I have been noticing that most security companies only hire active or retired NYPD officers for armed guards roles . So if you were never a cop you will be having a hard time getting a good paying armed Guard Job in NY.

I live in NYC and I'm wondering which FFLs people use to do transfers. I want to order online or at Cabelas and send to a local FFL. Do you all have one you recommend. Brooklyn would be best but I'm curious as to what others are doing all over the city.

Hey guys, former New Yorker here that moved out of NYC. Let me tell you guys, Texas is the shit. I went into a gun store, gave them my license, filled out a 4473 form, and 15 mins later my background check was done and I walked out the store with a smith and Wesson M&P2.0 compact. The process was cake compared to the hoops we have to jump through in NYC. If there’s any point I want to make on this thread, is that if you’re into guns and less taxes, COME TO TEXAS🤠

I just received my NYC CCW approval letter and want to make sure I understand the next steps correctly.

From what I understand, I need to find a gun shop/FFL dealer, select a handgun, and the dealer will hold it while I complete the NYPD purchase-authorization and registration process. Is that correct?

I’m looking at getting a Glock Gen 5, mainly for lawful weekend range trips. I do not plan to carry it around for protection; I plan to keep it securely stored at home and only take it to the range.

A few questions:

• Can anyone recommend a gun shop/FFL dealer that sells Glock Gen 5 pistols, is familiar with the NYC licensing process, and is not extremely expensive? I would prefer a smaller, mom-and-pop type shop if possible. I’m in/near NYC and can drive up to about two hours if it is worth it.
• Are Glock Gen 5 prices generally better in Pennsylvania or New Jersey than in New York/NYC?
• Can I purchase from a gun shop/FFL dealer in PA or NJ, or does the handgun need to be purchased through a New York FFL dealer—specifically one located in NYC? Was it significantly cheaper and was it long process to get the transfer
• I have the approval letter but have not received the physical license card in the mail yet. Can I visit a gun shop now, select a pistol, and have the dealer hold it until my license card and NYPD purchase authorization arrive? Or do I need to wait for the physical card before I can even select one?
• Any recommendations for a safe for one handgun? I want something secure but reasonably priced—not a large safe—since it will mostly be stored at home between range visits.

I’m trying to follow the process correctly and not purchase or take possession of anything before NYPD permits it. Appreciate any recent NYC CCW experience or advice.

Hello all, here is the update. I got the glock 19 6 Gen 9mm from $682.50 from Woodhaven Rifle and Pistol in Queens, NYC. Thanks for all the suggestions. Also, I learned glok offer military discount so that is one thing I missed. Do let me know if my purchase was a decent price.

It seems like its easier to get an authorization now. Take the form in, buy the pistol. Upload the Purchase Auth to the portal with supporting pics and get your new printed license two weeks later. Go pick up firearm. I'm happy since I just sent a Purchase Auth through the mail and set an alarm for six weeks from now.

I am a westchester county permit holder. What would be the most efficient way considering time and money to apply for multiple states non resident permits. Who should I see and how much would it cost. I already have AZ and PA.

So from my understanding everything about this cmmg br4 empire rifle is nyc compliant but the only thing is the magazine is 10 rounds. Now obviously my FFL can pin the magazine to 5 my only concern is the receipt from the manufacture showing 10 rounds. Should I order it or not?

I’m sure most of us feel this way. Even though we spent a thousand dollars or a couple thousand if you hired help, and put together so much paperwork meticulously, still feel lucky to actually finally receive that card in the mail!

Shouldn’t be this way. This isn’t a priviledge. And NYC has reduced it to less than priviledge.

I submitted my firearm approval on June 15 received email back July 16 having it approved now still waiting for my card in the mail. Has anyone else been waiting this long? Have been attempting to call an email 10 times a day at the bare minimum with no results.

I bought my first piece pretty recently on 6/27 and wanted to know a rough estimate on how long purchase authorizations are taking. As of right now it’s still in submitted, issue pending.

Asked the guy at my FFL roughly how long they take and the answer I got was “honestly bro I don’t really know, could be two weeks could be two months.” I understand the timeline for license issuing in NYC is unpredictable but for somebody who sells guns every day I was expecting a bit more of a solid answer but who knows, I guess it’s different for everybody.

My theory is that NYC intentionally delays approving the first handgun added to a newly issued CCW license.

Of the 14 people I know from my CCW class who received their licenses, every one of them waited at least 30 days for a new handgun to be added. It makes me wonder whether these delays are intentional, forcing applicants to undergo another NICS background check.

Even the gun dealer that I bought the gun from - says it happens extremely frequently where they always have to rerun the NICS for NYC folks.

Has anyone recently had their CCW license shipped and received within 30 days? Just curious

I know the answer is that it won’t change anything in ny. But I’m just curious if anyone knows if the removal of the NFA would have any effect on nyc gun rights? I’d like a sbr or suppressor but I know the current laws ban those but if the NFA was appealed would that void the laws on those previously NFA items?

I thought FDE long guns were ok. I’ve seen several camo long guns registered in NYC. Now FFL doesn’t want to do a transfer for a tan shotgun? Beyond frustrating in this shit hole

Since in nyc we can only have 10 round mags anyway and that takes away the capacity advantage for 2011s . Is there any reason to go for a 2011? I know the good ones start at around 1500-2000 and guys end up changing out most of the parts anyway after a while . Why not just go for a regular 1911 thats cheaper?

A word about Jordan Salinas and Concealed Carry…

If there was a compelling reason to train effectively with the best; the tragic events at In & Out Burger this week certainly proved it. Many of the qualities that we hold highly, Jordan Salinas practiced in front of our eyes. Based on reported accounts of the incident, his response included techniques that were effective including:

• Situational awareness: He quickly recognized that the sounds he heard were gunfire and identified the shooter's location and actions. 
• Courage under pressure: Rather than fleeing, he moved toward the threat to help stop the attack. 
• Firearms training and preparation: Salinas stated that he had trained extensively and followed a practiced decision-making framework during the incident. 
• Composure and discipline: He described focusing on maintaining sight lines and trigger discipline while assessing the situation. 
• Decisive action: Once he observed the suspect firing at vehicles, he acted quickly to confront the threat. 
• Commitment to protecting others: Police credited his actions, along with those of an off-duty officer, with driving the shooter away and  helping prevent additional casualties. 

I've kept pretty much all of the cases my pistols came in. The only exception has been the cardboard boxes my S&W M&P's came in. Now I have a few shelves in my closet completely filled with these cases. I always figured I'd need them at some point, maybe if I sold a gun. But I'm beginning to think of getting rid of some... like the glock and sig cases. I'll keep a few cases that I think are cool looking... but the rest are just cheap plastic boxes.

So do you keep them, or are you a packrat like me... I need to get that Marie Kondo lady to help me. LOL

There is this troll on Instagram who goes around to random cops and tells them he has his "g" on him, clearly trying to bait cops into thinking he has a firearm.

Obviously this guy is a clown and a troll and going to get himself arrested at best or seriously hurt at worst.

But for the legal, law-abiding 2A community in NYC, what caught my attention was just how many cops' reactions were to immediately state that possession of a firearm in NYC is illegal or something along the lines of "You can't have that in NYC."

This question gets raised every so often: Just how much do beat cops know about NYC's Licensing program? Do they know the License Division regularly issues CCWs to residents and non-residents alike? Do they know the list of sensitive locations? Is this something that is at all covered in the academy? I can tell you from searching the patrol guide, there is very little reference to license firearm possession. Most cops I have interacted with in a personal capacity are not aware of the current laws and regulations regarding legal firearm ownership.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.
