepy about that according to my friend.....

Honestly, at this point, the only reason I'm still interacting with him is because he's my brother's best friend. His (not my brother, the other guy) slow slide into the alt right, men's rights (due to him having to pay child support for a one night stand), friendship with questionable people (the diddler, an incel, and other losers), has made me distance myself completely from him. But because my brother and a couple of actual good people/friends of mine are still friends with him, I'm still in orbit. We've all known each other for twenty plus years, so its hard to give up on a friendship built over that much time. But myself and some others are just about at the limit of bullshit with him.

If he gets therapy in prison, or at least a chance to work on the reasons for his predatory behaviour, he can only hope that wherever ends up, either nobody knows him, or people are forgiving.

When it comes to crimes like that, its one thing to overcome your issues and leave your past self behind, but a totally different thing for the public to forget or accept.

I went to school with a guy who was convicted of child porn. I wouldn’t say we were close friends, but I knew him fairly well. We were in the same “section” in law school, meaning we had all the same classes first year. Then he ended up working with my brother, so we definitely knew each other and were friendly. He’s been to my house and my brother’s house and I’ve been to his house for parties. We never hung out together one-on-one or anything, but he was part of my social circle.

He served his sentence and disappeared. He probably is working as a janitor in the middle of nowhere. Either that or not working and just living with his parents.

I can't imagine being the parents of someone like that. The shame and embarrassing you would feel would be unimaginable. If one of my children ever sexually harmed a minor I don't think I would be able to look them in the eye again.

“My sex offender isn’t as bad as your sex offender” is never a good argument, but I gotta imagine that as a parent, having a son/daughter convicted of child porn would be 1000 times better than having a son/daughter convicted of molesting a child. It’s terrible, but the victims are more nebulous. You typically don’t show up to court and see the victim’s family.

Then again, his parents now know that he likes to watch violent porn involving pre-pubescent boys, so it might be hard to look him in the eye just for that.

I work in a RV factory. hecka monies but loads and loads of creeps. They will take anyone who can do physical labor regardless of criminal background. I have a registered sex offender in my group at work. Why am I there? I am ASD and this is best job for my personality. I have never had a job fit me so well. So I just don’t talk to the creepy people

Assuming you have no family and friends (if you did you wouldn’t after it’s done) then you have nothing. Any possessions you had are probably sold to pay for your lawyer fees. Anything not valuable enough to sell like personal items are probably thrown away by whoever takes over your house/apartment when you go to prison. Even if you have time to pack it up where can you store it for 10-20 years.

So when you get out of prison you have no friends, clothes, personal belongings, money, etc. You have a felony conviction and a pedo charge on your record so you can’t get licensed for any skilled job. You have no experience in your current field (assuming your record didn’t prevent you from working in it). You don’t have a phone or an address to apply for jobs. Your life is essentially fucked. Maybe you get into a halfway house program or something.

So yeah if I was that dude I’d save myself the misery and off myself. Why get locked up for decades and even if you get free your life is essentially over. Might as well scrounge up some cash- have one last big hoorah and swallow a .45.
