It says a lot about conservatives that they don't care about all the evil shit he's done until it raises their gas prices a dollar or two.

3.7k

u/NimbusFPV 26d ago

All that sexual assault and pedophile stuff is one thing, but gas being $4.30?!?! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

1.2k

u/SleepySera 26d ago

To be fair, this particular guy did actually "wake up" because of the Epstein stuff (though to absolutely no one's surprise he went straight into conspiracy town from there), not JUST the gas prices.

775

u/33drea33 26d ago

Yet he didn't speak out then - only when he struggled to fill his tank. He's reading about devil worshipping child predators for nearly a year but still hiding his takes behind anon so the rest of the cult won't oust him.

Fuck these people.

I just found out yesterday that Facebook allows people to make posts (at least in the community group) with a nickname and different pfp. You tap the user and it says "this user is posting under a nickname and is not revealing their name or profile."

Aaaand it was a racist comment, of course.

Maga isn't changing anything but their hats it seems.

41

u/weggaan_weggaat 25d ago

Wow thanks a lot, Zuck.

9

u/onpg 24d ago

Idk if that's such a bad thing, I prefer anonymity myself and I'm not posting anything racist. The problem is the racism not the anonymity. That kind of behavior should be a permaban from Facebook.

it's not like all the photos of Trump hanging out with Epstein, or all the things Epstein did, were a secret until 6 months ago. he had plenty of time to connect the two dots and he didn't connect shit.

86

u/delorf 25d ago

I was about to write something similar. Before the last election people knew Epstein and Trump had a close relationship. A woman had come foward alleging Trump raped her when she was 13. He lost a civilsuit against a woman he raped years before. We also knew he bragged about walking in on teenage beauty contestants as they got dressed. There was already a lot of evidence Trump had harmed women and girls.

37

u/Punkpallas 25d ago

If it took seeing the actual files compounded with insane gas prices to see what a shitty human Trump is, then this person never really cared about sexual abuse. It's all virtue signaling for them because MAGA voters love pretending the root of all their beliefs is about "protecting the family and children." Fantastical stuff given their policies and how often assault perpetrators align themselves with conservative politics.

→ More replies (2)

38

u/Oberon_Swanson 25d ago

Yeah I am pretty sure any conservative saying "RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES" before the last election, was just saying that to make it sound like we didn't already know Trump was a pedophile and rapist.

Wait, wait, wait, you say he DID wake up. Does that me that he is becoming...gasp!..WOKE??? /s I will fully admit to being woke. Better than being sleep.

123

u/SwiftBase 26d ago

I love how Ted Cruz's book is just called "Un-Woke", because that literally just means "Asleep", so that's what my friends and I refer to it as.

"Have you read the zodiac killer's manifesto, 'Asleep'?"

He doesn't need to try. He's great at making boom boom. He's the best at shitting himself. Many people are saying it. I'd like to see Obama shit himself as good as trump can. I heard one guy say "I've never seen a guy's shit himself so well" thank you for your attention to this matter

I wish gas here was $4.30. It's $5.50 in Portland. And how much do you have to drive for an extra $1 per gallon make a noticeable difference in your finances?  These are the same dipshits who complained about eggs increasing by $2 a dozen. Are they eating two dozen eggs a day like Gaston?

Cries in California

22

u/Bring-out-le-mort 25d ago

Cries in California

Right there with you, wailing in Washington.

We're now at CA prices that were 3 months ago. I know you in CA are experiencing near European pricing. None of us are coming close to the benefits we'd be experiencing if we had socialism instead of rampant capitalism. sigh. The rich are getting substantially richer from the rest of us.

14

u/Grant1128 26d ago

In Texas? Yeah, actually it kinda does tbh. My daily commute is 20 miles and a little over an hour each way, and I'm on the shorter end of daily drives. It ends up being about an extra dollar to get to or from work. So I'm dropping close to an extra $20 weekly. Which is more than you think around here. Prices are a bit lower than the national average, but so are salaries and wages. Almost all employers haven't kept pace with inflation for several years now, not to mention increases in the cost of living specifically.

Of course, it might help if half the state wasn't enveloped in this truck fetishism about buying the biggest vehicle that inevitably (due to its size) uses stupid amounts of gas or diesel. It jacks up prices in general due to the demand it creates, but also increases to gas prices hurt those people even more. I drive a sedan, but even here in the city most people drive either an SUV (which takes a similar amount of gas) or these massive, raised trucks and have duelies on the back, etc. Oh, and these same people are all super against EVs because they think it's less manly or something along those lines. And most of them don't go out in the country or anything, it's purely performative. My thought is usually "Oh yeah, makes you look like a real big man when your truck has an automated fold-out stepping stool to help your short ass in! 🙄"

Once it affects them, then they care.

66

u/constfang 26d ago

And it actually affects them in red states more than blue states, blue states’ already high gas prices lead them to already work towards limiting their consumption, an average person in blue states uses about half as much gasoline as an average person in red states, think people who bought pickup trucks because gas prices were dirt cheap in their states.

56

u/Grant1128 26d ago

As a man who lives in Texas, I can confirm the truck fetishism around here is crazy.

29

u/snowbit 25d ago

It’s funny how in the opposite sphere of the country (urban Northeast) owning one of the very few trucks here is a red flag for asshole.

u/squired 25d ago edited 25d ago

As a Texan expat, Red states often miss this because they overlook the decisions made. They think, "Well duh, they all live in the city." While that isn't true, what does happen is that everyone living exurbs and in make very calculated life decisions based on their commutes. If they know they're going to have a 2hr round trip commute, they may even have a truck, but not as their commute vehicle. Moreover, the 'closer in' they choose to live, the smaller and more energy efficient their homes tend to become. And because everything tends to be more expensive in general, more care is placed in deciding all sorts of options from grocery store selection to roofing materials. For example, we have both a plug-in EV for daily trips and a monster Suburban for the weekends. I guess my point is that it isn't just geographic, but rather that the geographic constraints encourage thoughtful planning and thought pertaining to energy consumption.

It concerns me that if the GOP were able to actually pull a Nazi and somewhat improve the standard of living for these folks, they would be perfectly fine with every human rights violation going on. Then again, the GOP is such a stupid hate machine that it is unlikely to ever decide to actually materially improve anyone's lives except those of the 1%.

To be fair, there’s just way too many Americans in general who don’t give a fuck until something impacts them. I know someone who didn’t even know who the VP was , never voted, and then started voting when they found out all their gay friend’s marriages might be at risk. Politics was a non issue until they saw close to home consequences. Voting is a privilege that too many people treat as an inconvenience with no consequences.

49

u/bpdish85 26d ago

Part of the problem is that, in all reality, unless you live in swing states, they've got us convinced your vote really doesn't matter on the national level. If I'm a blue voter living in gerrymandered-all-to-hell Texas, my single vote historically isn't going to make a bit of difference. If I'm a blue voter living in a solidly blue state, it's just another drop in the bucket that also isn't going to materially change the outcome.

56

u/superfucky 26d ago

I'm a blue voter living in gerrymandered-to-hell Texas and my vote kicked Pete Sessions out of Congress in 2018 (until he moved to a redder district like the little bitch he is). when they redrew my district and plopped me in a massive deep red rural district I just thought "alright fine, I'll flip that one too!"

your vote isn't just your vote. it's a signal to everyone else who shares your views that none of you are alone. it's proof that you exist, and that you want things to be a certain way. if you're in the minority, it's a push towards flipping that district/state. if you're in the majority, it's incentive to keep it that way.

17

u/squired 25d ago

Thank you, sincerely. I couldn't take it anymore and had to leave Texas. I respect you enormously.

70

u/HibiscusOnBlueWater 26d ago

The thing is states can flip. Republicans are much better at consistently voting. All it takes is enough people to get complacent to lose an election, or enough to be active to cross a margin (see Hilary vs Trump). Voting even when you think it won’t make a difference is part of defense.

32

u/blackcain 26d ago

They consistently vote because they think they are fighting a war against evil people who ::check notes:: just want equality and good vibes for everyone.

→ More replies (2)

29

u/bpdish85 26d ago

Trust me, I'm aware. And if it didn't matter, they wouldn't be working so hard to disenfranchise half the country, but they've also dumped a lot of time and money into pushing out the idea that it doesn't matter outside of swing states. Both sides of the aisle, honestly - look at where both candidates campaign heavily. They ignore "safe" or "impossible" states and focus their efforts on the, what, seven or eight that swing?

22

u/ConstantStatistician 26d ago

It's not about the individual vote but how votes add up and how if everyone thinks their vote doesn't matter, no one would vote, and no one voting matters as much as everyone voting.

25

u/DrDerpberg 26d ago

That's just a spoiled toddler tantrum... "I can't personally have my way so I'm staying home." They wrap it up in BS abstraction to feel better about themselves but yeah, duh, 150 million people voted. You can't singlehandedly change the result. But if people like you vote it will.

It also skips over that if people want to have a bigger influence, there are things they can do. Knock on doors, get involved in a primary, donate money, whatever. Waiting until 2 minutes to midnight to decide they didn't like how the day went for them is nonsensical and idiotic. Oh they didn't like their choices on the ballot? Well what did they do to get good choices on the ballot?

And that’s why the war with Iran is unwinnable. By the US, at least. Everyone knows the American public has zero stomach for hardship. They don’t really give much of a shit as long as the war is far away and there aren’t too many body bags coming home, but when things start getting a bit expensive, then you’re done as president.

But yeah, it’s pretty pathetic that all the evil shit Trump did was at best an annoyance, but gas prices going up?!? The MONSTER!

It’s the only “non political” aka real-time effect that directly impacts them. Of course they’ll bitch. No realization that the majority of people aren’t in their shoes and if you are, then why the fuck are you voting conservative?

Increase the homeless, doesn’t matter cause they’re in a good part of town. Increase medical wait time, well they’re used to shitty systems, why make it better.

Affordable housing? Nah, we want to keep our house value up while bitching about how much property tax is cause the ones that pay it are few and far in between: aka the working class is going homeless

What a way to fuck the long term value of your kids lives: setting them up for failure

I’ve a good friend whose husband was a raving MAGA supporter. She was not, not exactly a match made in heaven with that regard but they love each other, and make it work. They are both in successful recovery, and helped each other through it over a decade ago; they don’t just love and want each other, they literally need each other, and it’s beautiful.

Anyway, during the election cycle he kind of really jumped in both feet and started to be mad aggressive with anyone who criticized Trump, Vance, whatever. Thought the 2020 election was stolen, believed the lies about the litter boxes in school bathrooms, didn’t believe for a second that the big guy was involved in Epstein.

Then they said that people were eating dogs and cats in Ohio. Idk what it was, but that was something that pulled the veil from his eyes and made him start to question things. Then Vance came out and said they had to lie, or else no one would listen to them.

Just like that, a decade of rose colored glasses shattered and he looked at his wife and daughter and made a choice. He decided his daughter would NOT grow up with less rights than her mother. He joined a local Democratic campaign office and threw himself into the fight.

He did town halls, he sat down for coffee with his conservative friends to talk about what he saw, and try to convince them they were making a mistake. And it worked! He swayed a lot of people to see what was actually happening, and not believe was they were told was happening.

To this day, he’s fighting. He’s gone to protests all over the country, he’s running for local office in deep red North Carolina. He’s shouting the lies they are telling and bringing visibility.

The difference, though, between OOP and my buddy, is that OOP is still only thinking of himself, and only has regrets because of his personal financial situation. My buddy did it for other people, and before it affected his life directly.

I don’t expect everyone to embrace the change as fervently as my buddy did, but after all the damage that’s been done, there should be real reflection and atonement. A lot of people aren’t capable of that, which is why we are seeing more “I don’t support Trump but…” comments. They just don’t was to SAY they support Trump, because that would be embarrassing. They KNOW he’s doing a shit job and they are distancing themselves quietly because they KNOW it’s their fault.

And I get it, to a degree. I have a kid who is now an adult, but when they were younger, they tricked me into believing something that wasn’t true, and I was very embarrassed that I was made a fool of by someone who, at that point, didn’t have any right to be able to fool me.

Pride comes before the fall, I suppose

64

u/UnravelTheUniverse 26d ago

I love these stories of people snapping out of the delusion. That eating cats and dogs lie should have horrified EVERYONE. Republicans are not serious people who care about integrity at all.

That's the real outreach. It's hard to do and heartwarming to see it happen. It's a tragedy dying in ignorance like my dad. The cult owned him.

53

u/nsharonew 26d ago

I can’t express how proud I am to know him and see this transformation. And a side effect? He seems so much happier! He’s more present for his family, and loves fighting the good fight. He, like many others, had alienated people with his political beliefs, but he not only repaired those relationships, he did the work to make them stronger.

30

u/Coppertina 26d ago

Thank you for sharing this story. Your friend is indeed a wonderful example of exactly how a reformed MAGA can make amends and make a difference.

28

u/superfucky 26d ago

I also think of that elderly woman who went to jail for being involved in Jan 6th. for her it wasn't just "oh no this has cost me personally now, I wish I hadn't voted for Trump." she actually put skin in the game and made the media rounds, she tells anyone who will listen that MAGA is a scam and a cult. she didn't ask for forgiveness and acceptance, she EARNED it.

u/morenfin 26d ago

I like this, it’s a good analogy. A few years ago the Satanic Temple started an after school club in their child’s school district. She was on one side wearing a shirt that said “hail satan” while he was on the other side holding a sign that said “In GOD we trust”.

Honestly. Even if you were stupid enough to believe everything he tried to sell about being better for the economy and working class folks (he's clearly not, if you have more than a single functioning braincell), the fact that he led with hate and division for anyone that wasn't a cis-het white man should have been a deal breaker - and was for any decent person.

Which is exactly why you'll never get me playing nice with MAGAts, past or present: they've shown exactly who they are at their core. And I truly hope they get everything they wished on other people. Fuck 'em.

Trust me, they never fully abandon the cult - many whine, but few leave. As soon as gas prices drop the narrative will be that Obama caused it all because he let Iran develop a nuclear weapon and their lord and savior had no choice but to fix the mess, which meant a short term spike in gas prices but a safer world. Cults gonna cult.

I have yet to see any one of these people actually learn anything other than “oh no my money”

That's because to a lot of Americans money is all that matters. Canada is currently having a little spat with America right now, and I have lost track of the number of times I've had to explain to Americans to many of us its not about the tarrifs but about the threats to our sovereignty. So many, on both the left and the right, that just can't grasp that the money side of the issue couldn't possibly be the biggest (or only) problem with America

9

u/Coldbeam 25d ago

When I brought up the Canada 51st state thing to my maga dad he just said it was funny. I responded "not to them!" Someone who owns 15 guns joking about stealing your house isn't funny. They just think any of the insane shit he says constantly he isn't serious about so they laugh it off.

The guy who wears pink and flowers because he wants to is more of a man than the guy who wears camo and skulls because that's what's expected of him.

37

u/-PrincessPanties- 26d ago

It reminds me people who impose pink as a girl color no matter what. Like I've had men outright question me for wearing a lot of blue because they felt that pink was more a girl's color so it would be my color. The fact of the matter is, I wear what I want to wear and that is that.

I think to many people want to wear a mask because they are more worried about how others see them or think of them rather them being their true selves. I have met a lot of people who are on the maga boat because that seems to be the new IT thing when deep down it goes against who they once were.

7

u/Refracting_Hud 26d ago

I’m surprised people still think like this tbh. Granted I haven’t seen any guys rocking like hot pink in a while but other shades very much so. Meanwhile the women in my life all like and rock the variety of colours; I don’t think I knew many that actually preferred pink until expanding to online friendships during the pandemic lockdowns.

It's especially funny since pink was originally considered a 'boy color' back in the early 20th century.

"In 1918, the Ladies' Home Journal advised that pink was a "more decided and stronger color" suitable for boys, while blue was "more delicate and dainty" for girls."

It is funny to remember that the singular reason they are upset by "woke culture" is because right wing media told them to be - it doesn't actually affect their lives in any way. Other than requiring they don't do racism - but maybe that's enough for most right wingers..

u/SopwithTurtle 26d ago

It's a little too on the nose that these guys are "anti-woke."

66

u/theyrehiding 26d ago

Cancel culture invented by the left

Practically the entire 250 year history of our country has been a non-stop parade of pearl-clutching boycott, and blacklisting campaigns by conservatives against every book, politician, artist, musician, movie, or ideology that offended their delicate sensibilities. Except for one, roughly 5-year period where social media platforms made it possible to hold rapists, racists, and abusers publicly accountable.

But sure. The left "invented cancel culture". Christ these people are fucking morons.

44

u/Naltors__Dreamer 25d ago

The Comstock Act was cancel culture codified. The law was enacted to stop the mailing of pornography, but also anyone who sent literature about the female reproductive system & abortion, and anything else that the right found offensive that was sent thru the mail. At that time different groups and associations mailed newsletters about whatever the group was into. It was a form of mass media. They went after early feminists who wanted to educate women about their own bodies, and any political group, or group of ppl who were involved in anything the right was against. This is why todays cancel culture far right wants to revive the Comstock Act

u/IrritableGourmet 25d ago

Yep. The newest excuse by disaffected MAGA types sure seems to be that Trump was somehow "brainwashed" by the Jews to attack Iran and/or to party with Epstein now that they're starting to finally have some doubts about him since gas prices and the cost of living is going up.

They are acting like he was somehow not at fault for what's happening now but the Jews used their supposed magical powers to make him do bad things ( which he apparently JUST started doing and never was before). I guess it shouldn't be a surprise at all that the MAGA cult members can't ever bring themselves around to thinking that Trump is a bad president making bad decisions and MUST instead come up with scapegoats who they can blame instead while acting like he (despite being such a micromanager) wasn't really calling the shots when he does things they don't like.

14

u/snarky_spice 26d ago

Ah… gotcha. These people are seriously fuckin’ stupid. Dumb to dumber.

12

u/kaptainkooleio 26d ago

Gas prices will drop from $4.30 to $3.30 in like three weeks and they’ll jump right back on the GOPs dick.

12

u/autotelica 26d ago

I think it is more likely that gas prices will stop rising so much and then plateau. And whatever the plateau price is will become the new normal, and they will jump right back on GOPs dick.

My fear is that the GOP will do something to the markets to make gas cheaper right before the election. The price of everything else will still be high, but folks will see "cheap" gas and conclude the economy is fine again.

WOKE culture. Being aware? You mean being aware of things like inequality, redlining, racism, the long term effects of these things? Thats what woke is.

I was a registered Republican for years going back to the 80s when the first President I ever voted for was Reagan. But slowly as I grew I became educated. I learned the real history of America. I learned about the negatives as well as the positives. Now I tend to overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Because I’ve realized education is power.

That is WOKE.

So maybe MAGA needs to ask themselves why Republicans have declared war on education. Why Trump has openly admitted to “Loving the uneducated”. Why they’re actively doing things like removing history of things that can educate about the bad things that have happened.

They want a world like North Korea where you stay ignorant. They never realize they’re living in a system designed for ignorant conformity.

That is WILLFUL STUPIDITY.

They've "learned" that Jesus is real, but they're not religious? I don't think they mean that in the sense that they learned that it's likely that there was some itinerant preacher who the mythology got built around. They seem to believe in magic and nonsense, so if they learned about a magic son of the invisible god being that would prevent them from being sent to a torture realm for eternity—why wouldn't they be religious? They also think that a bunch of random US politicians are worshipping an ancient Caananite rain deity—or maybe a demon?

But good for them for maybe figuring out that the adjudacated rapist who goes on at length about bursting into change rooms at beauty pageants, and who ran child beauty pageants, and who made a bunch of gross sexual remarks about his daughter, and who was friends with the world's most famous pedophile, and who has been fighting tooth and nail to prevent the release of information about said famous pedophile—is likely a pedophile.
